But there’s another connection that I think is of vital importance, and it’s more subtle and personal. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and the EW community who I rely on, consistently identifies my unpredictable challenges, so I leave the gym or studio better than when I arrived.

Experiencia fantástica: After standing in my kitchen on Christmas day 2023 crying because my back hurt so badly, I knew something had to change. At age 61, I had been trying to fix it on my own by working out harder through the pain. Now, even walking was a chore. I saw a physician who diagnosed my problem as “muscular” with tight muscles compensating for weak ones (especially in my hip) and I was sent to physical therapy. My PT (Caroline) started slowly, providing simple exercises and stretches, eventually adding Pilates to the mix. When PT ended, I continued weekly Pilates (with Caroline as the instructor) and Strength Training with classes (with Linsday) at EW FIT. It is now September 2024. I am stronger, back to walking 4-5 miles a day, and lost 20 pounds as a bonus. While I am not pain free, it is significantly improved. I really feel EW Motion Therapy has my back

It took a bad experience, on my part, to happen into a great experience at EW. 2 times of injuring my shoulder, brought me 2 times to EW and care from Katherine Strong. She is a real Gem and was an awesome therapist to help me recover. She knows the right exercises to prescribe and that made all the difference for me. A truly magnificent coach and an even better person. Although I am ding my best to never have to go back to EW, if I reinjure myself, I will ask for her. I hope she has a marvelous career in this specialty.

EW has many good therapists, but when Jason moved from Homewood I followed him to liberty Park because he a knowledgeable and skilled therapist. I was pleasantly surprised by Zoe who is their friendly receptionist and scheduler. Lily is new to EW Motion, and is sure to do well. I have had a wonderful experience at EW Motion in liberty Park and highly recommend it.

They have helped me recover and strengthen several muscle groups. I was in chronic pain before I came, but I now feel much better and stronger!

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve been coming to EW since April, 2022, after a complete knee replacement. I’ve had trouble with my right knee since being a teenager. I’m in my mid-sixties now. I had tried all the different types of shots for both knees, and they would work for awhile. Last year, I decided to have the right knee replaced. My doctor at the time told me I’d need to wait at least 6 months after my last steroid shots because new reports said that if surgery was sooner it might lead to infection. I was scheduled for the surgery to be done on 3/31/22. It went well, and I left the hospital the next day. I did all of the exercises I was given - both before and after the surgery - then came to EW about 2 weeks at home. My therapist, James, listened well and helped me continue what I had started. Things were going really well - I had transitioned from a walker to a cane, and was even trying to drive again. James looked at my incision site and had me send photos to my doctor. He was concerned because one place, about the size and shape of an almond, hadn’t closed. I went to my follow-up doctor’s visit and she was out of town. I saw her PA, though, and he echoed what James had said about cleaning the wound and closing it again. I was scheduled for surgery the next week when she returned. I thought it was just outpatient surgery. No. I woke up in a hospital bed and the real ordeal began. I was told that my knee was so infected that they had to clean everything out and then they would keep me there and on antibiotics for a few days. By Friday, they were ready for me to go home. I had a wound vac to draw off blood. I was scheduled to have my first of sixty days worth of infusions starting the next day. The pump malfunctioned - became clogged - but I was able to get the first infusion into the PICC line they had inserted. However, I was told to just disconnect the pump and see my doctor on Monday. By the time I saw the doctor on Monday, I had on 4 Ace bandages and an entire roll of gauze. When they cut through that, they found that the entire incision had opened was flayed open. My new doctor in the practice immediately sent me to Grandview and I was admitted. The new knee was removed, and a “spacer” knee was placed there. In other words, I didn’t have a real knee at all in that leg. The patient relations person came to the room to ask whether I was going to have home health care, or go to a skilled nursing facility. My husband and I were shocked - we had no idea where or whether to do either, and we had about an hour to decide. I wound up going to a skilled facility because I had no idea how to deal with the new “pseudo-knee.” I stayed there for right at 2 weeks. Since I was only supposed to put toe-touch weight on that leg, I was in a wheelchair for the duration. When they discharged me to go home, I had to have a wheelchair. We had some furniture issues, so I wound up in the chair from the last week of May until 9/21 when they again did surgery on that leg. During that time, my husband had to inject my PICC with heparin and had to attach my “bulb” of antibiotics to it as well - every day for 60 days. I had some problems, too, with scheduling this last surgery. I was scheduled for 8/3, but there was one pinhole spot that hadn’t closed. Then it gapped to 8/31 - UTI, so no surgery. Then 9/7 - UTI still there. Final date - 9/21 - success! I’m now back with EW, trying to regain the mobility I had. James and Kelsey as well have really helped me to get back on track. James knows I’m terrified of falling and so keeps me well-attended as I’m walking or doing exercises. EW is a great place for rehab because they stay with you as you are working out or walking. Other places I’ve been just turn you loose to work by yourself after a couple of weeks. Not here! Also, all of the staff I’ve encountered have been friendly, polite, and very positive. They really make you feel that they are wishing the best for you. That’s the best thing!
