Experiencia fantástica: I will recommend Waterside to anyone that is looking for skilled and/ or long term care for their love ones. My father is currently being cared for at the center. The care is first class. I was a bit worried at first because I didn't know anything about the facility and their business model, as to whether my father will be taking care of. To my surprise, the staff is insanely professional and care very, very much for their patients. The Administrator, DON, and the Unit Manager are outstanding which reminds me of my military days... all hands on deck mentality. What's unique about my experience at Waterside is that, the staff & the management personnel are greatly engaged in the care and treatment being provided to the patients. The Social Worker, housekeeping team, and the receptionists are exceptional. Waterside is absolutely my premier recommended facility for anyone looking for a place for their love ones... it is a home away from home. There's a CNA named Aida, she is one of a kind... caring and highly professional. Having someone like her taking care of my father is a blessing from heaven. I would like to take the time to thank the Administrator and the DON in particular because employees always reflect the attitude of the person in charge.

Experiencia negativa: Not impressed by any means on the care given to my dad. The environment is ghetto. The building looks dirty and run down inside. Unfortunately there isn’t many options for my dad because he has a trache, he’s immobile, and non verbal. He freezes every night in his room because the nurses go in and cut his thermostat down to 65 everyday and leave him with no covers. Doctors and therapists that oversee care will not reach out to family regarding their loved ones progress. I cannot wait until we can transition him home. Most of these types of facilities offer sub par care but this place is one of the worst I’ve seen. The state board needs to be contacted for sure!

Experiencia negativa: No pain management at this place. The care they give is very poor. To leave a person in a wet diaper all night and half the day is deplorable. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Would they want their loved one to be treated that way. Also, the number of infections my family member caught since being there for the two weeks that they have been is ridiculous. Most likely, it wouldn't have happened if my family was being cared for properly. I'm disgusted and am actively searching for a new location so I can rescue my family from their lack of care.

Experiencia fantástica: Great people! my Respiratory therapist's always treat me well and I feel at home. I feel cared for and know they do their best. i do wish there was some updating, painting and cleaning because the building looks run down and gives a bad first impression.

They have great staff here! Physical therapy team was great as well! Waterside successfully removed his feeding tube he has no infections today! Experiencia fantástica: My husband has been in a few nursing homes recently but they were very poor in comparison to Waterside! The staff greets you with a smile. Everyone is so pleasant and very helpful. I especially learned so much about treacha care and the respiratory therapist was very patient with me. Giving had me sectioning my husband's trach like a pro. She even made sure the medical supplies were here at my house and functioning correctly.

Experiencia positiva: My Mom is a quadriplegic for 25 plus years and she was placed here by default, but I'm so glad she did. We have been through nightmares in other facilities but Waterside was really a heaven sent. The building definitely needs some upgrades but its clean. The aides and some nurses there really care about there jobs and the residents. Kim, Susie, and Jackie are angels. My Mom is not easy person and they really care about her. No place is perfect so advocate for your people, ask for what you want, stay on the staff, and visit often. They will care as much as you do.

My friend was here for almost a year. respiratory was able help him learn to take care of his trach, therapy helped him walk and the nursing staff encouraged his recovery. Everyone treated him like family! He still calls GG (Respiratory) to check in and ask questions and shes always available. It’s good to know they care! This isnt an easy job and i appreciate those who do it with love!

Experiencia negativa: This is the worst place to send anyone. The nursing staff do not respond to the patients at all. They will let them lay in throw up for hours. The facility is very dirty and stinks really bad. They have roaches in the rooms and halls. They do not clean the rooms at all. The facility needs to be torn down. I’m surprise the health department hasn’t shut them down. They have patients laying in bed hollering and crying for help. The nurses are gathered together talking and cursing and not tending to the patients. The security guard was never on duty and I was able to walk in anytime of night. So please do not send your loved one here.

Experiencia negativa: Don’t place your family here, they’re unprofessional and couldn’t care less about the people in the facility. The staff ignores the patients asking for help, they don’t check on them or turn them that’s why so many complain of bed sores and septics. I am amazed this place is still operating, something needs to be done about the way they treat people. I would not allow my dog to be treated there. The pictures are deceitful if this is your last option make sure you check on them daily visiting, if not the staff will lie or not answer your call at all while your loved ones is unattended to in a darkroom half way dead.

Experiencia negativa: They killed my fiancee. He had a tracheostomy, a PEG tube and stage 4 bedsore. When I visited they had him a bed that was too small for him. He was slumped down sideways. The staff was rude to me when I called about his death. I'm not even sure that they were turning him. I live 2.5 hours away. Picture taken 6/2/23 died 6/9/2023. His body temp was low I had to get the nurse she turned the thermostat up. He was supposed to have an air mattress there was none I saw a roach in his room actually 2 roaches. I tried calling during the week and no one answers the phone. I was shocked to hear he passed away. I expected him to go back to the ICU. His discharge papers also indicated he would be back in the ICU. Anyways this is the last time I saw him alive.

Experiencia negativa: My brother has been here for some years now, and I have to say, that the food here is absolutely horrible. My brother has no teeth, and today when I came to visit, his dinner consists of some hard, old, and cold chicken nuggets, chicken noodle soup with no meat. I couldn't imagine eating any of this. Most of all since my brother has been at this facility, he seems to be getting worse. He has sores on his legs and back. Please help my brothers.

Experiencia fantástica: My family put my aunt in this facility and apparently it’s actually pretty nice to live here, considering… Our biggest concern was her breathing because she was on a ventilator. When I tell you those respiratory therapists were on point! She always had good things to say about them and how the took care of her. It was obvious that they cared because they are always so kind and attentive. They always are patient to respond when I ask them questions, and believe me, I know I test their patience!lol Anyways, if you have a loved one…who you actually care about, I would highly suggest you consider waterside, especially if they need respiratory care! - Peach

Experiencia negativa: I do not recommend! My loved one has been there a little over a month and the staff have been so negligent! They told her they weren’t going to give her any water unless she cleans her table off(her tables would have cups or food on it), SHE CANT WALK! She lays there in her own soil hours at a time, even some from overnight ! She calls loved ones and cries to us about how hungry she is , or thirsty or how dirty she is. I can’t take it!

Experiencia fantástica: PT/OT are very excellent at this facility and they care about the people that they are helping. They are patient, encouraging and exemplary with their work. I would recommend this facility for anyone with Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy needs.

Experiencia negativa: My sister calls for help only to be ignored by staff who prefers to leave her for the next change of shift… she lies helpless for hours…September 19 Thank you for your concern. It seems staff members assigned to my sister were alerted & reminded of their obligation to nursing home residents; simultaneously, my sister has become confident that Waterside management & her family will continue to address issues.

Experiencia negativa: This is the worst place you can send a loved one too. Even if the hospital insists that this is the only place you can go to REFUSE IT!!! My wife was there for 6 weeks for treatment and came back home in worse condition than when she arrived there. In a matter of just a couple of weeks I had to take her to the ER and she was admitted into the ICU. After her stay at the hospital her doctor wanted to send her back to Waterside Rehab Center in spite of telling her doctor the experience she had there. My wife is now at home getting her treatments from myself and our family. I might be losing lost time at work to take care of her, but its better than the frustration and negligence that we had to go thru. the daily food that she received was terrible. At times just plain bread with one slice of baloney and a snack bag. Breakfast dry bacon and plain dry toast. I brought her food every day so she could have something decent to eat. On 2 occasions as I walked thru the facility I was stopped by a patient and asked if I had any food on me to give to them cause they were hungry. The first 2 days there she did not receive any of her medications as prescribed by her doctor at the hospital. The nurse told her she did not have any prescriptions noted in her discharge paperwork and refused to even give her a Tylenol for pain. I have a copy of her discharge paperwork when she left the hospital so I know the nurse deliberately refused to give her the medication. There was one nurse there that actually did care and did what she could to help. I commend her for that. I will not mention her name to protect her from any backlash from the facility. It took me almost 2 weeks to get her a alternating pressure mattress for her wounds and once she received it the mattress failed to hold air. Instead of replacing the mattress my wife laid on the bare hard bed frame for almost a day and a half after her nurse kept assuring me that they were taking care of it. There are standard procedures in place to change a catheter and what the nurse did was completely unsanitary. I could go on even more. I believe I have expressed my point. If you care about your loved ones or anyone you know. Do not let them be sent to this facility run by Saber. I cannot speak about the other facility that they run near Virginia Beach General, but looking at the reviews from other patients you can judge yourself.

Experiencia positiva: The staff at waterside was very friendly And I had a great relationship with them I felt they took good care of my husband Frank Wine Everyone was very helpful My husband is home now after 6 months of being in hosp or rehab thank god I can’t remember everyone’s name but Tracy the admissions coordinator was my rock She helped me thru some emotional times She is the best and I will never forget her She also helped me with some issues Susie and letsi were Awsome very caring love them both Franchesca on the fourth hallway and Brenda were also the best And Kesha she was Awsome Molly and Jackie PT and OT amazing And last but not least Vee the nurse manager was also amazing The staff was just great and I love them all I’m glad my husband is home but I will miss everyone at Waterside I know I left some names out and I’m sorry for that but the staff there is great!!$

Experiencia negativa: I understand that yall may be short staff but this is in no way elder family members should be treated there's no communication between staff leaving and staff coming on they don't answer phones when you call to check on family members my mom has been there hasn't had anything for pain, also has been there more then two weeks and just started her physical therapy I have great concern for my mom's welfare while here I will be taking this up to another level as needed.

Experiencia negativa: They have been taking poor care of my loved one. My loved one went in able to walk and go to the bathroom on their own. They took the walker away from them and said they has to use theirs and never gave one to my loved one. Now has to re-learn and gain strength in legs to walk. They do not answer phone calls or messages. Has moved my loved one several times. I will be escalating this to the next level.

I have been there for 2 years and throughout my travels I have been to other homes and this one Is the best one.When I started, unit 4 which is there Vent and Trac unit amazed me.to see Everyday there is progress and care the nurse team gives and they even offer an in-house dialysis how convenient for some. Then I switch over to unit one, which to me is the most Busiest simply because you have a lot of rehabilitation and therapy. And lastly unit three this is my favorite maybe because I spent most of my time and know everyone.Wow what a wonderful experience and all the nurses are beautiful, Sweet ,Smart and fast I like how they notice things and get it fixed right away. I would recommend a family member and someone who is looking for employment and growth to work here. Shoutout to every department from the Scheduler to the Administrator Thanks Sab

Experiencia positiva: Overall the core staff at this facility is very caring and positive however there are some that do not have patient care as a priority and I have to follow up consistently about specifics regarding my care. I think everyone should a caring attitude it would improve the overall experience at the Waterside Health and Wellness center. The onsite management team needs to listen to the residents and to put some of the recommendations into action or at least document them to see if the answer is in the facility. Shout out to Chantel and Mike the maintenance man for always being positive and professional. Shout out to Molly and Maggie and James for a great physical therapy experience. Shout out to the nursing supervisors that have helped me when I have had issues regarding my health. Everything wasn't negative however I would have liked to see more that was positive. Overall with recommended improvements I would recommend this facility to someone that needs to care however the facility does need a cable upgrade as well as appropriate dietary support. Food references need to be saved and applied correctly to ensure the residents receive their proper dietary needs. Residents should not be getting cold food first thing in the morning. A tuna fish sandwich is a poor choice for dinner in a skilled nursing facility. Sometimes some of their practices gives off the vibe that they are trying to cut costs above everything else and avoid a proper quality experience for the residents. Yes people are in business to make a profit however the best way to make a profit is to take care of the needs of the customer base as when you are getting insurance funds to help with the operation of the facility.

Experiencia fantástica: My father was admitted to Waterside Health and Rehab after a not so good experience at another Sabre rehab facility. Granted my father's condition at that time was still a bit touch and go, the care he received at the previous facility caused my father's in and out of the hospital stint. Once here my father felt an immediate difference in the care he was receiving. My father is quite the "negative nancy" but he had many favorites here at Waterside. The nursing staff under Jenny Askew's close eye looked after my father rather well. James and Annie worked diligently to push my dad to do his daily PT and OT. LaDonya and Denise at Renew Dialysis comforted my father during his daily treatment and even gave him a Xmas present. My family is very grateful for the attention and care that was given to my father during his recovery at Waterside.

Experiencia positiva: My son Brad was in Waterside for rehab due to covid. There are some positive experiences as well as negative experiences. He was in there about 6 weeks, arriving totally immobile. Learning from this experience, do not be admitted on a Friday because regular staff do not work on weekends and he had a bad experience with a travelling nurse which resulted in his going to the emergency room for 24 hours. If you have a relative in a rehab, you must be an advocate and be there daily to ask questions and help the patient. He had a wound doctor that was to come weekly, however, she did not see him for 3 weeks and criticized him for not taking care of his wound. Also do not be discharged on a Friday with a list of medicines, prescriptions etc as their discharge procedures were not very informative. The food was adequate, however, he requested a low-carb diet and every week completed a menu which was pretty much ignored. Daily nursing was good, however, they seemed short staffed. On the very positive side, Molly and James in the occupational and physical therapy area were just wonderful, working with Brad, getting him stronger, walking and preparing him for home. If anyone is in any rehab please be there for them as sometime they cannot fend for themselves.

Experiencia negativa: They did not provide needed care and billed for it anyway. Left wife in soiled bed for hours at a time.. Tried to push us onto medicaid even though we had private insurance. Lied to insurance company and to us about calling insurance company. The bill they sent was not itemized and they have still not sent an itemized bill nearly a year later. They get a one star rating because I can't give anything lower. Don't send anyone you love to this facility.

Experiencia fantástica: We LOVE the nurses and staff at Waterside! They were so kind and attentive to my mother during a difficult time of rehabilitation. Their hard work and dedication put her on a road to success and she was able to make it home after healing from a major surgery. Everyone there was friendly and professional! Highly recommend!

Experiencia negativa: On Feb 1 2022 this place is the reason my mom is no longer living. My mom was normally on ventilator throughout the night but the night of January 31, 2022 they didn't have her on the ventilator this was something that I was notified of after the passing of my mom no one informed me of this change. I received my mom medical records and it stated that they gave her night medication around 730pm on January 31, 2022 n then the next contact with my mom was 555am February 1, 2022 when nurse stated she walked in and found my mom unresponsive. I asked over n over again for a meeting with staff during the passing of my mom but my request been ignored even when I was waiting for corner to come get my mom I asked to speak to someone in the respiratory department and of course they never got with me either. I was told that staff suppose to check on patients every 2 hours, why they didn't check on her. I complain prior about her call button not being in her reach and the last thing I mean so no alarms went off when she was in distress. Nothing about this making any sense to me and by them ignoring me or no type of communication from them not even a sorry for your loss is not sitting well with me. I recommend no one to send your love one to this place. The ONLY reason my mom was even there cause she was a dialysis patient that have a trach and no out patient dialysis clinic take trach patients which is another story. Everyday we visited mom n every night she would ask could we stay with her there overnight n now I see why

Experiencia negativa: While my wife was in this rehab I found it difficult to talk to a nurse by phone to check on her status and when I did get a nurse on the phone they were not very knowledgeable about her status......She passed away and a message was left on my cell phone but fortunately my son called me and informed me......Constant hang ups when you call to check on patient.......Fortunately for my wife she is in a better place now and I pray those who were in charge of her care did every thing in their power to make her comfortable in the end but unfortunately based on the circus atmosphere I was witness to trying just to check on her status daily I sadly fear not......I see other posts where they get a response to call a number and let's talk about your experience well I waited a week and went to you location to try to get come answers and left with more questions than answers and I'm sorry to say I kinda expected that before I got there❗️

Experiencia fantástica: Waterside took excellent care of my father. Despite being short staffed with Covid issues they always took the extra time and energy to keep me informed and to looked after my father. The administration and nursing staff kept me informed every step of the way. Even after my father passed they were gracious and kind to my entire family. No nursing care facility can provide the comfort and care of a person’s home but waterside does an excellent job taking care of its residents.

Experiencia negativa: Very unorganized when it comes to trying to get in contact with Nurses and doctors for information involving the patients current status. Five employees quit within the last two months. The nurses interrupt your 30 min visit with the patient due to lack of performance. I’ve noticed cracked lips. Unchanged pampers. Dirty finger nails with some of the patients. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been working here since February of this year as the Life Enrichment Director and this is also my first job out of college. The staff are friendly and hardworking. I love being able to work with all of the amazing residents we have here and being able to put a smile on their faces with the activity programs myself and my assistant offer to them!

Experiencia negativa: My mom was in there and had dementia and on on dialysis they took her off dialysis they mistreated her in there and she died in there she had septic in there from them not taking care of her bed sores it was horrible that's the worst place even the director quit

Experiencia negativa: I am a former resident of this facility and would like to share my experience there. My experience was one of inattentive care from the aides, leaving me with skin breakdown and bedsores. The lack of response by the medical staff allowed a relatively simple, treatable infection to nearly kill me and borders on malpractice. I have medical records to justify this claim. I came to this facility for therapy/rehabilitation after a surgery. The therapy facilities are old and antiquated. They consisted of a hand bike, a lat/shoulder 'pull down' weight stack, an exercise bike and a set of parallel bars. The equipment looked old and second hand. Broken equipment was piled on the other side of the room. The majority of 'therapy' consisted of range of motion exercises while laying in bed. The therapy staff did the best they could with what they had, but you would think that a facility with 'rehabilitation' in it's title would actually have the means to provide it. The staff was a 'mixed bag'. Some truly cared about the patients/residents. There were others that; quite simply, should not be in the healthcare industry. I heard the term 'we're shorthanded' frequently. The 7 pm to 7 am shift was the worst. There were 3 people in particular who would oftentimes come into the room to do changes/cleaning while carrying on personal conversations on the phone. While I never experienced it there were several rumors of older residents being hit/abused at night. Showers were missed. The inability to stay clean and dry lead to bedsores that were ultimately treated in a hospital and by another facility. When I came there the facility was owned by Sentara. In July, 2019, Saber Healthcare purchased the facility. Almost immediately, cost cutting measures were taken; often to the detriment of residents. For example, under Sentara residents would receive a small snack and drink in the afternoon from the snack cart. This was cut by Saber. Absorbent pads used by Sentara were cut in lieu of what amounted to be cloth rags that held moisture and caused bed sores. The hair stylist services were cut. Food quality was drastically worse. In late November, 2019 I began to feel ill. I began sleeping almost constantly, which was not like me. This was largely ignored by staff. This continued for 3 days. After being unable to reach me for 3 days by phone my daughter came to the facility. Upon seeing the condition I was in and the fact I would not wake up she insisted that I be taken to the hospital. I would then spend the next 3 1/2 weeks in ICU with an untreated urinary tract infection that had gone septic. At one point I was downgraded to critical condition and was intubated and placed on a ventilator. I would eventually recover and; upon discharge, go to another facility where I received proper care. All of this for a very simple infection that could have been treated with an antibiotic but was ignored. I would not recommend this facility, and would not place my loved one there.

Experiencia fantástica: I work as an independent contracted PA providing care to residents at several LTC/SNFs throughout the area. I have worked in many different facilities over the years, and I can say with certainty that this is one of the top organizations I have worked with. After a period of decline under different ownership, they have put forward significant effort towards restoring excellent patient care that this facility was known for when it first opened decades ago. The management and nursing staff truly care for the residents, and have implemented best practices to optimize and maintain the arc of each resident's rehab journey. While there are always areas for improvement at any facility, I've been impressed with the consistent attention to detail and sustained efforts to prevent accidents. They quickly address and correct problems that may arise during a patient's stay, and create plans of care to optimize outcomes for residents at each step in recovery. I would happily stay at this facility for rehab following a hospital stay. "Fancy and frilly" it is not, but the core of their care-delivery model is solid, and improving every day. I look forward to coming to take care of my patients here each week!
