STEPS for Recovery

Experiencia fantástica: As a therapist myself (I'm an Occupational therapist - OT) Steps for Recovery was recommended by other therapists that I know as I had a spinal cord injury. I have been working with both Physical Therapists (PT) and OT’s for the last 2 years. As a result, I’m steadily progressing and am very pleased. My husband has also seen that this team is focused on my specific needs and they consistently change up the program as my needs have fluctuated. I highly recommend this practice for those with neurological deficits.

Experiencia fantástica: My mother suffered a severe stroke 9 months ago. It affected her ability to walk, speak, and just about all other aspects of her life. She was a very energetic individual, exercising daily, eating well, and just living a healthy lifestyle. The stroke took just about everything from her. It honestly looked quite grim. Several medical personnel had serious doubts about what, if anything, she could get back. Some Physical and Occupational Therapists that we encounter d also shared those same doubts. I personally found it difficult to accept simply because I could see the sheer determination within my mother. I could see and feel her "never give up" energy. I couldn't give up on her. Then, I found STEPS for Recovery. Not knowing what to expect, and fearing the worst, I was fortunate enough to meet some truly amazing therapists who saw potential in my mom. This was foreign to me. I almost didn't know how to react to all the positivity these people were showing towards my mother. They all believe in her. They challenge her. They push her. They have taken the time to really get to know her. She is treated with great care and respect. It's been 5 months now since we first stepped foot into STEPS for Recovery, and my mother has come a long way! 5 months ago, she was discharged from a SNF that stated she needed to go to a nursing home. We fought this, and an assisted living facility took a chance on her. With the care provided by her therapists at STEPS for Recovery, I am proud to report that she was able to return back to her own home! She has made remarkable gains and continues to make more. Her journey through stroke recovery is not over, but she is even beginning to walk again. This was unimaginable 5 months ago. Her therapists treat her like family! They have gone out of their way, helping her to get an ultralight wheelchair that allowed her better mobility, lent her several pieces of equipment to aid recovery, and provided us with a magnitude of ideas for exercising between therapy sessions. They have taken the time to brainstorm solutions in an effort to improve my mom's quality of life. They also do their very best to work within my schedule and get my mother in as often as they can. It's so refreshing to see such flexibility and willingness to accommodate. This is lost in so many businesses today, but not here! I can't express my grateful I am to all these wonderful therapists (Katie, Lauren, Morgan, and Ashley). If you are looking for Physical, Occupational, or Speech therapy, you can stop your search! They have not met my expectations. They've EXCEEDED them!! Out of all the decisions that I've made since my mother's stroke, coming to STEPS for Recovery was by far the best one!

Experiencia negativa: If I could, I would leave zero stars, but I must in-order to write this review. My husband made an appointment for me in June 2024 while I was visiting my sister in Germany. When we arrived to check in the first words out of the woman’s mouth at the counter was “Are you American”. Before I could answer she responded to her own question saying that “no you’re not American”. She then asked if I had an ID then responded to her own question, again before I could answer, saying “you don’t not have an ID or any documents”. The first thing she should have asked for was my insurance card. I was so in shock of this racial profiling that I left the office, got in my car and cried. I am an Iraqi born naturalized citizen living in the US for over a decade. Prior to coming to the US I served as an interpreter with American ground forces conducting combat operations in Iraq. Healthcare providers are supposed to provide care to people regardless of race or gender. I feel like I was interrogated by a racist staff for being middle eastern. Until this day I never personally received an apology from the office or the manager.

The amount of time, quality, detailed observations, explanations, systematic approach, logical reasoning, and great attitudes is exceptional. I've been able to get out of a lot of pain with their help when other pt locations weren't working for me. This place is a gem.

Experiencia fantástica: Over the last five months, I've been a caregiver for a gentleman suffering from a traumatic brain injury. He has attended physical, occupational, and speech therapy two times a week at STEPS for Recovery in Cary, NC. He has made significant progress in all areas. He has successfully transitioned from a wheelchair, walker, and cane to walking without an assistive device. After a recent progress review, Ashley, his physical therapist set up an independent at home exercise program for him. He will check in with her after a month to reevaluate his status. All his therapists including Rachel his OT and Morgan his ST have worked diligently to provide an integrated plan of care for him. This would not have been the case without their outstanding teamwork and communication. I believe his therapists went above and beyond to create this integrated program for him based solely on his individual needs.

Experiencia fantástica: I’m so glad I found this place. After my first week here I had similar thoughts to what I see in the other reviews. Godsend, home, family. I wish I’d known about this place 6 months ago when I left the hospital after having a stroke. I’m just glad I learned about them at all. They immediately had ideas about how to help with things my last place was “stumped” by, and they explained it all and I saw immediate changes and finally have some hope again. They are kind, respectful, collaborative, extremely knowledgeable, dedicated to patient care - and they are gifted therapists as well. I can already tell that this place is exactly what I need.

Experiencia fantástica: STEPS is incredible. I've been meeting with Josh on Postural Restoration and my only regret is that I didn't start this 5 years ago. I've seen close to 7 specialists for TMJ, chest, back, shoulder and sciatic nerve pain...literally in 2 appointments with Josh a majority of the pain had gone away and not just temporarily. Postural Restoration is some very complex rehab but posture misalignment is a complex problem. Josh has been extremely patient and thorough in educating me and been all around a pleasure to work with. I owe this clinic a lot! Years of pain resolved quickly and they're invested in you seeing the permanent improvement. Thanks Josh and STEPS for Recovery!

Experiencia fantástica: I can't say enough good things about Josh - i came here with a lot of pain due to TMJ and bad posture/misalignment. He explained what was going on in a lot of detail, teaches exercises as well as every day changes in posture to practice and makes sure you understand. I feel better in weeks with simple changes. The place is also taking all precautious during this time against coronavirus and makes you feel really safe/well cared for. Highly recommend. and thank you.

Experiencia fantástica: I am not sure where to start. STEPS for recovery truly lives up to its name. I have been working with Josh since last June after my entire body basically fell apart. I lived in chronic pain (neck, arms, shoulders, low back, hips, feet) for nearly two years and was seen by countless specialists, including four other physical therapists, before I found myself at STEPS in June of 2018. When I first arrived, I felt as though I was stranded on a sinking lifeboat in the middle of a hurricane, desperately searching for a rescue. I am very fortunate I was recused by Josh, a physical therapist who practices something called postural restoration. I like to think of postural restoration as a scientifically sound, holistic approach to physical therapy. Unlike other therapists and providers I saw before coming to STEPS, Josh sees me as an entire person rather than a number of independent parts. He takes time to LISTEN to me and makes me feel like I matter. He makes me feel like I'm a real person, not just another statistic. Josh has been instrumental in helping me identify the root cause of my pain and has helped facilitate a number of crucial steps in my journey to healing. When I first arrived at STEPS, I was grasping for a thread of hope. I couldn't sit comfortably for longer than 30 mins, I couldn't walk up stairs, I could barley walk 1/4 mile on flat ground. I couldn't get laundry out of the washing machine, I couldn't sweep or mop my house, I couldn't do a lot of basic activities. And I was only 30 years old! I am so grateful to say I am now well on my way to a complete recovery. In the past 10 months, I have regained the ability to do all these things and am truly learning to live again! I cannot say enough good things about STEPS for Recovery! This place has changed my life! If you're in your own hurricane and looking for a lifeline, call them! It's one of the best things I've ever done!

Experiencia fantástica: They are the best, I feel the best I’ve ever felt since sustaining many injuries seemingly all at once. This because I know how I am supposed to move for the first time. Still a work in progress but my back barely hurts anymore and other ailments are coming along as well. The wholistic approach to why you hurt vs. simply treating the injury itself is the key. You have to work to feel better, they show you how!

Experiencia fantástica: Postural restoration physical therapy is making so much sense and Josh works well with my teenage son, so he can get back to playing baseball pain free. Josh has even spent time talking to his coach about my son’s current situation and what plan he is creating with my son. We are hopeful this is exactly what my son needed and was the missing link.

Experiencia fantástica: I had chronic pain in my neck and upper back for years. Saw many physical therapists that could only help temporarily. Was great to have a PT that looks at the whole body, not just what hurts. The only PT to make significant progress with resolving my pain!

My right side was totally impacted and my speech partially. I am walking alone and have full range of motion in my arm In just one year! I may not be back to normal but I am well on my way! Experiencia fantástica: It's heart wrenching to be told that you have reached your peak and no further therapy is necessary. It happens everyday from a therapist that doesn't specialize in brain injury. (It happened to me) Traumatic Brain Injury recovery is a life time process. Its amazing to me the progress that is made after other therapist gave up. (what does that tell me... Give up!) But I wasn't the type to give up and I was told about Steps for Recovery. Its amazing to me the progress that I am making... Thanks Steps for Recovery.. clearly the right name.. Steps FOR Recovery.
