Scott Johnson and Todd Hayes, two friends who had known each other since childhood and had played baseball together in high school and college, established Johnson & Hayes Physical Therapists in January 2003 with the launch of their Huntsville, AL office. Both Scott and Todd had a strong enthusiasm for physical therapy, which was ignited by their own sports-related injuries. Both of them have Master's degrees in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
At Johnson & Hayes Physical Therapists, we offer personalized physical therapy services tailored to your individual needs. Our clinics in Huntsville, Madison, and Hampton Cove, Alabama specialize in manual techniques, patient education, rehabilitation exercises, and state-of-the-art modalities. The Achilles tendon is the large tendon that connects the calf muscles to the heel. This tendon is remarkably strong, but can become very painful when running or jumping. This pain can be very intense and burning, making it difficult to continue your workout when it is hurting.
Chronic pain is not just a regular ache that persists for a long time. It can affect how the body's tissues, brain, and spinal cord interact with the outside world. To reduce the effects of this type of pain, a personalized exercise program and manual therapy are needed.
Hip pain is commonly experienced in the front of the hip and groin region, but it can also be felt in the back of the hip. Bursitis and injuries to the labrum can lead to clicking and popping noises, and are often linked to impingement of the joint. Manual therapy is effective in reducing pain and increasing range of motion, regardless of the diagnosis. It is usually recommended to avoid hip flexion or squatting positions.

My name is Jean Miller and today marks the end of my third rehabilitation program with Johnson & Hayes for my knee surgery. I am Penny Billings and I have been going to Johnson & Hayes for therapy for a long time. I keep returning because I think they offer the best treatment for me. The therapists can adjust the exercises to my requirements and give me ideas on how to practice them at home. Without a doubt, I would recommend Johnson & Hayes to anyone who needs a physical therapist. After having a bilateral knee replacement with some major complications, I was discharged from the hospital and could not walk or stand without assistance. Sitting was also a challenge and I couldn't keep my head up. My physical therapist was compassionate, knowledgeable, and strict, and in only four weeks I was able to be independent again. After eight weeks, I was nearly back to my original condition. Since then, I have had to go back for treatment for other physical issues and I always return to Johnson & Hayes because I know they will get me back to normal quickly.
My name is Shawn Faust and I am a professional basketball player. I was recommended to Todd Hayes and Scott Johnson, physical therapists, by my brother who is an athletic trainer with the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2007 I sustained an ACL injury while playing with the Washington Generals and touring with the Harlem Globetrotters. I needed to make a speedy recovery and I am confident in saying that Hayes and Johnson are two of the best physical therapists in the business. They were aggressive when necessary but also made sure that the rehabilitation process was completed in a timely manner. I enjoyed going to rehab with them and learned a lot about my injury and how to prevent further damage. Their staff was also excellent and all the physical therapists were willing to help with anything I needed. I was able to get back to playing at around 75% within five months and with the rehab program they provided while I was on tour with the Globetrotters, I eventually got back to 100%. Both Todd and Scott are very passionate about what they do and their staff is friendly, respectful and caring. I would highly recommend Hayes and Johnson to any athlete, regardless of their level, with any type of injury.
I am incredibly thankful to my therapist at Johnson & Hayes. She was incredibly skilled in using different therapeutic techniques to reduce pain, distress, and problems that require physical therapy. If I ever have to make a decision about surgery again, I will go to Johnson & Hayes and ask about other options. I am sure that many knee surgeries can be prevented with the right therapy when the pain begins. I am so grateful to my therapist and the entire team at Johnson & Hayes - they are truly a blessing.

Fantastic experience: I love, love, love this place and especially Mary!! I went in with a double-fractured dominant arm and a tear in my rotator cuff and back, and a sprained shoulder joint. I had lost all range of motion of my arm from being in a sling for 6 weeks and couldn’t move my arm at all. Mary did all sorts of exercises with me to stretch out the stiffness and rebuild strength as well as lots of manual work to soften my scar tissue. Within 3-4 weeks, I have 70-80% of my range back and my arm is getting stronger every day. I can brush my teeth with my right hand, wash my hair, tie my hair up and do so many other necessary things that I wasn’t able to before— all thanks to Mary! I also love going into the clinic— it’s so warm and welcoming, and just good vibes all around. :)

Fantastic experience: The facility is clean w/ up to date equipment. Good vibe, energy throughout with a couple of TVs & upbeat music. I like that Kathryn & I worked together each session vs having a different therapist; she could track my progress & customize her approach. Fantastic experience: Joshua “Josh” Cash is very experienced and has gotten results others couldn’t right from the start including being able to adapt exercises to keep from causing numbness and tingling in both legs because they were pulling across my sciatic nerve. None of the therapists I saw at a local competitor, TOC, over a 2 year period could adapt the exercises Josh did and wasted PT visits and couldn’t make progress with me. Fantastic experience: Professional care in a clean, aesthetically-pleasing environment. The physical therapists at J&H are some of the best - knowledgeable, professional, and kind.
Fantastic experience: I went to J&H with Achilles tendonopathy and a lot of pain. Jack Bice quickly assessed where the critical points in my calf and ankle were, and he developed a set of stretching exercises that have reduced the pain and improved function. J&H has used a combination of massage, electrotherapy, and ultrasound to relax the muscles and tendon to promote healing. I have seen a remarkable improvement after just 2 weeks of therapy.

Fantastic experience: I was being treated for vertigo. My physician referred me to your facility. I was greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Kendall saw me at my appointed time. She thoroughly reviewed my situation and treated the condition. She provided me with a sheet of instructions for the next 24 hours. The next day I returned for a follow up appointment. Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Johnson & Hayes Physical Therapists, due to the exceptional care I have received from Alyssa, one of their outstanding therapists. Alyssa is very professional and is very understanding with patients. She is constantly analyzing and is skillful at zeroing in on problems and finding the best therapy to relieve them. Fantastic experience: J&H and especially Jack Bice (the best therapist ever) gave me many years of quality life I would not have had otherwise I started coming in a wheelchair pushed be a nurse I hired and finished walking/running and able to play my favorite sport, golf. We think about our time at J&H often and are very thankful for our time there and the therapy that was provided. Highly recommend J&H and especially Jack Bice.

Fantastic experience: J&H is THE BEST place to go for PT! With my hip pain, I wasn’t interested in pain meds, I wanted to actually fix the problem. The NP at my primary suggested J&H and I’m soooo glad she did. I luckily got linked up with Bailey & I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HER!!! She does not hold back, she has me doing all kinds of exercises and she does these massages that (in reference to pain) rival giving birth….but just like labor pains, it’s a “good hurt” and afterwards I’m always better. She has given me custom exercises that I can do that help me and she has shown me things I can do/buy at home in order to help on days when ai’m not in the clinic. Look no further than J&H when you need THE BEST PT in town. You won’t regret going there.

Fantastic experience: When I had my left shoulder surgery 5 years ago several people I worked with had Jack Bice as their physical therapist and they all insisted I use Jack. I followed their advice and used Jack and was not disappointed. So when I needed surgery on my right shoulder, I knew who I wanted as my therapist, and again Jack is doing a great job. Larry West

Fantastic experience: I had a shoulder replacement performed in Birmingham and needed a physical therapist here in Huntsville for the post operative therapy. A friend of mine recommended Johnson and Hayes, and I’ve been very pleased to say the least. When I called prior to the surgery to set up the therapy, the young lady that I spoke with had to adjust the therapist’s schedule in order to honor my request for three visits per week. She called me back by the end of the day with my schedule. She also worked me in for an earlier date because my surgery date got moved up. The kind, polite and patient attitude that I experienced really gave me the impression that this place was not about the quantity of people that they could treat on a daily basis but the quality of care and concern that they could provide. The therapist that I was assigned to, Jack Bice, has been outstanding! I’ve been treated by numerous physical therapists over the years, and this guy is great. I highly recommend Johnson and Hayes in Huntsville as well as PT Jack Bice.

Fantastic experience: Ethan takes great care with his patients. Explaining with patience they’re issues and options for care. He is gentle, but firm with his therapy. He constantly updates and reevaluates as needed. I feel I’m getting the best care possible.

Fantastic experience: Sharon has done a great job assessing my dad's balance and core issues (he's almost 93) and working with him to improve in those areas both when he is at PT and exercises he can do at home as well. She is very patient, upbeat and willing to accept feedback from me on my dad's issues and what he is experiencing at home. I would highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: Osteoarthritis for 25 years. Physical Therapists 25 years. Back surgery 8 years ago. Back surgery upcoming next week, and scheduled for April this year. Been going to J and H PT for a few months, including Brooke and Josh. Both intelligent and caring. Would not consider going anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: I am currently receiving Physical Therapy for my back! Moving my office home due to COVID-19 just allowed me to get really lazy about good exercising! Now Jacque is working with me to re-strengthen all those muscles. This is my fourth or fifth time as a patient at Johnson and Hayes Physical Therapists! I am pleased with each person on staff from the front desk to each person I encounter in my experiences there! No place for me but Johnson and Hayes Physical Therapists. Fantastic experience: It's never easy to realize that life has tossed you a curve ball, and you suddenly have limitations. Many people experience it. If or when it happens, and you need physical therapy, I cannot speak highly enough of the people at Johnson & Hayes, specifically the facility and crew at the Balmoral location. My own therapy would be considered minor by some, but these people take every single patient and make them feel like they are the most important person on the floor while there. I've observed how they are with others, and their care, attention, and empathy towards each individual is amazing. From people dealing with unbelievably harsh situations to those on the lighter end of the spectrum, the care is the same. Dedicated, professional and caring. They listen to you, and their feedback is honest, proactive and positive. Always positive. That said, if you need outpatient physical therapy, Johnson & Hayes is the first place to look. Opinion? Sure. But these fine people have sold me. If I ever need it again, this is where I'm going.

Fantastic experience: I just completed physical therapy after having surgery for a broken ankle. Ethan Hodges helped me gain my strength and mobility back to be able to complete every day activities.
