Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital: Reviews
Negative experience: DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT, send your loved ones here. They were practically allowing my mother to die in this place. She was not eating or drinking and they were doing nothing about it. I talked to the doctor here and he didn't even want me to send her to the hospital. I MADE the decision to send her back to the hospital. She was bleeding and he said it was hemrroids without even going in to look at her. As a matter of fact, he never came into the room to check on her. This place is all about making money. The health of the patients is not of high priority. I asked to speak with her case worker and she never came to talk to me. The only nurse at this place who made a difference in my mother's life was Ms. Livings. She was helpful from the start. May God bless her for her love and dedication for people!

Negative experience: Do not bring your loved ones to this facility! They will kick them out early even if the discharge plan is unsafe. it's all so they can save the days and basically get paid double once they discharge your family and refill the bed. I think that is Medicare Fraud but they have been doing it for years. CEO is the one who makes final decisions on discharge date and not the MD. Dr Belgodere and Dr Spiller try hard to advocate for the patient but corporate and CEO makes final decision. So why your family is being discharge too soon all the administrators and corporate or celebrating and getting bonuses.

Negative experience: I gave one star only because the therapy department is amazing and I was able to meet my goals and walk when I left the hospital. Also the nursing staff Mrs Eva, Mrs Deborah and Callie and Shelia were so kind and caring. RJ, Camille, Megan and Kacie and therapy were great. My daughter worked for this company for almost two years and loved her job. She is the one who convinced me to go there for therapy. No one knew she was my daughter at first. The patients all spoke so highly of her and said how kind she was. They said she goes over and beyond. All of the administration even the CEO talked highly of her as well. once there realized she was my daughter they began to tell me how good she was at her job and how they were so lucky to have her. She was the only person in her department at the time, for almost a year she worked alone. She had all the patient's and no help. She sacrificed time away from her family and children working 12 hour days and even going in on the weekend. She told me she received a new administrator at the beginning of they year and that's when I began to see she no longer loved her job as much. I asked her why and she said she always felt like she was always in trouble. She had no write ups or no disciplinary actions, in fact she has some google and Facebook reviews written about how great at her job she is. She has received cards and letter from patient's mentioning the good work she does. She decided to start looking for a new job because she said she could feel her new administrator was looking for a reason to fire her, even thought they could not find anything wrong with the work she did. When she found a better job she told me she was scared to put in a two week's notice because in the past this company never lets employees complete their two week's notice. I told her not to give one since she was so stressed and anxious about going to work since the administrative change. She said she likes to remain professional so she put in her notice. She was by herself again the week she put in her notice. Her coworker was out for the week. The company allowed her to work by herself with no help that entire week, after all that work she did that week, at the end of the week they told her, that her services were no longer needed. She said the CEO was smiling at her while he said it, as if to rub it in..... NO LOYALTY! She worked there by herself in her department for almost a year. She took no lunch breaks even though they still took it out her check automatically, which is illegal. I would give this place zero stars but the doctors are amazing as well as the therapy department. Actually all the staff was kind from housekeeping to dietary. I just don't like when companies want their employees to be loyal to them, but do not return the same loyalty to their employees. She said this has happened with other staff members as well. I was shocked that the same people who smiled in my face and told me how awesome of a job my daughter does and how lucky they were to have her would treat her like that. Corporate should seriously investigate this place and talk to all employees that recently quit or were fired, as well as current employees. This place has no consistent staff. That should be a huge RED flag for corporate. How can a hospital be hiring in every single department and have such a fast turnover rate.

Negative experience: My dad discharged from your hospital on 6/28/24. He said "RJ is my favorite therapist". He had nothing but kind things to say about your facility. Him and my mother both said "Megan is so good at her job, you can tell she loves what she does" also "Camille and Lainee pushed him but in a good way, they made him try hard and they encouraged him every step of the way". Krista was a great nurse, my mom said she gave Krista a hard time and she handed it was ease and confidence. My dad's discharge was not the safest, but the staff at your hospital did an excellent job at educating us and allowing us to make our own decision. My mom and dad both could not say anything negative about Ebony! They praised her and I quote my mother "May God Bless Ebony". She helped not only my dad but also my mom. I came in to town after my mom had a procedure. Ebony introduced herself and answered all my questions. The staff hosted a conference so that we had all the information we needed since we were deciding to take my father home against their recommendations. RJ helped us do a car transfer, initially we thought my father would not be able to do it but he did. When he left the hospital it only took me to put him in the car. Serena the director of nursing was by his side and Ebony his case worker. They encouraged my father and he was so happy he did it with so little assistance. My dad was so depressed since he lost his leg, but he left the facility filled with so much hope and happiness. He put your certificate up at home and looks at it daily. My mom wanted to make sure I thank Ebony. She said she treated Ebony like her daughter and she was tough on her meaning she questioned her a lot and spoke freely to her, and she said Ebony had an answer for all her questions. Quote from my mom "not only did she have an answer to all my questions, but she had the right answers". She did not just answer questions just to be talking, or give false information. She knew what she was talking about. She is very knowledgeable and cares about her patient's. She called my mom after her procedure to check on her and make sure she was okay. My dad told her before he left "you must have been doing this job for a long time, cause you are so good at your it". I never forget my mother asking Ebony if she could giver her hug her before she left and just thanking her for everything. My mom had tears in her eyes when she hugged her and I wished I had took a picture. She allowed us to call her with any questions we had even after his discharge and she helped us and guided us. I just want to also tell her THANK YOU for her kindness! Dr Belgodere was also very professional and helpful. The direct of nursing Serena was also very helpful and took all our concerns serious. Lacretia, Shelia and Kallie were amazing CNA's they took great care of my dad. Thank you to your entire staff for helping my dad gain his confidence and happiness back. You will never be forgotten! I know his discharge is not what you recommended but thank you for educating us and allowing us to respect my dads decision to go home. If you want your loved one to be well taken care of and in the hands of staff members who actually care .... then this place is "the real deal" quote from my dad. Therapy department is A1! Thanks again! I recommend this place to anyone, when you go ask for Ebony as our case worker you will not be disappointed. Oh WOW I found out what this company did to the wonderful case worker my dad had so I had to changed my review to 2 stars! so disappointed!

Fantastic experience: Ebony is such a wonderful caring person. She was my dad's case worker two different times. She goes above and beyond what most do to make sure your family is getting the proper care. All of the staff that I had contact with were very nice, helpful and caring. The therapists there were very good at motivating my dad, even when he wasn't wanting to cooperate. Very nice and clean facility as well. Only word of warning, make sure you speak with the dietician if your family member has any food allergies.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. My father had a TIA and was sent here upon discharge from the hospital. My father has dementia and lives in a wonderful assisted living facility. This rehab hospital basically held him hostage for several weeks. It took days to hear from a case worker and over a week to hear from the physician. On more than one occasion he was dirty and in dirty clothes (same clothes for 3 days!) We tried every avenue to get him released back to his assisted living where he has 24 hr nursing care and can get home health therapy. They came up with every excuse under the book to keep him there as long as possible. Just a complete nightmare experience. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Fantastic experience: Staff is incredible. Best rehabilitation clinic in this area. My mother was a patient for 2 weeks after a hospital stay. She has made leaps and bounds improvements in her ability to perform daily tasks. Every single staff member at Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation was always kind, courteous and treated her like she was the only patient in the hospital. It is very clear that they really love their jobs, and it shows. Keep up the great work.

Fantastic experience: My son has been in LPRH not even a week and has fallen twice... I am livid, because no one can give me concrete answers to his fall. I am not one to give up!! Someone better come straight or else!!!!! I can't go home for a day break without my son falling. Believe me when I say, someone must be with your loved one 24/7 in these type facilities!! I hate to leave him for a second... This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!!! My son had a stroke and all he needs to do is fall and hit his head!!!
Fantastic experience: We highly recommend Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital for all your rehab needs. The doctors, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapist and staff made the stay not only very pleasant but rewarding. The kindness, dedication and expertise is what gave my husband his quality of life back. We cannot be more grateful and thankful for this great team!

Positive experience: My mother was very ill and had two weeks in this facility. The two weeks then she was able to walk a little bit further than she normally would, they helped her with an occupational therapist because she has a trach. My only fallback is that the two weeks is not long enough for some patients. The staff is very helpful and polite.

Positive experience: The staff of the therapists could not have been more kind and helpful. The aids and ones who help to turn patient's are amazing. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the nurses who give out medication are lax about the time patients are to receive them. At 1 point it was 2 hours and 10 minutes to get my pain meds.

Negative experience: Very convenient in many areas. However, my loved one was there for physical therapy and the program is very laxed. Patients left to do their own thing while therapist visits with other staff. Either they are not well trained therapist or just don’t have the right outlook with compassion for the longevity of healing and restoration for the patients.

Fantastic experience: I was there for 3 weeks for physical therapy from having COVID. The Nurses, CNAS, Physical Rehab team were excellent. I could hardly get in a wheelchair when I first got there.I left being able to walk with a walker. I'd definitely recommend someone

Positive experience: I was a patient there last December. I had very good care, sometimes excellent. The physical and occupational therapy is great. I was never forced to do anything, only encouraged. Outside of therapy sessions, you're free to do what you want. I actually enjoyed my stay there. If you go be sure to check out the area behind the building. Very calm and restful. The food was generally good; breakfast was the best. The room was clean. Dr. Belgodere or his sub visited me every day and kept me informed. I knew him before through other hospital stays, and I have switched to him as my PCP. The nurses are generally professional. Ashley and Cody were the best. The CNAs could use some training. One of them came to my room only once during her shift, and that was only after I called for her. The CEO was very nice. I met him on one of my visits outside. The case manager needs to communicate more with the patients. Overall, the staff are upbeat and friendly. The nurses' station can get very loud and rowdy, which is ok during the day but not at night. Special thanks to therapists Devon, Katie, Karen, and Stephan. They kept me going and gently pushed me to do my best! Robert Larroque

Negative experience: My mother went here after a neck surgery and was not taken care of well at all. They let her go without her medicine when she was in severe pain. Enough pain to make her pass out from it. Supposedly a few nurses tried waking her up, but she woke to her speech therapist coming into the room. When she was there, she was forced to room with a woman that screamed and yelled all night long. The nurses were very attentive to THAT woman's needs, but not to my mothers when my mother was in much more pain than the other seemed to be in. My mom only stayed there for about three nights before we took her home. She informed me that her therapy was the best part of the experience, but she only could go once. They also would not let her take her OWN medicine, saying the doctor said she wasn't to have any, which we know was a lie. All in all, I would not have her sent here, to this damn near abusive place.
If you or your loved one was a patient in our facility, we are sorry that the stay did not meet your expectations. We value your comments and consider it an opportunity to work together to meet the needs of our patients. We strive daily to provide our patients with the highest quality of care in order to help our patients regain the best possible level of health and independence. We would like the opportunity to review your concerns further. We encourage you to speak directly to the CEO of Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital (LPRH) at 337-314-1125. Your satisfaction and opportunity for input is very important to us. Sincerely, Bruce Bartels LPRH CEO
Positive experience: The rehab personnel are good and the program works the patients hard. The nursing personnel are both friendly and professional. The administrative personnel, however are another matter entirely There is no communication between the case managers or doctors and the family. Information is passed through the lowest level therapy employee who can neither answer questions nor implement requests. I passed the information to this employee on Monday that we wanted to request an extension on Mom's stay because she is not ready to go home yet. We heard nothing from them. Now it is 4pm on Thursday and we hear, from the same assistant therapist, that she will be released on Monday and should go to another facility. No suggestions, no list of contacts, nothing So now we have FRIDAY to try to find a place for her on Monday! Are the case managers here for support Of course not. Closed up at 4 pm . Maybe we'll get some help tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath.
Fantastic experience: My grandfather has stayed in this facility twice. I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff here. All go above and beyond to help and get your loved one back on their feet. The therapy staff is excellent. They listen and they care about getting patients as independent as possible. Nursing staff is very attentive and personable and the food is nothing like typical hospital food.
Negative experience: Do not bring your love ones here. My dad was admitted into this rehab after coming from Lafayette General with improvements. Just observing the place, they don't take bed alarms seriously. I was also informed that they are understaffed. There were no sense of urgency. Even when you inform the nurses to watch your love ones, they will not take the effort to. My dad only stayed there for 4.5 hours and he had already fell on his forehead. He had a gash on his left upper eye brow and bled everywhere. The nurse from the rehab had called me and informed me that my dad was being rushed back to Lafayette General where his condition had worsen from the fall. My question for the nurse on the phone was how long did the bed alarm go off. Her response was a couple of minutes. My response was it shouldn't have been a couple of minutes, it should've been those few seconds that a nurse should be attentive when a bed alarm goes off. No one from the rehab even called to follow up after the fall. After reading a few reviews on here, falls are pretty common. The coordinator that works alongside with this rehab was insisting on sending him back and I had strongly disapprove of that decision to send him back to that particular rehab. He had a chance to get better, but sadly he passed. This place deserve no stars. I will NEVER bring my loves one here again.
Fantastic experience: This place was the best!
Fantastic experience: Great people! I felt comfortable leaving my husband in their hands. They took care of him, didn't expect me to do it, like they did at Lourdes Hospital the week earlier. The people were kind and caring. Every day they helped him with his cleanliness needs. Not one person passed me in the hallway without a smile and/or a hello. When my husband needed something, they were there. He was kept busy during the week, so he wasn't bored. When he went back to his room, he was usually ready to go back! The facility was very comfortable and personable. On the negative side, it took the staff doctor a day and a half to show up and write dismissal orders/prescriptions. We had already left by then because we wanted to go home. Also, the food wasn't very good, although the red beans and rice was awesome! The refrigerator is stocked with milk, juice, and other nutritional drinks, and easy to get to. I was really leery about my husband coming here because of the negative posts that I read, but this place was so much better than Lourdes, where he was for almost two weeks earlier after his several level fusion surgery.
Fantastic experience: I've had two stays at this rehab hospital and although they both were short, I was very pleased with the care I received. Everyone was extremely pleasant, the rooms were comfortable and clean, the food was delicious, and I the doctors and PT's were great. They are strict on your rehab in that they make you do the required 3 hours a day (barring injuries), but that's what you stay for. I'm sorry other's had different experiences, and hope they found a resolution to them.
Fantastic experience: My husband had a great experience here. He was there for 10 days. The PT & nursing staff accomplished amazing results and we're so motivated to help return him to the same level of activity. A huge thank you to Drew, Petie, & Hanna.
Negative experience: This place does not care 4 their patients they abuse and neglect them instead
Negative experience: My dad is in this facility. He has fallen down twice. Nobody in family was notified.
