Negative experience: I have struggled with back pain for many years, with diagnoses including scoliosis and arthritis. For nearly nine years, Dr. Winnie and his office have been my trusted providers. They have always been reliable—until my recent experience. Over the weekend, I injured my lower back. After consulting with my OB, I was advised to contact my spine specialist. I attempted to reach the on-call physician, but after 15 hours without a response, I called Dr. Winnie’s office Monday morning. I was instructed to go to the ER. Following my ER visit, I was advised to follow up with Dr. Winnie. I left a message for his medical assistant, Gabriella, requesting an appointment. When she returned my call, she informed me that Dr. Winnie could not do anything for me because I was pregnant. I expressed my frustration, as I have been a long-time patient and he is well aware of my medical history. I was not even offered an appointment to discuss my condition or the severity of my pain, offered PT or imaging. Gabriella then told me, “Next time, go to your OB,” and abruptly hung up. As a former healthcare professional myself, I find this treatment completely unacceptable. The lack of communication, disregard for my medical history, and outright dismissal of my concerns were appalling. Because of this experience, I will no longer be a patient of Dr. Winnie’s or Compass Rehab. Patients should not be disregarded or passed around as if they do not matter. I have an extremely high pain tolerance and rarely seek emergency care, yet when I did, I was met with indifference. It is deeply that this type of treatment of patients is tolerated.

Negative experience: I had an ineffective experience with epidural steroid injections (ESI) for cervical spine pain under the care of Dr. Topham. Initially, Dr. Topham recommended the injections to relieve nerve pain, so I underwent two rounds of ESI. Unfortunately, both injections were ineffective; within two weeks of the second injection, my pain remained the same. At the follow-up, Dr. Topham suggested trying Lyrica due to the lack of success with the injections. However, when I reviewed the notes from that visit, I saw they inaccurately stated that the injections were "highly effective," which is a blatant lie. Out of desperation for pain relief, I decided to try the Lyrica. When I later called for a prescription refill, my request, I left a message with the receptionist, stating very clearly the dose, prescribing doctor, pharmacy, and gave them a call back number. The prescription was never filled. This experience gives the impression of a lack of care for patients. Dr. Topham handled the consultations, and Dr. Winnie performed the injections, but I do not recommend them, I advise looking elsewhere for care.

Negative experience: Horrible place they constantly fail to submit the insurance paperwork on time then blame the insurance because they should just do it for them. Rude receptionist and employees. Get a different referral this place is not worth it.

Negative experience: I do not even think that I should give them one star. Dr. Winnie is great. The staff there is horrible. I have had TWO precudures cancelled the evening before, "due to insurance"! The first time I thought maybe it was insurance, but the second time...I don't think it was the insurance company after all. I will now have to go somewhere else so that I know the procedue will take place. I now have to find a new Pain Managment Clinic and start all over again.

Positive experience: Dr. Winnie is fantastic, compassionate and he listens to you. His staff is wonderful as well. He takes time to answer any questions you may have. All though, the reception desk leaves a lot to be desired. The work station is a hot mess. Tampons, drink straws and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff is piled up by the monitor. It doesn't look very professional with all the unnecessary clutter.

Negative experience: This place is lucky to get a one star. I would not recommend this place to anyone! My husband comes here for work injury and they tell him all his pain is in his head after only seeing the doctor twice..

Positive experience: I have been to Compass Rehab several times. I appreciate the staff and Doctors. there. The only problem is sometimes getting in, due to the fact they are very busy. But, once there, you are well treated and the treatments have helped a great deal. It did take me a while to figure out their online sign in, though. Hopefully, I have it now.

Fantastic experience: The Therapist are knowledgeable, professional and are very good in establishing the correct treatment plan for your physical therapy needs. The entire staff are very nice and friendly and they have several different therapeutic options such as a pool, acupuncture, etc. I recommend this facility for your physical therapy needs.

Fantastic experience: I love this place! If you live in mid-michigan you should go to this clinic if you need Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, Massage, Pain Psychology or need a great doctor to help you manage your back or neck pain. I have many friends who have gone to this clinic and I would recommend it to anyone!!!

Fantastic experience: A truly caring staff that goes out of their way to make sure patients are totally taken care of. The doctors, nurses, techs, therapists, and the ladies that work in the check-in area area area all amazing. I live closer to other similar facilities, but will continue to drive the extra miles to go to the Spine Center/Compass Rehab.

Fantastic experience: My only complaint is I didn't want my massage to end. Definitely recommend any person looking for a massage, especially pre-natal. I had Laura and she was calm, trustworthy and relaxing. As soon as I got up my hip pain was gone, which had been my biggest problem being pregnant.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. They have the best staff. They are friendly and courteous. The doctor's are wonderful.I love getting a massage from there every now and then. PT is amazing and so helpful. An overall excellent environment. I would recommend the Spine Center to anyone in pain that needs help managing it.

Negative experience: Went in for the first time today as a referral from my doctor for pain. Wanted to get some manipulation done to address pain. They had me meet the incorrect doctor. That doctor told me I should see a different doctor and maybe that would be today. I was then told that insurance couldn’t bill twice in the same day… so I was charged for seeing the wrong doctor and it took two hours for them to let me know this. So I sat for two hours in the office and left with the same amount of pain and extremely frustrated. Because of their error, I have further pain and stress in addition to paying for an unnecessary visit. Absolutely unacceptable. Again, this was my first time there.

Fantastic experience: I've been recovering from surgery and doing pool and land therapy with Compass. They are all friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. I get pushed but not too hard. Keeping up with my exercises at home I'm able to go up and down stairs as well as walking on a beach.

Negative experience: I first went here 15 months ago for sever cervical arthritis and was very pleased, and impressed, with the care and the physicians. After receiving two neck injections the pain was gone and I was told if I had any recurring problems just call and they would get me right in. Well last Saturday the pain came back and reached by Tuesday, on a scale of 1 to 10, a 10.5. I called but the person I needed to speak to was "in clinic" and would call me right back. After 5 hours I called back and was then told it would be at least 24 and maybe 48 hours before she (Julie) would be able to call back because of "clinic" Well it is now approaching 72 hrs and no call back. Loved the docs and the care but somehow their culture is no longer patient centered.

Negative experience: I started going here when referred to Dr. Lemmen. In my opinion, the practice has went downhill since she left and I'm not sure if there was a changeover in staff or what happened but the issues started shortly after her departure. Last year my husband suffered an injury and was also referred to Compass and started seeing Dr. Beall too. Getting the FMLA papers completed by them came close to a nightmare... there was a complete lack of communication on their end and it held things up for almost a month. It seems lately, that if you have an appt (maybe this just happens with Dr. Beall), they will call you the day of to try and get you in earlier. I get this happens, but it becomes annoying when they call before each appt. Lastly, and the biggest turn off I've had with them this year, was just last week when my husband had an appt. He arrived at his appt time and they told him the Dr. had left for the day and they had tried calling to notify him (his fault for not checking his vm - he assumed it was the usual call to come in earlier if you can). BUT when he went back a few days later for his rescheduled appt, they told him he was a "no show" for the previous appt and that the Dr. had been waiting for him?!?! Apparently they said the desk staff was wrong but no one seems to really know what's going on there. So, we live about 30 minutes away and my husband made the trip there and back twice in a week for absolutely no reason. Then, they billed us WRONG (again) for 3 times our co-pay. Since July 2022, we have had a couple billing issues with them. When I called to correct it this last time, Nadia, in billing, was rude and hung up on me (I can admit I was getting heated but never cursed, yelled or anything out of line; she could NOT handle how direct I was being and could use some customer service lessons). I literally had to call back like a stalker to get her to answer and send me to a supervisor to correct it - which they finally did. The doctors are great but the support staff can be rude, seems to not want do their jobs or not even know how to do their jobs at times, and can genuinely make you feel like they don't care and you're annoying. They only get 2 stars since we do like Dr. Beall, but we are looking for a new practice at this time.

Negative experience: I did not have a good experience. The room i was put in, smelled like sweaty feet. The nurse told me whe was stuffy from january allergies and was not wearing a mask. The dr basically did nothing for me. He also addressed only one issue, not both. He told me to continue with p.t and return in 6 weeks. I will not. I will call my primary and get a referral to someone else.

We're sorry you feel there were parking lot issues as we designed the lot with our patients in mind - including our convenient drop off experience for our patients with mobility issues. We do not place political signs on our office property. There are properties on either side of our building and across the street which all display political signs. We have no input with those property owners, but we know that our patients understand that signs are a part of living in a community with freedom of expression and many different viewpoints. Positive experience: The injections didn't help me personally. I've since had surgery on my cervical spine. I'm back for PT. The front desk ladies are very friendly. The PT is great. The Compass Health group is very tight with Lansing Neurosurgery which has upsides and potential down sides for patients. Dawn the front desk for PT is getting warmer every day. All I had to do was ask.

Fantastic experience: I loved my experience at Compass! I went in for PT for my shoulder/neck and the care I received beyond exceeded my expectations. It was my first PT experience and so I had a lot of questions. Kierstin was super patient and explained everything thoroughly. Fantastic experience: I’ve been here roughly every 6 months for a massive injury to low back. I’ve always found Veronica a pleasure to work with, efficient, respectful and polite. Dr Wheeler has kept me away from all pain meds with his skills and training. I’ve had several issues with BCBS several times however this in my opinion has never been the fault of Veronica or Compass Health. With these Ablations and injections I’m usually 80-90% pain free for months! Thank you to Compass and team Wheeler for your care, recommendations, and relief. ~ Paul S

Negative experience: My surgeon sent me to Compass for a little relief while I wait for my surgery. They set me up with 2 different appointments to get started. The afternoon before my first scheduled procedure I received a call that they had to cancel, as per my insurance hadn't authorized it. I called the insurance and was informed they had requested documentation a week prior and once again the day before. I called Compass and spoke to Veronica. Veronica stated she didn't understand why it was sent to her. So, she knew the info the insurance requested bit had a case of "it's not my job" and didn't do anything. Fast forward, I received a call from Compass a week after stating the referral girl in their office messed up and coded the procedure wrong and I could come right in, it was approved and we didn't even need prior authorization from insurance. I am mad about this but I got over it and went in for my first procedure. A week later I woke up and couldn't lift my arms. I called Compass and she told me they needed to get me in for an emergency MRI because we needed to make sure it wasn't worse and the medication didn't do something funky. I had a long conversation with the girl aabout where I preferred to go and so on. 4 days later I hadn't heard from anyone about the MRI so I called my preferred place and was told they hadn't gotten a referral. I called Compass. I was told that once again the referral girl sent it to the wrong place.. I'm done. How many times can they mess up on the same patient?

Positive experience: Getting treatment for my back. I was here 3 years ago for Epidural Lumbar Injections which work well for awhile. Now I am back for 2-3 more injections. The staff and Dr are very friendly and professional. I feel like they make me as comfortable as possible while being there and truly care about me and improving my health and quality of life

Negative experience: Be prepared if you self-pay to continuously get billed, have the price increase with every bill, call and leave messages and no one call you back. And when you do finally get a hold of someone, she tells you she checks the main line and hasn't ever got a voicemail. Ridiculous. I had to call 3 times to make sure our payment was posted. Will not be coming back due to all the billing issues. We will find another company who has it together for those that self-pay and if you do have a billing issue, a company that actually calls you back!

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience at Compass. The staff there are outstanding and very well managed. I tore my rotator cuff in February and due to COVID-19, I was not able to have surgery until May. Compass worked with me to make sure that I received the best care during a very challenging time. Now, 4 months post surgery, I am about 99% mobile with my shoulder and that is all because of this group. Michael, Jordan and Kristie were so awesome to work with and the whole staff was pleasant, professional and supportive. I highly recommend this group!

Fantastic experience: If you need physical therapy this is the place to go. The doctors there that do spinal injections and other types of procedures are great. Everyone from the receptionist to the nurses to the physical therapist to the doctors are all wonderful helpful compassionate and professional caregivers

Negative experience: Dr Topham was great. mostly. When he ordered an MRI for me , his assistant kept ordering an xray instead of MRI. It took an extra 10 days to fix this. When I asked why no one called me to schedule my MRI I was told to call them. When I said, I don't know who to call, she said "google it". RUDE! And then DR Topham never called with my MRI results. 2 fractured hips. I've left messages for his assistant, Jade to call me twice, no response. They also owe me money for an over payment, which I never received a call back for that either. So, I am still waiting for surgery and feel I have been subjected to several extra weeks/months of horrible pain because of them.

Negative experience: I was hoping to go here for chiropractic work because my back was injured while delivering my baby 3 weeks ago. I was told appointments are pretty flexible so I made my second appointment a week in advance, but with a newborn i wasn't sure if i could make it. I had to reschedule my appointment today and was told I would be billed for cancellation even if I rescheduled. My insurance covers 60 chiropractic appointments a year and I'll be going somewhere else with that $ now. They shouldn't advertise flexibility if it's not true.

Negative experience: So I have had the terrible experience of dealing with Ashley. I called to simply have my x Ray results (from 9months ago that I was never given results on) sent to my doctor. As I called after my mother (she tried to call and help as I was at work, but they wouldn’t talk to her because of hyppa law) all I said was “I’d like my results sent to my doctors”.. she asked my name and birthdate. And clearly immediately knew who I was from just speaking with my mother. This was her response “you know you could have gone to McLaren to get your results right?” Then as I ask what was the point of me starting with dr Winnie if I’m not going to even follow up with him about my results? Her response is “well it says here he recommended PT did you ever follow up with that?” Then I tried to respond and was cut off by her loudly talking over me saying “just give me the fax number so I can send it” needless to say I had to hang up before I got out of character. It’s unfortunate to have my mother who was trying to help me be treated rudely by a receptionist as well as me feeling like I can’t even get my results without being a burden. I will never go or recommend anyone here strictly because of the stubbornness and rudeness of Ashley. I really hope you guys do better! Like Alexus! She’s great!

Fantastic experience: Seriously the most efficient office I've ever been to. Appointments run on time, if they say the doctor will be in in a few minutes it's normally one or less! I went in for a couple procedures everyone made me comfortable, talked me through it, and again they were very quick to get me in and out without making me feel rushed. The doctors know what they're taking about, and make sure you have all the info to make decisions on your health.

Positive experience: I had an excellent chiropractic adjustment. There were some billing errors, after some effort they took care of it. Medical billing, in general, is stressful. I was happy with the final result.

This sounds like a deductible issue and our staff is very good at understanding your policy and explaining why things were billed the way they were and why your insurance didn't pay what you expected. This also sounds like a deductible issue or at the worst a communication issue as initial consultations prior to being your first adjustment have separate billing codes from the adjustment you requested.
