Experiencia negativa: Neglectful & dangerous place! Sorry this is a long read but important. August 2023. My mom had severe Alzheimer's and was a high fall-risk. My aunt kept calling for an update on the day my mom arrived at the Laurels. Everytime she called, someone would tell her they'd go check and call her back. She talked to the director, still the same thing, "let me call you right back", with no call back. By that night, my aunt called me hysterically screaming and crying "Please go get her!" My mom had arrived around 9am. Someone on night shift finally told my aunt around 11pm that my mom had been left alone in her new room by day shift, with the door shut, as to deter her from wanting to leave even though she was a fall-risk. We were told that "she was found ASLEEP on the floor, between her wheelchair and the bed about 30 minutes after she arrived. The person that found her "noticed bruising" and since they didnt know how long it had been there and no one to confirm if she had actually fallen or if she just got out of her wheelchair and laid down on the cold concrete floor to sleep"..."they decided to send her to a hospital to get checked out" !!! What?! Read that again! She was then taken to an ER by ambulance (not the one next door! one in downtown Dayton, 25 minutes away). Once we tracked down what hospital she was in we were told that she arrived at the hospital alone with no contact information, or medical history. This would mean that she had been at the hospital off her heart meds for A-fib, thyroid meds, Alzheimer's and anxiety meds for 14 hours..as a Jane Doe! When we asked the Laurels to explain why she was sent to the hospital with no contact information, no medical history, nothing they kept blaming the transporting EMT's from earlier that morning saying they didnt leave any paperwork for her. Which is an absolute lie! How can you do intake/accept a new resident without a paperwork handoff? And no explanation as to why were lied to all day! I was so upset, I packed an overnight bag and drove an hour (around midnight) to stay at the nursing home with my mom that night. When I arrived she was, again, in her room alone with the door shut, she was slumped in a recliner, not in bed, she had 2 pairs of rubber gloves on, 2 masks, -they said she was Covid+, (I stayed with her for a week, taking care of her with no mask and never had a covid vaccine and never got covid) they gave her something to sedate her to the point she was almost comatose, her head was hanging down to her chest, she couldn't open her eyes or lift her head, she couldn't speak, just moan. It was so sad. She did not go into the Laurels like that. I had to lift her into her bed. I kept my hand on her to make sure she was breathing because her breathing was so shallow. She was covered in bruises, her entire left side was black and blue, all up and down her arm, leg, hip, her side, and had a big bruise on the side of her head. I sat crying watching her breathing for a while. While sitting there after midnight trying to get some sleep in the recliner I heard moaning next door, it kept going on and then I heard a man saying what I thought was "Helen" so I thought he had Alzheimers too and was just calling out for a loved one. It kept going on and he was closer to the nurse's desk than we were so I thought they'd handle it. I know that's the sad reality with Alzheimer's patients, calling out for loved ones that are no longer with us. But this went on long enough that I checked the clock and listened for 15 minutes, then I decided I'd peek out the door just in case someone actually did need help and then it was clear he was saying "Help." I went to the next room and there was an elderly man, completely naked, who had fallen on the floor, and was calling for help. There were 4 people at the desk. 4! I yelled to them "HE'S ON THE FLOOR!" They came running and as they were helping him up a man looked at me with a face (like what are you looking at?) and said "we've got it!" I stayed with my mom until I could get her moved to another facility the next day.

Experiencia fantástica: I spent some time recovering at The Laurels Of Huber Heights. I can tell you from first hand experience that the staff is accommodating compassionate and yet professional. Of course such people go a long way toward giving the facility a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. When you add the excellent cleanliness of the building it becomes a great place to stay.

Experiencia negativa: They hold you there as if you are a prisoner. Refused to send to the hospital despite asking multiple times. Told they are giving you better care than the hospital would. Also told that they were doing everything a hospital would do which couldn't be farther from the truth. By the time we got our loved one to the hospital, after demanding they go or we threatened to call 911 ourself, he passed away 2 weeks later. Avoid this place, at all cost.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible!!! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Absolutely no updates on my dad. Two times my Dad needed to go to the ER and we were told he was fine and it was pointless to send him. My Dad was sent to the Emergency room because WE called the squad (both times) and he is now fighting for his life!!! When I asked if I could speak to my dad I was told he’s tired and he’s been in a great mood though.. Thank God we went with our gut and called the Squad! Staff was horrible, only one nurse was very nice! Don’t send your loved one to this place.

Experiencia negativa: Please do not put your family member in this building. it is a shame its in huber heights!! this ghetto nursing home with ghetto staff! sounds like a club when u first walk in blasting the music! the management team refuses to help the floor staff. they do not even use soap to change people! the front office people curse and scream in the hallways no need to tell DON or Admin because they will not do a darn thing state should be called for how short staff they are and don’t give ur loved ones any money because staff members steal from The patients

Experiencia negativa: Laurels has it's issues and they need some work. When your loved one goes in to the nursing or rehab section just stay on the facility. My aunt was sent out to hospital and when she came back her room had been ransacked and things taken. If your loved one needs meds let them know ahead of time it could take an hour or more to receive it. Call bell not answered while family is on phone waiting with loved one. Everyone has different experiences but my aunt didn't have a good one this time and the first time wasn't so great either.

Experiencia fantástica: My 25 year old daughter is recovering at The Laurels, Huber Heights, Ohio from a very serious brain injury. I was told by the staff at the hospital that she might like going there. They were absolutely correct. The Speech Therapist has worked miracles with her. When she came in she wasn't able to talk, she now can communicate both verbally and in writing, TOTALLY AMAZING. The nurses and staff, have been a God send to me, they are always making sure she is taken care of. The Physical Therapy / Occupational Therapy teams have done a GREAT job of getting her to get some of her core strength back and hopefully will be able to walk by late summer, early fall. I live 1200 miles away, knowing that the great care she is getting allows me to sleep well. In closing, I would recommend the Laurels, Huber Heights to anyone that is looking for a facility to help a loved one recover.

Experiencia negativa: My father was neglected, there was feces left on the floor to dry and on his clothes as well. He was not cleaned up or fed properly. He barely got any water and didn’t even have a functioning remote to his television. ZERO STARS!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE.

But they had the room for my cousin just this year. I'm so over and done with ever trying to get a family member in here. They weren't that great with my cousin either.

Experiencia negativa: This place isn't fit for any human being. My mom was put in there for a broken leg. The very first night she got there nobody came to see her for 40 minutes and when they did the person didn't speak English very well and started grabbing her broken leg and moving it. My mom had a catheter and they didn't empty it for 17 hours. It was backing up inside of her. The food was disgusting. She had to give herself a bedbath. It took them an hour for them to bring a bed pan for her to have a bowel movement. Then, she asked a nurse to wipe around her catheter and while wiping she took her catheter out without telling my mom. My mom called me saying she thinks they took her catheter then had a male nurse look to find out that the lady took it out. Me and my father went to my mom's room and then the nurse that took it out came in as two other nurses gave her a bath to talk about what had happened. She then said she had a doctors order to take it out so she just did. I asked why she didnt tell my mom it was being taken out. She said it was already coming out. I asked if she saw it coming out why didnt she tell my mom so my mom then knew its no longer there. Then she started getting a hateful attitude with me saying that it already came out so there was no reason to tell her that it did. The nurse started to completely fight with me. I was just wondering why my mom wasn’t being told what was happening to her. They came at dinner time to take my moms tray from lunch and didn't give her dinner because they thought she already ate. The kitchen staff were already gone when we told them she needed dinner. The nurses had to go in and make her food themselves. My mother has heart failure so shes on a strict diet of low salt and what they made her was things filled with salt. Grilled cheese and potato chips both being over her salt intake for one day. They leave dirty gloves everywhere. one nurse was a male nurse went and just threw his gloves on the floor next to the toilet and one leaving them on her table.

Experiencia negativa: This place should be shut down! I was there from a Friday until Monday morning and I still have nightmares. I had an air mattress with no air, could never reach a call button, couldn’t control the TV, couldn’t turn my lights on and off, didn’t get my pain medicine until next morning because they rushed all my prescriptions but that one. When I was admitted they took all my belongings and wrote my name on them even though I was only there for a couple of days and they weren’t to do my laundry. The food was so bad they wouldn’t open the lid, so I DoorDashed food which could sit outside for an hour. Come Monday morning I was out of there and at which time I was told by an administrator I was there for like 100 days. I was on the phone with my surgeon right away and it wasn’t long the administrator was called out of my room and never came back and I was gone. I reported them and should everyone else. I treat my dog better than I was treated. The place should be shut down!!!

Experiencia positiva: Cheryl Minney is an excellent NP The Therapy Dept is Top Notch. The Nursing Care and Dietary not so much. Jim had two showers during his entire stay. When I asked about his shower, I would be told when his shower days were but he never got them. Also, he didn't get his clothes changed. His food was cold when he got it, most of the time. The staff was friendly and kept him supplied with ice, which he appreciated. And, he really appreciated that the dog could visit.

Experiencia negativa: Worse place ever. These people should be ashamed of themselves. My father was there for a little while for rehab after suffering a hip fracture. Staff was okay but not the best. Food arrived always cold and needed to be heated. He was only supposed to be there for 2 weeks. Eventually they had a case of Covid there at the facility and it seemed it was business as usual. There were no protocols set in place after the first case and it spread and my father eventually caught Covid. Staff and the director never notified the family on his condition and we went a few time to visit and noticed his condition decreasing markedly and was concerned. Luckily when I went to visit I took precautions and was always wearing a mask a week beforehand. He was placed in another room with another patient who had Covid. I went to visit not knowing any of this until after the fact and had to isolate myself. I couldn't go out to visit for about 7 days and his condition got worse to the point he had to be transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Suffice to say his back home under care. I would definitely think twice on selecting this facility.

Experiencia negativa: My mother-in-law was at The Laurels for about 3 days, post knee-replacement. On the second night, she called, frantic, after 10PM because someone put her on the potty after numerous calls to the front desk (she had already wet herself by that time), but no one came back to get her back to her bed. She called them so many times with no help that she finally called my wife to come and help her (we live about 5 minutes away). When we arrived, the bed was not changed (wet and cold), she had an enormous ring around her bottom, her legs were asleep, and she was highly distressed. The next day, we came in to find her in a highly altered state of consciousness, sweating, thirsty and confused. It was after we brought this to the nursing staff’s attention that someone there finally said that if it were her mother, she would ask to have her transferred back to the hospital. We did; it took hours. It turns out that she had gone septic. I am not a nurse, but it took me about 5 minutes to recognize the signs of shock, or at least that something was gravely wrong. She had been there about 48 hours, supposedly attended to by trained medical staff… Long story short, she passed away about two weeks later. The only reason I did not go after this place hammer and tong (legally speaking) is because the sepsis was brought on by something unrelated to the surgery and in hindsight, I don’t think she would have survived even if she had been identified in the hospital before she was released to the Laurels. I stress that this is the ONLY reason. After months of stewing on it, I decided the best course of action would be to let the public know the situation. It is my highest recommendation to NOT send your loved one to this facility. I have read about a dozen negative reviews of this place, and I assure you, dear reader, that their response to this review will be the canned “Hi. We are sorry to hear that we didn’t meet your expectation…Please get in touch with us…” garbage. Completely flaccid, completely useless, borderline passive-aggressive, much like the nursing and nursing aid staff there. If you (The Laurels of Huber Heights) really want to know what you must do in order to improve: A great starting place would be to stop your joshing around at the nurse’s station, and actually make your rounds. Treat your patients like they were your own mothers. And I really don’t want to hear about how you are understaffed. Newsflash, people: Post-COVID, we all are. Make adjustments, accordingly, and either do your jobs, or get out of the way of people who will.

Experiencia fantástica: I was faced with the need of a short term rehabilitation facility after knee replacement surgery. I visited a couple of facilities close to home. I choose the Laurels of Huber Heights based on how I was greeted by the staff and their programs for therapy. Upon arriving the day after surgery, the pain blocker was starting to wear off and I began to experience what many had forewarned me about, real pain. The nursing staff also knew what I was about go through and was very attentive to my pain relief needs and overall comfort. Once through that next 24 hours my pain became manageable and the focus then shifted to maintaining the pain level and therapy evaluations. Over the next couple of days I was visited by the members of their leadership team to ensure that I received everything needed to provide a successful recovery. Not having any previous experiences with rehab facilities, I consider my choice of the Laurels to be a very fortunate one. Every goal that I had set for myself was either attained or surpassed. I would highly recommend the Laurels of Huber Heights to anyone in need of rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, short or long term.

Experiencia negativa: This is by far the worst place to put your loved ones! My mother is a stroke victim and is paralyzed on her whole right side. She has fell on her head three times due to them leaving her unattended or moving her too close to the edge where it’s easy for her to fall! I’m hurt and upset. She is currently on her way to the hospital because she fell on her head again today. She said the nurses at night are cruel to her and they pull and yank on her bad side aggressively and show no respect or assist her when she’s in pain! I can’t believe we admitted her to this place of hell! She’s only 54 and this is what she has to suffer threw at a facility that is supposed to help her. Do not go here!

Experiencia negativa: My mother was put into there today from Kettering hospital for just a month for rehabilitation. She got there at 2 and only had the nurse come in when she first got there. My mom calls me around 7pm saying that there hasn’t been anyone to check on her, give her meds or the IV for the spinal infection she has. So I call them, spoke to Ashley. She says she would talk to her nurse and go check on her now. Meanwhile they didn’t because my mom called me and hour and a half later saying they never came. She is instructed not to walk to the bathroom by herself because she is at risk of falling. This is just ridiculous! So I call back only to get no answer this time. The phone line is very crackly. So I call my mom back on her cellphone to see if anyone came. She said they just came. I had her put me on the phone with him and told him my concerns. The nurse still hasn’t came to give meds or the IV and it’s 9:30. We will be moving her out of there tomorrow! Not even 24 hrs there and it’s bad. Do not put your loved ones in here. It’s obvious that they are short on staff and don’t have it together there.
Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at the Laurels. I was a patient there due to having problems of passing out every time I stood. I could not walk. The therapists helped me walk again. Patty and Stephanie are my angels. The Laurels staff were so kind and gave me my life back. I could never say thank you enough.

Experiencia negativa: can never seem to reach them and they cant seem to take the time to tell me how my loved one is doing, because of covid i have no idea because i cant see him. I think they need to be more patient with families. Also i finally talked to my loved one after finally getting through to someone and found out how upset he is with his care.

Experiencia negativa: Horrible place. Telling a resident that is spending their money to live there that she can only stay out with her family for 3 hours!!! That is the most stupidest thing that I have heard!! Don’t ever put your family member in there! They are acting like she is in a prison!

Experiencia negativa: If I could leave 0 stars I would, there were only a handful of people that were even helpful. My son was there as a short term patient until he was was healed enough to go an inpatient rehabilitation facility. The nurses who passed his meds when he finally received them from a pharmacy couldn’t even tell him what he was getting. He laid in bed for 2 days before even receiving a Lovenox injection to prevent blood clots. The nurses nor the PCT’s never changed him out of his waffle boots to his kickstand boots as I requested daily! He was in severe pain the entire 12 days he was there, they never did his bowel program as instructed and was late multiple times to cath him, while he had a UTI. The explanation we received from one nurse who threw her arms up at us from window view due to COVID visitation restrictions was that she was overwhelmed and had multiple patients to take care of. The care my son received was very unprofessional and I was never so happy to have him transferred. I wouldn’t recommend this facility to anyone who loves and cares about their family member.

Experiencia negativa: I called and emailed several times within a week regarding my Dad's medication, and they don't respond. You have to go there in person to get any answers. I dropped off food for my Dad at the front door, then drove around to his window for a visit. 40 minutes went by and they still hadn't brought his food. I had to go back to the main entrance and confront someone about it, so they would get his food to him. This place is ridiculous! My Dad hates being there!
Experiencia negativa: Horrible place. Always late on meds. Patient might lay waiting for help for a hour or more. Some staff seems to care but most obviously do not. Holding back prescibed medicine because nurse thinks patient dont need it. No follow through on any complaints. Staff has lied repeatedly on several different subjects. Not a safe place for your loved ones!

Experiencia negativa: If I could rate this facility a zero. I would. Not leaving call light by bed, verbal abuse to our loved one, lazy night CNAs, dietician poor and don't follow diet by doctors, don't test diabetic patients properly and give insulin in a timely manner. Give diabetics food they can eat. This place needs to be investigated, new management, fire staff who improperly care of patients. DO NOT send your loved one here. Even though their tour looks nice iof the facility and their is good reviews.
Experiencia negativa: This place is absolutely horrible when it comes to rehabilitation. My dad has severe COPD and was placed on a ventilator/life support due to Respiratory Distress and heart problems. They took him off the ventilator and his breathing and heart was stable at the hospital until transferred to this facility. The staff was rude to him as well as us. The air conditioning didn't work they would not provide him with a fan AND THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE HIS MEDICATIONS! After he called me 4 times crying, They wouldn't even allow us back to see him. I pulled him right out of here and took him home where he had oxygen walker scooter and his very important MEDICATIONS. They said they were calling adult protection services on me. Well I am calling the state board and making a complaint against them. Call APS I have everything he needs unlike you. Unless you want your love one to suffer..... please do not take them here!!!!!

Experiencia negativa: My experience I wouldn't wish on anyone my intravenous medication was wasted trying to clear the air in the line to my pik some of the staff was very helpful others not so much I wouldn't suggest the laurels to anyone prior to going to the hospital February 4 they insisted I give them the money I had now due to the fact I hadn't opened an account it's gone. I'm sure I'm not the only person this has happened to. Hopefully their hospitality towards their residents has improved.

Experiencia fantástica: I have enjoyed my stay here at The Laurels of Huber Heights. I wasn't a big fan of the meals but the staff was willing to make alternates to make sure I got something I liked. The therapy department was very effective and determined to see me succeed. I would recommend to anyone.
Experiencia positiva: Most of the nurses and staff I've dealt with have been great. The food is not bad but every once in a while it comes out and isnt as hot as it should be. The staff is more than willing to heat it up and will always go out of their way to take care of me. I feel like I know the employees and would come back here should I need help again. Experiencia positiva: When I first got here, I wanted nothing to do with the place. But within a few days, I got settled in and they were wonderful. I was here two times for rehabilitation and they were great. Even when I was grumpy and didn't want to participate, they were patient with me and got me back on my feet. The nurses and PCTs were great. They treated me like a king and waited on me hand and foot. Pain management was outstanding. I NEVER had to suffer like at other facilities...one word of advice: the doctor comes around once a week, so get to know the Physician's Assistant. She would sit down with me and find out what was going on whereas the doc would stick his head in the door and be out in 2 minutes. If you need ANYTHING medical, especially specific meds and dosing adjustments, she is the GOTO person. She is usually there most of the week and the one at the time I was there was AMAZING. Just make sure you get to know her because she is the one who really gets things done. As far as the facility goes, the place was very clean. They have a giant cafeteria dining room if that's your style. They also have a computer room with coffee and snack machines. Common areas with big screen TV's. A nice bird sanctuary little area with birds going about their day for your viewing pleasure. They also have Wi-Fi too. A nice outdoor area with benches and a walkway. Very nice facility. They also have many activities. Certain days they have games, trivia and bingo. Occasionally they will order outside food and bring it in for residents ( you pay for that, but no biggie ), stories, music performers, movies and popcorn. They have a physical rehab gym, but as long as another resident isn't scheduled on a machine you can use it for additional exercise. I used a stationary bike machine to build my strength back up after being off my feet for nearly 2 months. I didn't get into the group activities until later on but I definitely recommend them as it breaks up the monotony. Overall, things were very nice there. Only thing I wasn't too impressed with was the food and that was no fault of theirs. When cooking for an institution, the diet has to be rather bland to accommodate peoples restrictive diets so to me the menu items were not the greatest. They would have good meals...chicken, pizza, burgers, etc.but if you wanted something special, they would go out of their way to make it for you. I ate a lot of my own food...a lot of high-protein sandwiches to get my strength back up. I would also occasionally order delivery on some days that I had a craving for...one close by Chinese restaurant was very good with gigantic portions. I don't know if the staff was too crazy about me ordering food, but just remember you're in rehab...not prison. So overall, the Laurels of Huber was very good to me. I quickly became attached to the place, the staff and a lot of the residents. I was almost sad to leave because I made some really nice friends there.The Laurels has some detractors I see, but I also truly believe that your experience here will be based on how you approach it. At first, I was ready to leave and almost did...but I gave it a chance and had a very good experience in a very difficult time in my life. Thank you, Laurels!

Experiencia positiva: A few waeeks ago I had the opportunity to do rehab here. During my rehab I stayed in theor nirsing care facility. Everything was well kept and clean, all the nursing staff was wonderful, better yet the guests were hillarious. If i had to make a derogatory remark it would be towards a rehab aid. The good thing that came out of this, management had the problem solved in 10min. I would recommend this facility to any senior. This place is a delight.

Experiencia fantástica: I've worked at this facility since October. The management team is by far the best there is in their field. Every member from dietary to nurses care about the guest and put them first. We do whatever it takes to make the stay at our facility the best experience.
Experiencia fantástica: As my 83 year old dad once again returns to the Laurels for physical therapy, my family has total assurance that he will once again receive quality care from all staff & the amazing physical therapy team! About 18 months ago, he was there to rehab several areas effecting his mobility, and they took him from being hoisted fom bed to cane walking! Due to another fall, he is back...not as critical, but needing assistant and phyiscal therapy....this team...and it takes everyone front desk to maintenance to run a quality program..thank you Laurels for service & being in the Huber community

Experiencia negativa: This place almost killed my mother and because of their negligence she lost her leg. I have seen staff on their phone and you can tell they don’t want to work there. They don’t care about the laundry. I had to write them a list of what to do and not do with my mother’s clothes. They was nonchalant when they contacted me to tell me that they sent her to the hospital. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
