Experiencia negativa: My mom is at Northwood and I recently visited her and she needed to be changed and cleaned up and the first nurse we asked had a terrible attitude and she said I can't stay here all day, that's the worst thing to say to the person you are supposed to be taking care of, I was so angry when she had the nerve to say that, she has no patience for the elderly people she needs to go work somewhere else, you get paid to deal with these elderly people if you dont want to do your job go elsewhere, and I will be reporting this person, you know who you are and you should be ashamed of yourself

Experiencia negativa: I entertained at Northwood in 2023 - it took 9 months before I was paid. I entertained again in Aug 2024 and it’s now Feb 2025 and after numerous mailing of invoices and phone calls I still haven’t received payment. What’s going on at Northwood

Experiencia negativa: If you really care about your loved one, do not bring them to Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center! My mother was sent from Winchester Hospital by Case Worker Barbara Derr. We were told they had a bed that provided one on one care. As we entered Northwood we were hit with a nauseating smell of urine. They brought us to my mother's room; I went to put my mother’s belongings away and the drawers all had someone else’s belongings in them. After 20 minutes with no one coming in, I rang the bell. An aide came in and I asked if maybe my mother was in the wrong bed because the drawers had stuff in them, the aide rolled her eyes at me! And said, “I don't know, I’m only an aide I will get the nurse for you.” The nurse finally comes in 20-30 minutes after that. The she never addressed my mother she just asked if I was the proxy and said she needed a signature. I mentioned that my mother needs a walker and she said she cannot have one until PT evaluates her on Monday. We got there Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at 7:00 pm. I asked how she would get to the bathroom without a walker, and asked about her sitter, she told me they do not do one on ones. I explained that my mother needs a one on one as she is impulsive, and she will get out of bed all night and without a walker she will for sure fall. She just kept reiterating that they do not offer one on one. We decided that it was best if she went back to Winchester. After more back and forth and another hour of being ignored (Yes bell was going off for nearly an hour) I was told that because I didn’t sign the consent to care they do not have to answer the bell?? The people that work on the floor that my mother was supposed to be admitted to have an It’s not my job attitude. They had zero empathy for the situation my family was put in and offered no help. Their ambulance service doesn’t go to Winchester. The nurse told me that and left and never came back until I yelled that no one would help us. The staff on this floor never came in while the bell was going off for almost one hour they walked by and looked in then quickly looked away. Not one person came in to help my mother who was clearly having a hard time. Keep your loved ones away from this facility!

Experiencia negativa: My grandmother was here for two weeks after she had a heart attack. The facility isn’t the best in the first place. Going in, I had found medication just laying in the ground next to her bed. Nobody could tell me if she missed meds. She was diabetic as well and one time, she was so lethargic and loopy when I went in. She couldn’t even register that I was there. I asked the nurse to check on her and her blood sugar was dangerously low. They gave her something to get her sugar levels up and after a bit, she was cognitive and was happy to see me. How do you guys get away with how much you neglect patients? If I hadn’t noticed and said something, how long would it have taken for her blood sugar to be checked and treated? I will never recommend this facility to anyone and will actively mention to stay clear from it. Never mind the fact that I had to repeatedly call to get someone I could pay the bill with. I never should’ve paid it. Do better. You’re responsible for people’s lives and loved ones. (My grandmother also mentioned being threatened by one of the nurses when she was trying to tell them she was scared)

Experiencia fantástica: My family member gets such good care at Northwood. There are so many caring staff members on B wing that brighten up her day and make her smile. Kimmy, Martha and Shelby on first shift and Edilma on second shift, especially, give her wonderful personal care and extra love and attention. Lots of other employees at the facility also share a wave, a greeting, a smile or a hug when they are going by her room when performing their daily work duties. It really makes a difference!

Experiencia fantástica: I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the wonderful , caring , and compassionate staff of Northwood Rehab and Healthcare facility. My mom passed away there today at the age of 92. Special thanks to her nurses , Lisa and Eve for the knowledge , care, and compassion they provided to my mom . A very special thank you to Martha, my mom's aide, who not only provided excellent care and compassion to mom but incredible compassion to my dad who is 92 and has been married to the love of his life for almost 70 years. She has most certainly chosen the right profession and we will be eternally grateful for everything she did for mom and dad and our family . Also must mention the great care that she received on the first floor from the nurses, aides, OT, PT, dietitians , Social Workers, and Speech therapy. Special thanks to Tara for all the calls to keep me updated on my mom's progress.Thanks so much for all your help . Keep up the great work Northwood , our elderly population needs you . Thank you Nancy Veiga for accepting my mom into this wonderful place . If I have forgotten any names , my sincere apologies , just know you are a great team !! Experiencia negativa: The location looks like it's falling apart, the nurses didn't help our nana go to bathroom. They ended up having us clean her up after using the toilet instead of the nurse. Such ashamed that those poor patient's insurances are paying for those workers to not do their job.This place needs to shut down please don't go there poor help.

Experiencia fantástica: I was so warmly welcomed by all the employees. I enjoyed my stay here after surgery on my spine. I absolutely loved it and everyone there! I've stayed at another Rehab, their name beginning with the letters D'Yo twice and hated every moment I was there. So, I am so pleased that I found Northwood and the best employees ever.

Este trabalho do ambassador e muito importante podemos vêlo e se comunicar todos os dias. Estou muito feliz!!! Experiencia fantástica: Thank you to Nadia, the Portuguese Ambassador and the girls that helped with the Portuguese festival. My mother is doing rehab there and we attended the festival. She speaks Portuguese so the language barrier has been difficult for her. Nadia has been a godsend for her and other Portuguese speaking residents. It was nice to see everyone enjoying the food and music. I hope they continue to do activities like this because it was nice to see my mother smiling and happy

Experiencia fantástica: My cousin is a patient living in your facility. I live far away and had lost touch with him for many years. I was recently reconnected through the Ambassador program. Nadia has been instrumental in caring for my cousin and facilitating our reunion. I have been able to see and speak to my cousin through a social media platform, with Nadia's assistance. She is kind, caring, and takes excellent care of my cousin's needs. He is looking well cared for and healthy. I hope this program continues and is able to help more families in the future. Much appreciation from me and my family!

Experiencia fantástica: My father had a stroke in August and is now under the care of Northwood after leaving Encompass. My family is thankful for the ambassador program as my father does not speak English, this program has made our lives easier and bearable as we are not able to visit. I can see how happy my father is when he is with Nadia (one of the Portuguese ambassadors), the pictures we have been receiving along with the daily face time visits cannot be put into words. My family is truly touched, it has made such a big difference in our lives. Good job for thinking outside the box and find a way to serve the patients with whom the primary language is Portuguese, making them feel at ease, comfortable. They are very positive, caring and happy ambassadors, which is great for the well-being of the permanent residents and those who are in recovery, you can tell they really love what they do and that makes such a big difference. I know that everyone is doing the best job possible, I chose the facility simply because of the reputation of its PT staff, having an ambassador program is a bonus. It does set the facility apart especially during these difficult times. It would be great if the facility had more ambassadors that could work on weekends as well. To be honest it is one of the best things I have encountered and something all facilities should implement, we are truly great-full The family of Osvaldo Espinola

Experiencia fantástica: Estou neste lugar a uma semana, quero dizer que tenho passado algumas dificuldades porque sou portuguesa e não falo inglês, tenho necessidade de ser compreendida por alguém que fale minha língua! Aqui tenho uma Ambassador Nádia que me auxilia muito nos dias de semana, mais preciso me sentir protegida e auxiliada nos fins de semana também, eu estou grata pela atenção e respeito que a Ambassador Nádia tem por mim e outros aqui! Mas preciso muito que todos tenham atenção e muito respeito eu tenho visto que tem muito a melhorar nesse local uma das principais queixas e alguém que fale minha língua e trabalho com mais amor ao próximo. Experiencia positiva: I am not gonna lie I do have some reservations about Northwood. Both my parents were there we never really had issues with the care that my mom receives but we did with my dad. We unfortunately lost him back in April from Covid. As everyone can imagine I was anxious and nervous because I could not go and see my mom because of the pandemic especially since she does not speak the English language, how would I know if she was eating, taking her meds and being changed properly. It was a very stressful time for myself and siblings. Then it was like my dad sent us an Angel to look out for her. The best decision that Northwood did was to bring on the Ambassadors to their facility. Nadia has a life saver not only for us but for my mom. She takes care of her like if she was her own mother. When she walks in the room my mom smiles at her like if it were one of her own kids. Because of Nadia I get to talk to my mother on a daily basis via video chats. I am able to see for myself that she is doing good and I am able to ask her if she is eating or if she needs anything. This has made it a little easier not only for myself but I know for all the other family members as well. It's one thing when you can speak the language but it's very different when you can't tell some what you need. I can not thank Nadia for every thing she and her co-workers like her are doing for the residents of Northwood. I know that as long as she is there that my mom is in good hands. To all the nurses and CNA's thank you for all you do as well. I do have one recommendation to the director at Northwood. I really wish that you had the Ambassadors there on the weekend. It's a little more difficult to talk to anyone on the weekends and I understand they are busy taking care of the residents, that's why I feel if they were there it could take that added stress away from them. I don't know if Nadia will see this review or not but if she does, thank you so much for everything you do. My family and I appreciate you so much. ❤

Experiencia fantástica: Nadiya my grandmothers hospice caretaker is awesome, she cares for my grandmother as if it is her own. She’s loving, caring and always calls my family to do FaceTime calls to speak to my grandmother. I can’t thank her enough and her girls for helping in such a time of need!

Experiencia fantástica: I spent 8 days in Northwood rehab and although my first night was rough, the director of admissions Nancy made me comfortable and assured me that my stay would be better and it was. The care from all the nursing staff including Pt was very kind and caring. I would definitely recommend this rehab if you needed short.

Experiencia fantástica: When we brought my dad George into Northwood in August of 2017, I didn't think he would be alive much longer. Two and a half years later, at age 86, the end is no where in sight! He is physically stronger than he has been in the last several years. I attribute this to the outstanding physical therapy staff. My dad has stayed at different senior care facilities in Lowell for short stints after hospital stays and says that Northwood, by far, is the best. He said that it begins with the support staff. The cleanliness, food, physical therapy, nurse staff, activity staff, and Nurse's aids are all excellent. I personally talk to most of these groups periodically and they are all pleasant to work with. The opportunities for various activities, exercising, and outdoor trips are available. It is up to the resident to take advantage of these options. Both my and my dad strongly recommend this facility for long term health care.

Experiencia fantástica: I am extremely happy and satisfied with the care that my aunt has received since arriving at Northwood Rehab in May of 2019. She is treated with both caring hands and hearts which has helped to make an easy transition from home to rehab/long term care at the age of 95. They treat her like family instead of just as a patient. I witness, on my multiple weekly visits, the excellent care she receives from her nurses, nursing aids and therapists. She is also greeted and helped daily by so many other staff members including the dining room staff to the wonderful ladies who run all the outings and activities to housekeeping and laundry and even to the dynamic duo in maintenance. From the moment I walk in the door I am greeted (often by name) by the friendly staff at the desk as well as many other employees during my frequent visits. I have had so many positive interactions there with all the departments and people I have dealt with during the past 8 months I know that I made the right decision in choosing Northwood.

Experiencia positiva: The staff never get back to you when you call. There needs to be more activities for the residents so they are not sitting around doung nothing.

Experiencia negativa: so frustrated!!!! tried for 3 days to contact my grandmother. transferred several times when i call(her room phone rings about 19-20 times then hangs up!) fiNALLY A STAFF MEMBER ANSWERS THE PHONE , tells me "she's not here" then tells me to hold on.leaves me on hold 27 minutes. someone picked up the line then hung up. i'm 4.5 hours away. just don't understand how staff can do this.

Experiencia negativa: Not the place you want a loved one. There is a mixture of horrible and fantastic staff. I almost have to say it's ok because of the good staff who really care about the residents, but I have seen staff ignore residents and laugh about it. Not sure how this goes on in a nursing home but I'm disappointed.
