Experiencia negativa: I was here for one day for less than 3 hours and had to write a review. My experience here was terrible. I was visiting a family member and she just had a stroke and cannot do much of anything without assistance. Luckily, her sister has been visiting everyday and has been taking care of her however, to the extent where the sister is changing the diapers, changing the bedsheets, and doing everything the nurses should be doing. In addition, we went to take my family member for a walk and first, the wheelchair didn’t have leg stands so her feet were dragging on the floor whilst we pushed her, and second when we were transferring her to the wheelchair, the nurse did not lock the wheelchair for it to be stable. This was a huge safety hazard and is extremely concerning. The nurses are not helpful whatsoever and do the bare minimum. More or less.

You can tell the rehab team takes pride in their work, and it shows in the progress their patients make. It was clear that they genuinely care about the residents and take pride in the care they provide. The facility was clean and well maintained, and communication with staff was thoughtful and respectful. Any questions or concerns were addressed promptly, which made a big difference during an already stressful time. The nursing and support teams showed patience, kindness, and consistency, and that level of care did not go unnoticed. I would confidently recommend Woodbine to anyone looking for a rehabilitation and healthcare center where residents are treated with dignity and care.

Experiencia negativa: While the Woodbine Rehabilitation Facility is clean and well-maintained, the level of care provided is extremely poor and deeply concerning. There appears to be little to no coordination among the nursing staff, and medical records are not adequately reviewed prior to administering care. Requests for pain medications and basic services often go unanswered or are significantly delayed. My mother was admitted solely for wound care following surgery. She has a complex medical history, including a staph infection and sepsis from an open wound not properly drained, a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that includes a subdural hemorrhage, which causes severe headaches that can escalate quickly if not treated early. This information was communicated clearly and should have been evident in her medical records. Despite my mother repeatedly requesting medication for an escalating headache, her concerns were ignored until the pain reached a critical and irreversible level. At that point, I informed the staff that there was nothing they could do other than call an ambulance. Shockingly, after debating the situation with me, staff stated that my mother could call 911 herself if she felt it was necessary. It is unacceptable that in a medical emergency, the responsibility was placed on the patient rather than the facility. Eventually, an ambulance was called, and my mother was admitted to the hospital, where she required multiple pain medications simply to bring the headache under control—something that could have been avoided with proper attention, timely medication, and a thorough review of her medical history. Additionally, we were informed that wound care was only available once a week, despite the doctor’s explicit orders for wound care three times a week. This experience was distressing and frightening. While this facility has the potential to be a great place, it is clearly understaffed, and there is a significant lack of attention to detail and patient advocacy. I genuinely worry about patients who do not have family members present to advocate for them. Overall, this was a horrible experience, and I would not recommend this facility based on the level of care we encountered.

Experiencia fantástica: A Home for Healing: Mark's Exceptional Experience at Woodbine My husband, Mark, spent 44 days at Woodbine, following 56 challenging days in two hospitals. We chose Woodbine over other rehabilitation and healthcare centers specifically because of their high ratings and strong recommendations, and we were absolutely not disappointed. In fact, I hope our experience helps raise their ratings even higher. From the moment we arrived, we felt the genuine compassion and personal commitment of the entire Woodbine team. This isn’t just a job to them—they truly care about their patients and treat you like friends, like family. This profound sense of pride starts right in Admissions with Danielle and the Business Office with Shayna, and with the warm welcome received daily by friends and family from the receptionists Trenaye and Danielle. This commitment continues through all the wonderful care, and is sealed by Social Services with Janese who put a bow on it, coordinating everything needed for a safe return home. During his stay, Mark received exceptional, coordinated care across every department. The CNAs and nursing staff, including Daniel, Anita, Patricia, and Eugenia, were attentive and tireless, along with many others. The entire team of specialists, like physical therapist Steven, speech therapist Kerestyn, occupational therapists, and the entire Respiratory team (including Emebet and Reuben), led by their hands-on Director Melissa, all worked together seamlessly. Their efforts were instrumental in helping Mark regain so much of the strength and confidence he’d lost. Their encouragement and persistence made all the difference in his recovery. We especially want to thank Steven, Kerestyn, and the RT team for making coming home a reality. The housekeeping team deserves praise for keeping everything clean and always greeting us with a smile. And once Mark was able to eat again, he frequently commented on how good the food was! These are the kinds of details you can’t find just anywhere. The level of teamwork, compassion, and professionalism across every department at Woodbine speaks to their high standards—and it’s something truly special. Finally, the celebration! The red carpet clap out on discharge made my husband feel like the champion he is to walk out of Woodbine being celebrated. I was crying tears of joy for all that Woodbine accomplished in just 44 days! Thank you Woodbine!!!

Experiencia fantástica: Our sister has been at Woodbine for about three years for serious health challenges. I just learned that I could compliment the CNA's who have provided outstanding care to her. I am going to list the CNA's and specify the remarkable consideration they have provided since she has been on the current ward. Jamila Fabunmi is remarkable (well they all are :-) ) Our sister needs help during the shift change consistently. We have worked with administration to successfully design a schedule that would accomodate our sister's requirements. Ms Fabunmi makes the transistions happen with love, consideration and respect. Because it is an awkward time, our sister may not receive the respect that she deserves from some CNA's, but Ms Fabunmi rectifies the circumstances immediately. Her professional approach, and I cannot express enough, her caring communication with the family is always comforting and reassuring. We have a sense of peace when she is in charge of the CNA staff after the shift change. She is always willing to step in and help when she is in charge of other duties as well. I have noticed that is the criteria of excellence that is common to all of the CNA's that I am commending today. An awareness of service and care for the patients, a gentleness and empathy just resonates in their character and actions. I watch the staff. Sometimes these persons are "bone tired," but they perserve. I watch how they interact with other patients as well as our sister. I see that consistent commitment of quality service in their actions. The next person is "Ms Alice." Alice Sneed is our sister's assigned daily CNA. Our sister is stylish and very clean. Ms Alice dresses, grooms her and makes her feel like herself. They have an endearing relationship. Ms Alice reminds our sister of a dear friend and she calls Ms Alice by her friend's name. If she runs out of toiletries, Ms Alice purchases more with her money. We immediately reimburse her, because we are so grateful to her. Ms Alice keeps her clean and that keeps her calm. There is so much to say, but I have to get to the other remarkable CNA's. Kia Terry has such an infectious personality than we smile when we see her before words are exchanged. She takes the time to share her community activities with our sister and they have enjoyable conversations. She is a floater and visits our sister and other patients on her own time to cheer them up. She can convince her to eat when others give up. I appreciate her so much because she offers our sister a glimpse of the outside community. Then there are the dynamic duo! Two young gentlemen that I just love. They do not always work together, but whenever either one is around I know we will get help when we ask and not just surly stares or being ignored. The two gentlemen are, Frank Conteh and Samuel Swarray. While they are never assigned to her they help with correcting food trays, transferring with the lift to the bed, obtaining supplies for her and really anything that she needs, if they can. They are both so quiet and polite, and they are always helping on the unit. Of course, I have already commended Marie Renee who personifies service integrity.

Experiencia negativa: My mother was there for 3 months. Many times there were staff shortages. Generally speaking, communication with staff was difficult due to shift changes. It was hard to get my mother’s medications fixed. Often it took a long time (greater than 20 mins) to have a nurse or aide to respond. There are people with good intentions there, and I appreciated their help, but communication is inefficient and you have to advocate constantly for your loved ones. My mother became despondent, depressed and angry. Like many elderly people, she lost control of things in her life and some of the staff there, especially the aides, did not appear educated on the psycho social aspects of aging and disability. Often my mother was just called a problem. I tried to help the staff and provide support to the staff in ways I could, but I became discouraged as well.

Experiencia positiva: Review for Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center – Alexandria, VA I stayed at Woodbine after my left hip replacement and want to thank the many caring people who helped me recover, while also sharing a few honest areas that need attention. Nursing & Care: Stacy and DeeDee were excellent, and the Black nurse with the thick accent who often relieved Stacy was wonderful. CNAs Assa (shower aide) and Jeanette (mornings) were amazing—gentle, kind, and always willing to help. Therapy: PT Stephen was outstanding, Mohamed very good, and the entire PT team was skilled and encouraging. The OT staff were kind and supportive, offering stretches even when I didn’t need much direct therapy. Cleanliness & Laundry: Housekeeping did a terrific job keeping everything spotless and well-stocked. Laundry service was quick and reliable, though fresh linens ran out fast after deliveries. Activities & Comfort: The activity coordinator was upbeat and caring, and the bright sitting area near the nurses’ station was lovely. The beds, however, were uncomfortable, and the TV sound system should be linked to the bed remote—much better for shared rooms. Allowing access to Netflix or Prime Video would also improve comfort for longer stays. Ice & Supplies: Ice packs took too long to refreeze, and staff said the freezer doesn’t get cold enough. Reliable ice is crucial for post-surgical recovery. Food & Refrigerator Policy: Meals were disappointing, especially for diabetics. I ended up buying my own food. The 3-day refrigerator rule makes sense for leftovers but not sealed grocery items with expiration dates. I worried my food would be thrown away early. Please consider expanding refrigerator space or using two systems—one for leftovers and one for store-bought items. Administration & Discharge: Case management (Angela/Angie) was unresponsive despite multiple calls starting October 2. My walker wasn’t ordered until after discharge. Thankfully, Don and Robbie in administration were exceptional—professional, proactive, and compassionate. They stepped in when others didn’t and truly made a difference. Overall, the nurses, CNAs, therapists, and administrators like Don and Robbie made my stay positive and productive. With better case-management follow-through, improved food, and small comfort upgrades, Woodbine could easily be five stars.

Vanessa Williams, Richard Oommen, and the big team made me feel comfortable right away. It was a really positive start, and I’m excited to be part of the team!

Experiencia negativa: Two weeks ago, someone from the facility went into my mother's room and took her wheelchair. As of 9/25/25 my mother's wheelchair has not been found. I am extremely upset

Experiencia fantástica: My mother has been living in the memory care at Woodbine since September 2023. I can’t praise the third floor staff enough. Hamzatu Deen, Charlotte Aguyras, Ngozi, Rose and Sophia Viggiano could not be praised enough they go above and beyond for my mother and the other residence there. They are patient and kind and loving and work diligently to keep everyone safe and secure and happy it is also always clean and No smells of urine or anything else, like a lot of places that you go to in this situation. Overall, Woodbine is wonderful, but my heart is on the third floor with everyone there that works with me and takes care of my mother❣️Thank you ❣️

The Social Work Team— Janese, Angela and Issatu are truly exceptional; their kindness, availability, and advocacy to patient care is unmatched. Understanding and navigating the whole process can be extremely challenging but with their dedication and commitment each step of the way make a world of difference! Woodbine is truly a gem that I wish I found sooner for my loved ones and community!

Janese, Angela, Marcellis, and Shawnita take the time to craft thoughtful, individualized care or discharge plans that reflect each patient’s specific needs and recovery goals. As a partner, they are engaged, proactive, and compassionate. They prioritizing what’s best for the patient. They are also a tremendous resource for individuals and families navigating the complexities of the aging process, offering support, insight, and guidance every step of the way. Experiencia positiva: Thank you to Avion who worked tirelessly to help us heal. Kudos to weekend CNAs Yeshi and Tesserit for their smiles and gentle manner. Bravo to the PT workers. Mohammed was awesome. Waits when call button was pushed seemed long. Protein in meals was generous. The wild woman in the north unit who entered my room several times, screamed and knocked over trays in the hall was unbearable. Not good for patients trying to heal and the abuse shouted at the staff was NOT right. She walked with a cane but didn’t always use it. She got special food and still created havoc. She does not belong on a unit where people are trying to heal and where staff work their butts off trying to meet everyone’s demands.

She is truly the best! She is consistently professional, compassionate, and incredibly dedicated to her patients and their families. No matter the situation, Janese always goes to the extra mile, staying late, answering every question, and making sure no detail is missed. She explains discharge instructions thoroughly and patiently, making sure families feel confident and supported every step of the way. We’ve seen her advocate for patients, coordinate care with heart, and do everything possible to ensure smooth, successful transitions home. It’s always a pleasure working with Janese and the entire Woodbine team. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares and will give 110%, Janese is the person to ask for. We highly recommend her!

Experiencia fantástica: I needed a new phone because old one failed. I dd not have the money to get another, especially the monthly service charge. Marcellus was kind and talented enough to help me qualify for Virginia Lifeline program resulting in free cellphone service indefinately and help me buy an inexpensive cellphone to use with the lifeline service. He also got me a cash card using my funds at the Woodbine business office to enable me to purchase the phone. I am very grateful! He also ensured that I was seen by Dentist and received my Dentures.

Experiencia fantástica: We had a positive experience with Woodbine. Our friend, a 93-year-old with a fractured pelvis, spent approximately a month there. Although she complained constantly, from everything I observed she received excellent care. In particular, she benefited from the skilled and patient physical therapy from Regina, who could speak to our friend in her native Spanish. The staff at all levels is stretched a bit thin, so sometimes one must wait a while to have an issue addressed, but in general everyone was responsive and willing to help. Woodbine deserves its high ratings.

Experiencia fantástica: My husband moved in Saturday evening to the rehab unit. I have been shocked and awed by all of the medical staff that has been just showing up to care for him! Tuesday there was their usual meeting with the Nurse Manager, PT Director and Social Worker to address new patients concerns. I have had 3 other experiences over the years with rehab and skill care facilities. I have NEVER experienced this kind of proactive care! I never had to ask for a care provider. The staff just KNEW what care was needed and has provided it! The staff is absolutely lovely, kind and super professional! I can not believe how lucky we are to be here! A big thank you to Alex at Silverado Memory Care for helping me find Woodbine! One month later: We are still at Woodbine. Now that I have had a chance to get to know the staff I am even MORE happy with Woodbine. Every staff member I have interacted with is so kind, loving, patient and professional. I feel like this is our family. It makes me so happy to come here and be with everyone. I think it is super important that the staff has all been here for a long time. My mom years ago was in a place that had a really big turn over and it was so stressful. Day after day I can count on who is going to be here. The staffing ratios are really good and there are nurses and aides everywhere. If you need help there are just a step away all the time!

Experiencia negativa: I have serious concerns about wood staff and unprofessional nurses I was there today 04/19/2025 I walks in my daughter room she was NOT POSITIONED RIGHT HER ROOM MATE LOOKED AS IF SHE WAS ABOUT TO FALL I RAISED MY CONCERNS TO THE NURSE STELLA I ASKED HER WHERE WAS MAKAYLA NURSE SHE DID AS BEFORE WHEN AND GOT SOMEONE THAT WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH MY DAUGHTER CARE AND POSITIONING SITUATION SO SHE GOT IN HER FEELINGS AND ACCUSED MY 13 year old Grandson of stealing boots I took to the facility for my child most of her things is not there so waiting on Tuesday to go back and speak with the head Administration team after I pulled up a picture of my child with the boots on in may 7 2024 then I told STELLA TO APOLOGIZE TO MY GRANDSON I RESPEFULLY WANT HER REMOVED FROM MY DAUGHTER CARE TEAM THIS IS THE SECOND TIME AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS FOOLISHNESS IF YOU DID YOUR JOB I WOULD HAVE HAD ANYTHING TO SAY IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY DAUGHTER I WILL DEFINITELY PURSUE IT BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT I SAW AND GOT PICTURES OF THE WEEKEND STAFF IS RUDE THE ONLY PLEASANT ONE THAT WAS THERE AT THE TIME WERE KIA SHE HELPED AND STELLA DID NOTHING BUT GOT MAD AND TRIED TO CREATE DRAMA BUT THANK GOD I HAD A PICTURE PEOPLE CHECK ON YOUR LOVED ONES THIS PLACE IS NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR VEN PATIENTS BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF CARE PEOPLE TREAT THEIR DOGS BETTER THAN THEY TREAT HUMAN THATS SAD BUT I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR MY BABY AND EVERYONE SHE COMES IN CONTACT WITH GOD IS IN CONTROL HE HAS THE LAST SAY I pleased at how my baby girl were positioned today room was extremely stink And they had trash from other rooms in there

This was the best experience for us and for him. It was always clean and remodeled unlike the other places he's been at. The way the staff loved our dad and us was heart touching. Experiencia fantástica: We are incredibly grateful for the passion, empathy, affection, and humor shown by the team at Woodbine during the 2.5 months my dad spent there. When he arrived, he was in poor condition after experiencing a cardiac arrest and spending months in the hospital. It can be terrifying to place a loved one in a care facility, hoping that they will receive not just excellent care but also be treated with humanity and respect. From the medical professionals and aides, to the dieticians, occupational and physical therapists, we immediately felt at ease. Their compassion, dedication, tenacity and encouragement made a significant difference in my dad's recovery, and we couldn't be happier with the care that he received. We are truly pleased with the wonderful staff at Woodbine.

Experiencia fantástica: Woodbine was a godsend for our family. From the first phone call, Maya Tana was friendly, informative and accommodating. We needed Spanish-speaking services and she placed my 93 yo mom in 1 North under the care of the world's greatest unit manager, Noemi Andrade. The entire 1 North team was welcoming and attentive and my mother quickly became very fond of all of them. Griselda, Maria and Noemi were her angels. My mother raved about her physical therapy. Kelley Manahan went out of her way to communicate my mother's medical needs and make adjustments to her meds. I called guest services once and hung up without leaving voicemail. Kofi Mensah returned the missed call within 5 minutes of my hanging up. He addressed the matter immediately and called me back to report it was taken care of. You can rest assured your loved one is getting the best care when they are admitted to Woodbine.

Experiencia negativa: Hello beware of the 5 star rating- the night shift is the worst . They don’t care for the patients . My mother was hasn’t been changed in 12 hrs . They are always short staff at night . The building shows very well with the five stars but beware the care is horrible on night shift . If you pick the building please plan on staying overnight with your love one !!!!

I received exceptional care from Haja Tarawally, Maude Charles, Kate Deveno, Ramache Tarawally, Fatmata Kamara, Jashley Fuentes, Valerie Coker, Anjelene Martins, Doreen Nena Wainken, Meseret Tesemma, and Alyssa Treacy (and many more). These were the nurses, CNAs and occupational and physical therapists with whom I worked most closely to regain my health and mobility. I also was monitored and treated by caring medical doctors and nurse practitioners. I owe all of these people, by name and position, for helping me return to functioning in the world again. Many times staff stopped by and just chatted for a minute, welcome intervals at midnight when I was fearful and anxious. I am so grateful to all of them.

She helped calm me down and educated me on the whole skilled nursing process and gave me valuable resources for my mom when it was time to go home. She even gave me a list of home care agencies to interview. That way we had help at home while I work. I don't know what I would do without her and the social work department during my moms time there.

I asked to be moved but this is day 16 and I am still in the room with the yelling lady. I can't get any sleep. Will be glad to go home so this nightmare can end.

Experiencia negativa: This place is disgusting. Foreign workers don’t give a damn about anyone. Negligent, careless and incompetent!! My mother has been declining ever since she moved there. I have to tell them my mother needs to go to the hospital and they try to convince her not to. Only for us to get to the ER and they tell us she is very sick. Almost sepsis . I have video of the nurses making mockery of my mother . There have been instances when my mom would call at 4 in the afternoon complaining that they haven’t given her meds for the day. Nurses are rude, with nasty attitudes . DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONES IN THIS PLACE !!

The facility is extremely dirty, food was so bad and also most of the care givers are rude and unprofessional. The room that my family member uses one bathroom that has another door to share with, which is one bathroom for four people and they don't even flash it. The hallway and the bathroom smells so d bad. I don't recommend it to anyone.

I had too - I was tired of cleaning after her, correcting the nurses about what medication to give her, and dealing with the bell assistance. Terrible place!

Experiencia fantástica: My husband (91) had been hospitalized twice and needed rehabilitation before he was strong enough to come home. I'm so glad we chose Woodbine. He has dementia and the staff made him comfortable in his new surroundings quickly. Physically he made great strides in strength, endurance and balance in his time there, thanks to a really positive team of therapists, led by Zaiby, who managed his case. Lauren, the social worker, made sure I understood the process and was always available for updates and to help me arrange for follow-up care now that he's home. The nurses and assistants (amng them - Grace, Atsede, and Rose) managed his day to day life there, answered my questions and assured that he was content. He was clearly well cared for. The personel were dedicated including the helpful admin staff at the door, Brett, the unit manager who made sure I understood my husband's new medications, the supervisor who called me weekly to see if I had questions or concerns, and the wonderful people who arranged activities in which we were both able to participate. It was a positive experience for both of us. I am so very grateful.
