The attending physician is responsible for the care of each patient and for designing the treatment plan. The attending physician will see each patient every day, and other physicians will be consulted as needed.
In addition to our staff of registered nurses and critical care nurses, our team also includes licensed vocational nurses/licensed practical nurses and nursing patient care technicians. A registered nurse is available 24 hours a day to answer questions or address concerns.
Case managers are responsible for overseeing a patient's care from the time they are admitted to the hospital until they are discharged or transferred. If a patient has commercial or private insurance, their case manager will work with the patient's insurance provider. The length of time a patient stays in the hospital at Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals is estimated based on the diagnosis, individualized care plan and recovery protocol.
Physical therapists help patients with physical impairments, limitations, or disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Occupational therapists help patients with changes in physical health that make it difficult to do everyday activities.
Respiratory therapists provide treatment, evaluation, monitoring, and management of patients with breathing disorders. They also provide management of patients requiring mechanical ventilator support, including weaning patients from ventilators. A respiratory therapist is available 24 hours a day to provide care.
Dietitians will assess what the patient's specific dietary needs are, what their meal preferences are, and if they have any allergies. As the patient improves, the dietitian will also work with the physician and speech-language pathologist to help the patient advance their diet safely.
No, Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals are not the same as nursing homes. Nursing homes provide long-term care for those who cannot be discharged from the hospital, whereas Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals provide care for those who are ready to be discharged from the hospital, but require an additional extended period of intensive medical care before they are ready to return home.
Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals are licensed and certified as acute care hospitals designed for patients suffering from critical illness, injury or chronic conditions that require an extended period of intensive medical care. Nursing homes are not licensed hospitals and are therefore not equipped to provide the intensive medical care, comprehensive care team and daily physician visits available at Cornerstone.
A: General acute care hospitals are designed for patients with acute conditions that can be resolved over a short period of time. Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals, on the other hand, are designed for patients suffering from critical illness, injury or chronic conditions that require an extended period of acute intensive medical care.
At Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals, we are dedicated to providing an excellent patient experience and achieving outstanding clinical outcomes. Our interdisciplinary teams work together to deliver superior patient care and make a positive difference in our patients' lives.
A: Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals accept patients seven days a week who are referred by physicians or case managers at an acute care hospital or other healthcare facility (such as a rehabilitation facility, nursing home, etc.). All referrals are evaluated by clinically trained healthcare professionals prior to admission.
A: If your doctor believes that Cornerstone Specialty Hospital services are medically necessary, we can help you appeal to your insurance provider. However, your insurance provider will usually make the final decision about whether the services are medically necessary.
At Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals, our caregivers are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to treat the most medically complex patients. Our clinical teams are directed by physicians and include specialized healthcare professionals who are involved in all aspects of a patient’s care.
A: The patient's attending physician, in consultation with the interdisciplinary treatment team, decides the patient's length of stay.
B: Case managers work with physicians, patients, families, and managed care plans to determine when and where a patient will be discharged.
The frequency of therapy sessions for a patient is determined by that patient's individual care plan. If a patient requires therapy, their participation is based on their ability level and need. Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals provides early and aggressive physical intervention and therapy.
The Cornerstone Medically Complex Program is designed to treat patients with multiple medical diagnoses who require intensive care nursing and therapies. These therapies may include PT, OT, SPL, nutrition, medication management, wound care, dialysis and special procedures. Cornerstone's Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set realistic goals and deliver optimal medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment. This program may include a concurrent Medical Physical Rehabilitation Program.
Cornerstone's Pulmonary/Ventilator Program offers individualized treatment plans for patients with a wide variety of cardiopulmonary/medical needs. Our team of specialists develops a tailored plan for each patient, which may include supplemental oxygen therapies, complex ventilator management, and weaning protocols. We offer both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation support, utilizing a variety of techniques. Our Pulmonary Program is managed by physicians who specialize in pulmonology and critical care, and our Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set viable goals and achieve medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment.
The Cornerstone Medical Physical Rehabilitation Program provides individualized treatment plans for patients who need help with basic mobility, self-care, swallowing, and strength endurance. Our goal is to help patients become as independent as possible by improving their mobility, strength, and endurance.
The Cornerstone Infectious Disease Program offers individualized treatment programs for patients who have been ill for some time and may have an infectious disease requiring a constant dose of fluids and medications to effectively reduce or eliminate the infection. Our team of specialists is trained and specializes in infectious disease and antibiotic stewardship programs. Cornerstone's Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set realistic goals and deliver optimal medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment.
The Cornerstone Neurology Program focuses on patients who may have had a stroke, brain injury, aneurysm, are now post-trauma or have other types of neurology related medical issues. Our interdisciplinary team and physicians focus on the pathway to get the patients back home by stabilizing and providing the specialized care plan for the patient and the involvement, support and training the families need. Cornerstone's Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set realistic goals and deliver optimal medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment. Patients who have neurology related medical issues may also have a concurrent customized Medical Physical Rehabilitation Plan to support their recovery.
The Cornerstone Post ICU Syndrome Program focuses on those patients who have developed additional related health issues after being in the ICU. Our interdisciplinary team and physicians are skilled in developing customized plans of care for patients who may have developed muscle weakness, sepsis, difficulty with daily living skills, mobility, cognitive dysfunction or other related issues. Cornerstone's Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set realistic goals and deliver optimal medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment. Many of these issues also impact the family of the patient, and our programs are designed to support and involve them in their loved ones' recovery process. This may include a concurrent Physical Medical Rehabilitation Program.
The Cornerstone Wound Care Program offers an interdisciplinary team of physicians who are dedicated to developing highly customized treatment plans for patients who have developed wounds and related healthcare issues. Treating wounds is a specialized process requiring a plan that is sensitive to the individual patient and where they are in their healing journey to provide the best recovery plan for each person. Cornerstone's Interdisciplinary Care Team works collaboratively to set realistic goals and deliver optimal medical functional outcomes in a high quality, safe and caring environment.
The Cornerstone Care Programs are designed for patients who are acutely ill and need extended care in order to recover. These programs focus on recovery, and include family involvement and support. The Cornerstone Interdisciplinary Care Team works together to set goals and ensure optimal medical outcomes in a safe and caring environment. The recovery process may include concurrent Physical Medical Rehabilitation.

Fantastic experience: Solara provided multiple services that my family member required and would benefit from. We admitted confidently knowing that multiple services and doctors would be available daily. From respiratory treatments, IV medication management, to a great wound care team, and all 3 therapy services for walking, swallowing, and hand mobility. Admitted with unable to stand to leaving walking with some assistance. Nurses were consistently available and very knowledgeable. The wound healing was so impactful; admitted with an extensive wound that we worried about how long it would take to heal. Their wound vac equipment and wound care techniques helped the healing tremendously. The Respiratory team provided crucial information that helped in the respiratory recovery. Their empathy, patience, and knowledge impacted tremendously, from using oxygen to none needed at discharge. CNA and Housekeeping teams checked in often for any needs. Receptionists were very welcoming upon arrival and provided necessary paperwork we needed. Case Manager worked kindly with us as a family, explaining and preparing us for with the initial admission plan and the discharge process. The healing outcome progressed so significantly while admitted at Solara which allowed us to go home for discharge.

Positive experience: Very few staff, food is only served twice a day and smallest portions I’ve ever seen nor taste good at all but the worst part is the pungent smell even at the entrance. Not even in Mexico, when you Walk into a clinic, hospital or even a pharmacy it smells like alcohol here it’s days old urine smell. I couldn’t bear to be there for more Than 15 minutes. Why? I know they can’t use Clorox but is Lysol Or some sort of air disinfectant not accepted either? Nurses are prompt and do a good job So Far.

Negative experience: My cousin is being a patient right now and the nurse is very rude with him. Every time he asked to have his blankets the nurse made comments as she did not have time to be doing it. The attitude from the nurse is unacceptable and is essentially for patients to receive a decent attention.

Negative experience: My father was in this facility for a month.I always had to call multiple time before I can actually speak to a nurse and all they would ever said was he’s fine everything is good he will be discharged as soon as he gets his strength back. I talked to the nurse on the night of April 18, I told him my dad hasn’t been eating (he was unaware) and I wanted to know what was going on. He couldn’t give me an answer but said he would talk to the nurse in the morning. The next day my brother had to ask the nurse to check my dad because he was jaundice. Again they were unaware!!!!! He was transferred to ICU and he had a stroke and passed away the next day. I’ve been leaving voicemails and nobody ever calls me back. This is the worse facility ever!

Positive experience: My husband just spent 25 days at this facility. Over all the quality of care was good, we did have some issues with a couple of nurses, but majority of the Nurse's, PT & OT therapist, Nurse Assistants, food service, House keeping and Charge Nurse were Awesome. Negative experience: my mother had to wait an hour and 30 minutes to get changed from doing the bathroom. The only reason I know this is because my mother was with a guest and she would not leave until they changed her. It just makes me wonder how they are when she's all alone.

Fantastic experience: My father has been in Solara Brownsville Tx. Facility for 2 weeks recovering from a severe infection and sepsis. Me and my family are so grateful for the entire staff at this facility, it brings me to tears how kind and helpful everyone has been towards my father. From the nurse staff, to the cleaning lady, to the person that brings him his food everyday, the other nurse that bathes him and makes sure he’s clean. The attention has been exceptional! We have been able to go home at night knowing he is well taken care of. We are also very content with how clean this place is, there is someone constantly making sure the rooms are clean and sanitary, also a big relief. He will still be at the facility for two more weeks or so and we feel so grateful and blessed that he is in amazing hands. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Solara Brownsville and your amazing staff!!!!!

Negative experience: I definitely don’t recommend this place. It smells like sewage, the bathrooms are from the early 1800s. They give 15 patients per CNA. Poor staff can’t take care of all these patients at the same time. They promise you everything at the hospital only to full fill absolutely nothing. The food is horrendous nothing like Valley Baptist or Valley Regional. We kept bringing our family member food from home. The call light rang for over 30 mins. I don’t recommend this place at all. The rooms have ants! I have them on Facebook and I see the reviews are from the employees. How much do they pay them to put reviews? Is that part of the hiring process. Just check all the names with the people in pictures on the Facebook page of solara. Sad! Sad! Sad! The place doesn’t even have security! They transported my relative to another hospital for a procedure! What type of a hospital is that! Close that place down! I’m surprised they haven’t been sued yet for medical negligence. The patient next to my relative yelling and the poor lady nobody would help her. They would just peep in the room and walk away! What type of hospital is that. The trays they leave them on the sink. My relative had to call us for us to call the nurses station to send someone to the room. Jessica Trevino promised us the world and the serve was nothing close to what was promised. I knew she said what she had to say for the bonus. Very sad! The charts they have are paper charts they’re violating HIPPA cause we can see the names! Huge no no!

Negative experience: I would NOT recommend this place they failed to properly care for my father. Dont bring a loved one here that has more than one complication. Their not trained well. My father was very vocal about not recommending this place. He said “these people dont know what they’re doing these people are going to kill me”. They also need training in how to help a patient’s mental health!

Positive experience: Staff is great, while family members are there overlooking everything. Once you leave your loved one , it’s a different story. My mom complains that once she’s alone the staff forgets she’s there. They don’t answer when she calls and if they do, they’ll tell her they’ll be right back and then don’t. Also the Night Shift think it’s party time cause they’re very loud while laughing and playing all night and leave patients room door open so they can’t even get some sleep. I get that the nurses need to get by that hard shift somehow but they can also be a little bit more considerate and try to keep it down some

Negative experience: Don’t leave your family members side. My dad received good care from the physical therapy team. But other than that it wasn’t great. I had a review I had done on here back in April and I had to delete it. Days before my dads incident that happened there at solara made me realize this hospital is no good. After my dads passing many other people who attended his funeral gave the same comments to us just as the reviews that are here.

Negative experience: Really bad management and communication. I have a family there been there for several weeks already but they tell my family member something and when the doctor comes by he never knows who gave the order and that he is going to check on that and that been like for several days. For example they told him he might be able to go home on the following days, they came they prepare him and Doctor comes by and he is like I don't know who gave the order like really nursing staffing great service

Positive experience: My father was sent here after having a stroke. He was here for 1 month and then sent to the nursing home right across. Some of the nurses were very attentive some weren’t. My father was half paralyzed and couldn’t communicate. He had to stick his hand in his booty (full of poop) to show them he needed to be change cus oh the nurse button wasn’t working …. Took make matters worst when he was sent to the rehab center they did not let us know that my dad still had pneumonia, he had a uti which led to kidney failure… he only lasted a week in the nursing home. He vomited himself and it went to his lungs, since he can’t communicate nor move he couldn’t ask for help.. he went into septic shock coded and passed that night.. everyday at solara we would ask for doctors feedbacks and they would say he was getting better . They just need him to get off the trache tube. But the nursing home told us the opposite. Not sure who to believe now the hospital or the rehab center. I do want to thank the respiratory therapist of the hospital, two amazing nurses who were always attentive and happy to help my father and of course our case worker was super patient and helpful. Negative experience: Once again another terrible hospital. Doctor Guevara is absolutely terrible, inattentive, and passive aggressive. Do not recommend him at all if you decide to come to this stupid establishment. The nurses are very rude and inattentive as well, don’t know why they pick this profession. Save your time.

Negative experience: Horrible service the case manager she is a very rude and very unprofessional her name is Jackie Zavala they just laugh about the patients they just see the patients as clients for them is all about money. Even the round Dr.Layiwola he is so rude with the family he won’t answer any questions and won’t say anything about results or labs if a family member of yours is going the be sent here don’t accept please you will regret it the food service is horrible also..

Negative experience: I'm concerned about what goes on in this facility regarding patient safety. When employees use company time for their "personal" relationships, I dont believe they are focused and dedicated workers. I would hate to see this disgusting behavior go overlooked and tolerated.

Negative experience: I would give this place a -3 if I could. This place was negligent to my father when he was a patient there, to the point where he would rather be dead than to stay there which is really sad. The stuff there gives me the runaround at acts like they care when they really don't because it is not their father who was a patient there. Little minor things are apparently against HIPAA violation which is not true so if you ask how many legs does a person have they cannot answer that because it's a policy violation according to them. This place is very substandard and should not actually be operating all the personnel there should be fired and display should be closed down.

Fantastic experience: Been here for 8 days and this hospital really took me from 0 to 100%. I'm beyond grateful for the great staff, liasion, social worker, nurses, cooks, doctors, RT, PT, and everyone who I encountered at room #26. The relax environment definitely helps with recovery and it's just without a doubt a 5 star hotel! Recommend over and over again!
