Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation: Reviews

Fantastic experience: A breath of fresh air. My mom has been at Ashford Hall for nearly 8 months. When she arrived, she was in very bad shape with injuries that required constant medical treatment and was mentally not present. Throughout the eight months this team's recommendations, physical therapy and overall support have been stellar. My mom has now transitioned to assisted care and repeatedly tells me how happy she is. Thank you.

Negative experience: The last 6 weeks has been downright ridiculous. Turnover rate is at the all time high. When my father pushes the call button it has taken them 45 mins to 2 hours for someone to come to the room. They forgot to give my father his meds, I had to call in. New staff told him he needed to schedule an appt for a shower. POOR Service, I met with the new director who asked for a week to get things corrected. TBC

Negative experience: Initially, management and ownership was great. However, through time, it was clear that if you are not on favored side of ownership/management, all concerns get dismissed or not taken seriously. Filed a grievance on employee per their policy but upper management never addressed concerns. I also reported certain employees that falsified medical records, inappropriate billing, patients harm that was never addressed because the employees involved were favored by ownership and upper management.

Fantastic experience: I love visiting my brother at Ashford! The staff is so caring and hard working and helpful. They appreciate any small thing I do, and are very attentive to my brothers’ needs and any questions I might have. Every single person that I’ve met here goes above and beyond and actually cares about the patients. When my brother was having a lot of challenges, the Management Team did soooo much to create a good and healthy resolution. I could not be happier with every single person who cares for my brother here, enriching his life! So much kindness!

Thank you, Nancy! We appreciate your kind words and will pass them along to our Team!

Fantastic experience: I am a piano teacher in the area, my studio of young students recently hosted a holiday piano recital at this facility for some of the residents. I was very appreciative of the staff and the Activities Director, Mrs. Peaches for allowing us to volunteer our time and service. Both the staff and the residents were a wonderful audience for the children, it was very rewarding to see the engagement and the enthusiasm from the residents especially. I cannot speak to the long term care status of the residents, but I will say that the facility seemed very clean and the staff were all very friendly. We look forward to volunteering there in the future!

Negative experience: Another weekend of poor staffing and inept care at Ashford Hall. Repeated calls to Nurse Station 1 went unanswered and no option to leave a voicemail. After a day of working and training, I get here to learn my mother has been in bed all day.

Negative experience: The administration department has very poor customer service. All lack on basic resident care and aren't very knowledgeable at all. Today I've called the facility several with no answer. I called Cindy the Director of Nursing finally answers, I ask for Brenda Guevara, LNFA or Samantha Espinoza-Robinson, Business Office Manager. I was placed on hold for 46 mins and 20 secs and then they hung up on me. I called back no answer. They will not answer or speak to me since I'm requesting my father's records. The receptionist Beadie finally answers who wa very pleasant. She was unable to reach Brenda Guevara via cellular phone. In person visits are person if ever trying to get information regarding your living or deceased loved one.

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Renetta, We're very sorry about your experience today. Our facility is currently tied up with our multi-day Annual State Survey, which entails multiple state surveyors reviewing and examining all aspects of our facility, from resident care, life safety issues, and overall functionality. Brenda, and the rest of our team, is always very responsive to family's and resident's needs and may not be immediately available while the state surveyors are in the building. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any lapse in customer service during this survey process. We will make sure that someone reaches back out to you shortly to attend to your needs. Thank you! Ashford Hall

Fantastic experience: I was checking on my students and instructor. Much has changed at Ashford Hall since I visited four or five years ago.it really looks nice. The fish are not as entertaining as the birds were years ago. Next time I come, hopefully, I will visit the locked unit and see and hear the birds.

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Thank you, Helen. We have really worked hard these past few years to improve both the appearance and care at Ashford Hall. We're very proud of our progress and look forward to continued improvements.

Negative experience: Fired after breaking the news to the director of health that boasted about her credentials as a means of arguing that she was in fact "obese" According to a BMI calculator a person that is 5′5 and 200lbs has a BMI of 33.3 which is considered “obese”. It is not my fault you are fat and can't accept it, maybe if you spent less time arguing with people in your office and more time on the treadmill you could actually have some credibility to your degree you keep boasting about

Fantastic experience: I had the opportunity to sit for one of the residents here and was blown away by how amazing all the workers are here. Irene, one of the nurses on the floor where I was stationed was absolutely amazing. She always made sure all the residents were properly cared for and loved on with a smile and positive attitude always. Ty, another one of the nurses always made sure protocol was being followed and was always on top of things. Abby, another one of the nurses always had a vibrant personality and was always very attentive with all of her patients. Nya, the front desk nurse always kept a smile on her face and a queen at multitasking, she is young but very skilled at her job. Iris, one of the CNA's always came in on time to make sure the residents were showered and if they couldn't she would give them the best bed bath ever. Its a hard job and she did it with grace. Melanie, another CNA is also a very hard worker. She always went behind who ever didn't complete task and made sure it was done. Brenda & Rikki also are super amazing! They make sure that all the residents are properly cared for and always due their due diligence to make sure they hire the best staff. The Maintence man , I didn't catch his name but he always made sure resident safety was a top priority, he's checking the cameras and doing drills to ensure top safety for all residents and that is amazing!!! I definitely recommend this place! -Sincerely Sheri :)

Negative experience: ***FAMILIES BEWARE*** In October 2019 my mother had a stroke that almost killed her, Thankful she recovered for the most part, she has aphasia and is not the same, and once home my father cared for her with the help of his sister for a couple month until my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung disease in 02/2020 and basically told he was going to die!! All of this happened to our family in the matter of months, to say our family was on the edge is an understatement. The Hospital recommended hospice care and that going into a nursing facility might be best. Since my sister and I both work full time jobs and could not take care of them full time, after discussing with my father we all agreed a nursing facility would be best, as he would need much more help caring for my mother and his sister was about to have back surgery and wouldn't be home any longer to help. On the recommendation of the hospital, I went to check out Ashford Hall after speaking with the Director Brenda about the requirements and what my next steps would be, we moved my mother in first and then my dad was released to Ashford Hall a couple days later. Everything seems to be great, the Nursing and CNA staff seemed to be on the ball and appeared to be taking great care of my parents. My parents were admitted “Medicaid Pending '' on 02/2020, and I was told we do not pay anything as once approved Medicaid would back pay them (They now claim I made this part up, but I know another family who had their mother admitted also as “Medicaid Pending” who were also told not to pay anything). Ashford Hall filled out the paperwork for the Medicaid, and I provided all the necessary documents required. Months go by, I haven’t paid a penny and I am there all the time, even when Covid hit, I was at the window of my parent’s room and spoke to all the staff, Nurses, CNA, and Administration. My father passed away after being at Ashford Hall for 2 months, leaving just my mother on 04/16/2020. Still, we are under the impression all is well, they move my mother to another room, where we have to request a gate code to access her window which is now behind a fence. July of 2020 comes, she is denied Medicaid due to the fact they do not complete the paperwork correctly and do not include their house, claiming they were told they did not own a house, the start of the lies. Even though mortgage statements were sent to be included in the paperwork sent to Medicaid. At the end of July 2020, I get a call now claiming we owe thousands of dollars and that if we don’t pay, they are kicking my mother out. Also claiming that I was never told not to pay anything that I should have been giving them all but $60 of their SS check each month, even though they have a house, utilities and car payment to pay, so of course all of their money is gone on bills, not to mention my father’s checks stopped in April of 2020 so my mother’s check is now been covering all their bills alone, and they were paycheck to paycheck living. They tell me in order to keep my mother they will need all the money she has in her account and that I will need to bring proof her account is at $0.00 after payment. I take all the money she has and I ask them why has no one said anything to me about money being due, they claim they have been mailing statements, to where I have no idea because I have never received anything. I removed my mother shortly thereafter due to their lies and back peddling. My parents used their money to pay for their home based on the information given to us at the time they were admitted. Had they been upfront with me from the beginning we would have done things differently and taken over their house sooner so they could have paid the facility. Our intentions were always to be honest and to do what was right, not to try and get out of paying for care provided. Had Ashford Hall only extended the same courtesy to us we would not be in this situation. Cherry on Top….They wait 2 years and are now suing me. UPDATE- They wanted me to sign a Gag order, what does that tell you!!

Fantastic experience: This place is a blessing for our family. My father was a different facilities who just didn’t provide the basic necessities. At Ashford, the facility is clean, the nurses are on top of my dad’s needs. They have activities and honestly everyone is nice and helpful which is very refreshing. I feel at peace knowing my father is at a facility that’s on top of things.

Positive experience: We needed to place my mom in a nursing home 6 years ago. We visited many locations and we came across many places that were dirty and we came across staff that was not very welcoming even during our tours. My mom needed to get on Medicaid and most places would not accept it or would not accept her until it was approved. Ashford Hall was the 2nd location we visited in our 2 day search and the one we selected. My mom has Alzheimer's so she was in a secured area which was good and the nurses spoke Spanish. My mom spoke and understood English but had regressed to Spanish only with the disease. They helped us through getting her room ready, telling us what to expect and helped us with the transition. The admissions office helped me complete her Medicaid application and accepted her while it was pending. I paid the services with her social security check and no other out of pocket expenses until her Medicaid could take care of it. I will not lie and say it never smells in there because when you have a building full of adults needing to be changed its impossible to avoid some odor so there are some times after meals that there is an unpleasant smell until they are all changed but they are cared for it does not last long. They are responsive with any calls and inform me of how she is doing. We have visitors regularly so there are many eyes in there to inform me of anything that may concern them but it has been a good experience. She did fall last year out of her chair with really upset me but she would have a habit of leaning forward in her chair. They contacted me, had her checked out at the hospital and ordered her a wheel chair that reclined so that it would not happen again. I had even asked for them to strap her in but they informed me that its against the laws to do that even if for her safety which I appreciate the information. The only reason I did not give the last star is because my standard of clean is very high. I am very OCD about cleaning and I know its impossible for them to keep the facility the way I would keep my house or her room when she lived with me but its not dirty, its just not as clean as I prefer. Again nothing bad about it. That is just based on my own obsession with clean. The janitorial staff and maintenance does a good job but its my mom and I would love perfection which is not possible anywhere. They recently got a new Director and she is very responsive and helpful. She gave me her cell number in case I ever needed it which is great. Putting your loved ones in a facility is not an easy decision at all and I cried about it for days but Ashford Hall is the right place for my mom and our family.

Fantastic experience: I have been an employee of Ashford hall for a little over two years now and I have seen tremendous growth throughout the facility. When you come into the facility your greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome! Staff always go above and beyond for our residents here at Ashford hall. Residents enjoy the activities provided especially when it’s something they have expressed they would like to do such as lunch outings, Walmart outings, and of course the residents favorite BINGO and much much more!! Yes there is always room for growth and I’m proud to say that we are headed in the right direction with the amazing team we have built thus far!

Fantastic experience: I have been an employee of Ashford Hall for 27 years as a CNA. I love the facility and the residents! The owners have been more than wonderful to me and the residents in my time here and I have been very happy while working here! Everyone here is like family to me, the residents and fellow employees. I would recommend the care at Ashford Hal 100%!

Malisa Draper 6 years ago

Negative experience: Horrible place rude nurses and cna's. Bugs roaches, nat's, mice horrible food for resident's never enough staff high turnover management terrible they don't pay you what they owe you residents rooms are nasty residents stay wet and don't get changed residents leave out the building not safe cna's have over 20 residents a piece not safe call lights go off sometimes over 45 minutes Stephanie said I would get my pay 11/21 nothing as of yet I contacted the administration a joke Stephanie is a lyer she never do what she says this place need 0 stars

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Ms. Malisa Draper, as a disgruntled former employee we understand that you are looking to tarnish Ashford Hall as much as possible by writing a public review full of false accusations. Let’s take a look at the items you brought up: • Rude nurses and CNAs, never enough staff; We staff according to the needs of our residents. There are times when we have staff call in or no show their shifts (like you did) but we call our other employees to get those shifts filled in a timely manner. We receive many compliments on the care that our nursing staff give and tend only to hear about “rude” nurses when disgruntled staff get an earful from their peers about not pulling their weight. • Don’t get paid what you are owed; You were paid everything that you were owed. You did call and complain after you quit (with no notice) that you were not paid for the online trainings you completed but never reported, so we investigated those trainings and paid you what you were due. • Cleanliness of the building; We completed our annual survey just over 1 month ago at the end of October and received praise from the state surveyors for how good the building looked and how well the residents were taken care of. If there ever is an issue with the cleanliness of the building it is addressed immediately. • “Horrible” food; We have a highly trained executive chef and a tenured dietary staff with copious amounts of experience. We receive compliments about the quality and taste of our food on a regular basis. We also listen to our resident’s suggestions for menu changes and requests. We expect that if our employees ever have concerns about the building or the care given to our residents that they report it and then become part of the solution. You did neither of these. You said nothing while you worked here and then only made things worse by no-showing shifts and then quitting with no notice. We are dedicated to our residents and their care and only want to employ those that share that same mindset. It is for the best that you are no longer an employee of Ashford Hall.

Kevin Ryan 6 years ago

Negative experience: This place is a horror show. They have clients in wheelchairs facing the wall, terrible food. Bathrooms are disgusting. If you leave they will illegally hold your medication. NEVER put a loved one here!! I would give them a worse rating if possible. The management and nurses are all rude Africans. AVOID at all costs.

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Mr. Ryan, you were at Ashford Hall for 3 days and then left against medical advice. When you tried returning and were told we could no longer attend to you, you created a scene big enough to warrant us calling the police to have you escorted off the property for the safety of our other residents. There was no medication illegally withheld, you made the decision to leave.

Monique W 6 years ago

Negative experience: They do keep the place clean but the nurses are rude a d out of the. You might find two who really care. Always understaffed and they don't appreciate the cna's . I was promised a sign on bonus within 3 months never received it. Stephanie in the office is lazy and a liar!

Negative experience: My grandfather, Lee Matthews has had an awful week there. First they did not provide the vitamins, or the extra pillow needed for elevating his swollen lower extremities. Then, on Sunday, his clothes were removed from his room, including a jacket that contained his wallet and checkbook. After many calls to Ashford, with none returned, we reported the theft to the Irving police. Hopefully they will follow up. It is Monday after 1pm and no one from Ashford has talked with Lee Matthews about where are his clothes and his wallet and checkbook. My aunt called several times last night and again this morning and no one has returned a call, or addressed situation with Lee Matthews, who is still residing in your facility.

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Ms. Hussman, I’m sorry your family has not had a good experience thus far. We have spoken with your aunt and are working with her to resolve all your concerns. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you and your family.

Fantastic experience: My experience with Ashford Hall has been very positive. They have remained patient and caring and accepted BOTH my mother and father-in-law on a Medicaid-pending status. It's been almost 5 months and we are still in process of approval. The facility is neat and clean. The staff is caring. My father-in-law's favorite is Tina (I believe)...although he calls her Michelle! If you are not familiar with nursing homes at all you may be in for a shock at first. Many of the patients are truly in need of monitoring and care, especially on the secured wing (for folks who have memory issues or wander). The staff does a very good job with even difficult or abusive patients. I have witnessed this first hand. I have also dropped by for visits on the weekends, weekdays, mornings, afternoons, evening....all times. They are consistent in care. Make no mistake, caring for the folks here is difficult work and it takes a patient and strong personality to do this long term. If you stop by, remember to thank the staff for looking after your loved ones!

Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation

Mrs. Heitzman, Thank you for your kind words. We love what we do and the people we care for! On behalf of all our staff, thank you recognizing their heart felt efforts. Your Ashford Hall Family

Fantastic experience: Visited in July, 2016. The place was clean, although it appeared understaffed. It did not smell like urine like some nursing homes I have been in. I was pleased to see a man giving a slide presentation about art in a common room since there are studies that this can aid against dementia.

Jattona Thornton 9 years ago

Negative experience: Bad place they broke my mother leg.

Victoria Underwood 9 years ago

Negative experience: Disgusting care of my Mother. She was molested while there in the Alzheimers Unit and got bedsores and way over drugged. The nurse is EXTREMELY rude and hung up on me several times while trying to find out how my Mom was. Good luck getting anyone to answer the phone.

Ric Nelson 10 years ago

Negative experience: If the staff would get off their cell phones the residents would get a lot more care. Management is aware if this, but alas not much is done about it.

Janice Bennett 10 years ago

Negative experience: my Mom was there in 1993 to 1994 - not a good place - seems not any better

Brandon Wheeler 10 years ago

Negative experience: Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, so called care. Did not bathe patient for many many days, did not even comb hair, this lady was unable to get up so they would set her meal tray on the sink and leave and did not even attempt to put it within reach. PT dept was pretty good, the patient care aides were extremely RUDE even to visitors and in one instance mean to another patient, did not check on patients for hours. Got bed sores with none to very minimal treatment, the same dressing would be there for days, I know because I marked them. The room was a filthy mess. Bed sheets dirty and unmade every time I was there (with the same sheets) All I can say if you care about your family AVOID this place like the Plague..........
