Experiencia negativa: I am so sad. I was recommended this office by my previous veterinarian, so I made an appointment for my cat. I work full time so I sent my husband to bring my cat to see Dr. Quiroz. One of my cat's issues I wanted looked at was her ear scratching. Apparently my cat has a mild yeast infection, and was offered two options: ear drops for cats that we'd need to administer for a month, or a one-time administration of Claro Otic. Dr. Quiroz informed my husband (and myself once I saw the receipt and was freaked out that non-cat safe medication was used) that this medication was intended for dogs, but stated that she uses it on cats all the time and has not seen any adverse reactions. Unfortunately, Dr. Quiroz had just been extremely lucky up until this point, because as soon as they got home I could see something was wrong. My cat's right eye was abnormal and her third eyelid was showing. I intended on returning to Companion Animal Health immediately but it was 25 mins away with traffic, so I opted to bring her to a closer vet. The vet there was able to get ahold of the company who makes Claro Otic and they confirmed that it is not meant for cats, and walked the vet through how to treat my cat. As I write this my cat's eye is still not back to normal and she is unable to eat properly, even though she has an appetite. She wants to eat but cannot figure out how to use her jaw as normal. If the vet would have informed us that the potential side effects for Claro Otic in cats include ear discharge, head shaking, ataxia, internal ear disorder (head tilt and vestibular), deafness, emesis, nystagmus, pinnal irritation and ear pain, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, vocalization, corneal ulcer, cranial nerve disorder (facial paralysis), tympanic membrane rupture - of course we would have opted for the 30 day treatment instead of this "quick fix" that sounded like a perfectly safe option. Please do not continue advocating for use of this medication in cats!!!! It's not worth the risk. I just want my baby to be as healthy as she was before she was brought there.

The health and safety of our patients is our top priority, and we take each situation very seriously.Dr. Quiroz is a highly skilled veterinarian who always strives to provide the best care possible. In your cat’s case, after diagnosing a bacterial and yeast infection in the ears, Dr. Quiroz carefully considered the most effective treatment options. Given your cat's discomfort and the challenges in administering daily medication, two options were presented: Mometamax, to be applied once daily for 10 days, or Claro, a single-application treatment lasting 30 days. Both choices were explained as being off-label use in cats, which is a common practice in veterinary medicine due to the limited availability of feline-specific medications.After consideration between Dr. Quiroz and your husband, Claro was selected for your cat as the least stressful, yet adequate treatment option. While we always aim for the best outcomes, it's important to note that, like in human medicine, side effects can occasionally occur with veterinary treatments, and it’s impossible to predict with certainty how each individual pet will react. The side effects that you listed are also side effects that dogs can have. In regard to the off-label use of Claro, it remains a widely accepted treatment option among veterinarians, including board-certified veterinary dermatologists and general practitioners, despite a post-approval label update. After consulting directly with the manufacturer, we confirmed that while adverse reactions have been reported, they are not exclusive to cats, and similar side effects can occur in dogs. We also confirmed that the label update was based on anecdotal reports rather than clinical evidence of widespread harm to cats.We truly regret that your cat experienced a reaction, and we offered to manage her care when we were informed of the issue. We understand that you chose to seek treatment closer to home, and we fully respect that decision.Please know that Dr. Quiroz made the most informed and thoughtful decision with your cat’s best interest in mind. Experiencia negativa: I have unsubscribed from their email service more times than I can count. I moved out of Escondido 5 years ago, and haven’t been there since. I’ve even contacted them to stop sending me emails. 5 years I’ve been putting up with this. So incredibly annoying.

Experiencia negativa: I recently visited this vet because my cat was over-grooming himself. Despite charging me $340, they seemed clueless about what was going on with him. They had multiple assumptions and pushed various medications on me, including 100mg gabapentin, flea prescriptions, and even injected a steroid. After spending all that money and subjecting my cat to numerous chemicals, there was no improvement. In fact, my cat's condition worsened. Very disappointed with the service and the lack of effective treatment.
We have searched our database and have been unable to identify either a patient or owner that fits this description. It is unfortunate that this cat did not respond as the owner would have liked to the treatment that was provided. Based on the limited information provided, it seems that this cat was treated with a broad approach in order to cover anxiety, flea allergies, or other allergies that could cause overgrooming. These tend to be the most common reasons for overgrooming and most cats will respond appropriately to treatment. Unfortunately, this cat seems to have been an outlier.If, however, this is a patient of ours I invite the owner to reach out to us so we can try to help. Not all patients respond to appropriate care in the way that we'd like but we're willing to keep working in order to try to find the solution. - Dr. Knox

I highly recommend him to all pet owners. 2 of my dogs were littermates and had very unusual medical issues that Dr Knox was quite adept at dealing with and got me the resources I needed for them.

Experiencia fantástica: When I moved from Valley Center I had to leave the wonderful Vet (Dr. Matthews) who specializes with cats, because I no longer had transportation and Escondido was a bit far to travel for our cats' care. Dr. Knox was recommended by three people, and I have been most satisfied and delighted with his care for Maude and Mathilda, who are now about 17 years old and living with me in my residential care facility in Escondido. Dr. Knox is kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and readily available. He helped wean Mathilda from medication she had been taking for many years, and seems to be thriving. The staff at Companion Care are wonderful, caring, pleasant, and obviously very animal friendly!

Experiencia negativa: We took our dog in for her 2nd lepto vaccination, merely weeks after her first dose, at which time we had paid for a full exam and first dose. We were charged $118 for the 2nd dose because the vet's policy is to do a full exam regardless of how recent the last exam was done. This seems like a ridiculous policy to me. We will not be returning. In response to your reply about always giving clients an estimate of costs before providing services...I beg to differ. If that had happened this conversation would not have been necessary.
It is absolutely accurate that I require an examination between puppy booster vaccinations. This is because I consider vaccinations to be both vital and powerful medical treatments for your pup’s long-term health. I have, on more than a few occasions, denied vaccinating a puppy due to medical concerns that surfaced during the weeks between vaccinations and went undetected by the owner. Some of our clients value our services for when their pet is ill but prefer to go to vaccination clinics for the “routine shots”. We also always give clients an estimate of costs before performing any service because we don’t like surprises any more than the client does. Of course, everyone has the right to decline services.We are not a good match for everyone but I wish you well with your next veterinarian.-Dr. KnoxETA: I mean absolutely no disrespect and I have no desire to publicly debate this issue. However, it is important to me that you and others that may read this post understand that we followed our protocol. We have a signed estimate of services on hand that not only shows the services that were authorized but the services that were declined at that time. We only did the work that we were authorized to do by the agent who brought the dog.I fully recognize that you are unhappy with my policy but it is something that I believe to be important and we don’t hide it from anyone. We don’t cheat people.

They made him comfortable while they gave him the treatments he needed and were very effective/efficient. PLUS my battery died while I was waiting and one of the Vets came out and jumped my car for me! Until they could do that they gave me a cool, unoccupied room to rest in with my kitten so we could protect him from the heat. 10/10 will come back every time I need veterinary services. Probably not when I need my car jumped but it's good to know I can if I NEED to XD

Experiencia fantástica: We just moved to Escondido from Vista and had been looking for a new vet, but needed to find one fast due to a suspected embedded foxtail in our pup's paw. I sent an appointment request on Wednesday evening and got a phone call Thursday morning. Very pleased with the response time. While they had appointments booked a few weeks out, they said I could do a medical drop off on Friday and he would be seen in between visits. Amazing! I am so thankful for this option because he did indeed have a foxtail embedded! The staff was so patient and helpful in calming my anxiety as we've never had to do any sedation before. The doctor was kind and all the staff were so nice and informative. I am excited to make Companion our new vet and feel very happy about the compassion I already feel the staff has.

Experiencia fantástica: Very caring techs and doctor and good explanation. Before they begin with anything, they come out with the prices and the explanation of what they're going to do. They won't do anything until you agree to it, which is good because many vets will go ahead and do whatever and then charge you later. I just wished the spaying wasn't over $200 but being near the coast, I can understand that. If you bring two pets at the same time, you get 10% off the second pet.

Experiencia fantástica: I cannot recommend Dr. Jennipher Harris and her team at Premier Veterinary Surgery as well as the staff at Companion Animal Health & Rehab Hospital enough. If you are in need of a board-certified veterinary surgeon, look no further. Dr. Harris is a mobile vet surgeon who does some of her cases at this facility in Escondido. The quality of care, communication and customer service I’ve received throughout the entire process has exceeded all of my expectations. After my 3 1/2 year old black lab was diagnosed with a Mast Cell Tumor, Low Grade II following the removal of an unsuspecting very small skin tag by our family vet, we did all the work up (imaging, labs, organ aspirations, etc.) through an oncology specialist and were able to determine that the cancer hadn’t spread and a revision surgery was the best next step to remove all of the remaining cancerous tissue. After researching, comparing availability, cost, location and of course experience and skill, we decided to move forward with Dr. Harris. Danena on her team worked diligently with us through the busy holiday season, even updating me on surgery availability and keeping me informed of where we stood in the process of scheduling, on Christmas Day. Additionally, Dr. Harris’ bedside manner is so kind and gentle yet confident and reassuring. My pup, Naia, absolutely loved her and immediately felt comfortable with her. It’s almost been two weeks post-op and Naia is healing great. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Harris and her team. Thank you for the incredible care, skill and overall patient experience!

Experiencia fantástica: My dog Hank had some chronic health problems and while on a trip to CA he became very ill. Per my friends recommendations, I took him to be seen at Companion. The Vet was very straightforward with me and although he didn't have good news, he truly had my dog's best interest in mind. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to my beloved dog that day. The Vet and staff were all very comforting and made the process as smooth and humane as possible. Thank you Companion for helping me make the right decision and for ending his pain and suffering.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Knox and his amazing staff have been seeing my Greyhound here for 1 year now. This is an updated review to my previous review, which is still found at the end here. Dr Knox is very honest and let me know, when he thought that more imaging needed to be done, after my Shadow didn't seem to be improving as much as he thought with their laser sessions. He was honest and told me that more info was better, so that he could figure out how to treat her lingering discomfort. After following his advice to get imaging at an off-site hospital, we learned from that MRI that she has degenerative disc disease in her back, so Dr Knox's teem is now treating that additional area. The techs have been so kind and friendly and patient, and Shadow LOVES to go to this Vet clinic for her therapy. Huge thanks to everyone and to Gabe. Shadow forgets all about me, when he arrives to take her in, and she usually has separation anxiety. She stands up and looks out the window for her favorite tech to come get her. If we arrive too early for our appointment, she whines and watches for him to come out the clinic door. Even my other two greyhounds now want to go with him, when he takes Shadow inside. I usually have to carry them all into our regular vet or ER vets, because they don't want to go in alone and are scared. We are doing curbside, as Covid has changed many things in life. I am thankful that they have continued to go to work at this clinic and to see patients, during covid, because my Shadow has needed them. I feel confident with her in their care. They listen to all of my concerns and questions, and let me know, if they don't have the answer. Previous review: My vet recommended that I bring my Greyhound here, as she was limping and possibly had a groin injury needing physical therapy. I called Companion and was able to get an appointment quickly. I dropped off copies of my greyhound's Xrays in advance, and Dr Knox did a physical exam of her to see where she was reacting to pain. They diagnosed her with a groin injury and recommended that we do a few sessions of laser therapy, which they were able to start that day. It was easy to schedule the future therapies. They have been so nice to my Shadow, and everything has gone smoothly so far. We are only 2 visits in, with at least 8 more to go, but I am happy to have my greyhound in their care. Today the tech was so nice, when he brought her back out to my car. We had a quick chat, and I thanked him for helping her. He was kind and I was happy that he had been able to pet her, while she had her laser therapy session today.

Experiencia fantástica: I had a great experience at this place. It was my first time coming here. My Mother had recommended it to me since she also had a great experience there just the week before. They were very thorough about what tests were going to be done and what to expect. They loved my dog, and saw me in a timely manner. They continued to ask me if I had any questions for me, and listened to what I had to say. Personable staff with a good attitude. It was a relief to see these people give my dog the care he deserved. Thank you to the whole staff, I will be back and be recommending this place to everyone.

Experiencia negativa: I took my golden retriever there because he had bad hips. I had numerous issues with the facility with the worse being a dead dog and 0 explanation. I called in when I noticed an issue and they advised me my dog was normal. My dog died hours after that.

When we arrived they said "we only do in person visits in the morning"......but said they would make an exception if we paid 20 per dog to clean the exam room. really? Warm and fuzzy place.......we have 3 pets and spend a fortune. haven't responded to my emails.
After listening to all of your recorded calls some of the information you are expressing here is not fully accurate. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in how your initial appointment was set up. For that, I apologize. However, when you did arrive for your scheduled appointment you indicated that your initial appointment was for an in-house visit. The first receptionist you spoke to at check-in was, at that time a bit inexperienced and didn't realize that there had been a scheduling mistake. The call was ended before she had a chance to work through the problem. When your husband called back and spoke to a more experienced person we recognized our mistake and quickly shifted gears to allow for the appointment you expected. Yes, we do have a room cleaning charge, due to Covid, the extra time needed to clean the room, and the loss of the exam room for another patient for a period of time. However, that charge is $20/visit, not $20/dog. Our receptionist was very kind and professional when she explained how our in-house procedure worked and that we would gladly make the accommodation for you. She indicated a $20 charge & only one person per visit. You chose to cancel your appointment anyway and then your husband cursed at us over the phone before hanging up.I fully acknowledge our initial mistake but we did what I would expect any business to do. We tried to make it right. However, mutual respect is important in any relationship and we did not deserve to be cursed at over this correctable misunderstanding.In spite of everything, I wish you well in your search for a veterinary office that better fits your needs. - Dr. Knox
Experiencia negativa: This review is not based on the knowledge of the vet, but on the service and overall care. I will give the pros and con of my experience. Pros: easy to get appointments, even at last minute for emergencies (within business hours). Staff is pleasant. Prices are comparable. Patient and willing to answer many questions Cons: poor communication. Almost zero follow up. Vague diagnostics, need to probe to get a thorough understanding of findings. One of my experiences: They agreed to see my cat without apps. on a Monday. He had been vomiting all weekend and stopped eating Sunday. I got a call early afternoon saying they needed to do blood work and x-rays. I agreed to x-rays, and if they couldn't find the problem to do the blood work. After x-rays I was told by he appeared to have swelling of the pancreas, diagnosis pancreatitis. When I went to pick him up, they told me to come at 5 which is closing time, the Dr. came out and reaffirmed the diagnosis. He explained the medicine he was giving me would be for inflammation and one for appetite. He said there would be one for vomiting, but then after I ask for clarification of administering the meds., he said there were 2 and one of them would help with the vomiting. I had to ask a bunch of questions about why he thought it was pancreatitis and not a blockage or diabetes or something else. He didn't explain the seriousness of the diagnosis At all. The next day, my cat was still not eating, it was the 3rd day without food. My research said it is very serious if cats don't eat after 3 days. I called the vet wanting to know what I was really dealing with. I wanted to know if I was going to have to euthanize as he was rapidly declining and I had found out from personal research how serious this was. I spoke to a tech who was very nice, calmed me down and said to just relax and be with my cat and not project stress on him, but to just be comforting. The vet would call me back later. He did not call back. I called again the next day, day 4 of my cat not eating. He was now just lying on the floor looking like road kill. Vet finally called me later that day. Just before he did, my cat had finally had something to eat. I continued all meds. and he got back to normal. After that last call I had no follow up from the vet. Forward to 5 weeks later, my cat starts vomiting and crying again. I call the vet right when office opens to see what I should do. The receptionist says vet will call later that afternoon, or by 5. At 5 I called back ND was told I was 3rd on the call back list. He NEVER called me back. This is a serious life threatening chronic problem my cat is having and his vet is doing NOTHING! This is just one experience. The vet handed lacerations on my other cat great, but then gave me antibiotics for another cat that had hair loss on his nose and said "let's see if this works" basically didn't know what it was but if the meds. worked it meant it was an infection. Hope this gives you enough info. to make an informed decision.

The techs here go above and beyond to ensure that I have a clear understanding of treatment and any necessary after care; one of the techs (Britney, I believe) even showed me how to trim my puppy's nails safely. I've also spoken with Amanda, Juliana, and Carla when I've called and every single time they have been professional and so kind. Experiencia fantástica: My 4 year old American Staff Terrier has gotten 2 TPLO surgeries with Dr. Knox. First surgery was October 2020, I had a lot of questions for them before and after her surgery. Sarah Jilka is doing such a fantastic job providing community support and outreach through the Ani-meals Program to pet parents affected by COVID-19. You just get an appointment time and drive up pop your trunk and her team fills your trunk with a 2 wk supply of pet food and groceries. They put a slip of paper in with your goodies that tells you when you are eligible to re-submit form. If you experience any problems online just call Sarah and she will help you complete your application over the phone and schedule a pick up time for you.

Experiencia fantástica: I've been taking both of my chihuahuas here for almost two years now. The staff is always really nice and friendly. They offer affordable prices while providing excellent quality services. I've taken my babies here to get their shots, exams, and dental cleaning/teeth extractions, and every time was a good experience. I must also mention that my chihuahuas are extremely misbehaved and terrified of strangers/new places/new things, and sometimes act out aggressively when they are scared. Despite their behavioral challenges, the staff and vet are always very patient and gentle with them, and are able to get my dogs to calm down and relax. I highly recommend this place. Will be sad to have to switch to another clinic when I move back to Arizona.

Dr. Knox was very helpful and tried to explain my cat's subjective experience to us so that I could help get into his mindset and help him relieve some of his stress and stop acting aggressive. He wouldnt find the source.He didnt even use his educational background to make a diagnosis. He wanted me to do 500.00 worth of testing. So i went home and looked at every ingredient in my dog food. Hello Mr Thompson. Please accept my personal apology for your first experience at Companion Animal Clinic. While we try to remain on schedule, sometimes our schedule is unexpectedly altered. Yesterday was one of those days. Our day got extremely hectic almost immediately due to our clients and patients needing more time than we anticipated. Along with several emergencies, we had a very difficult time holding to our appointment schedule.That said, thank you for taking the time to provide your input. I have spoken to my front desk team in order to get a more complete understanding of the situation and we have analyzed your experience to see how we can improve the care of our clients, both old and new. I have full confidence in our front desk team and I know how much they care about our clients and our patients.It is clear that we should have been in better communication with you while you were waiting and we have created a protocol that can better address situations similar to yours. Obviously, we always want our clients to be happy and satisfied when they leave here. But, we missed the mark in your case. I try to make sure that each of my clients and furry family members gets all of the attention that each of them requires and deserves. Experiencia negativa: It seemed like a reasonably priced vet. Dr. Knox and tech were very informative and patient seemed very caring in the 1st and 2nd encounter. But then Dr. Knox was scheduled to be out for the next appointment and we would be seeing another Dr. It went all down hill on that visit, claimed there was no appointment, that it was actually canceled by receptionist, since the inititual treatment was not successful, we called to see if we could be seen before the next scheduled appointment if they had a cancellation or opening sooner, which they did immediately the same day. Went to appointment got a large $$$$ quote, needef to talk it through with family, decided to get antibiotic to see if that treatment would clear up condition, but keep same next appointment date already scheduled, we all agreed in exam room to do that. Got antibiotic, was explained amount to be given and we left. Well the medicine needed to be refrigerated, was not informed of that! Didn't realize it, until saw it on the counter and it had seperated?! Then even with my progressive lenses to 225 magnification, could hardly make out it needed to be regridgerated. Well can't use it any more to treat. When get into office, they said didn't have an appoint sceduled, and didn't show yhey cancelled it bevause if their proceedure, if come in before that appiintment its cancelled and repkaced with the appointment you had. It would be extra $54.00 on top of regular visit cost for tjus appointment. Just like with human medical iffices do, and it's on the box that the medicine needs to be refridgerated, hthis wad some middle aged stout short woman I've never seen or met before. She is brass and rude. I'm in the medical and dental field, and that us not how it's handled or extra charged, which I told her. Also, any medications or oral treatment products the asdistant, nurse, physicuan or pharmacists tells you that in the first part of instruction, then asks if there are any questions. So we are looking for another vet to treat our beloved pet!!! If you go here, adk a lit of questions, hopefully you can think of them all, so you won't feel so badly treated in the end.
Dear Mrs White,Please accept my apology that you had a negative experience at our clinic in my absence. That is obviously not our intent and I have spoken with everyone regarding your concerns. Please allow me to address some of your concerns. Your appointment time was really nothing more than a misunderstanding. When someone reschedules an appointment our usual protocol is to cancel the current appointment. However, you needed to come in before your scheduled appointment. Our receptionist cancelled your existing appointment, assuming (reasonably so) that your needs had been met. While I, honestly, don’t remember saying that I expected you to keep your previously scheduled appointment, I know that we made accommodations to be able to see you when you came in.Regarding the antibiotic, I am sorry that you weren’t told specifically that it needed refrigeration. We normally tell clients to keep it refrigerated, however, we certainly may have forgotten in your case. Because of the possibility that we may fall to human error, we put stickers on the box, in a standard font, stating the need for refrigeration. The manufacturer’s leaflet in the box has the same information. Due to your situation, I have added “Keep Refrigerated” to the standard prescription label for that particular medication. Hopefully, these measures will prevent anyone else from having the problem you had.I’m afraid you completely misunderstood the cost of the appointment. It was not $54.00 in addition to the normal $61.00 visit fee. It was $54.00 instead of the $61.00 fee. This is our fee for follow-up exams. We charge a discounted fee for progress exams.I truly believe that the vast majority of this situation is simple an unfortunate series of misunderstandings, for which I apologize. However, I must take issue of your attack of my Office Manager. While you are no longer happy with our care, there is absolutely no need to denigrate her withyour perception of her physical appearance, age, or anything else. As adults, we can disagree and still be respectful. If you felt that she was “brass & rude”, OK. I know her well and I am very familiar with how she interacts with clients. She is neither “brass” nor “rude” and after speaking with other people that overheard the conversation, I am very comfortable standing firmly behind her.Once again, I’m sorry that you had a negative experience with us but there are quite a number of very qualified veterinarians in the area. I truly wish you well in finding someone that you are comfortable with.Respectfully,Dr Knox

Total to date - we have had 2 scheduled appointments for our Golden Retriever puppy (Stella) and 1 unplanned visit. The staff are warm, friendly and reflective of Dr. Knox himself who will immediately put you right at ease. This is a small clinic with reasonable pricing and no up-selling of unnecessary services or products. My wife and I are so happy we found Dr. Knox and Companion Pet Clinic; and know Stella will receive the best possible care in the years to come. When we took Stella's Rabies vaccination paperwork to the Humane Society for registration - we communicated to the front desk Stella was being cared for by Dr. Knox and Companion Pet Clinic; and were told Dr. Knox has routinely volunteered his time at the Center and they echoed what we had already experienced with his kindness and dedication.

Experiencia fantástica: Great Vet, super friendly and accommodating staff. They definitely try to help their furry patient family and try to fit you in the same day you call in some cases. I just moved here and they have been super helpful in getting my dog prepared for his new home

Experiencia fantástica: I have been bringing my six year old dog to Dr. Knox since she was a puppy, and it has been a wonderful experience every visit. The staff are friendly and you can tell they love animals as much as Dr. Knox does. They always know who me and my dog are, and usually will come out to say “hi” to my dog while I’m in the waiting room. Dr. Knox is an amazing veterinarian; he is gentle, honest and genuinely wants to help in any way possible. Doug is great, too! We love Companion Animal Clinic!
