Baptist Health Homestead Hospital offers full service medical services including emergency care for adults and children, critical care, and rehabilitation.
With specialized services and compassionate care, Homestead Hospital is a beautiful, big-city hospital nestled in a small, growing community. It houses Baptist Health Rehabilitation, a 23-bed comprehensive medical rehabilitation program and offers Pediatric Emergency Care, among other world class healthcare offerings.
Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, Baptist Health Homestead Hospital is a modern, full-service 147-bed facility with private rooms. Services include an Emergency Center with 44 treatment rooms and a trauma room, a separate Children’s Emergency Center, a critical care unit, and comfortably-appointed birthing suites. Homestead Hospital is also home to Baptist Health Rehabilitation, a hospital-based, acute inpatient rehabilitation unit featuring individualized programs for the care of adult and pediatric patients (ages 4 and older) who are facing a critical or disabling injury or illness. In addition, the “Healthy Homestead” vision is to be a community where people prioritize health and well-being. Working with partners in South Dade, the goal is to inspire and empower local residents to improve their nutrition, fitness, and overall understanding of wellness. To assist with this effort, the Grow2Heal garden on campus grows organic food that is served to patients, visitors and staff, and is also used to educate the community through a number of initiatives.
Through shared governance, Baptist Health nurses provide superior evidence-based patient- and family-centered care utilizing a professional model of practice. By embracing leadership, collaboration and service excellence, they demonstrate advocacy and support for staff, patients, families and physicians.
Baptist Health and Nicklaus Children’s Health System are working together to ensure that the children in our community continue to receive the highest quality emergency care. The pediatric emergency physicians at Homestead Hospital are now part of Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
Our physicians will continue to provide the same high-quality, compassionate care you have come to expect. Through this collaboration, they will also have access to the extensive array of pediatric subspecialists on Nicklaus’ medical staff to support your child’s specialized care needs.
Pediatric patients treated in a Baptist Health emergency department and requiring hospital admission will be transferred to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to receive ongoing care. Homestead Hospital continues to provide neonatal intensive care.
Homestead Hospital’s Grow2Heal garden has been cultivating fresh fruits and vegetables for patients, visitors, employees and local organizations in need since 2014.
Hospital leadership dedicated vacant land adjacent to the hospital to develop an organic – and sustainable – garden as a way to offer the community fresh, nutritious foods with a far-reaching impact.
The Grow2Heal community garden at Homestead Hospital is also a creative solution to ongoing challenges with chronic disease management and preventive healthcare and is used to educate the community through school fieldtrips, health fairs, cooking demonstrations, wellness workshops and support groups.
The fruits of our labor provide people with a bounty of health benefits, including boosting the immune system and managing chronic health issues. We know that good nutrition is important to overall wellness. We are committed to delivering good health, from the ground up.

Baptist Health Homestead Hospital: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Great experience. Thankfully everything worked out. Janelly especially, thank you so very much for making me feel extra comfortable. It’s great to see there are still great people out there that care for others.
Fantastic experience: Yesterday I had a procedure done by Dr Ruiz at Baptist Health Homestead Hospital and I have to commend all the staff involved. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed by the front desk guard and the registration representative was friendly and thorough. Nurse Heather was very kind and friendly and the anesthesiologist, discharge nurse and of course Dr Ruiz were very caring and professional. Everyone is welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. I highly recommend Baptist Health Homestead Hospital and staff. God bless and keep up the good work! ????
Fantastic experience: I was seen by imaging today and it was a good experience Luis and Oliver are outstanding professionals and both showed me compassion, care and helped ease my anxiety with the headphones playing beautiful gospel music during my MRI. This hospital is excellent and I it has streamline service from entering to exit/discharged. Special Thank you to the lovely lady in the restaurant she knows how to multi task and I can't remember her name. She was the cashier and she served my food. God's blessings to Homestead Hospital you are doing God's work in a special way. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: My MRI tech was amazing! I am a person that suffers from claustrophobia. I was super nervous and didn’t want to follow through with my appointment. As Olivier (MRI Tech) and I met he was super calming and helped me calm down. It’s like he knew me and played a song that my husband dedicated to me 15 yrs ago. Immediately I felt like. I was in a different place. Little did I know the MRI was done and I was super relieved. I definitely would recommend anyone to go to Homestead Hope Imaging. We need more techs like him in stressful environments!
Fantastic experience: I walked into ER early this week with severe pain in my lower abdomen. After several tests, I was diagnosed with Diverticulosisis, an intestinal infection. Doctors and staff in ER took very good care of me and explained all the procedures they’ll perform in coming days. When I was assigned a room on the third floor I felt confident that everything will be fine. The Staff on the third floor are like none other. Their level of courtesy and patient care is far beyond words. Nurse Vera, Ms. Ashley and Ms. Margot are “the best” and will go far and beyond to see that their patients are treated with dignity and utmost respect. They answered all my question and concerns to the best of their knowledge and never hesitated to stop by my room to ask if I was okay or if I needed anything, “on an hourly basis!!” This to me is GOLD!! Thank you Homestead Baptist Hospital for having such outstanding and experienced staff at this location!!
