UF Health Rehab Hospital

Negative experience: This facility chose only to evaluate the hospital referral based upon black and white print of the patient’s medical documentation. They did not listen nor even consider the health care surrogates input. The hospital liaison and the Director of admissions failed this patient referral. The patient chose Brooks Rehab which provided exceptional care with an admission of 14 days to date discharge and he now is home living his best life. We passed 2 IRF facilities to travel to Brooks and absolutely have no regrets. I encourage this facility to reevaluate how you approach referrals. This patient had acceptable insurance. Poor judgement by your admission staff.

Fantastic experience: My husband came here after a liver transplant at UF Shands. We were nervous and excited about the transition because we had the absolute best care there. Top notch staff. So to say the least we are not disappointed by far. Everyone here from the greeting at the front desk, the nurses and nursing assistants, the cafeteria staff, the cleaning staff, the PT and OT staff, speech therapist and of course the pharmacy and Doctors have been nothing short of amazing. The therapists are outstanding..but I am totally impressed my the nursing and cnas...even the people who clean the rooms are very friendly and I am impressed with the whole staff. I am much better now because of the efforts of every person on this team. This could have been a dismally period, but instead if has been a very good one.

Fantastic experience: After sustaining a spinal cord injury that required extensive surgery, I was discharged to UF Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. I did not know what to expect. During my ten days in the facility, I have gotten to meet many of the the staff and have found them to be kind, compassionate, funny, caring, professional, helpful, and sensitive to my needs as a patient. I am so impressed with the level of care and support here, that I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to my family and friends. They really do go above and beyond for their patients. Negative experience: The m.d. here refuses to give my father the ability to stay close to home and "long term is better." Despite my father going above and beyond with his knee amputation. The outreach is a lie too. They just leave it to their "m.d." and don't even try to advocate for what the patient wants. He wants to be close to home and where his support is. Yet the only other facility because UF health rehab hospital denied him is down in Ocala. STAY AWAY FROM HERE. Administrative doesn't help if you're in transition or homeless. They'd rather stick you in a damn nursing home.

Negative experience: My daughter had brain surgery and went here for rehab. Several staff members pulled her up in the bed hitting her head on the headboard. On one occasion her head hit so hard it thumped very loudly. I was sitting on the chair and heard her head on the headboard. Physical therapist was great but I would strongly suggest retraining your CNA’s and RN’s on taking care of brain surgery Patients. The staff up front was helpful and her drs was good to her and treated her well. Had it not been for the three times that the nursing staff hitting her head on the head board I woukd have given a better rating

Fantastic experience: My son was in a horrible car accident that caused a stroke. He was sent here after shands Kennedy was amazing with him he came in not able to hold himself up right and left walking with the help of a walker. Kennedy encouraged him daily and made him feel like he could make it back to normal. Thank you for all you hard work. This place was a great experience in the darkness of his accident. The whole staff is amazing.

Fantastic experience: Everyone here is so wonderful. I had individual and group therapy which I really enjoyed getting to see other patients improving. I learned so much from the OTs, PTs and SLPs. I received education on therapy techniques, equipment and exercises to help me. I would definitely recommend this facility!!

Positive experience: The therapy is really awesome. The people are great and always supportive. I just wish that the kitchen understood how important good nutrition is to healing. Breakfast is really good, lunch and dinner not. Limited choices and cold food are the norm. If you have a food allergy, you'll find that they find ways to put the allergens on everything. I'm allergic to basil for instance which is usually only on Italian food but here it's even on steamed carrots, chicken soup, rotisserie chicken, etc With no alternatives. I swear they do it on purpose? I know hospital food has never been good but it's a shame that it can't at least be edible..if you have a long stay ahead of you, I hope you have family to bring your lunch and dinner to you.

Fantastic experience: My sister-in-law has brain surgery and came here for rehab. The therapists are amazing. Friendly, dedicated, informative, encouraging and thoughtful. The Drs have been helpful with questions and concerns. The other staff has been very friendly and helpful. Willing to accommodate overnight visitors. And most of all, I have seen great improvements in my family member from this interaction. No place will be perfect 100% of the time, but this place is really good!

The service is top notch, they work hard at getting you back to being able to care for yourself or at least not be totally dependent upon others for care. Fantastic experience: I was at UF Rehab in January for a hip fracture. It’s the only place I would go for rehab. The Rehab assistants always answered the call buttons promptly especially Dee. The PT staff (Josh, Don and especially Kaitlin went above and beyond what I expected. Dani (OT) was especially helpful with daily dressing. At first I was skeptical about PT group but Matt with his sense of humor made it a welcome break. The entire staff from check in to discharge was helpful (Amy and Kara). Kaitlin and Dani came to my room to check my wheelabrator and wish me a speedy recovery upon discharge.

Fantastic experience: My wife had 2 strokes,and was transferred to UF Rehab hospital. Our experience here has been remarkable. The staff has been very helpful and courteous, making our stay comfortable considering how uncertain we were when we arrived. they answered our questions and have helpful helping my wife understand our new situation, and how to deal with this new challenge. I certainly respect and appreciate the doctors, nurses, assistants, and all the employees working at this facility. They have really helped us feel at home. sincerely; John Scott

Fantastic experience: I have nothing but the utmost respect for all the staff here. They are the most caring people I have ever met in a rehab facility. All the Drs and nurses were exceptional but the real stars were the PT and OT staff, Kaitlin and Dani were my all-stars. They taught, pushed, and showed me what I needed to do to get home and be at home safely. Thank you both.

Fantastic experience: This place works wonders, came in and could barely walk and move my arm and hand. One week later I’m walking and moving everything. Their therapists have the best attitudes every single day and are happy to work with you every day. They push you to get better and be better. The atmosphere here is joyous and upbeat and their ready to help you around every corner.

Fantastic experience: I was in the UF Rehab Hospital for 8 days so I got experience many different therapists and schedules. The PT & OT therapists push you but stay aware of your pain level and make sure it isn’t too much. The best part of my stay tho is how responsive the nursing staff is when you hit the call bell. No matter my need, they met it with a smile and were quick. I feel so much better about going home now then when I got out of the UF Hospital. If you ever need in-patient rehab, UFHealth Rehab Hospital is the place to go!!!!

Fantastic experience: They’ve treated my mom really well and have helped her get better from where she was. The nurses are professionals & take time with the patients. PT, OT, & speech therapy staff have been really good with my mom. I don’t know how much they are all paid, but it’s not enough!! The PT area is great all the equipment is updated and relatable to what the patients need to work on. I want to go here if I ever need to!

Negative experience: Sandra King, case manager supervisor, does not return phone calls. My mother was discharged (after 9 days) unable to walk, unable to get herself to the bathroom or stand up from the toilet by herself. She was doing all of this on August 15th when she was discharged from Advent Ocala. She came home on 130 mg. Of blood pressure meds (was admitted on 25 mg.) and her B.P. was 205/105 when I got her home. She was severely constipated, so much so that magnesium citrate didn't work. She had hemorrhoids that were huge and that was the pain that increased her blood pressure. She was so tired and dizzy from the ridiculous dose of blood pressure meds that she couldn't even sit up. Her lower back, L-1 which was cracked and the reason she went in for P.T. in the first place, was all swelled up when i picked her up on August 24th. She said P.T. hurt it doing bed exercises. I told Darren and Naomi at the time. It was not swelled up when she was admitted. Charge nurse Donna and Darren both were helpful and tried hard to help when there were issues, but for the life of me, I don't understand how people that choose this profession can perform with such ignorance and disconcern. The doctors do not return phone calls. Apparently this is a learned trait from their peers. Very disappointed in their apathy. I expected much more based on the amazing reviews. Pay attention people.

Fantastic experience: This is an amazing facility! The physical and occupational staff are professional, positive and energetic. Everyone on the nursing staff was so patient and kind. Even the food was good. You'll work hard but you'll reach your goals.

Fantastic experience: I was admitted towards the end of March 2023 to Shands hospital Rehab. The staff here could not be nicer, nor more caring, and considerate. I have made so much progress with their help, and I am forever Grateful for that. I was unable to walk when I first was admitted and now I find myself walking with a walker On a side note , the food here is delicious and I would highly recommend anyone who needed inpatient rehab therapy to come Here. We come all the way from the Tampa bay area up to Shands, and it is completely worth the distance.

Fantastic experience: In the past couple months I've spent some time at several different inpatient facilities. This is the last stop before going home. It has been far superior to any others I have ever been to. None of the others did anything to get me mobile again. If it weren't for the amazing staff and management, I would still be bedbound and laying in a hospital bed somewhere. Thank you UF Rehab Hospital. I'd love to give a shout out to so many of the staff members, but every single person, no matter what level they were at all had smiles on their faces and a warm greeting.

Fantastic experience: From the time I came in to the time I left, the care was just awesome. I was nervous at first but they treated me with such excellent service. They were patient and so caring. Every person I came in contact with was phenomenal! It was like I already knew them and they knew me. They seemed excited to have me and to care for me!

Fantastic experience: I had triple bypass heart surgery on 8/30/23. Going home today 9/13/23. The UFHealth Rehab Hospital and staff is amazing. It's the best facility I have been in. What ever your need at the time, the staff is there to help. I know without a doubt that I would not be going home today, if I had been placed someplace else. With therapy so soon, I was able to get back on my feet faster. I want to thank everyone for being there and helping me. Thank you for your kindness to your patients.

Fantastic experience: After spending over 5 months in a ICU, our daughter needed Physical Therapy Rehab with OT and speech Therapy. The UF Health Rehab facility was the perfect place for her to transition and prepare herself for getting back to her normal routine life at home. The Staff was truly outstanding as was the level of caring my daughter recieved !!!! The facility and the food provided ( numerous options) were also outstanding. The Therapists were also innovative in the way that they addressed the individual needs to obtain a desired outcome!! As for the the facility itself, it was clean, modern, and well maintained! The end result has been a significant improvement in our daughters overall strength and health!!! We recommend UF Health Rehab to anyone as a pathway to return to normal life.

Fantastic experience: After 2 months in hospital and transfers back and forth to nursing homes, I despaired of ever receiving the care I needed. This hospital and it’s wonderful caring staff proved to be a god send for me. From the housekeepers all the way up to the house supervisors, every single person was caring, compassionate, and encouraging. I do not have enough room to name everyone who cared for me with excellence and professionalism but I’m sure they know who they are. I could not give this rehab hospital any higher than 5 stars but I would if I could.

Fantastic experience: The progress he’s made in just ten days is more than we could have imagined even 30 days from now. The intake team, the nursing staff, the dietary and kitchen staff, PT, OT even the environmental staff have been amazing. The management has done an excellent job in hiring compassionate, skilled and caring professionals!

Fantastic experience: My dad had to be at the UF Rehabilitation Hospital twice, first for 3 weeks and now for 3 weeks also, I have stayed with him everyday and night and all the staff are amazing. Friendly, professionals, and the food is great. I will take the time to say that I would recommend anyone who has to do rehab to do it here. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy all are great. We will miss y'all but we gotta move on.

Fantastic experience: The most amazing Rehab ! From the Nice rooms, Clean, large facility in a whole team for my care and 2 Doctor's came every morning, changed meds when I needed it and really listened. Dr. Patel and Dr. A. were great. My Occupational (Arien), Physical (Ally), Speech, and the Psychologist were ALL great. The nurses and CNA techs were nice and ALWAYS came right in when needed.. So they are really fully staffed. Toni my coordinator took care of my equipment discharge needs & arranged home health. I don't think I could of made it through last 4 weeks without them, honestly. Thank you with all my heart and my families too who you were great with too. If could give them a 10 stars here I would. They helped me walk again. I'm so grateful.

Fantastic experience: My husband was there from 4/25-5/2 and couldn't have been treated better. The rooms were spotless and the staff always used safeguards with gloves and sanitizer. All members of the staff were amazing as well. My husband had recently had a tracheotomy and their Respiratory Therapist Summer Brown was top notch. When we arrived after this new tracheotomy we were scared to go home. Because of the professionalism and teaching abilities of Summer Brown a week later we were feeling confident about handling his new condition on our own. Hats off to UF Rehab. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I was with you from 2/18/22 to 2/22/22. I would like to thank the people I met here. They were the most professional people i have ever encountered. Dr. Lefkowitz , Dr.Dubin, All the nurses aides and the greatest therapy staff I've encountered with Margaret, Isabel,Marcela, Eric, Joshua,Wendy, Neda, Kory, Bertha, Brooke, And another wonderful guy in P T group Matthew. Negative experience: So your nurses here are aloud to make fun of a woman's speech impediment after having brain surgery! To the point she was in tears this place is a joke you need to fix this issue!

Negative experience: I have a friend of mine who’s mother has been staying at this particular facility for rehabilitation after her surgery. I was informed that 2 nurses were very rude to her infront and behind closed doors. They were caught making fun of her (a patient) and did not seem to care. And yes she cried from how cruel they were to her. The names of the nurses are Patrice and Chanda. Those women are abusing their powers to heal others and are hurting others. I’m sure this is not the first patient they have offended during their rounds. Nurses like them should not be allowed to work in this type of field. This review is to be heard and I hope some type of action and review of their performances will be taken into consideration immediately.

Fantastic experience: I was a patient there for about 3 weeks. Everyone was very nice, compassionate but yet professional. This was my first time being in rehab so I was nervous on top of the pain I was in. Dr. Murphy is a great Doctor, so is all the staff!

Positive experience: As a former patient, I will say the care is outstanding. The new facility on Archer Road is twice the size of the old facility, and very nice. The one draw back is the lack of parking. We could not visit a family member because there wasn't a parking space available.

Fantastic experience: After having 2 major strokes and spending 3 weeks in Shands Neuro ICU, my huband came here for short term rehab. The therapists, nurses, case workers, aides and support staff were professional, skilled and a pleasure to work with. My husband was well taken care of from personal hygiene to answering questions about his condition. We appreciate the cleanliness of the environment and the variety of activities they offered for their patients. Most importantly, he was treated with respect and dignity. By the end of his 3 week stay, he had made so much progress he was sent home with minimal assistance. I would highly recommend UF Health Shands Rehab Hospital. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I am an amputee and needed a rehab place other than a regular hospital. Thank God for the Shands Rehab Hospital. Every physical therapist gave me more care than I had hoped for and built my confidence level well above what I thought was possible considering my first thoughts as an amputee. Fantastic experience: Formerly called Shands Vista, this is a crisis stabilization hospital not a long term care facility. The north and east wings are psych units, and the south wing is for substance abuse. I've been on both psych wings, and the care I've received each time, frankly, saved my life. I suffer bouts of clinical depression and become suicidal, as a result. The psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses and support staff are extremely well-educated and experienced with the type of patients who wind up there. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't care about the patients. The vast majority of nurses go the extra mile and will do anything within reason to help you, including advocating for you with your doctors. I've had nothing but the best of care and being cared about. There are also a variety of meaningful activity groups run by professionals that are designed to help you get better. I feel very fortunate to have a place of Vista's caliber available to me when needed.

Negative experience: The psychiatrist is narcissistic and abusive. I went in there with PSTD from a sexual trauma and now I have even more flashbacks about that AND my stay at Vista.

Negative experience: I would like to say that I have never left a review in my 38 years. This however deserves a review. I entered Vista in August by my on free will for major depression. This is something I have battled for 18 years. I entered late on a Friday evening so I didn't see a Dr. At 8:00 am on Saturday morning Dr Khurshid entered my room and asked "what do you want from me"? I was taken aback as I had never been talked to like this by a Healthcare "professional". I said I would like for you to help me get better. He asked what meds I had been on. After listing them, there are many, he looked at me and said there is nothing I can do to help you. I have been in psychiatric hospitals 6 times in 18 years. No one has ever treated me so poorly or left me feeling so hopeless. He is not sympathetic or caring. As far as I'm concerned he is in the wrong line of work. I ask wasn't there something he could do to help me? He replied that he supposed that he could add a secondary antidepressant and see if that would help. I said I was willing to try that. He then said what do you want me to put you on? I stammered and replied that he was the professional not me. He said pick something that you've been on in the past. Since I haven't changed meds in years I paused to think. He said pick one, I don't care what it is just pick something. When I failed to answer he began to leave my room and said when you decide what you want get with me. Knowing this was a weekend and "getting" with him wasn't quite that simple I blurted out something I had been on about 12 years ago. He said I'll right for it. I immediately asked for the paperwork to be discharged since I was a self admit. The nurse questioned my reasons for leaving. After explaining to her that I didn't have a Dr that was willing to help she became very hostile towards me. My husband witnessed this at visitation a couple of hours later. He tried to talk to the nurse who then chewed him out. I had to wait another 24 hrs before they would sign my release. That was after Dr Khurshid told me he was going to baker act me. I ask for what? He replied that I had told him that I wanted to kill myself (not true). We then had an argument because the only thing I had said to him was that I had never had a psych Dr make me feel as hopeless as he had. He ended up discharging me but made me sign out AMA so that my insurance wouldn't cover the bill. Beware of Dr Khurshid and if you have an option other than Vista I highly recommend you use it.

Negative experience: Nursing staff just sits on their asses on Facebook or Craigslist couldn't care less about a patient's needs. I witnessed them harass several patient's to the point of laughing at them . Food is a whole other issue. Three days impatient care and never did I have a food tray of my own. They said the Dr didn't input my diet into the computer.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible. If I could give it zero stars then I would. I was with the under 18 patients after being Baker Acted and my experience with the staff was awful. They were rude, manipulative, and honestly did not seem to care about our overall well-being. A few of the nurses were alright, but the psychiatrists, therapists, and the teacher (Ms. Jane) spent their time insulting us and telling us to entirely change who we are. We were unstable children and they treated us like idiotic adults. The other patients were the only good thing about my 6 day stay (voluntary, but only because they threatened to Baker Act me again if I didn't stay longer voluntarily) but the contact with the other kids and teenagers was unnecessarily limited. The whole thing was a terrifying experience and I refuse to go back there again after going by choice and being faced with that.

Negative experience: I was just held against my will as a "voluntary" patient and when I tried to check out, I was told by the psychiatrist that I wasn't really voluntary and that if I tried to sign myself out, he would make sure I got Baker Acted and would spend even more days, When I complained that my civil rights were being violated and that I hadn't gotten due process, he told me that I would get due process alright, but then it would extend my stay until Tuesday when the judge came to the facility. Since this was a Friday, my third day, he coerced me into staying over the weekend out of fear of being forced to stay even longer due to his ability to hold me for no reason. I was brought into the facility because I was complaining to the patient advocate at UF because of their failure to follow through on diagnosis, treatment and pain relief. I was trying to tell he how much it hurt and I must have said something like, it hurts so much sometimes you want to die. That is simply my conjecture because I have never a transcript of what I said that got me there.Dr. Khurshid refused to acknowledge my distress because my dogs were at home an I wasn't sure who was taking care of them. He told me I was crying because I didn't get what I wanted, which was to go home,. He also created a virtually untenable situation for me, adding to my distress, saying I would have to get a relative to come from California or my wife to come back from Uruguay since I didn't know very many people in Gainesville. Since I already felt bullied and intimidated by this man, I became increasing sad and tearful, which he interpreted as my "mental illness." Since I am a recently retired teacher and a functioning member of the community, I see absolutely no reasons for him to set these conditions and it raised my level of fear completely. I also have to say that I saw a young college student put on Abilify, which is one of the drugs that has caused my diagnosed condition of tardive dyskenisia. It has caused part of my Burning Mouth Syndrome, which the University of Florida diagnosed but failed to treat. I saw five doctors there and none would give me ANYTHING for pain, which was why I called the patient advocate and it was her secretary who caused 3 police cars to come to my door. They have still not responded to my complaint and to add injury to insult had me virtually incarcerated for six days. I do not believe that Dr. Khurshid should be dealing with sensitive and traumatized patients. Instead of taking a therapeutic approach he resorts to bullying and intimidation. Really, there are thousands of ways to tell a person they aren't going home in a kind and therapeutic way. Why resort to these tactics?
