Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation - Frisco

Negative experience: Horrible!! My husband called at night needing to urinate. They told him just go in your diaper. Went to therapy 2 1/2 hours a day then sat in his room for for 21 hours a day. He developed edema to his lower legs. When I would address this to the staff they didn’t do anything. I removed him against medical advice and took him to Encompass. Encompass was amazing!!!

Negative experience: Unless you can afford, or would be allowed to stay with your loved one at this rehabilitation facility, I would strongly seek out another alternative! My Father was admitted to Baylor Scott & White Frisco in June of this year, after suffering a cerebral stroke. Almost immediately we had concerns. We asked that he not be given a urinal to use, but be assisted to the restroom when he needed to go, the staff members assigned to his care chose to give him a urinal to use instead of assisting him to the restroom. After bringing this to the attention of the nurse in charge. A hand written note was posted, but was overlooked or ignored. He was left to wet himself on at least three separate occasions. He was found wearing street clothing he had on the day prior by my sister upon her making an early morning visit and discovered he had been put to bed wearing street clothing . In a separate incident wet bedding and clothing were thrown over into a chair in his room. They were found by my sister, and of course when she made her discovery known, some aide came in to remove them. Each patient is give a call button, but staff were slow to respond. Not just my father, but other patients call light would be lite up, but no one was moving to take care of their needs, and or concerns. I personally saw my dad declining instead of improving at this facility. On one occasion as I entered his room for a visit, he had thrown up and it was really hard to see my 81 year old dad lying there with fresh vomit over him, and his clothes, and even after using the call button to ask for assistance, I had to physically leave the room and find someone, who could get someone into his room to help. Within a day and a half of that visit, my sister requested that dad be taken by ambulance to the hospital as he was displaying signs that something was not right. After his release from the hospital we decided that He was not returning to Baylor Scott & white, He returned home and with the assistance of therapist is doing so much better. There is so much more I want to say but will end this here………please , If you have to take a loved one to this facility, visit often, visit at different times, document what you see, and hear, and take pictures. Don’t be afraid to speak up!

Fantastic experience: I only have compliments, a great place to go when you need recovery. The best nurses, techs, doctors, therapists and their techs. A real hospital that cares about its patients, I speak out of experience, I would recommend it to anyone who asks me.

Fantastic experience: A couple years back, I had to be here full time for some odd months. Then moved to part time for a month after those months, before discharge. It was very arduous and frustrating. I hated it, I just wanted to be normal again and continue my life as it was before. But I can say with full confidence, I would not be where I am if it weren't for the services I received while here. I actually shudder to think about it. I am completely serious. A huge thank you to Christie, Ashley, Meredith, all the PCTs, and everyone else involved in my care. They were so personable and passionate about the care they gave. And thank you for your patience with me when I'd get frustrated. I wouldn't be where I am without this facility.

Negative experience: I was just discharged from the rehab today. Recovering and rehabbing from a revision spinal surgery. My husband was supposed to pick me up at 4:30 PM and at approximately 4:37 people started coming in the room asking me when he was going to be there and how soon could I leave out of the room because it was needed. I certainly understand that other new admissions needed to be done but the approach was unacceptable, unprofessional and hurtful. The gentleman Jerome did try to explain it to me as best as possible and I understand The necessity for me to vacate the room but again the approach was not acceptable. I will say this. The rehab team is phenomenal. Jenna really helped me!!! I absolutely adore Candace and appreciate her kindness. Teresa is a phenomenal asset to Baylor as well. Ester and a few of the other nurses that I can’t remember by name were incredible. However without being redundant my discharge was not handled as best as possible. I would also like to acknowledge and give thanks to the chaplain for being such a special woman of God. I met some really nice people there but left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Fantastic experience: The staff at Baylor has been awesome while supporting me through my difficult recovery post back surgery. The communication and teamwork between the PT, OT, doctors and nurses is excellent. Thankful to have them guiding me through this!

Fantastic experience: Best place for rehabilitation! The way staff took care of my Mom was absolutely amazing and activities were also very helpful in her treatment. Dr Spicer, Dr Shariff, Annie (OT), Kyla (PT), Kyla’s assistant, all nurses and techs did their best and provided great care for my Mom. Highly recommend Baylor Rehab Frisco!

Negative experience: I never leave reviews, but I don’t want anyone else’s family member to endure this….Please do your research and ask questions about the facility, your injury, your healing schedule, ask your doctor before you come what your healing process should look like and what to watch for, etc…. If this place is your only choice, please do everything you can to advocate for yourself or your family members and manage your expectations. Cons My aunt was in a horrible accident and almost lost her entire foot. An amazing surgeon saved her foot, but this facility did not do a good job helping her heal. When she arrived, there was no wound care doctor to help with her major foot wounds and for 7 days while the wound care doctor was on vacation (happy for them everyone needs time off, but it seems like there should be a replacement) , there was no on call wound care doctor or any adequate wound care at all and my aunt ended up with NECROSIS (dead tissues) on more than 1 place on her foot. The doctors at the facility said it was “fine and a part of the healing process” and when she went back to see her surgeon a couple days later, he COMPLETELY disagreed and was concerned about my aunts foot being viable and ended up have to talk to her about the potential for amputation if they can’t stop the necrosis. As of day 16 of her stay, the rehab became very aggressive about getting her out of her room and sent home even though her doctor went out of his way to tell the facility that she needs 4-6 more week as she has not made much of any progress sense he saw her and amputation is possible. WE BELIEVE THEY BECAME PUSHY BECAUSE MEDICARE PAYS LESS TO THE REHAB AFTER DAY 16. I understand wanting to get paid your worth, THATS IMPORTANT, but your medical ethics should not be sacrificed for profit. Additionally, she is classified by the rehab as a fall risk, she currently still has necrotic wounds, major edema/swelling, never received icing treatments throughout the day unless one of us ask for it, they never elevate her foot to increase healing and she and our family have been PATRONIZED and gaslit when we showed concerns and asked questions. Today with all of this going on, they are “releasing” (forcing her out) her to go home when based ON everything she is enduring she should never be released to go home, she needs advanced care. Pros The PT people are great and they have helped her so much and we truly appreciate them. She also had some great caregivers and nurses, thank you all for helping her and advocating for her, we won’t forget it! And to the amazing woman with the most beautiful and brightest personality running the nurses station, you are the best, we are so grateful for you, thank you for making things better always! Please advocate and fight for yourself/your family member. I can’t help but think that if we pushed more, maybe she would not have a dying foot and facing the possibility of amputation.

Fantastic experience: I was inpatient here for 10 days following a stroke. I found the staff to be very conscientious, caring, and responsive. I thought the food was pretty good most days and happy with the alternates available. I saw the complaint on another review about the beds; however the beds are perfect for someone who needs help. They are not so soft that it is hard to get up and perfect for a patient. Now I'm doing outpatient therapy and continue to be very happy with the staff and the service given. I continue to grow stronger and get lots of support from BIR with speech occupational and physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: My mom was in a car accident back in August of 2022. She had a very extensive brain injuries along with other injuries from her accident. Baylor Rehab took amazingly wonderful care of my mom and their occupational, speech, and physical therapy was out of this world. My mom absolutely loves Connie and Devin and Carissa. Not to mention their recreational therapists who were amazing and when my mom could barely talk and use her hands they showed her how to express herself through art. The nursing staff was always so helpful, and attentive. I know we were a stressful family to work with. My mom has five kids, and a boyfriend and her brother and mom and step dad would come all the time and even stay the night on a daily basis and they constantly worked with us and her to make sure she got the care she needed and gave her the opportunity and space to genuinely heal. They not only cared for my mom but helped her care for herself and advocated for her. The nursing staff was wonderful. Of course we had some hiccups here and there as my mom was in inpatient for a month and a half. But Baylor themselves helped my mom in so many ways and they had so many resources. I want to personally thank Meghan and Dr. Lo, Connie, Carissa, Devin. Day Neuro took my mom in after she had a bad experience else where and after slight delay is recovery they took my mom on and her progress since has been astounding. They worked with us and how far away we lived with their ride share program and the team she has is just amazing we love Brittany, Dr. Beck, Isabella, Christian, Suby, Christie, Meredith, Kelsey, and the lovely Fi. And I can’t forget Cam in Day Neuro and Sierra and Richard on the inpatient side. They were so wonderful and helped us really feel at home when we felt so out of place and Dr. Lo’s assistant April and Christina. Y’all will never know how much it really has meant to me and my family all the work you’ve done and the motivation y’all have given my mom to fight such a hard fight. We never knew she would get this far. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Negative experience: Kristen the front desk lady was awfully rude, my family and I our having a conversation in the waiting room of things we dislike about the place, and she rudely interrupted saying we can leave if we don’t like it . That isn’t very personal for a employee especially for Baylor Scott

Fantastic experience: Christy and her team are very knowledgeable about working with amputees like me. I'm a LAKA, Left Above Knee Amputee. They are helping a lot in teaching me how to walk with an AKA amputation. I feel positive I'll be walking soon!

Fantastic experience: This place is simply the best - beautiful facility, courteous administration, highly professional medical team (PTs, OTs, Speech, Neurologist, Internist, nursing staff and techs are all without a single exception amazing). It feels like everyone working at this place aims for nothing less than perfection in what they do; like there is this big team working hard every day with a sole mission to get you back on your feet. So much professionalism, care, transparency, follow-up, resources! Unfortunately it is NOT our first experience with post-stroke rehab, but this place far exceeded our best hopes expectations. Solid five stars!

Fantastic experience: I love the fact that this organization has a ratio of 1:1 therapist to patient. I have been to other therapy groups in the past that were 1:2 or even 1:3 therapist to patients. I highly recommend this group and especially Bethany as a therapist. She helped me stay very focused and progress well with my rehab after full knee replacement.

Fantastic experience: I had my leg amputated and when to BS&W Rehabilitation center. I could not have asked for a better place for my Rehabilitation. The staff was fantastic from the Drs to the cleaning people. The therapists where absolutely incredible. I could could not imagine that there where any people better. Everyone was very positive and encouraging, always happy to help. They explained and taught me how to get around and do everything day things Everyone takes for granted. Honestly I don't know what I would of done if it wasn't for all their help teaching me how to get up with only one leg. Helped me with every aspect of daily living. Figured out how to get in and out of a shower ( customized to my home shower. Meaning, I explained and drew a picture of my shower and they figured out how I would be able to do it at home. ) Physical therapist worked with me by myself and in group. Everyone was so positive and encouraging throughout the stay. Honestly if I had not gone there I don't know what I would of done. They taught me how to do things safety with only one leg. Th Drs where amazing.Helping me with all the medications I needed to be comfortable while struggling to do everything I needed to do. I just can not say enough positive things about all the staff. Everyone was attentive and if needed help with anything they came in minutes to see what I needed and how could they help. The food was very good. Again I can not say enough to express my gratitude to the entire staff. I honestly don't know where I would be without all there help and instructions. I have been in four different Rehabilitation places in the past few years after leaving the hospital trying to save my leg and they do not hold a candle to Baylor Scott and white Rehabilitation center. Negative experience: The therapists here are great, but be very wary of how they handle billing. They will give you a cash out of pocket price and if they find out that your insurance will ALLOW them to charge you more they will charge you the full amount allowed even though they indicate their services cost less. This is absolutely disgusting to exploit people with disabilities this way. If you have a deductible DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. They will absolutely screw your over for every dollar they can get.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Baylor Scott & White Outpatient Rehabilitation to anyone!!! I was extremely pleased with my experience. All the staff were pleasant, welcoming and knowledgeable. My therapist, Laura Mangarelli-Kallenberg, PT, was extremely knowledgeable and explained what exercises we were doing and why. She changed the exercises as I improved and gave me exercises to continue once my therapy sessions were over.

Chris was in constant contact with my surgeon and slowly and safely treated me as per my surgeon prescription! He had a lot of patience, more then I had for myself! Thank you Chris!

Fantastic experience: Since 2012, I have had three separate occasions for outpatient physical therapy at BSWIR. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed. The facility is very clean. Most of all, the physical therapists are very professional; and, I'm impressed that there's no staff turnover. I have had three therapists -- Hima, Chris and Laura. They are outstanding in their therapy and very compassionate. I highly recommend BSWIR. Can't wait to see the new facility which will be opening the end of February.

Fantastic experience: As a stroke victim, there comes many self imposed fears and frustrations. The staff at the Frisco location are patient, kind and encouraging! With their guidance and your effort ; you will see an improvement in your independence! I am so grateful that I chose this location for my rehab therapy.

Fantastic experience: Priya was my physical therapist who carefully evaluated my current physical conditions, range of motion, muscle weakness in my legs and current walking gate. We then assessed my physical therapy goals. I have a rare hereditary disorder called spastic paraplegia. I was elated with Priya’s experience and the action plan she developed to work on range of motion in my legs and issues in my walking gate caused by my disorder. Priya was very kind and gave me details related to my symptoms, how to improve those symptoms, equipment used and the action plan to obtain my goals. Priya had a great “bedside manner”. I highly recommend the Frisco Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation because of their knowledge, professionalism and they way they treat their patients!

He's one of those doctors that I feel truly cares about his patients and their situations. The staff is very friendly and made my check-in and out quick and easy! Fantastic experience: My experiences at BSW Inst for Rehab in Frisco have been really great. Both therapists I've worked with - Laura and Robin - have been professional, caring and super effective. I would recommend BSW and these two wonderful therapists to my family and friends without hesitation.

Fantastic experience: Great care by my nurses and rehab assistants. Physical therapists and Occupational therapists are amazing. I loved the group therapy classes were we would do fun games, workout or arts and crafts. Dr. Adams is extremely helpful and checks on patients daily and stays on top of your care and progress. Nutrition staff was helpful and friendly. Food was very good. If you do not like the selections they offer you can choose from the ala carte. Guest trays cost extra or guests can get food from their cafe. Only complaint is vending machines do not take debit cards...so bring change if you or your guest want something from a vending machine. Housekeeping staff is exceptional and nice. This facility is spotless. My white knit non-slip socks stayed white all day long. Highly recommend Baylor Scott and White rehabilitation facility in Frisco (Legacy) location. I can't say enough about the exceptional care I received during my 14 day live-in rehabilitation.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about BIR Frisco. The doctors, nurses, rehab specialists, and all of the support staff are outstanding. They know their stuff. They are very positive and make working with them easy. My husband just spent ten days there. When he came he couldn’t walk and now he can. They made him laugh as they worked him through his exercises. The rooms are not elaborate but they are totally adequate. A real bonus for me was the food. The cooks in the kitchen really tried hard to create home cooked variety meals. It definitely was not the institutional food that so many places serve. All and all, we had an excellent experience. Fantastic experience: Very modern and clean facilities. I really liked the fact that the equipment is wiped down after each use. The admin staff is is very cheerful and engaging. The physical therapists are very caring and professional. My physical therapist (Laura) had a complete understanding of my therapy needs and goals. She is one of the best I have ever worked with. Fantastic experience: Baylor Scott & White rehab in Frisco off of Legacy is awesome. Laura is my physical therapist and she is absolutely the best. I’ve been dealt a tough diagnosis and she has made me so much better. The staff is friendly and from when you check in to when you leave everyone is kind and has a smile on their face.

Fantastic experience: I was an inpatient and am now an outpatient. Every single therapist and every aspect of the place is first class. I am making steady progress daily after 12 hours of brain surgery on 15JAN19. I strongly recommend BSW Inst. Rehab. Frisco.

Fantastic experience: I stayed here for two weeks after a month stay in Parkland and 13 surgeries due to a horrible motorcycle accident in 2011. The rooms were good, food ok, the staff and Doctors we're great. I was in bad bad shape and they had their work cut out for them. They were able to teach me to use a wheelchair, and to get in and out of bed, shower, all the little things that we take for granted. They really care. They got me ready for the next phase of my journey. I am now walking, working in the yard and around the house. I'm glad I was sent to them. Thanks Guys Richard

Fantastic experience: My husband attended Physical therapy sessions at Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation for four weeks. We both were pleased by the caring and attentive care he received from every member of the staff. From the moment we walked in we were taken care of immediately, ease of registration, friendliness of all of the staff, and then the therapists that we worked with took the time to explain every thing that he would be doing to improve his walking, and also gave him a goal to work toward to while at home. We can't thank them enough for their patience, and expertise during our visits. Thank you to everyone at the Legacy Road , Frisco location for their help, We will recommend your services to others.

Fantastic experience: I have a great deal of experience with hospitals and rehab centers and without exception Baylor Scott and White rehab was the best experience I’ve had. I had the same medical assistant the whole time , Christina, and she is an angel. Patient, kind and responsive. The rehab girls were true professionals yet retained a fun sense of humor. This is the best run facility I’ve encountered. Thank you folks for starting my back surgery recovery off and getting me ahead of the curve.

Positive experience: The staff is wonderful. Everyone from nurses to therapists were kind and courteous and my mother made great progress. While the therapy and nursing were excellent, the food is absolutely terrible. There was not one day that the food was either visually pleasing or appetizing. A facility this size belonging to a hospital system as large as Baylor can surely do better than this. The Black Walnut Cafe just up the street got a lot of business from us!

Negative experience: After I was released from this facility on Nov 20th, 2015, I was refused to speak to any current employee regarding my current physical reaction to my issued prescription medication. I was told that as long as I was previously released, I was no longer considered a patient and could no longer be allowed an entry to their employees. Now why would anyone consider going here in the future?

Negative experience: Our visit to Bayor Rehab came after the patient had two very intense surgeries at a hospital in Plano. Once at Baylor Rehab, we quickly discovered the rooms have no insulation in the walls. They must have really thrown this place up in a hurry with no regard for quality design! As a result, you can hear the person in the next room even when they are speaking in a normal voice. Forget any rest when they have visitors and because it appeared there are no time restrictions for visitors, don't plan an early snooze. The pull out beds are a joke. A four inch mat of coil springs with no padding. After begging four blankets and folding them, they were tolerable. But the mattress was the width of a small person. It was really hard to get a night's sleep. The food is so, so with no creativity. The dietitian did take time to come to the room the first day to go over any undesirable foods or those that aggravated allergies but, despite this, foods were delivered daily that the patient could not eat due to allergies or had indicated they did not like. The patient was experiencing severe pain. When discussed with the staff doctor, he changed the patient from what was referred to as a mild pain reliever to "one of the strongest pain relievers that hospitals will administer" (according to staff nurses and doctors at another hospital). To further complicate the situation, they also applied a "patch" to multiply the effect of the stronger pain reliever. When the doctor on duty (different) found that the patient had been in a stupor for the past three days and the physical therapists were complaining, she promptly called an ambulance, packed up notes about the patient and handed them to the ambulance driver and waved goodbye. When I spoke to the admission personnel at the receiving hospital and to the surgeons office, her arrival was a surprise. The patient then spent the next two days in the receiving hospital for observation (basically "detoxing"). One final note. This hospital does a brisk business in outpatient rehab. I suggest considering a rehab hospital focused on inpatient rehab only.
