Fantastic experience: Northern Oaks is a wonderful facility for patients and residents needing skilled nursing and long-term care services. The direct care staff hold themselves accountable to high standards of care and strive to create a safe home for residents. I have come to know some of the staff over the last few years and have been impressed by their motivation to continually improve and serve those in need of care.

The staff is compassionate, attentive, and dedicated to providing personalized care for each resident. One standout feature is the dining experience. The hardworking dietary team goes above and beyond to prepare delicious, nutritious meals that cater to individual needs and preferences. One of my favorite facilities to work for!

Fantastic experience: My experience working at Northern Oaks Living and Rehabilitation was one where the core values of the organization was practiced. Employees’ concerns were top priority, which empowered the employees to speak up. This not only encouraged the employees to take ownership of the workplace and the care that they provide to the patients and the residents but also held everyone accountable for their actions, including the Leadership Team. My Executive Director, Brian Starkey, provided excellent mentorship and was incredibly supportive, fostering a positive and productive work environment. I highly recommend N. Oaks to anyone seeking a rewarding career in the post acute care setting.

Fantastic experience: I received the best ever care in the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The physical therapy was excellent after my Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. The only problem I had was that someone "dropped the ball" and had to go without some of my meds for 24-36 hours.

Fantastic experience: The staff at Northern Oaks is as close to family as you can get. They are caring, friendly and conscientious. The facility is clean, light and bright, with attention to detail. It is obvious that the team here has the safety and comfort of your loved ones and the top priority.

Fantastic experience: My mother stayed her from the end of April 2024-July 2024 . She was well taken care of and I felt so much better knowing she was safe and watched over by all the caring staff . I have not a single complaint.

Negative experience: I just took my husband out of this place. No decent air conditioning ( they are working on it ? ) The social worker has a refrigerated unit in her office and keeps the door closed. Nice and cool in there for sure. They said my husband couldn't take care of himself after three minutes of activity and needed help. No one had to help him dress, eat, walk ( he uses a walker for stability only ) or wipe his posterior, brush teeth or shave. His room mate complained about my husband's nebulizer making to much noice but he could keep the television on all night long. They broke husband spirits and he lost his confidence. You have to sign out just to go set on the front porch.

Fantastic experience: Friendly and caring environment, clean and welcoming facility and staff that go above and beyond to care for their residents. I highly recommend Northern Oaks to anyone looking for a compassionate facility for their loved one.

Negative experience: No stars...place stinks when you walk in the door. People are very rude and lie to your face. I would never recommend anyone to go to this place.

Negative experience: This place has been on my last nerve for some time now. When you put a loved one somewhere for additional help, then they end up not receiving the proper help they are needing because you are short handed is an issue. When that same loved one has to endure multiple (extra) surgical procedures because of the you short staff always being in a hurry to help and "accidents" happen. It really is a shame that this place can't keep good help.

Positive experience: I love working here at Northern oskes we are friendly staff who take grate care of our residents as far as the building goes yes it is andpld building but that also fixed it up new ac/heating systems and as far as bugs go I haven't seen one I'ma a very long time staffing goes yes we would love to have more staff but the ones we do have we all work together as a team as well as the nurses and upperanagment love u all

Fantastic experience: Lovely facility!

Negative experience: I recently brought my charge to Northern oaks for respite care. Not only did they not administer his meds, they took an hour or more to respond to the call button, they had horrible food, and they didn’t do his breathing treatment or BiPAP…NOT GOOD CARE AT THIS FACILITY!!!

Negative experience: The fact that they have workers that steal from other co workers is crazy. Who knows if they haven’t stolen from the residents. This place is a joke. Watch your family members and their things. Stuff might just disappear

Fantastic experience: I was very worried about leaving my husband for a short term stay at a nursing home but I didn’t need to be. He received loving and patient care by all the staff at Northern Oaks and had nothing but glowing reports to share. Thank you for taking such good care of him.

Fantastic experience: The most welcoming staff I’ve ever encountered. Everything was so clean and organized I was very Impressed! I would definitely recommend this facility to friends and/or family.

Negative experience: I prefer to stay anonymous and be open and honest as possible. Understaffed facilities are always hurting. This facility expects there workers to do miracles and take care of too many patients at one time. The staff to patient ratio is ridiculous. But that's not the only problem at this facility. From many things breaking down and the bug infestation. This building is completely out dated and needs new repairs. I can honestly say that this facility needs be cleaned properly. It's always a mess and smells terrible. That is probably why the building has so many bugs because it's not being properly cleaned like it's supposed to with housekeeping and pest control. I would not send my loved ones to a messy facility like this. Like all facilities they have there problems but this facility time and time again refuses to fix the problem and chooses to ignore it.

Positive experience: UPDATE: I recently had to warn an LVN by the name of Eddie Dulaney to never contact me again via a social media page...he has attacked me in the past before-he harassed me via another person's page and FABRICATED A HUGE LIE about me in full view of others. I wrote him and told him if He ever did so again I would personally contact Northern Oaks (Being he involved them in a way) to let them know of his slander/defamation...in lieu of these events I must warn family members from sending their loved ones to this facility given he handles extremely important documentation for each resident that resides at this facility. Please be careful. As a nurse aide, you will be in the big bucks having to work 13 hour shifts. However, I was unfotunately fired. I was given final notice after a resident, whom had been kicked out of two prior facilities for the same behavior, fabricated a huge tale. Saying I had neglected her only so I could sit out in a pick-up truck to argue with my man (I was single and didn't know anyone personally that drove a pick-up save for my father. It was 3 am at the time the resident alleged I did this). When I told them that all of what this resident had to say was completely untrue...admins response was this: Our policy is to always side with the resident. So be watchful of this place in that respect.My termination came about, according to the DON, because I allegedly walked into a room, pulled the covers back on a sleeping resident and walked out...I don't even remember doing that!! Before I was terminated I was told by someone in administration that I had TWO other CNA's consistently complaining that I wasn't doing my job right. When I had to start fighting back. (timing and dating incontinent briefs and even going as far as photographing a soiled brief...suddenly I was sent home and later terminated.) The biggest insult came when I filed for unemployment and a whole boat load of documentation was sent to me and TWC (when I appealed) that I had never heard, read, or defended myself against. In the end, i ended winning my appeal because of that fact: I, and my co-workers, had no idea where their 'evidence' came from. Well...maybe not...but I can't be sure. It is a run down building. and yes, cock-roaches are EVERY-WHERE!! They are remodeling the building but...looks can be deceiving. When I was there it-was-in-shambles. And I agree with abitx...HORRIBLY RUDE DINING STAFF.

Fantastic experience: All of the nurses took excellent care of my daddy, and he loved all of you guys. Thank you for being so caring and loving towards him:) y'all are greatly appreciated!

Positive experience: My grandpa came here after covid for a bit of rehabilitation and the staff was really good to him. Always let me know when he needed something or how he was doing in therapy. The only problems we had were a few of his outfits went missing even after writing his name in them and his food was almost always cold but other than that; very clean and friendly staff!

Fantastic experience: What a hidden gem! Inside is newly remodeled and the residents and staff are so nice. You can tell the residents are happy here they are always gathered drinking coffee and joking around. Small facility so it has a nice family feel.

Positive experience: My mom went to Northern Oaks for rehab and they worked with wonderful. Everyone was so nice to her and did so much for her. Only thing she didn't like was the food.

My first time stepping into the facility I was greeted by a lady raising her voice telling me not to come in and to get out and shut the door…all because I didn’t have an appointment. Highly regret selecting this facility…I cannot believe how poorly I was treated. Will NEVER use them again for any of my family.

Fantastic experience: I was privileged to be a part of the team at Northern Oaks for a short period of time. The love and care that staff members have and show for the residents here is beyond amazing. I would recommend this facility without question to anyone looking for a place to put their loved ones for care. I would choose this place for my own parents or for myself. The staff here is remarkable. The care is top notch.

Fantastic experience: Clean and nice facility. Great care. Staff is so kind and thoughtful. I’m a paramedic and have been in a lot of facilities and this by far was the most clean and organized facility I’ve been too.

Positive experience: The staff is great, the facility lacks more modern amenities. It can take awhile to get someone to answer your call light. Understaffed mainly at night & weekends. Food is ok. Needs more variety or more choices. You can order & have delivered. I requested to speak to administrators on one occasion but he never came.

Positive experience: Northern Oaks is a quaint little facility located on the North side of Abilene. It has been through a lot of changes ,but the staff there are dedicated and willing to make you feel at home. Courtney Hollis is a special lady to work with and will help you through the process of placing a loved one.

Negative experience: A nurse put her hand in my face while my mom was at the facility. Whoever “Bryan” is did nothing about it. Very rude staff and nurses. I even contacted Carrie Sanders the old DON. Do not bring you family to this facility, they are full of it. The employees/nurses are there just to get paid, sit around and smoke cigarettes all day. Very sad.

Fantastic experience: Northern Oaks is among one of the best Nursing facility in Abilene! We have been really pleased with the level of care, support, and friendliness of the staff. We also wanted to thank the Therapy team, they are AMAZING!! I can not say enough great things about the communication between the facility and our family. Thank you again for all you have done for us especially during this trying time.

Fantastic experience: Northern Oaks specializes in memory care which requires very passionate nurses and CNA’s to handle patients/residents. Northern Oaks has it. The staff always has a smile on their faces and a passion for what they do. I highly recommend Northern Oaks for your loved one. We had a great experience and would go back again if needed. Thank you to the team at Northern Oaks for helping my loved one, we are beyond grateful.

Positive experience: My latee husband died after i pointed out 2dweeks prior he had infection. Staff tried denying infection.

Positive experience: Bad cold food. Slow response times. Understaffed. But I must say what staff are here are a great dedicated group of people.

Fantastic experience: Ive been here qlmost a month and i can say this is the cleanest place i have ever worked the staff os absolutely wonderful, the administrator.DON and ADON are great they are very helpful and from what ive seen care very much about the residents and staff....so far i give it a 5 start for places to work and care given to residents

Positive experience: My experience with my mom has been good as far as her care but then there is that one bad apple that has to make it bad. There is that one nurse with a bad attitude and one day she was bringing my mom back to the nursing home from the hospital and she was rude with my mom who is dementia. When she loaded her on the van she smashed her toes against the van. Without saying sorry. I'm certainly putting a complain on her. That's uncalled for to treat a hepless old person like that. But for the most part all the staff is very nice. At least when I'm around. My mom has needed medication to eat more and they have been telling me for months they will get her something and nothing has been done. Now she has lost like 30lbs and is very dehydrated which is why I brought her to the hospital. Glad I did.
