Since 1981, Dr. Robert Howell has been providing chiropractic services. Prior to that, he graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 and worked as a veterinarian.
Dr. Howell earned his Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Veterinary credentials from Michigan State University. He is the originator of Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation, which is now a recognized part of Veterinary Medicine. He is still a licensed veterinarian so he can continue to legally adjust animals in Texas, as it is illegal to do so without a Texas Veterinary license.
After many years of being a Chiropractor, he went back to school at the Parker College of Chiropractic and earned a diploma in Chiropractic Orthopedics. This advanced degree is similar to a medical doctor's specialty in that it provides a deeper understanding of the functioning of the leg and arm joints and the treatment of them without surgery.
Doctor Howell has been certified in various techniques for adjusting, such as Motion Palpation, Extremity Adjusting, Manual Spinal Decompression (Cox technique), Thompson, Diversified, Pediatrics, and Kinesiology. His expertise in these techniques allows him to provide high quality care to people of all ages and to treat a wide range of conditions.
Dr. Howell has been accredited in both general physical therapy techniques and Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), which is particularly noteworthy.
Dr. McMahan is a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency at Great Plains Family Medicine. He holds licenses from both the Texas and Oklahoma medical boards, allowing him to practice medicine in both states. Denton, located in North Texas, is a bustling city renowned for its lively music scene, energetic nightlife, picturesque courthouse square, and two significant universities. It is where renowned musicians like Norah Jones and Don Henley developed their skills, a practice which is still ongoing in the many showplaces, pubs, and nightclubs. Even if one just goes to Denton to experience its music, it is worth the trip; however, there is much more to the city than just its music. Denton is also home to two major universities, a vibrant art scene, and a wide range of outdoor activities. Additionally, the city is known for its diverse dining options, ranging from traditional Texas BBQ to international cuisines. Whether one is looking for a night out on the town or a relaxing day in the park, Denton has something for everyone.
Denton has become inseparably connected to the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. It did not originate as a settlement in the early days, but rather was established in 1857 as the county seat, since people wanted it to be located close to the middle of the county. It was not until 1866 that Denton was officially declared a city.
In the early years of Denton, the population grew slowly from 361 people in 1870, 32 of whom were Black, to 1,194 in 1880. However, the 1880s saw the biggest population growth of any decade before the 1980s, with the population more than doubling to 2,558 in 1890. This was due to the completion of the Texas and Pacific Railway from Sherman to Fort Worth and the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railway from Sherman to Dallas, which gave the city access to a rail line. Unfortunately, the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad, which was built in 1887, went around Denton and was not connected to the town for almost seventy years. As a result, Denton did not become a major manufacturing or wholesale center.
In the first century, Denton's growth was largely attributed to its role as the county seat, its agricultural trading hub, and the presence of small-scale industries such as flour mills, cottonseed oil mills, pottery kilns, and blacksmith shops. However, beginning in 1890, the city had something that distinguished it from other agricultural counties: North Texas Normal College (now the University of North Texas) and Girls' Industrial College (now Texas Woman's University). Although their influence was limited for many years, these two universities eventually had a major impact on Denton's character. By the 1980s, the two universities had a combined enrollment of 25,000 students, making up half of the city's population and having a significant influence on its culture and economy.
Denton saw a dramatic increase in population from 1960 to 1980, increasing from 26,844 to 48,063. Its close proximity to Dallas and Fort Worth, along with easy access to the interstate highway, had a major impact on this growth. Additionally, the number of students enrolled at the two universities in the area rose steadily and at times, quickly.
The Sky Theater at the University of North Texas is located in the Environmental Sciences Building on the Denton campus. This theater has a capacity of 100 seats and a 40-foot dome, and is equipped with a high-quality Digistar projection system to give visitors an amazing view of the night sky, 360° full dome video, and the most engaging educational experience in northern Texas.

Fantastic experience: After being in chronic pain for most of my life and spending more money on doctors than I could afford, I decided to try a chiropractor. Dr Howell immediately knew parts of my medical history that I hadn't told him, just by looking at my x-rays. He was the first doctor in my life to know the cause of my chronic pain. I've been going faithfully for more than 2 years and am daily grateful to him and his staff. Even when my chronic issues create difficulties Dr Howell says he hasn't seen in years, his vast experience lets him help me and feel better immediately. His knowledge of food allergies allowed me to pinpoint another health issue I've always had but never knew why.
Fantastic experience: I am writing this review to commend this facility on being professional, friendly, and in my case displayed extreme patient. I chose A Family Chiropractic after having a car accident. I am a father and a student and pain medicine or muscle relaxers have a sedative and addictive effect on me. I am allergic to opiates. I chose their facility after hearing about it from a family member. I visited the facility along with my 2 year old son Luke who also was involved in the accident. I met the amazing woman at the front who responded to my many emails explaining my tardiness due to child arrangements and issues driving myself. She also always made me and my son feel welcome coming in and assisted us above and beyond. The Doctor did not try to get me to do anything extra than adjust (SO EFFECTIVELY) my neck and back, followed by a treatment that was peaceful thanks to the curtains strategically providing the comfort of your room with blacked out curtains, excellent attention to every detail of setting up, checking on me, and helping me to maximize each treatment. I would leave conveniently making my next appointment. My 2 year old son who was having trouble prior to visiting the clinic due to the accident and the hospitals care for him being traumatic and fresh. He was deemed untreatable because he would not cooperate. It was not until after great attempt from possibly the whole staff on site in making the appointment comfortable for him. He was given a ball, taken for a walk, and they were sweet and kind to him no matter how much he would demand he did not want to see a doctor again. I did finish my exam, I came back received much needed care. I was able to with hold from taking pain meds while I made my visits to the clinic. The care provided was second to none. Fantastic experience: Dr. Howell is truly phenomenal. I’ve been to several different chiropractors over the years and he is by far the best. It’s difficult to find someone who genuinely cares about the patient and is also an expert in their field. He is very personable and listens to each individuals needs, rather than apply a “one size fits all” approach to care. That is so important for successful treatment. He is also more than fair with treatment pricing which helps make the treatment more accessible for everyone. I would absolutely without a doubt recommend anyone who is seeking not just spinal treatment but overall better health and well being to come see Dr. Howell and his team. The office ladies are also amazing and excellent at what they do! Everyone is so friendly and you feel like you belong the moment you walk in. Fantastic experience: I greatly appreciate Dr. Howell and his entire staff. They not only care about correcting the issue itself, but see what is best for the whole person. I was having issues similar to fibromyalgia, but no formal diagnosis. Dr. Howell's clinic used gentle adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy exercises and microcurrent therapy. I am able to exercise now and am not having the painful symptoms I had been experiencing for over a year.

Fantastic experience: Dr Howell is amazing. With doing manual labor for work and Jui Jitsu as a hobby, I have ran into my fair share of injuries. My lower back giving me pain and my ribs being out of place have been fixed by Dr Howell. I recommend anyone to at least give this man a try for any ailment that might be chiropractic related.

Fantastic experience: I was a patient of Dr. Howell for many years. I've received care from over 4 chiropractors, starting in 1998. Dr. Howell is excellent at this profession. He's experienced handling babies, children, teens, adults, seniors, farm animals, and house pets. I'm not kidding! If you can openly talk about how you physically feel, take full advantage of the therapy and recovery plan, and ask for help when something is confusing or isn't going right, he's your man. Also, his staff are awesome! Btw Dr. Howell tells a good joke every once and a while, definitely worth it. He and his staff were very accommodating, due to my hectic work schedule OR impromptu appointments resulting from injuries over the years. Sometimes we didn't agree on things outside the clinic, but it didn't hurt our 'patient and doctor' relationship.

I've been a patient here since 2009 and the only issue I've ever had is a couple of snotty employees over the years (they don't keep this type of people around for long though). I've referred several family and friends to this clinic and even make the hour round trip drive because he's the only chiro I trust.
Fantastic experience: Both my boyfriend and I have been treated here and would recommend it to anyone. I was having issues with my back and Dr Howell found that I have a rare condition, came up with a treatment plan and with therapy and his adjustments, I felt 100x better. My boyfriend was suffering from two sliding discs which caused debilitating pain which lead us to the hospital where we found no answers. Only when we went to AFCC, Dr Howell found the problem and after 8 months of consistent treatment, he has done a complete 180. The staff is wonderful and make each visit more enjoyable.
Negative experience: I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone to be treated at. Dr. Howell only adjusted me once (if you even want to call it an adjustment) and was more concerned about the insurance money from my car accident. He said I needed spinal injections and braces that were not needed. Also gave me electric treatment that was unnecessary. He wouldn't listen to anything I was saying and when I had questions I could not speak to him directly and had to go through his employees to get any answers. He tried to take all of my PIP and insurance coverage.... This was the WORST place I have EVER been. I would suggest going somewhere else, and if you have already been here... GET A SECOND OPINION!!
Negative experience: This clinic is fragrance free. Prior to my appointment, no one bothered to tell me this. When I showed up to my appointment, the "fragrance sensitive" chiropractor told me in a condescending tone that I would have to cancel because I was wearing something too "strong," and that I also wouldn't be treated unless I refrained from using scented fabric softeners, scented detergents, and smoking before my visits. I'm guessing shampoo and conditioner are also out since those also tend to be scented. To this I say, no thanks. I shouldn't have to bend over backwards to get care you are being paid to provide. You just lost a patient. Your service "stinks."
