Experiencia negativa: Very unprofessional and rude. I had a very bad experience here. Very abusive staff.

Experiencia negativa: I hate giving any UAB facility a poor review, but unfortunately, because of billing, I have to leave Spain Park Rehab a 1 star review, and I wish I could leave a 0 star review. Billing is that bad. I have gone back and forth with my insurance and with the UAB billing team on a dispute I have, which my insurance assures me could be worked out if the UAB billing department only submitted the claims properly, and every single time, when I talk to UAB, they insist they've done it properly. Someone is wrong here, and I tend to believe my insurance company. Meanwhile, I keep getting sent a bill for over $2,000 for a simple foot injection, whic is ridiculous. I've called the billing department and asked for help multiple times, only to be told that I cannot be connected with someone in a leadership position in billing. All I want to do is get my bill straightened out. And nobody at UAB seems able to help. So maybe a negative review will get the attention of the right people. My advice when using Spain Park Rehab - get a prior auth for everything, and have it documented in advanced.

Experiencia negativa: My brother-in-law recently suffered a massive stroke. The Neuro ICU team pushed us to get him admitted to Spain, telling us it was state-of-the-art. I was not impressed. True, it's a new building, and the facilities are nice, but I'm more concerned about the care. Firstly, I felt we were pushed to get him into Spain as quickly as possible. I don't think he was ready for rehab at that point. He was still very lethargic. I believe he should have been kept in the hospital for another week or two before going to Spain. Inpatient rehab time is precious, and I would have preferred saving those paid insurance rehab hours for when he was more alert, but we were pushed by the Neuro ICU team to get him admitted as quickly as possible. Next, I was not overly impressed with the state-of-the-art care. I realize he was massively impacted, but Spain did nothing there that we could not have done at home. They have more PT equipment, but we could have taken him to any gym and done with him what they did. We had to ask for STEM treatments. I saw nothing innovative about what they were doing. Whenever I asked about new developments in stroke care, they seemed unaware. They did the same things that have been done for stroke victims decades ago. I saw no advancements. Additionally, the case workers were terrible. I found more information googling for an hour than they gave us the entire month we were there. They did the absolute minimum of their job requirements. The case workers also gave us incorrect information about what our insurance would pay for. Doctors and therapists were very unempathetic. This is a life-changing event. When my sister broke down (once after being there a month), she was called into a doctors' consult and scolded like she was a child at the principal's office, which, incidentally, sent her spiraling into a bit of a depression. She was grieving the loss of a way of life, and it is hard. She should be allowed to express a little grief and anger at the situation. The way she was treated upset her, her husband and me. It absolutely was detrimental to their stay there. The nursing staff was decent, but we definitely had to stay with our patient most of the time because he would not have been fed hot food or gotten the attention he needed. The other staff at the desk did a minimum amount of work. We even had to wake one of them up once. We went to Spain because we were told it was the best. If it is the best, I am worried for healthcare in Alabama.

Experiencia negativa: Every single visit they continue to throw my profession in my face and at this point I think it's to shame me because I'm sick. I think they go above and beyond to ask me questions like crazy knowing that I have a head injury just to embarrass me. Why? Would they do this. Then a student administers the assessment to me and is helping me!!! And I told them a hundred times not to give me a student. I'd prefer not to be experimented on like a dog. Just give me my treatment!!!!!! And stop prolonging my suffering. I was absolutely humiliated just humiliated embarrassed today and several times.

Experiencia negativa: THEY FALSIFIED MY TEST!!Literally just got home from this place and they botched my test(emg/ncs for those who care). I could see the screen the whole time and she said everything was normal. I believe i have early symptoms of a rare (1 in 1m) disorder where certain triggers(varies by person)can cause all my muscles to seize and I get tremors. The female doctor (I think np) preformed it and she right off the bat mentioned my meds list(as usual) don't come here. THEY FALSIFIED MY TEST!!

Experiencia fantástica: 5 stars for the nurses who cared for my Mother during her heart surgery and recovery only. The reception people are not friendly or helpful at all.

Experiencia positiva: FOR CARRIERS: Construction of load/unload building is nearly complete. One dock is available on 7th Street. Depending on the length of the truck, you may have to drive in backward. Call POC before DEL/PU to confirm dock availability. No parking yard. Limited dock space.

Experiencia fantástica: I was in Spain for about 10 days after being in Huntsville hospital for almost 2 weeks following a motorcycle crash (rear-ended by an inattentive driver). I had pelvic surgery with the insertion of some internal fixators, broken ribs, scalp lacerations , and road rash. I have no complaints with my treatment at Spain. Everyone was professional and attentive, they took excellent care of me. If you or a loved one needs rehabilitation services I highly recommend Spain.

Experiencia fantástica: Spain Rehab. helped me to become Independent going on 43 years now. I learned to live on my own. ( independence can be defined in different ways) Dr. Stover said quality over quantity! I completed my studies at UAB.They not only gave me my life back...they helped me prepare for my journey! Great Rehabilitation Center for Alabama.

Experiencia negativa: Spain rehab does not treat patients according to charted injuries and ignores patient reports of injuries. Currently waiting for CT scan for hearing loss and constant ringing. UAB nurse said “I just see a little wax and blood. It’s probably from a q-tip.” ENT Dr. over a month after discharge saw perforation from temporal bone breaking. All of which could have been identified at UAB. I don’t know if they’re understaffed, under qualified or just don’t care but here I am.

Experiencia negativa: My daughter uses Spain rehab for her Spina Bifida clinic. Each year she goes to clinic to see her three doctors who care for her disability. Today we got to clinic and had our test done. That took about an hour and a half. Pretty normal. Then we were placed in an exam room so she could see her doctors Two hours later I asked how much longer before we would see her doctors. The nurse told me we were next. Her urologist came in about 30 minutes later and I asked how long until we would see her other doctors. She said y’all are not scheduled to see anybody but me. I was very upset because we had been at the hospital 5 hours and in an exam room for 3 hours. I told the nurse we really needed to see the other doctors as she had some very serious health issues this year. She left and came back and said I'm sorry y’all will have to come back next month Both doctors were in clinic seeing patients but wouldn’t see her I have no idea why she wasn’t on the schedule to see the other two doctors because she sees them every year. I feel like my daughter was not as important as other patients and if we had any choice I would go anywhere else. I would like to add the doctor called my daughter this afternoon and apologized which helped our feelings Thank you for taking the time to correct the mistake

Experiencia fantástica: After suffering cardiac arrest and a stroke, our son completed his inpatient rehab here and continues his outpatient therapy. Until his stay in Spain, I had never witnessed such dedication, devotion, and truly caring medical professionals . We all continue to be blessed by this amazing team.

Experiencia negativa: Parking is terrible here today Thursday, June 22, 2023 & to make matters worse, a white UAB car is straddled across 2 of the regular parking spaces out front. We had to park underground in psych parking, hop the curb with a handicapped patient, to get to the elevator, go up then was told we had to go outside to get into Spain Rehab, hop another curb, squeeze handicapped patient between close cars, outside in the heat, get inside the nasty building to the EMG Lab! The restrooms were dirty too. Don't take your loved ones here, it's an unorganized disaster today. The only plus was the exceptionally kind receptionist on 2nd floor EMG registration. What kind of medical facility is this??

Experiencia fantástica: Here is my review for UAB Hospital’s FND Clinic at the Spain Rehabilitation Center. I was thoroughly impressed. I thought this person would say this is purely psychological or something like that. I saw a neurologist named Dr. Victor Mark. He was very nice. He did a thorough examination. He explained that there is not a lot known about this condition. He believes this is definitely a neurological condition. He said you would probably see it right after an episode on an F-MRI. There are also bio chemicals theorized to be related to this. If you are near Alabama, I highly recommend going to this place. He also mentioned something about my skin, I do have Dysautonomia and he said he has seen this skin thing in a lot of other patients as well. It’s where you push down on the skin and it leaves a mark and also where the skin can have discoloration. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Experiencia fantástica: It has been a little more than 2 years since my youngest son had a near fatal head on collision and was air lifted to UAB. He woke up not remembering much about his life or the people in it. He couldn't feel one side of his body and he was bruised black all down one side and portions of the other. My son is 6'4" tall and played football. He was confused and difficult for the staff to handle. But they were always kind and patient. I have thanked God over and over again for this place and the standard of excellence they adhere to. From the beginning they were on top of things and not just one nurse ,dr,or physical therapist was excellent, ALL of them were. They were great with my son and they were helpful to our family. This is by far the very best place to go . Every specialist that I have encountered is dedicated to helping their patient get better as quickly and painlessly as possible. Today my son has all feeling in his body, and he is able to do everything he was before. The head injury he sustained in the accident was handled so quickly and expertly that he is not missing any of his memories and his ability to learn and personality have not diminished at all. I feel overwhelmed with emotion and grateful from the bottom of my heart for these people . They are heros every day. And I would recommend this hospital to everyone.

Experiencia negativa: My daughter was a patient there 2 weeks ago I was visiting her but I fell after I helped her with bathing. No one came in to check, finally I open room door to tell nurse I fell and my head was bleeding. I was trying to be brave and take care of my daughter. One nurse gave me her personal Tylenol other nurse said she heard a loud bang. My first question is if ya heard a loud noise why didn't you check? Second why did you not treat me? It was a head injury? So, all I get is a t-shirt but no medical treatment. I've been having bad headaches since fall I went to local hospital last night no much help there either. I'm so disappointed.

Experiencia negativa: very disapointed. these people could have helped me keep my disability benefits but instead chose to make it impossible.Im not a neurologist but could see my own brain damage on my mri disc. yet these people made it impossible. If you think theyre competent your in for a sad suprise

Experiencia fantástica: I can not say enough good about this place. It truly saved my life. Showed me how to walk again. The internet inpatient physical therapist was the best. My nurses was very professional and took really good care of me.

Experiencia fantástica: Overall the rehab was fantastic. The staff on the unit were competent and caring. Multiple days of understaffing and we encountered multiple issues with lack of common sense. The understaffing created some major issues with falling and the unit manager did not seem to be concerned. Do not leave your loved one alone. The therapists were awesome! My suggestion would be to be sure to have ample staff both nursing and patient care tech's so that no patient has to fall to get to the bathroom so they won't soil the bed because they were given medication at an inappropriate time.

Experiencia fantástica: This facility is awesome!! Great staff, that works with you, & is very compassionate! Would recommend this facility to anyone at any age! Very knowledgeable!! God Bless them!!

Experiencia negativa: Good at putting a bandaid (meds) on a wound but not at what caused the wound (condition) to start with. Top psyc's seem to have their own social agenda. Just my experiences and my opinion. Good luck to all that enter.

Jennifer Poole 10 years ago

Experiencia positiva: The therapist are awesome with excellent personalities! The knowledge on how to treat their patients are wonderful and my daughter excelled at recovery! I would recommend Spain to anyone! As for nursing staff do not expect any sleep on nights with certain ones there cause they are louder than a rock concert with no respect for sleeping patients and family! Bring ear plugs for sure!
