Experiencia negativa: Our visit was an ABSOLUTE JOKE. Sat in waiting room for 9 hours with no answers and felt like staff was treating my wife's symptoms as "fake". ER waiting area was dirty and staff was unprofessional. Very disappointing visit again

Experiencia negativa: Terrible experience. Nurses didn't give a single damn about us , especially once they realised it was the flu. Was crying in pain from aches and pains for two hours, tried to hit my call button multiple times just to be ignored, all before they came in just to tell me there was nothing they would give me besides tylenol and nausea meds because "well yeah you have the flu". "Just give it time" "there's nothing we can do" meanwhile i'd been begging for cough or pain meds for the entire time and all they gave me was Tylenol and a minor cough aide that did NOTHING. I would have been better off not even going. My partner was ignored by nurses and staff from essentially the time we got in (7:30) until 12:30, just to be told that the ONE test (flu) we needed wasn't done yet. And this was of course only after we had asked multiple staff members for help either directly or help finding our nurses. Complete waste of time, and a miserable experience. Do better.

Experiencia negativa: This place is terrible. It’s more like a homeless shelter than a hospital. I sat for four hours with my son having to vomit in a plastic bag in front of everyone. I have seen better hospitals in Iraq! You people suck!

Experiencia negativa: Completely unprofessional. My sister went in having a panic attack and dangerously high blood pressure, saying she thought she was going to die. The front desk clerk WENDY told her that there had been people waiting there longer than her and that there were people in worse conditions than she. She escalated the situation and people were taking videos of my sister. They deleted her chart and had her waiting AGAIN after waiting for 4 hours. People walking around and kind people offered to help. People were saying how miserable this hospital was but WOW. She was NEVER admitted and left at 2 am. Some of the people here should not be working with human beings. Completely soulless inside. This hurts me so badly to even write.

Experiencia negativa: My boyfriend was treated a week ago horribly by the staff. They were incredibly rude, unprofessional ,lazy, he’s all bruised up from being manhandled by your staff. They were talking about a patient right in front of my boyfriend, saying they wanted to “put her down to shut her up”, and 40 mins later they injected her with a sedative I presume and she was quiet. The paramedics also kept trying to search his phone. This is an egregious example of invasion of privacy. It wasn’t a life or death situation so h there was no need for it. I just wish the nurses and staff cared a bit more about their patients. There were a few nice nurses, but the bad outweighed the good. From what I saw, your staff treated my boyfriend and their patients as if they’re just an inconvenience.

Experiencia negativa: Beware! Terrible place! They discharged my daughter at 11 PM on a Saturday night. She needed medication for blood pressure and also medicinefor a blood clot. But the pharmacy was closed. They told her to go find a 24 hour pharmacy, but the prescription was written for the hospital pharmacy. These are life-threatening conditions and to toss her out on the street like that is ridiculous and very irresponsible. Also, she was supposed to meet with a lactation consultant to get her breast pump and that person had already left for the day obviously Because it was so late at night. My daughter also developed a condition where she was bleeding in her urine. And they didn’t address it except to the fact that they attributed it maybe to the blood thinner. To discharge someone at 11 PM on With very serious medical conditions is completely irresponsible. Stay away from this hospital.

Experiencia negativa: I am currently in the Bay State er, and have never had a worse experience. I have been here 7 hours in excruciating pain, and no one cares. To the med assistant chastising me for exaggerating the pain and punished me for it. To the 4 people I asked for help, said they would, and never came back. I have not been offered any meds, water, anything. This place is a hellhole.

Experiencia fantástica: I recently had care at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, and overall it was a positive experience. The medical team, including both doctors and nurses, was attentive, communicative, and genuinely patient‑centered. Nurses checked in regularly, always wearing a smile and offering help whenever needed, no matter how small the task seemed. I felt supported and monitored throughout my stay. The medical staff clearly cared and worked hard. Would I recommend Baystate Medical Center? Yes. The clinical care is solid, deeply human, and genuinely caring, just be prepared that scheduling certain services may take time.

Experiencia negativa: Bay state staff assaulted me in the hallway to the ER after I asked for a lawyer July 18 after I tried to file a harassment order against Commonwealth Care alliance down at the Hampden County District courthouse. Please to guide me access to my phone and contact information, Then had me shipped after Westborough mental health facility an hour and a half away. They threatened to keep me, they threatened to send me to Bridgewater for six months if I didn’t sign paperwork and agreed to what they said. I was magically released after refusing to do anything that doctor ordered. That doesn’t sound normal to me, if I had any mental health issues, I wouldn’t have been released. This is part of that insurance fraud Scheme I was talking about. Baystate held me overnight against my will and the bill is less than the AMR ambulance bill.

Experiencia negativa: So, one star as usual, if I could go negative stars, I would as others have said as well, this hosdpital is abhorrent, rude nurses, rude staff in general, (Carla), 6th floor Nurse or CNA, who knows as she never identified who she was, unprofessional attitudes on the phone, answers, "Hello, Hi", talking to other people while answering the call, no help in answering questions about my loved one, stated , she called the Dr., nothing from them. BHS is going to buy/partner with/takeover, Mercy Hospital, it will be so much more than worse than it is now, I just can't imagine. Other Hospitals in the area are just as bad, no staff, understaffed, unprofessional under trained staff, Health Care in this country is getting worse and the Government is turning a blind eye to the Elephant in the room.

Experiencia negativa: In May 2025 I visited the ER because I was wheezing as I have a history of Asthma. I arrived in ED around 2:30am, and got vitals taken with oxygen level between 92-90. They kept me waiting in the ER waiting room for two hours. During my wait, I approached the triage nurse around 3:40am and he checked my oxygen level, which was 92-90. He decided to go another step further, listened to my lungs and told me that I’m wheezing and I should take some deep breaths for now. He then told me to wait again until they call me name. Worst experience initially with the front end people, and the triage nurse. Very unprofessional staff the way they addressed patients and family members. At 4:30am I was taken in and was treated without any delays for asthma attack. I will avoid seeking treatment at Bay State Hospital at any cost because of their not so compassionate care and unprofessionalism.

Experiencia negativa: I’ve been in the waiting for 7 hours as we speak no doctor has came out check on me it’s not busy there’s about 30 beds open and still got us waiting here when we ask how long it’s gonna take the nurse has attitude and say I don’t know very unprofessional they don’t like they job and the way they speak to people is very rude

Experiencia negativa: If I could give zero Stars I would I went to the email emergency room last night because I cut through my finger very bad! And I was bleeding very badly and needed to be seen quickly because of what I was going through they told me I had to wait at least 7 hours which is ridiculous! Obviously people aren't doing their job. I left and went to another hospital which thank god because the cut was so bad and got taken in right away!

Experiencia negativa: Unironically, the inpatient care actually IS equal to and exceedingly worse than the outpatient and emergency care. Baystate only cares about paychecks, not patient care. Across the TWO Baystate facilities that we have been in within the last three days, they both have immense similarities; Unprofessional, overworked and understaffed teams across the entire network. As an inpatient, there has been absolutely no care, concern or attention given overall for testing times, transportation or overall response times for patients comments, questions, concerns, rest time, movement, medication plans, bathing and overall cleanliness. I truthfully do not feel that this hospital network is working to help any of us, just themselves and their pockets. As I work on contact for transfer outside of Baystate, do yourselves a favor and Take the extra 15 minute ride in either direction to steer clear of any Baystate facilities if you value your care and/or life. Monopoly is a board game for everyone EXCEPT the wealthy CEO’s who don’t step foot in the buildings they “manage”.

Experiencia negativa: If I could put zero stars I would. Over six hours to find out blood test results. Noone knowing anything about anything. No compassion. Absolutely revolting to sit over six hours to be told some people wait sixteen hours. Why?! This is insane. Lots of staff but NOONE to assist.

Experiencia negativa: Over the years I’ve had serval problems with this hospital but today I had a surgery and they put me in observation when I was supposed to be admitted to a room in the general hospital. I’m still waiting on the damn room I was supposed to be in and it’s been 2 HRS! I CAME IN FOR 1:00 pm in the afternoon came out around 3 or 4 for surgery ITS 12:07 pm ITS THE NEXT DAY THIS IS RIDICULOUS and I will be posting my progress online. To show people how long it takes.

Experiencia negativa: If youre thinking about having your baby here don’t! From start to finish our experience has been awful, my wife waited 9 hours to get a delivery room and when we finally did there wasn’t a midwife able to help deliver the baby, she couldn’t hold back the baby anymore and they had to have someone step in and help and it didn’t get any better from there. Our baby came out and everything seemed fine till we were moved up the our room an hour later, she began feeding and spent the first day and night throwing up green bile, we told a nurse everytime and we were constantly told it was normal until the second day and they finally told us it wasn’t normal and needed to move her to NICU! Her stomach was emptied of the bile and test and X-rays were done and nothing was found, she spent the next 2-3 days in NICU where we were told everyday that maybe the next day she would be able to go home, she didn’t spit up anymore bile or anything. She had an episode on Monday night at around 8:45pm they claimed, we were there at 10pm that night and 1am and around 7am for shift change. Everytime we went back no one told us there was an issue and it was till 11am the next day we were finally told about it and that she needed to be held for an additional 3-5 days. We were absolutely irate as it had to of been somewhat serious to warrant keeping her longer and to not be told till almost 14 hours later was ridiculous. The nurses were extremely inconsistent(we did have a few good ones) and communication was a huge issue to the point where the NICU administrator had to come over and speak with us and apologize, we forgave and forgot until 2 days later we watched our baby on the camera cry for 30mins and got zero treatment and it happened again the next night as well. The second time my wife and I were out to dinner to celebrate the baby being discharged, we had the camera on her the whole time to watch her and not long after we arrived to the restaurant she began crying and moving around, we continued watching through our appetizers and dinner and no one paid her any attention other than to put a pacifier in her mouth so we didn’t even get to enjoy our dinner and flushed 70$ down the drain. The first time I had to roll out of bed and drive over to take care of her myself. Avoid this place at all costs if you care about your baby

Experiencia negativa: If I could give 0 stars I would! My father was admitted the first week of May to the Daly building where he recieved some of the worst care I have ever seen, and I worked in under-staffed nursing homes!!! We referred to his stay for a week, the week from hell. He was told he could not go to the bathroom alone, after his call bell being on for over an hour, we took him to the bathroom ourselves. He was told someone would be in to help him was up, which again never happened until we did the best we could with what we could find in the bathroom, which was nothing but a soap and towel dispenser and a sink. Thankfully after the worst week of our lives, he was able to come home. UNFORTUNATELY he had to go back to the er, where he was once again transferred to Springfield. This time, the care has been even worse, which I did not think was possible! We, the family, have called multiple different people to get answers from, left tons of messages, and have still gotten no where or even received a call back! I live over an hour away so receiving a call from my father, crying, saying if he had his wallet he would get an Uber to get the hell out of there is horrifying!!!

Experiencia negativa: Was at Baystate Springfield yesterday after a blood clot in leg was diagnosed at Baystate urgent care. Spent 8 hrs at ER going through a ton of tests to confirm that it was a blood clot. Left the ER around midnight…..a stack of papers, I’m sure a huge bill, and nothing was administered or done for the clot. They said I’d be fine to get meds from my pharmacy in the morning. After Urgent Care said to go to the ER immediately….absolutely disgusted with the whole situation at ER. No shot, IV, or meds administered, then went to my pharmacy and they were out of the meds the ER prescribed! Not sure I will ever go back to Baystate……I hope someone from there reads this and responds. An awful lot of nothing took place for something that was deemed an urgent medical condition……

Experiencia negativa: Have been sitting here for 16 hrs with my mother who has CHF and blood clots in her leg. Intense pain. Then there's a nurse who only cones out to telk people who are very ill and in pain to keep their feet off the furniture, they are just trying to find a comfortable position after 12 to 26 hrs. Another nurse was extremely rude when asking questions. Still here hoping for the best but looking like bare minimum effort empty beds in back, nobody being called in. Will not be returning to this hospital for emergency services. And please don't bother responding with generic apologies with a phone number to call.

Experiencia negativa: Last week I came to the Emergency Room with severe abdominal pain trouble breathing headache and vomiting. After 13 hours of which all they did was blood work and EKG and left me crying in pain in the waiting room I left as I couldn’t hold it no more. I get hospitals get busy etc but this is ridiculous and the new trend for what used to be a good hospital. What was worse was the nurse who was rude when I checked in after 8 hours. Experiencia negativa: Terrible experience worst nurse ever in the 24 hour up to date that is since I'm still waiting. Nurses have been aggressively hostile to myself and others that I'veseen since getting here 24 hours ago. I feel pointedly singled out forgotten and pushed ok the end of the list every couple of hours. I guess the phrase even a bad Nurse is better than no nurse. I have steadily goþen worse. But hey as long as the get ok screw me over for no apparent reason that I've been told or can figure out . People who I have been talking to for hours that have way lower priority issues are being seen before me. So I ha e no recourse have to stay because it's most likely a infection. In my bones. Should be zero stars.

Experiencia negativa: My special needs sister left in ER for 3 days vomiting and diarrhea. When I arrive she was covered in vomiting sitting and her own stool. It the nurse 2.5 more hours to clean her up and give her pain meds. When I called back the next day she was still in ER and no one in ER answered phone . I tried calling between 7:30- 3:30 pm. Multiple times. This is not acceptable!

Experiencia fantástica: I have been treated by Baystate Medical's Demore Cancer Care center for the last 2 years and most recently at Baystate Medical Center's main hospital for over 2 weeks. I am being treated for complications associated with my disease. From the swift attention in the E.R, to the surgical staff, the entire nursing dept, the Chaplins office, to housekeeping and maintenance. Everyone I have been in contact with has been professional, empathetic and respectful. Everyone truly cares about my well being and my steady improvement. Baystate Medical Center in Springfield is one of Massachusetts best medical facilities. I know this because I have been treated by some of the best facilities in the state such as Tufts, Dana Farber and Brigham and women's in Boston. If you ever find yourself in a position where you require any type of serious or nonserious treatment, feel at ease knowing you will receive 5 star treatment here at Baystate medical center. -David H Cancer patient since 2022

Experiencia negativa: ED department is horrible. I was having heart palpitations that were constant and causing shortness of breath. My Eko 500 stethoscope picked up Afib and I was having a severe migraine. I arrived at the ED around 4:30, the hurried and got an ekg, labs and xray then sat me down in the waiting room for 5 hours. I was still having heart palpitations and my migraine was getting worse. Around 8pm the waiting room flooded with people who I’m pretty sure just wanted a warm place to stay for the night. No one was getting called back the entire time I was there which I find crazy because when I went back for my xray C pod was empty. There was probably 10 beds which is more than the people in the waiting room when I arrived. Someone came in and refused all testing until they got him a private room, they get him a private room so they can do a work up and he refused it. After 5 hours I couldn’t bare it anymore the smells, the pacing of a patient who was clearly on something, the lack of a medical personal even coming out to inform me my EKG was nothing to worry about, I left. I asked the staff before leaving how much long or there was any update on my ekg and labs and I got told “we are slow moving they aren’t discharging people fast enough for us to get people in.” I said yeah I know anytime after 5pm the ED shuts down until the next morning, no one moves. As a medical professional for me to be sitting in that waiting room I knew I needed to be seen ASAP. I will be calling patient advocate as well to make a complaint.

Experiencia fantástica: Baystate Medical Center deserves more than five stars for the compassion and integrity their staff showed me and my family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. My brother passed away on January 13th, and the experience, though heartbreaking, was met with incredible kindness from the staff. The ER doctor who broke the news to our family was gentle, empathetic, and compassionate with his words. Despite their best efforts to save my brother, it was clear they had done everything they could. His kindness and sincerity helped us process the devastating news in a way that felt supportive during such a fragile moment. In the days that followed, I was desperately searching for the jewelry my brother had on him at the time of his passing. I had to retrace every step of his transport, feeling overwhelmed and heartbroken. The receptionist, Lisa, immediately empathized with me and offered her heartfelt condolences. She was incredibly kind and helpful, guiding me to the right departments and ensuring my concerns were taken seriously. I was then connected with Jennifer in the Circle of Life department, who was truly a beacon of light during this dark time. Jennifer went above and beyond in every possible way. She personally searched for the jewelry, made calls to other departments on my behalf, and kept me updated with immediate callbacks. Her genuine care and determination to help me recover what felt like a part of my brother was nothing short of extraordinary. Thanks to her efforts, his jewelry was found, and I was able to pick it up that same day. This experience could have been a nightmare—I had feared the worst after hearing horror stories of stolen belongings. But because of Baystate Medical Center’s honest and compassionate staff, I was reunited with my brother’s jewelry. This has allowed me to pass it on to my niece, exactly as my brother would have wanted. Baystate Medical Center not only provided exceptional care and service but gave me and my family a sense of closure during an unimaginable time. Thank you to the ER doctor, Lisa, Jennifer, and everyone else who made this possible. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Baystate Medical Center

Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story during such a profoundly difficult time. We are deeply sorry for the loss of your brother and honored to have been able to provide compassion and support to you and your family during this unimaginable moment.

Your words about our ER team, Lisa, and Jennifer mean so much. It’s truly inspiring to hear how their kindness, empathy, and dedication made such a difference in your experience. We are glad Jennifer’s determination and care helped you recover your brother’s jewelry, giving you a sense of closure and the ability to pass it on to your niece as he would have wanted.

Thank you again for taking the time to express your gratitude. Our thoughts are with you and your family. -Responded by Baystate Health

Experiencia negativa: Recently one of my relatives was seen here for multiple mechanical falls. This corresponds with a sudden onset of general weakness. They discharged him and the physician stated “we did not see a reason for lab work.”. There was no official work-up to rule out potential cardiovascular or neurological involvement. This was professional negligence and an unethical way to treat a patient. Good patient care involves a thorough assessment. I would highly recommend Holyoke Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center, or Hartford Hospital instead until patient care can be improved here.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re very sorry to hear about your relative’s experience and your concerns regarding their care. Experiencia positiva: Day 1 - we got the call for a kidney and drove the 1 and 20 minutes to hospital. Right away they sent my dad to shower and as soon as he was done he had several nurses doing different things to get him ready. Only ones I wasn’t impressed with was the ones putting in the IV. My dad tried to tell them the best spot and they were talking to each other over him. So one of the IV’s was uncomfortable for him. All the other nurses were amazing though. I only remember a few names as this is an overwhelming time. Down to pre op room and anesthesiologist and transplant doctor came and told us what would be done and answered all my questions. Then the doctor confirmed he had my number to call me after. I was very impressed with that. The doctor himself called me when the surgery was done and told me how it went. I think his name was Dr. Kavanaugh but it was hard to hear fully with the mask. I waited in his room and the nurses came in with updates like he will be going for an ultrasound and then will be up in a certain amount of time. When they brought him up again several nurses was there to get him hooked back up and see what he needed. We probably won’t get much sleep as they will be in every hour but I’m OK with that. Day 2 - only 1 nurse today but Sam is very attentive. At 75 my dad is alert and we are cracking jokes (even with little sleep because of the hourly check ups). I never thought after a major surgery like this that my dad would be doing so well. Now I’m waiting for the doctor so I can ask questions.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible experience many months in ICU. My husband age 62, had a scheduled open heart surgery on Jan 24th to replace the heart valve. One week after the surgery his heart started bleeding. He had another open heart surgery mean time they did another surgery in stomach and placed the bag. No one knew how that happened. Then he had short of breath then they said lungs not working and did intubated. He was sedated many weeks. He got very weak day by day not even able to move extremities. All the different team’s waiting for results for weeks months some of the test are none sense. Also waiting for specialist looking at the results for weeks. Somehow day by day he got very weak. They kept my husband in ICU four and half months and send to the rehab with breathing machine. He wasn’t able stay there we had to rush him to U mass memorial hospital. Rehab said Baystate not send any pt. Records when they transferred the pt. In these days technology is so high. Medications surgeries are unbelievable success if they get right surgery team. He is only another Pt. to the hospital but he is everything for us. We lost him. We miss him so much Hope this never happens to any other Pt. He is a heart Pt. but he was very active person before go for this scheduled surgery. I miss him so much.

Experiencia negativa: My Dad was at Baystate last year for sepsis. The first ward he was in (critical care or something) was pretty good. The staff was attentive. Then, he was moved to a different ward or, as my family refers to it, the hell hole. Horrific care! I could never have even imagined that a hospital could have such awful care. It was obvious that they were lacking in systems and policies. The rooms were dirty. Feces and blood on the floor and on the part of the bed that touches the floor. The staff were overwhelmed and overworked. Many just threw their hands in the air. A doctor wanted to cut my dad's toe off that very day. Thankfully, it didn't sound right to my mom and she made him wait. Turns out, there was no infection in my dad's toe at all and he didn't need it amputated. If my Mom wasn't there, they would have amputated it for no reason. We had to have an advocate there 24/7 to prevent dangerous medical mishaps and to get anyone to change the bedpan (they left him sitting in his shit for hours) or give my dad his medication on time. They accidentally over medicated him at one point and we thought he was dying (comatose and his eyes rolling in the back of his head). We could never find any staff. It was hard to get a hold of the doctors. We could never get a hold of administration to tell our concerns to. All the call buttons would be going off on the floor, but no one would come. Staff regularly blamed other staff and claimed they weren't responsible for this person or that person's care, but whoever was supposed to be responsible was never found. One medical professional told us if it were his loved one in the section we were in, he would do everything he could to transfer them out of there. He gave us advice on how to do it, but we could never get a hold of the powers that he to make it happen. I would beg to be taken anywhere but here after our experience. I could never even have imagined worse care. There were some really great people. It wasn't everyone, but the it's clear the place we were in was poorly run with abysmal employee training.

Experiencia fantástica: I have only praise and thanks for the Emergency Department at Baystate. I was a patient there on Christmas Eve. The staff, technicians and doctors were outstanding, professional, and kept us advised as to what they were doing and why. Dr. Walsh was the epitome of what every physician, no matter what their field, should strive to be. Communication, kindness and understanding that any patient is scared and is a human being is key and he understands that. Kudos and many thanks to the entire staff for making my experience there memora

Experiencia negativa: Baystate Medical Physical therapy on Bernie Avenue is a joke. When my brother did get in for an appointment he observed no one answered the phones and therapist seemed to care less about people in for therapy. They would only book him for 2 appointments at a time when he clearly needed at least a month off appointments. He ended up going somewhere else where they actually care about their patients. You can do better Baystate!! I just read answers to reviews. Baystate is sorry. My question is….. what EXACTLY have they done to rectify any of the complaints? People are very sick when they go to your hospital and get treated BADLY. What are you doing about it?

The staff then berated me and said it was my fault. They made me feel like the worst person on earth. I can’t say how much I hate Baystate and the staff for what they have done to me.This experience has haunted me for years they have definitely harm me psychologically when I went for help. Experiencia negativa: Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Was taken in an ambulance and didn’t get seen or helped for an hour after they dropped me off in the hall, where I stayed the entire time. Throwing up, crying, and going #2 on my self because no nurses would come back and help me get up. I had to tell them what medicine to give me. I will be taking this further, I believe they have MAJOR malpractice issues. Completely unacceptable for a hospital to be in the condition they are in. Absolutely horrible service and no care from nurses.

Experiencia negativa: Worst surgery experience of my life. I warned them ahead of time several times that I wake up reacting badly from the anesthesia. The Dr was incredibly unimformative the anesthesiologist was patient and kind. The nursing staff was absolutely not acceptable they didn't listen they made fun of me to other nursing staff and were incredibly rude to the point I left ama an hour post op because they made me so uncomfortable. I recommend a full investigation of this facility.

Experiencia positiva: Worst experience EVER!!! Only giving 3 stars because the Doctors and the Nurses were great. The rest of the experience was terrible!!! My brother needed surgery on a badly broken leg. We tried calling to get an appointment for an Orthopedic Doctor to look at his leg. He waited 4 days before anyone called him back. Then he was only given the option of seeing the PA. She was very nice but useless. Just kept repeating the same things over and over and not answering our questions. Waited another day or 2 to finally get a date for his surgery. Thankfully, his surgery went well. However, the 2 ladies at the waiting room desk were useless!! The second one was just RUDE. I was in the waiting room from 1:00 to 6:00. The only update I received was from the Doctor. After, the supposed waiting room women left. I flagged down a woman and a man, in scrubs, and told them my saga. They immediately turned around and found my brother and escorted me to the correct place. The next morning, I called to get an update on how my brother did overnight. I was informed that I had to call back at 9:00. Not helpful at all! I didn't want a dissertation. I wanted a brief update. For example, "He slept well or "In lots of pain." The Doctors and the Nurses were the only positive aspects of this whole awful debacle.

Experiencia negativa: Worst emergency department I have ever been to. Nurses and staff barely bother to even look you in the eye. Came in with extreme abdominal pain that had been going on for over 6 hours, waited in the waiting room for over two hours, and then was told I wasn’t allowed to lay down. But because of the pain, I could barely sit upright. I would highly recommend going anywhere else if you plan on being seen. Also to say my son has had two admittances here for RSV in two years and not one person was overly friendly. Always just seems like a bother. I always wonder why people praise nurses because I sure haven’t had one experience with anyone who made me feel more at ease than they did to make me feel like an annoyance.

Experiencia negativa: On July 23 I had an appointment with a new doctor in the pulmonary dept. I thought he was very nice and he explained things to me. He said I had a heart murmur and scheduled an echocardiogram for the next week for me. I had that the last week in July. Nobody called me with the results so I thought no news was good news. I ended up calling at the end of August to ask about the results. Someone called me back the same day and said I had heart failure and I should see a cardiologist. That's nice, nobody would have told me that if I didn't call them. And if I had known the diagnosis a month earlier I might have been able to get an appointment with a heart doctor sooner than November 20. Northing was said except that I have heart failure. More information would have been nice. Letting me know would have been nice. Nobody bothered to tell me anything and the woman who called me back wouldn't give me the time to get a pen to write anything down, she just wanted to get off the phone. I am thoroughly disgusted. I would like someone to call me to discuss this and tell me why nobody called me after the test to let me know what was going on. If I hadn't called a month later I wouldn't have any idea that I have heart failure.

Experiencia negativa: My care started out great while in the icu. I've never had a back issue like I do now. Been told by 3 different doctors I have 3 different things going on. I was moved from icu to a floor where a nurse felt my issue was not nessacary for that floor so back to the ice then later that night I was transferred to a step down floor. Where the nursing care changed to less response to call bells. So they started to take me off the iv stuff put on pill form which didn't do shit which I've told them. Tried oxycodone, then 15 MG of morphine also 600 of gabbatine and Tylenol. So for 3 days I've been up now the head guy of pain management has told them twice that I should be on a pca or even iv pain meds and of course their response was not going to happen he need to go to rehab. So your willing to send me to rehab in this much pain that they won't be able to treat me which means I'm coming right back to your er make sense I though your job was to keep me out of the hospital. Doctors should listen more to there patients versus push me out the door current patient room SW532.

Needless to say i could not hold down food and couldn’t stay out of the Head . You would think id get fluids , my normal meds and some answers. Negative no fluids for my dehydration and said they couldn’t give me my meds when on Sunday I was at the ER for an extended stay they were able to and they are both Baystate medical practices . I doubt this woman even read my chart or looked at my med list in the portal . It makes me sick knowing i served my country for people like her . Experiencia negativa: I was attempting to pay a bill online on their system -but the bill "disappeared" - and online stated that I had a balance of $0. Only to find a month later that SAME bill was sent to a bill collector! I was happy to pay the bill online, but WHY would you take the amount OFF your own portal? So when someone goes to actually want to PAY the bill it isn't there - but instead you send the amount to a debt collector Great customer service. You guys suck! And yes, I did pay the debt collector so the bill is all set - but honestly - what a horrible customer experience.

Experiencia negativa: Two star review due to the wait with open beds in the back and leaving people sick & unwell (in all different cases, bloody, broken legs, waits for almost 12 hours to 24 hours to get a bed) when there’s open beds. You have to wait for them to read you your ultrasounds or anything they’ve just done to you in that way when you can view it on the portal yourself now and see the results and still keep people waiting. If someone chooses to leave due to the wait, they won’t give you any paperwork or even a bed when there are open beds everywhere! They leave people waiting for so long it’s insane. But give people their paperwork when they want to leave/discharge!! Give them that advice to take care of what is going on, it’s not their fault you guys choose to leave people waiting in a packed waiting room for 12-24 hours or more when there are open beds!!!! This use to be the place to go for serious health services and now it’s a doubt to even go here because there is no care to whatever you walk in with. Even if you come fromnan ambulance. I know they still take serious cases first, but still everyone’s cases should be deemed serious in the emergency part. Those people made the decision to come there because they have an emergency. The judgment case by case is sad and the wait time is sad. Again, some people now even second guess on even coming to get help for their health (physical or mental emergency) everyone’s cases are serious coming to an emergency room. Yes you guys must have it stuck in your head “people are coming like it’s a doctors office.” Duh doctors are closed and urgent cares don’t care for things an emergency room would, the doctors even tell you to go to the ER at urgent cares or primary care doctors if they call or message back! So of course people are coming for help that their doctors can’t do or urgent cares. So I’d remove THAT stigma! Also! Watch your patients on your property walk to their cars so they feel safe!!! I’ve had to make sure I talk a loved one on FaceTime or phone call to their car, because how jammed it is, and the times people get released, you guys NEED to make sure EVERYONE gets into their car safely and get to drive out safely!!!!!! You guys know what kinda location you’re in! Some people are scared especially at night being released!!! Or just in general! Make the parking safer! REASSURE YOUR PATIENTS THEY ARE SAFE WHEN WALKING TO THEIR CAR OR OFFER ASSISTANCE TO WALK PATIENTS TO THEIR CARS. VALET PARKING ISNT ALL NIGHT! SO OFFER/HIRE THAT KIND OF ASSISTANCE! YOU GOT! Not hard to get more security on the emergency side!!!!! Again with the portal, you can see your results and they just let you walk out with no papers? What’s up with that? Kinda weird I think. I will say though when you’re in a bed and getting taken care for real after the wait if you can even wait that long, they are good even during the COVID time too if you are STILL WILLING TO WAIT SO LONG. I would upgrade your ways. It’s sad.

Experiencia negativa: There are many issues that my wife and I have had with Baystate, and we're much happier now at another practice. It took forever to get our records transferred. Now, months later, I'm getting notices from a debt collection agency, despite having never received a bill from Baystate. It is unconscionable not to send a bill, and not to allow viewing billing history online.

Experiencia negativa: Worst hospital ever, will never go back to this place since my family has had 2 nightmares that occurred at this hospital. Of course we can't prove anything since the system makes it almost impossible to get hospital records without a lawyer. Lack of care, delays in treatment, and overall lack of knowledge and accountability is prevalent among doctors working for this hospital. We now have doctors at Mercy Medical/Trinity Health and Massachusetts General Hospital and the knowledge and sharing of information is above and beyond compared to Baystate, which couldn't help us with their incompetent neurology and pain management/anesthesia dept. We suffered from their lack of knowledge and it was so difficult to get records or share information with an outside medical group. Baystate's portal is crap, limited information and the sending of records is a joke. Baystate obviously has ALOT of secrets to hide. We had a surprise baby's death from SIDs occur decades ago here, and now paralyzation after an epidural that shouldn't have happened. And most recently, their labwork takes over a week to get processed and TWICE, they lost or messed up my husband's urine sample. Totally, unexceptable, sloppy, uncaring and insane. What happens when you have a serious infection and you have to wait a week for lab results Baystate- your canned response to all the negative reviews telling people to call your Patient Care Dept is disgusting, insensitive and just ignorant. Work at improving your hospital rather than PRETENDING to care with meaningless dribble. For my family, you have gone nowhere in 35years.

Experiencia negativa: Good evening, Message to the employer regarding Shaquan in radiation - Usually not a great experience at Baystate for a multitude of personal reasons, all on file - Our child has gone through numerous bad experiences. Had a glimmer of hope today with Shaquan in Radiation, seemed great/caring which is lost in todays medical profession. He was willing to help me back to the pediatric ER where my child & wife waited for me to bring food back after a long day - 6 hrs, which led to an overnight evaulation while I had to rush home to our 1/5 year old. He was great and helping until he stopped me from entering with my waiting stressed wife and ill child while I held a full bag of food for them. We are frequent fliers for horrible reasons and this young man was great until stopping a tired father who just wanted to care for his family. I said nothing but good on our walk but that mis-judgement was horribly mis-timed. Ps, I'm not some random guy walking the E.R. at midnight. I'm a father of 2, caring for his wife & child as we go through tough times for an illness in our child which is observed at the best in Boston Children's Hospital. This dedication to care for my family has been obtained with a 16 year & counting career at MassMutual. I believe in giving back to the community and it starts with care and understanding. My first intent was to find a way to reward, now I'm left with a horrible feeling that with all the care I give that some random worker can stop me from the wife and Child that I care for through my everyday work. This cannot proceed and I hope for a coaching opportunity to this young individual. -Chris L.

Experiencia positiva: First i went to an urgent care facility whom sent me to the er, I went to their ER on a not so busy day. They got me in to see the Doctor in about 6 hour's. I have major back problems and cannot sit nor stand without having major back spasms and trigger points developing. Every professional there kept asking me why I was there. I gave same response each and every time. I had nonstop projectile vomiting and diarrhea for over 24 hour's. They got the vomiting under control with medication. I was concerned about dehydration as I couldn't keep any water down. And still Doctor kept asking why I came to the er. Seemed pretty condescending to me. Yall need doctor's with a bedside manner. Nurse's where great.

Experiencia positiva: Hi, My name is Lincoln K. Boisseau and unfortunately my wife had a stroke on January 26th and was transported to Baystate ICU on the 27th of January. It was a very difficult and stressful time but I wanted to let Baystate know from the ICU standpoint they are a very capable class act. The Doctors for example Dr. Mercado and I believe his name is Dr. Barnes the PA’s, nurse practitioners such true professionals. We met so many nurses but there were a few that stood out. “Val”, Selena, Haley and Betty. We cannot say enough about these exceptional women. They are what all nurses should strive to be. There was a Nurses aid that needs special recognition and that’s Olga. Olga is such a special caring woman that truly cares for each and everyone she comes in contact with. We don’t really know every department @ Baystate but the ICU sets the bar high for exceptional quality.

Experiencia negativa: It's the worst place you can possibly go to for help. At least the ER portion. Some Dr's there are mediocre, and the security officers are rude /feel entitled because of some authority. Nurses are annoyed for any questions you ask. Even if it's pertaining to a serious medical question, they snap at you. Many hospital staff hide behind policies and procedures for liability reasons, but forget them when it's convenient for them. Not taking into account that people are there because they feel ill and don't have the time to stop and read a pamphlet about hospital rules. I noticed that the hospital looks different/ renovated and changed its entrance and many other areas. In my opinion, Baystate should have used it's money's on hiring new staff, not on its useless art deco. And don't get me started on the patient advocates who never return people's calls. I'm still waiting for a call from three years ago. Yes, I tried many times to explain my concerns to different departments in that hospital , but it seems that to them....."It's never been brought to our attention." (Their word not mine). Again, my opinion might be different from anyone else. The information that was given to me regarding any matter in the hospital is unique to my situation and might be different to anyone else. But yes, all this happened to me!

Experiencia negativa: This hospital is a joke. We have been waiting over 25 hours and still haven't seen a doctor to hear test results. We were told to be patient but have seen over a hundred people come and go, even those that had the same tests done. If you are really sick, go somewhere else. Now 6 days later we are in a room with a roommate who is loud, disruptive and argues with the staff. Trying to change rooms but hadn't been done so far. I am thinking of talking to someone higher on the chain.

Experiencia negativa: I have been here twice, with their minimum of 12 hour wait time, it feels like purgatory and symptoms will overall worsen. Eventually no doctors call anyone back for hours on end. I feel helpless knowing I would not be able to receive medical treatment if I needed it in my life in general now. Feels more like a 3rd world country medical system; possibly worse.

Experiencia negativa: The emergency room is horrible. They will make you literally wait 12 hours. Maybe even more just to see the doctor for 10 minutes. It’s horrible. I don’t even think they deserve 2.8. They deserve like 1.5. The staff is rude they don’t care they sit down and chat amongst each other eating chips and there’s people dying in the hallway. They don’t even have enough rooms for everybody. They’ll wait literally till a certain time to start calling people, like this place needs to fire their whole entire staff and higher people who actually want to work and help sick people

Experiencia negativa: New update: out of the frying pan and into the fire Governor Maura, Healey’s office seems to be able to put a lot of pressure on the hospital to stop giving out real pain medication’s leaving patients in excruciating pain for no good reason other than for the governor to make a political statement This has really gotten to be ridiculous, but I have to blame the opioid addicts that were too weak and cowardly to except responsibility for their own actions, and had to blame everything on the drugs. Now people like myself had 10 surgeries, and never became addicted to opioids are no longer able to get them, and we are left in excruciating pain, because dirt bags went and blamed all their problems on the drugs, rather than accepting responsibility for their own actions. In my case it has been 30 days of 1 to 2 hours of sleep a night due to the pain, you would think the hospital would be worried about sleep deprivation not even to mention that your supposed to get SLEEP to Heal, but this is what happens when politicians are allowed to make hospital policy and when doctors throw the hippocratic oath out the window and simply do what their told without question.

Experiencia negativa: There are maybe some good doctors, nurses and other staff working for Baystate (if they happen to stay there long enough and did not get fired during Covid vaccine mandate), but the hospital has a very faulty and monstrous system in general that makes it impossible to give the patients the time and attention that they need and creates poor communication with the patients' family, that leads to bad outcomes for the patients and their families as well. I hope something changes there in the near future. For Oncology needs I recommend Dana Farber in Boston (outstanding Harvard trained docs), for any neurological emergencies - Hartford Hospital is the place to be, they have great neurosurgeons. Hartford Hospital is much more advanced in every way and in every department. Their ER wait time is also considerably shorter (you can look up their ER wait time online). God bless you and your loved ones, as you navigate the tunnels of current medical system in order to get the help and care that you need.

Experiencia negativa: After my son was treated so badly at Baystate earlier this year, I will bring him elsewhere in the future. We arrived at the hospital around 4pm since my kiddo, who had tested positive for COVID-19 the month prior complained of worsening chest pain while breathing. The first doctor we spoke with was amazing and recommended that he get a chest x-ray to determine what was going on. It all went downhill from there. I explained at least half a dozen times to various folks that my child has severe anxiety in medical settings and is also afraid of loud noises due to a bad experience with an X-ray machine at the dentist. When we were finally called to go to the X-ray room after over three hours, he predictably got upset and anxious over the dark room as well as the noise. He was crying to the point that the technician told us to go back down to the emergency room where someone would bring a portable X-ray machine to his bed. Why this wasn’t done first and foremost is beyond me. When we got back to the emergency room, without having had the X-rays done, a PA named Sara snapped at me and told me I needed to explain to her “what exactly happened up there” in an extremely sarcastic tone. It is incredibly disturbing to me that someone who works in a CHILDREN’S hospital simply could not understand that a child with anxiety and sensitivity to loud noise was afraid of an X-ray machine. While we continued to wait for the portable X-ray machine, three nurses came into the room and attempted to draw blood from my son. Two of the nurses appeared very young and inexperienced but were fairly polite. The third nurse Heather was absolutely awful. She stood in the corner glaring at my son and doing nothing to assist while the other two nurses tried to calm him down to do the blood draw. I have never seen a nurse, or any other adult for that matter, stare at a child with such sheer malice. It was absolutely chilling. Heather has no business working with ill or injured children - this was made obvious by the fact that she had no patience for my anxious child and all but yelled, “WE’LL COME BACK LATER” to take blood before rolling her eyes and stomping out of the room. Not long after, a technician finally came in with the portable X-ray machine. About an hour later another doctor came in and suggested my son take a sedative in order to calm down enough for a blood draw, which we agreed to. Unfortunately, my kiddo experienced awful side effects which included hallucinations, making his anxiety much worse instead of better. When two of the nurses came in again (thankfully not Heather) I relayed that my kiddo was not relaxed as we had hoped, but instead was hallucinating awful things such as a bear in the room, a car driving straight at us and the curtain trying to suffocate him. Since the attempt to relax him with medication had failed miserably, the two nurses as well as myself had to hold him down in order for the blood draw to take place. This resulted in my son crying and screaming uncontrollably as the nurses struggled to draw blood while he continued to hallucinate. After this was finally done, we waited another several hours to finally be told that he had costochondritis. We spent over seven hours here where almost all of the staff treated my child like a pariah simply because he was anxious and afraid. It is extremely disheartening that such a large and well-funded hospital is apparently not training its staff to be able to effectively respond to patients with anxiety and other mental health concerns. I can only imagine how an autistic or intellectually disabled child would have felt in those circumstances. With the exception of Dr. Y and Dr. A who were fantastic, we were beyond disappointed with this experience. Baystate, for the sake of the community you serve, get your staff some better training.

Experiencia fantástica: I broke my forearm in an accident, because who does that on purpose? Went to the ER and they rushed me right in. Didn't even sit in the waiting room. Got vitals checked, x-rays done, and re-bandaged with insurance taken care of. They set me up with a surgical follow-up the next day. They explained what they were going to do easily so that I could understand it. They spoke calmly which helped keep me calm throughout the process. & days later, i was in the operating room. Done and out, titanium plate and 8 screws later, within 8 hours of arriving. 7 weeks in a cast, and 3 1/2 weeks of therapy. No pain! The only pain i experienced was for 18 hours post surgery. No pain meds needed after that, not even tylenol or asprin. Best doctors and surgeon I could ever have hoped for.

Experiencia fantástica: Although the wait time is a challenge, we found the ER first stage admitting personnel to be very, very kind and caring. We actually decided not to proceed onto the next admission after waiting an hour, because my husband was feeling better. Not only did they understand, and not make us feel silly, they actually advised us to feel free to return should the symptoms return. They were willing to help us get a cab home, and answered all of our questions. Thank you Bay State nurses! MD

No one returned my calls or responded to my feedback from their portal. 7/15/23 Having chronic illness and elderly parents, I am unfortunately a frequent flyer. I could write a book on horrible experiences at Baystate. There are good staff and horrible staff, but while I always value & appreciate the good staff. Horrible experiences far outnumber the good ones. Staffing levels, training, apathy, wait times. Even if you get a good Doctor or nurse, patient to staff ratio is abysmal. Dont let their stock responses to your concerns fool you. Patient relations is also apathetic and doesnt return phone calls. Corporate entities could care less. Look at these ratings. Experiencia positiva: This is a review of my stay at Baystate. I had an iv device that ran out and the mouse went on for 6 hours. The poor nurse in charge of that was run off her feet . Her asst anemia was rude abusive lazy and could not replace the iv and I was soaking wet. No other nurse came to help. The leaving a volunteer came to wheel me out. I guess it was too much for him. I was parked at the ee lot. I have mobility issues so bad that I need assistance. He stopped at the curb and would not walk me to my card 100 yards away. I stood there worried how I could get to my car without falling. If it wasn’t for the PARKING VALET kid I’d still be standing there. Teetering. I get the guy didn’t want to take me. I get he was too old and tired but if I could have wheeled myself I would have. I could have sustained injuries but this guy it was like I was in a wheel barrel that he could dump the contents out of, guess once you’re out of the building that’s it.

Experiencia negativa: Worst hospital in western Massachusetts. No urgency for their, wait times are unreasonably very long, staff give off apathetic feel because they really act like patient are not their or acknowledged what’s going on with your well being at all. Is been three hours and no medical attention has been given to my family member.. having a extremely high fever. They make her sit in the waiting room knowing of the fever; anyone in leadership needs to be fired immediately and their procedures need to be revised. And to send a copy and paste automatic response to express to call or send an email concern is unacceptable.. Please visit another hospital. I wouldn’t even give one star only reason is because to send this email.
