Fantastic experience: Outstanding! Rick did so well with me when I tore my rotator cuff, that I’m back for my new injury. If you’re looking for a place to go, Athletico with Rick LaFave is the spot I’d highly recommend. Their staff at the door (Arie) and assistants (Ella,Bella,Beth,Audrey&some I forgot) go Out of their way to both make a person feel comfortable and show they care. Travis and Matt are both straightforward and actively engaged with their people and I can see those people getting better every time I’m in for my own problems. Rick takes the time to nicely explain everything and doesn’t sugar coat facts that I may not want to hear. He makes sure to praise me and the other people I’ve heard regularly and that goes a long ways to someone with the terrible injury I have. One of the things I like most is the staff will stay with me and make sure I’m doing the exercises properly and gently tell me when I’m not. The gal at the front desk has gone above and beyond to supply me with documents via email and print for my insurance and lawyers. All employees I’ve seen there are completely engaged and have POSITIVE ATTITUDES, which goes a long ways with people who are currently recovering. One negative I’ve seen and the only negative I’ve seen is that the employees are sometimes so engaged, when people come in, they don’t get acknowledged right away. Overall this place is a 10 out of 10! I wouldn’t and won’t go to another Dr. other than Rick. Dr. LaFave even took the time to explained things to my wife, which she deeply appreciated as many other doctors haven’t before. Best place I’ve been to is an understatement! 10 out of 10 stars!!

Fantastic experience: I am a 77-year-old male patient of Dr. Amanda Slowik at Athletico Physical Therapy, on Lake Lansing Road, East Lansing, MI. I have scoliosis as well as severe forward curvature in my neck and spine caused by bone loss (osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and osteopenia) with multiple compression fractures. The curvature has reduced my height by over eight inches. This has impacted my ability to stand, walk; my balance, range of motion, ability to bend, lift and turn. Daily activity was terribly painful. Testing by the UofM Spinal Surgery team revealed that I am not a candidate for surgery. However, they said physical therapy may give me pain relief and improve my quality of life. On December 6, 2022, I began working with Amanda Slowik at Athletico. She is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has done additional training focusing on work with seniors. Amanda began by asking where my pain was. She explained her goal was to reduce or alleviate my pain by strengthening muscle groups to better support my spine. This, in turn, could help reduce the severity of curvature, allowing me to walk without complete dependency on a cane or walker. She emphasized the importance of proper breathing, so I get enough oxygen to support my circulatory system and give me more stamina. Amanda used pressure point therapy on my back. Using her hands to gently press on areas of my back, she would completely alleviate the pain. It was like a miracle! Amanda keeps me engaged in the process by asking me what I want to work on next. Because additional fractures are a concern, she has shown me better ways to do day-to-day activities safely. She taught me three things I should not do: bending, lifting of over ten pounds, or twisting (no BLTs). She provides detailed instructions so I can continue exercises at home. Every time I complete PT at Athletico, I feel better than when I arrived. Thanks to Amanda’s dedication, I have learned how I can go forward with a daily plan that rewards me with greater independence. My balance, strength and confidence have all improved. I no longer use a cane! But this is an on-going process. I consider the program Amanda has developed a lifeline! I am so grateful for the improvement she has helped me achieve! Fantastic experience: This location was amazing! The staff was so friendly and the place was so clean! Dr.Amanda provided the best treatment and was so patient & caring when it came to my progress. I definitely recommend!

Positive experience: Caring clinicians who are definitely overbooked. I think it's a great option if you need somewhere accessible or are looking to work with a pelvic floor therapist (options in Lansing are so limited), but when my referring physician found out I was here, he referred me elsewhere for more specific and attentive care.

Fantastic experience: I attended PT for a few months postpartum to gain back some strength, I worked with Christina specifically for pelvic floor/core. I would recommend to anyone who was interested in this service! Christina was great. She is very knowledgeable and it was comfortable working with her and asking any questions I had along the way. I felt that she set me up well for continued success even after my PT sessions. It was also a great way for me to take some time for myself and start moving again post baby! A great resource for anyone in the community.

Fantastic experience: Matt is knowledgeable and easy to get along with. He will challenge you while always being careful not to cause injury. I worked with Matt for 5 weeks and feel like a new person.

Fantastic experience: Decided to go to Athletico in Lansing after complications from surgery on my foot . Rick was my therapist and absolutely amazing . He is so knowledgeable and took my pain from an initial 10/10 to no pain on my last day. All of the staff were super nice as well. Fantastic experience: Hello! I’ve been working with Travis kiser for approximately two months for a bad nerve pain and neck pain till my shoulder and hand ! I enjoyed working with Travis , he is perfect and my favorite therapist from across the world !!! Because I’m too far from US ! Travis took good care of my case , and worked on it hard to get it taken care of . Travis was always polite ,understanding even if my English was not working correctly hahah,he is helpful and positive with me and he explained in detail what the reason for pain was and what exercises can help taking care of it. Highly recommended!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Athletico and Travis Kiser. After developing plantar fasciitis I was in immense pain just walking. As an elementary school teacher and rugby player I am always on my feet and just daily activities were difficult. After a few months of rehab I am pain free and feeling stronger than ever. Travis listened to my concerns and helped me to get back on the rugby pitch.

Fantastic experience: I️ went to Athletico for pelvic floor therapy with Dr. Christina P. and really believe I️ got the best service possible. I️’ve been struggling with chronic pain (interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, IBS, hypertonic pelvic floor) for a few years and I️ haven’t seen improvement this fast and informative anywhere else. If you have chronic pain, put your trust in Christina because she knows what she is doing! The rest of the staff is also very welcoming and makes the PT environment fun!

Fantastic experience: By far the best PT office I’ve ever been to! Before coming here, I was always skeptical on how effective physical therapy really is. That all changed for me these past couple months coming here to rehab my ankle/foot with Travis. Before starting my PT here I was looking at a potential surgery that would leave me sidelined for 6-8 months, but I was able to avoid that with just rougly 2.5 months of coming here. Fantastic experience: I’ve been working with Travis Kiser and Rick L the last couple months. I was coming of elbow reconstruction and shoulder surgery when I first saw them. I’m a college baseball player and they are doing a fantastic job. They know my goal is to pitch at a high level again, and they are thinking outside of the box with exercises to get my arm ready for extreme stress while pitching. Im starting to feel like myself again. Also, they’re great guys.

I spent several months on my own trying to recover from my injuries with no success and after just a few weeks with Dr. Rick LaFave and Travis Kiser I could tell their pt was helping me recover. They help you understand where you are and what areas you need to work to aid in your recovery. I had a great experience I know I have more work to do but I was provided with the exercises, tools and knowledge needed to continue forward. Thank you for everything.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Athletico by my doctor. I've never been there before, and they made me feel like I've been going there for years. I've had three surgeries, and I've never experienced the level of expertise that I get from David. David's passion for helping people get better is unbelievable!. The patients he has with new clients is beyond welcoming. Understanding the situation you're in he sets up exercises that pertain to that specific area. David double checks with you while you're performing the exercise to make sure its with comfort, and not discomfort. Athletico definitely hit it out the park with this one. David is legit I promise you! If you're uncertain about physical therapy and feel they're a joke you're wrong!! you got to come and see David! If it were my way I'd decorate that office with a million Awards that represent best practice, and make google do a 10 star scale because David really got 10 stars! But I guess he'll have to take that up with google at another time. Peace ✌

Fantastic experience: A big thank you to Dave and Travis for helping me with my pickle ball rotator cuff injury. Knowledgeable and friendly, they gradually increased my workouts and motivated me to keep pushing. I’m now back to all my daily activities and will continue with the shoulder strengthening home exercises prescribed for me. PT at Athletico has been a very positive and successful experience.

Fantastic experience: I had a phenomenal experience with Christina as my PT, as well as working with Travis and Cigme (hope I'm spelling that right). Despite limited input from my surgeon, Christina developed a plan that not only rehabilitated my Achilles but also strengthened my legs and core muscles to prevent further injury. She is also very pleasant to work with, making my experience with physical therapy about as enjoyable as it can be.

Fantastic experience: I worked with Dave to improve my neck rotation and to fix my thoracic outlet issue. Dave was friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and he listened to and answered my questions. Update January 2022 — I had a small flare up last week similar to what I originally had when I first came to Athletico. I reached out to Dave via email to see if he could send me some stretches and exercises because I had lost the document I received on my last visit nearly a year earlier. Dave responded over the weekend with a personalized email asking how I was even though he’s out of the office for a week. Not only is Dave a great therapist, but he also gets an A+ in customer service! Athletico is fortunate to have him and I’m thankful for the opportunity to have worked with him!

Fantastic experience: I have used Athletico twice now, for two different injuries. I love the early and late hours, the friendly staff and especially Dr Rick and trainer Travis who worked together to get me to my goal. They are very knowledgeable! I will actually miss going to P.T. :)

They are, of course focusing on your physical well-being, but when needed, you can talk to anyone ESPECIALLY Dave and Travis about how you are feeling in that moment. Calming stretches and exercises are given based on what you tell them you feel need’s focusing on. Everyone here listens to your concerns about any pain you have and they take that into consideration by stopping you from the current exercise and moving you to a more comfortable, pain focused exercise. The office staff is spectacular and has made this so easy to just do what I needed to do to heal. The aids at this location are very personable, and have a vested interest in health care. They make you feel like a friend when you walk in. Truly appreciate that. Christina has been my therapist and she is amazing. She isn’t afraid to share her thoughts on your individual situation, and adjust the course of action as necessary. Each doctor works closely with each other (Christina, Dave, and Rick) and each have had their part in my treatment. Fantastic experience: Rick and all of the staff at Athletico East Lansing were extremely professional and welcoming to me. I felt confident that I was receiving the best treatment for my knee. If I ever had a problem or pain in my knee, they listened to what I had to say and worked with me to fit my program to what I needed. They also took the time to explain what was happening in my body to cause my pain which made me feel included in my own care. I highly recommend this group!

Fantastic experience: I have been visiting Athletico for more than 2 months to receive physical therapy for sever back pain. I am very happy and satisfied with their efforts and attention to help me overcom the pain. Especially, with the help of Rick and Emma and their appropriate excercise routines I have been able walk normally with minimal or no pain at all. I highly recommend Athletico for physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: I went to Athletico to work through some pain in my left knee. It was a great experience for me. Not only is my pain greatly reduced, but I learned a lot of skills that I can practice going forward. Every single member of the staff was a joy to work with!

Fantastic experience: Been going to Athletico for a while. I would strongly recommend going there for PT. They were very accommodating to my schedule and did an excellent job treating me. Rick did a great job of helping me rehab my frozen shoulder and recover from labrum surgery. He has a lot of experience and has a dry needling certification. I have had a lot of surgeries and gone to multiple different physical therapists. I learned more from Rick in a couple sessions than I have from all the physical therapists I have seen over the years combined. In addition, the facility is well kept and they are compliant with COVID protocol. Everything is wiped down after use. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

Fantastic experience: I had a very good experience with David and Rick the main pt therapist's. They were very knowledgeable and made a point to educate me on things like the structure of the nerves and spinal column. They also were good about concentration on my core and legs. In order to support my back. It had a very good effect on my pain. It didn't eliminate it but I have reduced my pain medication about 50% and increased my mobility and flexibility by another 50%..I was very pleased with them and highly recommend them for any one needing physical therapy

Fantastic experience: Great place to go for PT, they are so nice and knowledgeable. Rick aka (The Warden) is the best, he knows his stuff and is funny too, he made having to work parts of my body that didn’t work not seem like a chore. It really helped me too!

The process was easy to accommodate my schedule, the staff was professional, and the physical therapist was excellent in treating my neck, spine and shoulders. Everything is being sprayed down often due to Covid guidelines and I felt safe every time. I would strongly recommend this P.T. place for your health needs due to the highly qualified credentials and continuing education classes they continue to receive to update their skills. Negative experience: You do not want to be treated by Carl Weaver. He stole money from my family then lied about it, and pretended to be busy when we arranged a meeting to ask him about that. I could write a whole essay about this, but I think I'll leave it at that. Trust me, I thought he'd be good too. My orthodontist reccomended him. But Dr. Weaver is very sneaky in the way he scams you. Do you really want to risk it?

My frozen shoulder is moving freely again. They used a variety of manipulation therapies and strengthening exercises to reach obtainable goals, and they listened to my needs. Scheduling is easy. Fantastic experience: After a root canal, I couldn't open my mouth enough to eat normally. The next week, the dentist told em to come back when I could open my mouth to prepare the tooth for a crown. After a few weeks, my wife suggested finding a TMJ specialist, and Carl at Athletico was amazing! Great skills and gentle and explained what was going on. After only 5 treatments and a few home exercises I am back to normal and my teeth are fixed. And they handled the insurance!

Fantastic experience: Had limited mobility, chronic greater trochanter bursitis, and loss of muscle strength following hip replacement three and a half years ago. Saw five physicians, a physical therapist, a yoga therapist, a massage therapist, and an athletic trainer. Had x-rays, MRIs, an EMG, cortisone shots, and finally resorted to CBD oil and lotion to manage pain. Carl Weaver knew immediately what was wrong and how to treat it. Six weeks later I am pain free and have full mobility and significantly improved strength. I also saw Rick LaFave while Carl was on vacation and he, too, is highly skilled. Negative experience: Their billing services are horrible and abusive. They seem to be own by a big company that tries to overcharge us under the threat to hurt our credit record. It's been almost a year and they keep sending me a bill that I have paid for and that I have called to complain about more than 10 times. I don't see any other solution that going over there in person to complain. So on top of the harassment with the bills they make me waste my time. I see other people have also complained about the same issue.

Fantastic experience: Carl Weaver saved my life - or at least, my QUALITY of life! I had been suffering from increasing lower back pain for the last several months; to the point where I couldn't walk for more than a few minutes on any type of hard surface without feeling excruciating pain. This was especially problematic, as I teach both Yoga and martial arts. My longtime doctor - the absolutely peerless Dr. Henry Barry at the MSU Clinical Center - examined me and quickly recognized that my spine was out of alignment; and gave me a scrip for Carl. Carl immediately determined that it was my L5 and L6, and that my sacrum was twisted and my pelvis misaligned. Over a series of several visits, he worked my spine (and let me just say, WORKED; the guy is STRONG), to readjust it back into alignment. He also gave me a number of exercises to strengthen the surrounding muscles, and retain and enhance flexibility. Now, just a month later, I can walk freely without pain for the first time in MONTHS, and even have side-to-side flexion back - something I had completely lost. INCREDIBLE. It bears noting that he also helped rehab my wife's misaligned pelvis many years ago - returning HER quality of life as well! The guy is nothing short of a savior. AMAZING. THANK YOU CARL!!! :-)

Negative experience: This office is billing me for a procedure that wasn't provided nor asked for. I attempted to talk to them and their main office though they are unresponsive. Stay away!

Negative experience: I've never had such a mess with billing in my life. It's been six months and they still have not correctly billed my insurance. It's creating a huge issue with my deductible that I cannot resolve. I've called about 6 times and they still have not corrected the error. Please save yourself the trouble -- DON'T GO!!
