Experiencia fantástica: I’m a grandmother! I loved playing with my grands, working in the garden, and going hiking. However, my 70 year-old arthritic knees were seriously limiting how active I could be. I was tired of it! Short story: I got connected with The Total Joint Physical Therapy and Anna Grace…who subsequently literally walked me through prehab and rehab for 2 Total Knee Replacements(TKR) in 2025! I’ve returned to the gym 2 days a week, and am walking 20-30 minutes a day with NO knee pain! It’s been only 4 months since the 2nd TKR! I’m so thankful for Anna Grace’s encouragement, patience, and wisdom through the entire healing and process. She helped me stay focused! As you can tell, I cannot recommend The Total Joint Physical Therapy enough! A caring, professional, and highly qualified team.

Experiencia fantástica: Jimmy Dunn and his wife Kimberly have created an environment for physical therapy that deserves a 5 star rating. Following spinal surgery for a complication of scoliosis and a later shoulder injury, The Total Joint became almost like a second home to me. Jimmy has the personality to encourage and inspire and his carefully selected staff are gifted with those qualities also. Care is strictly one on one, so you have the undivided attention of a therapist who is observing your every movement and providing helpful information. The staff is delightful and I found every visit to be pleasant and uplifting.

Experiencia fantástica: Kimberly helped me heal from a year old knee injury that had stopped me from really being able to do all the things I love. after a few months, I was back on my bike, hiking, and doing yoga. Highly recommend to anyone needing some physical therapy.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m disabled due to surviving a stroke which left me with a weak left leg and a non functioning left arm so when I had surgery on my functional right shoulder I was devastated. I play one armed golf, which I am quite passionate about, so the recovery journey was critical to my general wellbeing. The folks at Total Joint developed a plan that aligned with my physical goals and equally importantly aligned with my insurance coverage. 4months later I have been cleared by the surgeon to return to golf, The whole team at Total Joint are largely responsible for getting me to where I am, I recommend them with no hesitation!

Max has been an integral part of my Lyme Disease journey by helping me work on the mobility and strength that I had lost during a 3 year journey of navigating Lyme. He was very patient with me from day one — taking time to listen to what Lyme looks like for my body specifically and he has been so gracious on the days we need to really scale back or even the days I need to cancel because my body just needs 100% rest/recovery. Every visit he asks how the last week has been and adjusts that days protocol to best serve my body. Max made me feel safe in an intimidating environment and has helped me take baby step after baby step to see great improvement in mobility and strength. We are still on the journey, but my confidence in my body is growing and he’s encouraging me along the way. BUT the best part about all of this is your therapist is 1-on-1 with you your entire appt - no bouncing from patient to patient! So thankful for Total Joint!

Experiencia fantástica: If you want a great result from PHYSICAL THERAPY you need to fo to The Total Jiont, where you will receive the best cake aans compassion for your injury. I have had may place I've been but never as good as Jimmy gave me. He is highly recommend my many doctors because he is what good. I went to the other side of town to get there and it was well worth the trip. I very highly recommend you go there,, you will get better fast than you are expected to.

Experiencia fantástica: I was probably on the road to recovery before coming to The Total Joint, but I've been so grateful being able to work with them. I hurt my back lifting weights and it was physically painful to sit in a chair. Unfortunately, I have a desk job so that's the majority of my day. We started off with a completely non-judgemental history and came up with goals and we were off to the races with a plan to get back to deadlifting. The plan has evolved as I have evolved. Jimmy Dunn is an incredible coach. He's unobtrusive when helping you learn a new movement and lets you feel it out first. But if you need help, his cues are excellent and he seems to know exactly what to say to unlock the ability to do an exercise correctly. The rest of the staff is lovely as well. I get kind of anxious before going in because physical therapy is something that could be awkward, but the people that work here are all just so friendly and make you feel like you're part of a family. I'll be sad when it's time to "graduate" and be done with PT here. So I'm writing a review to hopefully encourage others to come here. If you have an ailment or you're unsure about physical therapy - come see the fine folks at The Total Joint. Try it out. Take it seriously, do your homework. You'll be glad you did!

Experiencia fantástica: I had severe pain that developed in my abdomen while being treated for something else and both Max and I couldn’t figure out what was causing it. Max suggested I touch base with my surgeon, but instead I called the therapist who worked with me from the beginning when I first had gotten my stimulator implant done. His suggestion to call the company was very helpful. I called, took their advice and it worked. Thank you Max for your guidance and help.

Experiencia fantástica: After an orthopedics practice told me I would never again jog without pain, I went to The Total Joint. During the initial consult with Anna Grace (and Jimmy), I knew I had come to the right place! They set realistic goals and expectations while crafting a plan to get me back to my usual activities. After working with Anna Grace for 8 weeks, I'm pain-free most days, including the days I go jogging! So lucky to have such fun, friendly, and skilled physical therapists in my neighborhood! Experiencia fantástica: I struggled with knee pain for a while and eventually saw a doctor about it. After being referred to PT, I chose The Total Joint because it was so near my house. I'm so glad I did! The team in this office are so friendly and knowledgeable, and were able to narrow down the root causes of my knee pain and treat them accordingly. I can now get up off the floor pain-free and unassisted after playing with my kids, and I plan on continuing the exercises I learned. If you're looking for a neighborhood PT that's warm and inviting and cares about you as a person instead of just getting you in and out the door in 45min, this is the place for you! Experiencia fantástica: Would give them 10 stars if I could. Ellen was referred to me from PT I saw multiple times through the years in Montgomery. I came to her with a torn labrum (shoulder) and a fear of needing a surgery to fix it. I am 28 years old, and over the past 15 years I have had 3 knee surgeries (ACL/permanent Saphenous Nerve damage) and a major shoulder surgery (7 anchors in my other Labrum). I came to Ellen upset and concerned with what my future looked like doing the things I love to do - golf, guitar, hunting, and fishing. I was sad and afraid of having to go "under the knife" again. She always went the extra mile for me, which gave me confidence in trusting her process, and hopeful to come away from this injury without a surgery. After a few months of seeing her 1-2 times a week, and doing my at home exercises most other days, I am able to swing a golf club, play guitar, and most importantly - SLEEP GREAT AGAIN with no pain whatsoever. My 15-year battle with injuries hasn't been the easiest, but Ellen and the entire staff at The Total Joint helped me realize the significance of a tailored PT plan, and how anyone can overcome a life of pain with the right tools and instruction. My surgeon was going to send me to a group they used, but so glad I went to Total Joint. My therapists were Kimberly & Ellen. I loved everyone there— felt like “ family”. Went in feeling a little unsure, as I had never done any kind of PT before but the whole process was super effective. She helped me understand ways I might be triggering my pain issues and I learned several exercises I can continue doing at home to prevent future issues. Highly recommend Total Joint.

Experiencia fantástica: I wish I could give MORE than 5 Stars for The Total Joint. My experience was off the charts! I came in with a back and hip issues that my docs couldn’t figure out. Not only did Ellen and Jimmy figure it out, they fixed it. I no longer have mobility issues with my leg or pain in my back. The best part about The Total Joint? Personal care. You work 1:1 with the PT and they are totally focused on you. They don’t have a “checklist” dictating your treatment, but make changes and adjustments to fit your needs. In summary: Great care and great people.

I was a little uncertain about PT, because I didn't have an acute injury--I just knew I had some serious mobility weaknesses and wanted to get help before a serious injury occurred. Ellen is a wonderful PT, and every single staff member at Total Joint was an absolute pleasure to interact with. If I ever need PT again, I'll definitely be coming back to The Total Joint!

Experiencia fantástica: When I broke my leg in a motorcycle crash, I needed PT. I asked my Facebook community who I should use. Most people suggested one of the bigger practices, but one person said The Total Joint. They said Jimmy Dunn was fantastic. Well, he is. Good knowledge of anatomy (and can explain it all thoroughly), friendly, patient and just a good guy all around. The space is open and the music is to my taste. It's a small and burgeoning practice, and they're going to do well because of the level of care and genuine concern for my (your) recovery.

Experiencia fantástica: I started working with Dr. Jimmy on my strength and balance in August, after a knee injury earlier in the summer. I love that we do a mix of unique exercises in the office, but also a number of things I can practice at home. I love the individual attention and care I get at the Total Joint; Dr. Jimmy is very thoughtful, with a calming personality, and he clearly explains things and answers all of my questions. He's worked with me on a payment plan and has been nothing but accommodating and helpful. I would recommend this practice to anyone seeking physical therapy in the Birmingham area! Dr. Jimmy really cares about his work and patients.

Also I really love the homework app & the dry needling!

He explains things on the appropriate level and also has one of those subtle senses of humor that makes you want to pay extra close attention to what he's saying.
