Negative experience: It is better than any place I have been to. Except they lock all doors at night, and God if there is a fire, I'm certain a lot of us will perish, some people are bed ridden, and cannot belp themselves. With the back doors locked not good.

Negative experience: RUN!!!!Do not walk away from this facility. Their act is not together, and is very unorganized. The state should shut this place IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!

Negative experience: The level of neglect is astounding and shameful. I am filing an Agency for Healthcare Complaint against them today 11/06/2023. This was a 4.5 Star facility when it was Glen Oaks, then it was bought and changed to Orchid Cove and went downhill fast. The RN won't even acknowledge you when your standing in front of her trying to alert them to a urgent health matter. I pray everyone at that corporation ends up like their patients.

Negative experience: When this place used to be Glen Oaks, it was the best care for my client. Since 2020, Orchid Cove has been, the worst, by far, nursing facility to work with. It's all about the money. I would not recommend this place to anyone. No one says anything to you. You try to call and no one picks up. If you go to visit after hours, it takes an act of God for someone to come to the door and let you in. And when they do let you in, they look at you as you are the ground they walk on. Although most of the facilities nowadays are awful, this one takes the cake. The turnover there is unreal. A new admin, Social worker, and exec director each month. It goes to show what you are working with and how they treat your residents. I wish my client had enough money for a caregiver to come in and sit with her. It's so sad. Stay away!!!

Negative experience: My mother resided at this facility for 5 months. She was not bathed well. She smelled horrible often and hair was dirty often. They made her eat in her bed and rarely cut up her food. She is 84 with dementia and has a lot of trouble doing things and needed assistance. I was witness to one Med error and caught a second but also felt there were far more errors because of how mom would be when I would see her. After we moved her she wasn’t like how she was at this place. For a long time hot meals were cold and when I would ask about it they would look at me like I was asking for too much. They stuffed her in her wheelchair and took her ability to walk away. She now walks now that she’s out of there. Patio and courtyard are filthy. Cigarette butts and food thrown out into the grass. No attention to any landscape maintenance. Administrative staff has extremely high turnover- so bad that it is frightening. Staff are loud even at night. No respect for the residents sleeping or even during the day. We had a few who I felt were very good but so many staff members were just not good at all and several were very cruel. Very little activities were done if any at all. It’s a very sad place and not where you want your loved one to take their last breath. I just feel there are far better places to put your loved one. Keep looking and don’t settle for this place. It was a true nightmare for me and my mom suffered at this place. I know because after I moved her she is off all the meds they kept her on because she now has a better quality of life and doesn’t need the mood stabilizer meds any longer. Any good reviews make no sense because I was there every day and even many evenings and saw it all very clearly.

Positive experience: Great staff. Only thing I think needs to change is the up keep of the building.. it's very old looking inside and needs up dating as in floors, paint, electric bed.. yes they have alot of crank beds, haven't used them since the 70s.. corporate needs to help the staff by doing these updates then it would be a great place

Negative experience: In my nearly 20 years as a cripple (paraplegia due to motorcycle accident) I have been in many nursing homes, ranging from the acceptable to the horrific. Orchid Cove is firmly in the mediocre camp. The food is typical nursing home fare with no fresh fruit, the gym is the smallest I've ever seen and after a few weeks of therapy is off limits to me. Useless unless you are recovering from a specific malady. The staff ranges from hostile to caring and competent with most of them tending towards the latter. The call light response time is better than most, although lengthy waits are not uncommon. The physical plant is clean and well maintained. The worst thing, something I've never experienced in well over a dozen of these places, is that you can't leave the building unless someone signs you out. So we are virtually as much inmates as patients. I can understand not allowing those with dementia free to wander about but this absurd rule applies to everyone. A social life is vital for psychological health, especially for the elderly. But many of us are unable to easily find someone to sign us out, increasing the isolation so endemic to old age.

Negative experience: Since Glen Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center became Orchid Cove Gulfside, things have gone down hill. This is new management and many of staff have quit and now there are many folks from agencies. The place has a general unclean feeling. Many times I have seen some substance on the floor in my mom's room. There seems to be many residents that stay in bed all day - maybe not their idea but they are unable to get up unassisted. There is no activities to occupy the long day for the residents.

Negative experience: My mother is a patient at Glen Oaks Nursing home, we are glad the Governor opened up the visitation to the family members who has not seen our loved ones in 5 months which leads to a lot of catching up to do about family member about, finances, personnel family business, Private affairs. We had 2 visits which were 20 minutes long, had to be supervised by a Glen Oaks Employee. when I questioned the supervision, I was told it was Glen Oaks Policy. Can the director please show me a written policy or law please provide it to me in writing and the reasoning why so I can challenge the policy. This's a violation of my privacy.

Negative experience: I had to teach a nurse how to give an insulin injection with a flex pen. I had to explain to them how the sliding scale worked on my insulin. That the base of 20 units at 200 was still given with the additional extra units and not just the additional without the 20 base. As a diabetic I have to follow a certain diet. But everyone had the same menu with the exception of its texture such as puree. I was on 24-7 oxygen but strongly discouraged from using the portable tanks which gave me mobility. They lied to me numerous times in saying they didn't have any tank and I had come down there with three tanks. Then they lied in saying.that there regulators did not fit (the.regulators are interchangeable ). I would not recommend this place to anyone.
