Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Sheaffer is literally my lifesaver! He has been my primary “go to” for my lower back pain for years! Opts.inc is always accommodating to my needs. His wife, Cindy, the office manager, works all hours to help me schedule an appointment that works around my work schedule. The facility is very clean and Dr. Sheaffer knows the body and cares about providing the best care as well as teaching his patients proper exercises and stretches to heal and get back their quality of life. I would never go anywhere else!

Experiencia fantástica: My primary physician referred me to OPTS after I complained about shoulder pain. Within minutes of my first appointment with Dr. Karl, he diagnosed me with a shoulder impingement and said that strengthening the shoulder muscles was the key to recovery. He gave me a series of exercises to do at home, and sure enough, after only a couple of weeks, my shoulder pain was gone. Dr. Karl also treated me for some tingling and numbness in my hand and wrist, which he diagnosed as a pinched nerve in my neck. In the office, he performed a chiropractic treatment and again gave me some basic exercises to do at home. In no time at all, the numbness was gone. Dr. Karl didn’t keep me any longer than was needed to improve my conditions. I appreciated the quiet, relaxed atmosphere of his office and the one-on-one attention. I will gladly return to Dr. Karl again if the need arises for myself or anyone else in my family.

Experiencia fantástica: During my annual checkup, my primary care doctor and I discussed the persistent (two years old) sciatica numbness in my right leg. I had already spent a lot of time and money with my chiropractor and physiatrist, not to mention surfing youtube channels and doing recommended exercise routines and made zero progress. Dr. Karl determined immediately what the root cause of my problem was, which was different than what my physiatrist had been treating me for. After a few weeks of treatments, my symptoms improved significantly. In addition to getting long-sought relief, what I liked about working with Dr. Karl was that he is a one-person shop. Many PT clinics employ teams of Ph.D. therapists coupled with PT techs. After you're initially evaluated by the therapist, you're handed off to a tech and don't even talk to the therapist at every visit. With Dr. Karl, you work with him and only him. Also, Dr. Karl did not milk my issue and press me to continue visits any longer than necessary.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Sheaffer PT, DPT is the best! I became a patient of Dr. Shaeffer PT, DPT, in 2019, on recommendation from my Chiropractor, for a knee problem. After 3 visits, knee manipulation and exercises given, no more knee problem. I returned recently, as another knee problem had developed affecting my hip and lower back in addition to leg numbness. Dr. Shaffer diagnosed a herniated disc and advised a protocol to release the trapped nerve. All symptoms have resolved. All without any test, scans etc. from Primary Care. Therapy is individual, no large rooms with one therapist to many patients. He is kind, patient and works with each individual to support their return to health. I have recommended several people to his office and all concur. Be aware, you must ask your Dr. to refer directly to him, instead of the usual hospital related PT offices. He is an independent provider.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Scheaffer is one of the best physical therapists I have been to since back surgery in 1990. After being unable to walk for over a month, I went to see Dr. Scheaffer as I was contemplating an injection or possible surgery. My back pain prevented me from working, walking and performing day to day activities. Following a conversation about my back pain history and an assessment of my condition, Dr. Sheaffer determined that one leg was shorter than the other, gave me a heel lift for my shoe and had me walk around the facility. The back pain was relieved by 5pm that day. In subsequent visits, he gave me core and stretching exercises which I do faithfully every day. I am back to working and walking regularly as I prepare to do a long distance walk in my retirement. I walked 5 miles over the weekend! I have referred several people to Dr. Sheaffer and will continue to do so. I'm very grateful!

Experiencia fantástica: I recently visited Dr Karl for knee pain that was related to a fall and was diagnosed as a ACL & MCL tear per MRI as well as a minor compression fracture. After my initial evaluation, Dr Karl said 'you won't need surgery' and 'I will fix this for you today'. He proceeded to tell me that my knee was out of place as a result of hyper-extending the knee during my fall. With a few movements, Dr. Karl was able to put my knee back in place which allowed me to move my knee without pain. We continued to work on some strengthening exercises and I am happy to say that I am now pain free. I will return to Dr Karl for any type of physical therapy that I may need in the future. I will also refer my friends and family to see him for any of their needs as well. It was an overall pleasant and satisfying experience. Thank you!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr Sheaffer did a great job treating pain in my right knee. He diagnosed a partial dislocation and popped a bone back in place. The pain and inflammation has been greatly reduced and I am back to doing my normal activities like pickleball and cycling.

Experiencia fantástica: I have been living with a single knee problem for 15 years. Most of the cartilage only on the inner side of my left knee was gone over 10 years ago. The first orthopedic physician (MD) that reviewed my situation wanted to perform arthroscopic surgery to clean a tear. I refused and sought a second opinion. The second orthopedic physician (MD) shot me up with cortisone, then hyaluronic acid lubricant, then fitted me with an awkward knee brace that I was told was to be with me for the rest of my life. At my first visit to Dr. Sheaffer for a different minor issue, I was wearing shorts and Dr. Sheaffer asked why I was wearing the brace. I relayed the history and was told that I could throw away the brace with the right treatment. Of course, I was very skeptical because I had a vacation scheduled to Alaska requiring a fair bit of hiking. After the treatment by Dr. Sheaffer, I did go to Alaska without the brace and proceeded to hike a trail that took me up 500 vertical feet with no problems. Since then I backpacked and hiked the Grand Canyon from rim to rim at the age of 61 and the brace is still on my closet shelf as a reminder. Since those first visits, I will go to no other physical therapist and have referred others who have had excellent results. There is no one better in the Lehigh Valley.

Experiencia fantástica: I'm a runner. I love to run and it's a big part of who I am. Almost three months ago, I injured my knee by simply standing up from kneeling. After three weeks of struggling to run through the pain, I gave in and scheduled an appointment with an Orthopedist. A week later, I had my first appointment and x-rays on my knee. To confirm a meniscus tear, I was sent for an MRI two weeks later. After the MRI, I went for another visit for the MRI results. The Orthopedist recommended surgery for a torn meniscus. UGH! I left without scheduling surgery, deciding to take some time to think. After 3 more weeks of continued pain and swelling, still unable to run, I scheduled another appointment to finally set up surgery. Three days before that appointment and two and a half months of injury, I came across the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Specialists site and Dr. Karl. I clicked on the link for knee pain and saw, "You May Not Need Surgery After All." Well, now you have my attention! I was able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Karl for the next day! All I can say is, the next day I left OPTS in tears...happy tears! I walked into the office in pain and an hour later I walked out with no pain! I had no idea that very few meniscus tears actually need surgery. The technique that Dr. Karl used relieved the pain and swelling and I'm back to running WITHOUT surgery. My only regret is not finding Dr. Karl sooner!!

Experiencia fantástica: I am VERY pleased with the care my family received from Orthopedic Specialists. First, about two years ago, my daughter (a dancer) was referred to them for physical therapy for shin splints. At the very first appt, the doctor examined her legs, asked many questions and then studied her walk. He then turned to us and said she didn't need physical therapy she just had a gait issue and needed orthotics. As soon as she got the orthotics, the shin splints went away and she has not had them again since. Then recently, I went to him because I had been having a great deal of knee pain from instructing Zumba. He checked out my legs and within minutes told me the bones were out of alignment. Right then and there, he adjusted them both and the pain was gone. In just one visit both issues were resolved. I would highly recommend anyone having similar issues be examined by Dr. Shaeffer before proceeding any further. It could save you a lot of time and headache.

Experiencia fantástica: I never experienced back pain until about a year ago when my first grandchild was born. I was helping out out with babysitting and childcare. In attempting to place the car seat carrier into the back of the car, with the baby in it, I had somehow injured my lower back. Never having this problem before, I thought ibprofin and a heating pad would take care of the discomfort. It did so a tiny bit at first, but the nagging pain continued and was affecting my daily living activities. I was experiencing serious difficulty in bending over to pick up anything off the floor, and it was taking more and more effort to put my socks and shoes on. I finally decided to make time to take care of myself and I called Dr Karl’s office. My husband and children have been to the office over the years for back and knee issues. Cindy, his wife and office manager, fit me into his schedule within 2 days of the phone call. Dr Karl did a quick evaluation to confirm his suspicion that my left hip was not in place due to the fact that one leg was slightly shorter than the other. He was able to adjust my hip to it’s proper placement within a few minutes. I continued to see him for approx 3 weeks longer to follow up with suggested stretches and exercises to strengthen the muscles and my core, so that I would stay strong and prevent it from happening again. I would highly recommend to anyone, any age, that you see Dr Karl first before going anywhere else for suggestive orthopedic treatment or therapy.

He was able to fit me in the next day and immediately diagnosed the cause of my pain. Better yet, he had me do some exercises that day that resulted in almost no pain in 30 minutes! Experiencia fantástica: My time with spent with Dr. Sheaffer was excellent. I was having chronic knee issues which prevented me from running more than one mile without experiencing severe pain. I was scheduled an appointment very quickly (within 24 hours) which is much faster than what I am used to. In the first appointment Dr. Sheaffer determined what was wrong, corrected it, and gave me the tools and exercises to rehabilitate quickly. Both Dr. Sheaffer and his wife are very nice and personable, and I would highly recommend to anyone who needs assistance rehabilitating from an injury to strongly consider them.

At the first visit, he knew what was wrong and said it would be an easy fix. With just 3 visits, I was discharged. Ultimately, the most important thing to remember is to do your exercises at home. That's half the reason I saw results as quickly as I did! Highly recommend.

After 5 years of dealing with pain in my lower back (L3, L4 & L5) and going through physical therapy early on in that time frame I decided I needed to try one more time. My family physician recommended Dr Karl and I started seeing him about 4-5 weeks ago. I went through 7 sessions with Dr Karl. The 1st session was life changing. I came into the office, described what I was experiencing and then Dr Karl took a look at me and noticed my spine was out of alignment as well as one leg being shorter than the other. He did an adjustment on both sides of me and I went from being in significant pain to basically no pain that day. I went through 6 more sessions with him learning stretching and strengthening exercises. I completed my last session 2 weeks ago and I feel extremely better to where I have no pain or very little pain. After my last session I went on a golfing trip and have to say that I haven't felt that good in more than 5 years. I would highly recommend Dr. Karl!!! PS. Cindy also manages the office pretty well! While there was some arthritis, he determined, after some diagnostic tests, the problem was my leg—the miniscus was out of place. He explained clearly and did an adjustment. Experiencia fantástica: I had been to the doctor for extreme pain in my hand. My doctor did multiple tests and treatments on my hand. Next he sent me to physical therapy for my hand. My visits with the doctor and the physical therapist brought NO relief. My physical therapist suggested I see Dr. Karl Scheaffer. I walked in, told him my story, and within minutes he said the pain in my hand was actually coming down from my neck. He devised a plan specific to my needs. I felt so incredibly better after my first visit. A few more visits and I can say I have not felt this good in years. Thank you Dr. Karl and Cindy for the welcoming atmosphere, the quick diagnosis, the help with insurance hoops, and most of all COMPLETE HEALING!!! I cannot recommend this office enough. Five stars is just not enough!!!

Experiencia negativa: I am not a fan of this practice and I would not go back. My insurance was charged $135 for Karl to watch me stretch for 20 minutes. He gave me lifts for my shoe and charged me $30 for them without telling me there would be an additional fee. I was not charged until I stopped going to him. He did not listen to me when I said the stretches were causing me more discomfort. I felt he lacked a caring nature. I will not go back to him post surgery.

After multiple hospital visits, doctor visits, and scans during our first visit Dr. Sheaffer found both her knee and ankle were out of place. He had her walking without a boot after the first visit. We wish we would have found him immediately after her injuries. I would highly recommend OPTS.

I was usually disappointed in the lack of constants in therapy, getting a different young therapist every session . Dr. Sheaffer’s one on one personal attention and treatments puts all the big guys to shame. Thanks, Doc, I am on my way to getting my life back!

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Karl Sheaffer was highly recommended by friends. They stated that he is a professional and an expert in his field. I was amazed how quickly my injury improved by completing the prescribed exercises at home which I am still doing to increase my motion range. Dr. Sheaffer conducted each session himself which allowed him to closely monitor my progress. His encouragement made it easier to complete each recovery stage. The PA at the surgeon’s office was very pleased with my progress and commented on how meticulous Dr. Sheaffer’s treatment notes were that were forwarded to their office. Cindy also made scheduling each session very easy. I highly recommend OPTS.

Experiencia fantástica: At my first session, Dr. Karl immediately noticed that my talus bone was out of place and adjusted it. I had almost immediate relief after weeks in a boot. OPTS had convenient hours that I could schedule around my work day. The other thing that i really likes about it is that I did not have a huge facility charge because he is not part of a large network. I will say he’s not very chatty but he knows his stuff!

Experiencia fantástica: My daughter has went to Dr. Sheaffer on two different occasions. The first time, she was 9 years old and had a left leg ankle injury. We went to CHOP to see an Orthopedic Surgeon who did an xray and put my daughter in boot for 4 weeks. She missed the entire softball season. They never saw a break on the xray, but based on the location of the injury and swelling, they told me she had a break in the growth plate. After 4 weeks, they removed the boot and she was still in pain. They recommended physical therapy. We found Dr. Sheaffer through a friend whose daughter had a similar ankle injury. Within the first 5 minutes of meeting Dr. Sheaffer, he looked at her feet and could tell there was no break in the ankle, but her ankle was out of alignment. He performed a few exercises on her and fixed her ankle within minutes. She was pain free and back to sports immediately. The second time we went to Dr. Sheaffer she was 11 years old. My daughter has had knee issues since she was around 7 years old. She is very active in multiple sports throughout the year. When her knee issues first started, we saw a local Orthopedic Surgeon recommended by our pediatrician. He told us her knee issue was related to her going through a growth spurt and to wear padded knee braces that had a foam cushion to keep the knee cap from sliding out of place. She has worn knee braces for all sports ever since and her knee cap would continue to dislocate (specifically her right knee). A few weeks ago she was at a winter softball clinic and her knee dislocated during a batting drill causing significant swelling and pain. We went to urgent care, they did an xray and they recommended follow up with an Orthopedic. At our follow up with Orthopedics, they recommended an MRI and physical therapy. We got the results from the MRI which showed a complete tear of the meniscus in her right knee, but they said it was an old injury and recommended surgery. Surgery for my 11 year old daughter. We had already had scheduled PT with Dr. Sheaffer for the same day and Ortho recommended going to the appt. I'm so glad we did. Dr. Sheaffer again looked at her MRI report as well as her knees and feet. He performed a few tests on both her legs and based on those tests he could tell her right tibia was out of place at the knee. Within the first 5 minutes, he popped her tibia back in place. My daughter felt it and we all heard it pop. The pain went away within two days. She attended all three of her sports practices/games that same weekend and did not wear any knee braces for the first time in four years. The swelling completely disappeared with the few times we had physical therapy. I would recommend Dr. Sheaffer for anyone needing physical therapy. He has been wonderful at addressing the issue at the root cause with both of my daughters injuries instead of jumping to surgery. My daughter does have a completely torn meniscus, but that has not been the reason for her knee issues. Being hyermobile was the prime reason for the tibia coming out of place years ago which caused the "old" completely torn meniscus. We will not be having surgery thanks to Dr. Sheaffer.

Experiencia fantástica: Dr. Karl Sheaffer is the best physical therapist I've ever been too, and I've had knee and back problems since I was in middle school. He is always very thorough when evaluating a new condition, and is often able to pinpoint the problem within a very short time and correct the issue quickly. In addition on more complex cases, Karl will think outside the standard practices to ensure the patient is able to improve. I had a total knee replacement due to sever trauma when I wad 30 years old, and had significant scar tissue as a result of the trauma and surgery. He worked with me 5 days a week to ensure the my knee healed properly and I am now able to walk without a limp or cane. He even worked with my primary care physician to identify and treat hyper nerve sensitivities as a result of the surgeries and trauma to my knee. I've never had a physical therapist so hands on and concerned with my well being and I don't think I would be walking without a cane if it wasn't for his physical therapy.

I always recommend Dr. Sheaffer, he is without a doubt, the best in the area. Personable and Friendly. I trust Dr. Sheaffer, my family & I have been coming here since he opened. He has FIXED our shoulders, knees, feet, neck and backs! NO SURGERY! So before going for surgery, let Dr. Sheaffer evaluate your symptoms, a minor tear doesn't always require surgery, just PT. If you do require surgery, TELL your surgeon where you are going for P.T. and Don't let them tell or sway you otherwise, You do have a CHOICE in your healthcare. They always "recommend" their own in house P.T. factory, not the best Physical Therapist.

He has treated me & my children for a variety of injuries/issues over many years. Dr Karl is always spot-on with his diagnosis and treatments. His wife Cindy is cheery & keeps the front office running smoothly. I highly recommend this practice if you're in need of some PT magic!

Experiencia negativa: I had a horrible experience with "Dr." Sheaffer. I recommend you go well, anywhere else. The tl;dr version: In May of 2014 I developed a mild case of costochondritis and was refered for physical therapy. Based on the previous reviewer's good review and his fairly close proximity to my home, I decided to use Dr. Sheaffer for physical therapy. I was actually fairly impressed with how together his office seemed, his receptionist had no trouble processing my insurance, and took my credit card number to bill for anything that wasn't covered. There was not much of a wait and Dr. Sheaffer made a good first impression. It was slightly after this point when things started to go wrong. The manipulations he was attempting weren't doing what he expected, so he tried something new. It ended up causing sever additional pain in my chest and my sternum to cracking and popping, something it had never done before. The pain was bad enough that I thought about going into the ER. I ended up being able to get in to see the pain specialist I had gone orginally the next day instead. When I questioned him about it, he yelled at me and threw me out of his office. He then proceed to bill me for services he never performed. I confirmed this with his office, they then billed me again anyways. They had agreed to charge my credit card (which was on file) for any additional fees that weren't covered by my insurance. Instead they sent me to collections. Worst experience with a physical therapist for me to date.
