Experiencia negativa: The wait time is crazy. Staff that check you in for lab on day shift light skin ladies is very nasty in should not be working with people because her attitude is very nasty. When you are ill you should not have to deal with nasty people.

Experiencia negativa: There was this retired vet that served our country that is waiting outside cold. I checked on him because he was shivering. All he asked for was a blanket so he could warm up while he waiting for his family. When I asked for a blanket, the lady upfront gave me one at first, but when she realized I was headed for the door, she refused to give it to me. I explained that it was for a vet and he is directly outside shivering, waiting for his family she refused to give it to me. I am at a loss of words for this. That gentleman deserves at the very least a blanket. I almost got kicked out of here, trying to sneak him a blanket. What is going This man served his country and gave us our freedom. It truly sickens me. It's sad.... Truly sad. I'm still sitting here trying to find a way to get him something to keep him warm. I'd give him my shirt, but then I couldn't come in to take care of my sick fiance. I looked through my car but I don't even have my coat with me. It just makes me sad. Best believe when my fiance gets in to a room I am sneaking something out to him. I just pray his family is here before he needs it.

Experiencia negativa: There emergency room is a joke I had a broken nose and was told they don't treat that I had to go somewhere else so I went to Norfolk General and guess what they treated my broken nose and did x-rays i had to waste entire day leaving sentara care plex and going across the water for care. Do not waste your time here I've never been told we can't treat you because your nose is broken.

Experiencia negativa: This hospital is a joke and not a real hospital. Don't go here unless you only need a bandaid. My wife has a broken nose and can barely breath. Went to the Emergency room and was told by the doctor they don't reset a broken nose or do anything for them. They told her she would need to go see a specialist after it heals to break it again to align it. The time to align it is now before it heals. Not after if heals. The doctor told her that her primary care physician would need to refer her to a specialist. My wifes primary care physician told her to go to the emergency room. EMTs call this hospital Sentera Scareplex because of the lack of their ability to do anything and you can definitely see that if you go here

Experiencia fantástica: I just read your reviews and was really sad to see the bad reviews. My boyfriend had outpatient surgery Friday. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. We had a very small wait and after that everything went so smoothly. I was amazed to see how everyone worked so efficiently. No one seemed to be in a hurry, meaning they took time with us and answered all our questions. I was very impressed. BTW, we drove over an hour to get there, and would happily do it again

Experiencia negativa: Terrible , absolutely terrible. Currently 28 weeks pregnant went there due to the fact I had severe blurry vision, I couldn't move i was very stiff , my eyes rolled back and I couldn't control my hand shaking. Came to l&d bc I was guided to by my ob, and expressed all my symptoms that have been there for awhile. I never seen a doctor. I was told the doctor saw my labs said I'm fine and to home after I was PROMISED AND REASSURED that I will be speaking to a doctor. This happened twice now where I'm dismissed and not truly heard. Told my baby is fine (thank god) and vitals are fine. I received my discharge papers and it said I was being seen for fainting or passing out which I never said, and on the back of the page it listed symptoms to look out for and here lord and behold is my symptoms and I expressed these and I got dismissed. Never saw a doctor, never spoke to anyone but nurses who kept saying we are waiting on the provider. Just to tell me she LEFT AND THAT IM GOIN HOME . Ridiculous. I'm not coming back

Experiencia negativa: I don't think i've ever been treated worse in any situation. I have endstage kidney failure. I needed to go to the ER and I was unable to reach my family that did not know where I was.I lost my phone I could not reach them. I have to being treated in the ER it was the middle of the night and I had no way to get home. No one I could call. So I tried to rest in one of the chairs for several hours, but the security guard kept purposely, intimidating me and trying to wake me up every few minutes. I had already explained to him. I had no way to get home and I needed to wait for the buses to run. Or try to figure out how I could reach anyone.Because I can't remember anyone's number. When the security guards switched shifts, the second security guard made me leave the building in the middle of night and I had nowhere to go. My family put out a missing persons report. When they originally called the hospital, the hospital had complete disregard for my whereabouts. Until my family got the police involved. This is by far the worst hospital because of their hospital employees. I have no issues with the nurses are the doctors that took care of me that night, per se. But the Sentara hospital hires security guards who are abusive, dismissive, and are bullies. No one should be abused at a hospital, not emotionally mentally or physically. It should be a safe place for everyone. But SANTERA is failing miserably.

Experiencia negativa: "**WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!** Took my 3-week-old niece to the ER, and it was a nightmare from the start. One of the nurses changed her diaper, but she put it on so tight that it cut off my niece's circulation. Her hands and feet started turning blue, and when we asked the nurse, she casually said, ‘It’s fine.’ 30 minutes went by, and my niece’s condition worsened. We realized it was because her diaper was on too tight, restricting her circulation! The level of incompetence from both the nurses and doctors was unbelievable. This hospital is a disaster and should be shut down immediately!!"

Experiencia negativa: I was in the er today, as my elbow has been bothering me for sometime with no relief. They took me back for xray first. Brought me back to the waiting room, than brought me back and said my wife couldn't come back with me. After about roughly 20 minutes a provider comes in and said it's ten is elbow. I was discharged soon after that. Get back to my wife, and she's looking at my mychart and says "but your xrays are not even back yet?" We decided to just go get my prescriptions. My wife decided to check my mychart again while we were waiting at the pharmacy and the xrays are back, they state that they can't rule out a fracture. So I call up there try to ask if it's fractured or not and get transferred to a voicemail. It's now been hours and I've still yet to hear back from anyone on if it's indeed fractured or not! This is unacceptable!

Experiencia positiva: I was here with my mother in December and again in May. Our last stay in May was due to an emergency surgery. One of the nurses that really stood out was Satauri!!! She treated my mother the way she would have treated her own. She was so helpful and actually listened to us and made adjustments accordingly she was highly professional and still managed to feel like family. She really should be recognized for her nursing skills and the care she gives. It's authentic. Our last visit to the ER was rather hectic. We did wait for hours and were summoned to a hall, then finally a room. Tianna is the stand out in this department. She hustles. She listens to the patient and the family, and she knows her stuff. She made the experience a good one. I remembered her from the visit we had last Christmas Eve. She was accommodating she saw I was sleeping half on a chair and half on the foot of my moms bed and got me a recliner from somewhere. Exceptional nursing skills and human skills. These two nurses get 5 out of 5 stars .

Experiencia negativa: These hospitals are jokes, my mom came to Sentara & didn’t eat the entire time. She was there for about 3/4 days. Do you think they noticed or cared. Nope, she came home and died a few days later. Thank you for looking after my loved one the way a dog would look after a dead mouse. Don’t bother with the heartless response on how I can reach out to an 1-800 number or patient’s advocate services (no such thing). I just wanted to express how horrible this hospital is and hope this never happens to anyone else.

Experiencia fantástica: Thank you Sentara for your excellent care for my family as we navigated through end-of-life decisions as my brother passed away. I've never experienced such genuine compassion from so many hospital personnel before. I always appreciated the warm welcome from the front desk every time I entered the building. Even the cafeteria staff were always helpful and cheerful. You've succeeded tremendously well in creating a culture of excellence at this facility. I especially want to commend the incredible nurses working in the ICU. Neoma George, Barbara McArthur, Laarni Paulin, Tonja Moore, and Sandy Villegas were each highly skilled but, more importantly, they were unbelievably empathetic and comforting. I cant imagine enduring our experience without their kindness and generosity. We were blessed to receive expert care from all of the doctors we met. I must especially commend Dr. Mit Patel for his guidance and compassion through our hardest hours. On behalf of our entire family I thank you Dr. Patel. Thank you Sentara for making our difficult journey immensely more bearable. Sincerely, Bill Goudelock

Experiencia negativa: Today I took my father to the Medical Office Building (4000 Building). My father is very handicapped. Requires the use of his rollator (he cannot ambulate extremely long distances due to his inability to maintain an erect position). When we pulled to the main entrance to the 4000 building, there were two cars in the drop off area. One was parked in a horizontal position with two males in the car. Tempe other had a driver. There were also Sentara vans (which appeared to be their delivery vehicles) parked at the entrance. All preventing me from dropping my father at the entrance. Huge disappointment and frustration. Finally, the one vehicle with the one individual pulled out allowing us to get close to the entrance. After parking the vehicle to meet my father, I asked the two males if they were picking someone up, to which they replied yea. I said could you please pull forward to allow others to get in you are preventing others from getting to the entrance who need it. They utter inappropriate comments to which I ignored. I went to meet my father, then decided I needed to report this incident e aide it’s not the first time this has occurred. I asked to speak Security. I was transferred to a dispatcher who was unable to answer my questions about whether they have security patrolling their lots (which I have never seen on any of my over 50 trips to this facility)!!! He also would not send someone to speak to me at the entrance to this building to deal with the situation preventing my father not other guests from entering FREELY-who are handicapped!!! This is a violation of the rights of those who have a disability (unless I am wrong)-I will be reporting this to the appropriate authorities for proper follow up. IF this were a true situation needing the immediate attention of Sentara’s Security, I and my father would have been left without assistance (short of dialing 911). I was transferred to the Patient Advocate (even though I asked if I would be able to speak to someone, this dispatcher IGNORED my request and simply forwarded my call to an answering machine. I left a message and have not heard anything from this department.

Experiencia fantástica: I’ve now had two visits here within 10 days. I’m 47 and very picky about where I’ll go for treatment. The first visit was a procedure and the second was an ER visit. The intake room is ancient and outdated, but it seems they’re working on it. Once checked in the treatment was speedy and the staff was fantastic. I went in at 7pm on a Tuesday when most staff are gone for the day so I was a bit freaked out it would take a long time, but all was fantastic.

Experiencia negativa: New procedure at the ER- Vertical Care. BE FOREWARNED I am a patient that has been seen @ this ER several times in the past 10 years, and have always had a good experience/outcome. On my most recent visit I was specifically sent to the ER/ED by my PCP for imaging for a potential kidney stone but also for severe abdominal pain. There is a new Vertical Care protocol in place, where they have portioned off some of the ER to care for less critical patients, basically acting as more of an Urgent Care. I theoretically understand the reasoning for this. Their execution of this plan, however, was horrific. NO dedicated waiting area for patients within the department while we were waiting on rooms...we were just stuck on hard plastic chairs in the hallway of the ER for an hour. The patient care coordinator checked us in going right down the row asking us personal information, which I'm fairly certain is a HIPPA violation. I was then finally ferried into a room with a reclining chair, but that was only to put an IV line in (badly, I'm still heavily bruised and swollen). Then I was stuck in a room with a repurposed small sofa and an even smaller chair to wait for CT. I at least managed to secure a blanket and attempted to make myself comfortable. Was taken to CT and got my results after another 1.5 hours, managed to steal a pillow from a nice nurse on the way back. The PA that attended me was courteous but utterly unhelpful. I came in complaining of severe abdominal pain, and was not once asked what my pain level was or where it was located. While waiting for discharge I got a 'roommate's, and then I KNOW they violated this young woman's HIPPA information because they went over her medication list etc with me sitting 5 feet from her. THEN, they proceeded to perform an EKG having to lift her shirt and exposing her to whoever knows what with the door wide open- I just put my phone in front of my face to give her as much privacy as possible. Finally, they came and freed me. I have no idea if this is the future of Emergency Medicine but dear God I hope not. I will never willingly enter that ER unless they wheel me in on a stetcher.

Experiencia negativa: If you ate diabetic be warned. I have been diabetic for 36 years. I was at Careplex to get gallbladder surgery. Leading up to the operation, I was in control of my diabetes using my insulin pump. The issues occurred when doctors tried to control my diabetes and never bothered to call my endo. I asked to see the hospitals endochronologist and they said they didn't have one. This should have been a warning sign. The night before the surgery they instructed me to take my pump off at midnight but according to the nurse, I would not get insulin until 6 am. My bloodsugar got high and they were not giving me insulin. I demanded they call the doctor and eventually I put my pump back on to control it. After surgery I could not use my pump so the doctors "gave me insulin". Their care resulted in me going into Diabetic Ketoacidosis which I was not in the hospital for to begin with. It took them 2 extra days to now treat my diabetes. Patients advocate service is not as great as it sounds. I filed a complaint because of the mismanagement of my diabetes and the internal review came back that I was treated correctly. This is unacceptable and shows that the hospital and doctors do not know how to treat diabetics and won't actually acknowledge their mistake. I have had major surgeries before and never got DKA in the care of a doctor before. If you are a diabetic mak4 sure if come here that you have a plan in advance with your doctor. The while experience felt that the doctors were not comfortable treating a diabetic and just kind of tried things out until something worked.

Experiencia negativa: This ER is a joke. No one knows anything of what’s going on. My mother’s information was all wrong in their system. Experiencia fantástica: I have been to this hospital numerous times. The ER is a disaster as far as getting a room. Over crowed due to people showing up that do not have an emergency. If you are well enough to sit and eat and drink sodas, you do not belong in the emergency room. The ER is not for colds or minor boo boos. See your doctor or Urgent Care if you don't have one. The staff is terrific. While waiting for a room, I've been taken for CT scans, blood draws, and EKGs. Ivr always been treated with respect from the doctors. I've been in this hospital on the 3rd floor serveral times. Sometimes, the same nurses. They are courteous and attentive. After being there 3 days one helped me take a shower and braided my hair. These nurses, doctors, and other staff work hard. Give them some credit.

Experiencia fantástica: The ED, registration, and security staff are wonderful! I was here a week ago and witnessed an event whom was in police custody. He was very belligerent and tried to throw a chair at his doctor. Security and police did a great job, but a patients family member came back yelling at everyone and making false accusations. I guess this is where the patient learned his behavior. The woman was extremely rude, condescending, and demanding to staff. Security attempted to calm her down but she became even more irate and disrespectful. These people are doing their jobs and saving lives and often are not given enough credit. Just because they work in public service does not give anyone the right to physically or verbally abuse them! Thank you CarePlex staff for not letting the few ignorant people deter you from being outstanding!!

Experiencia fantástica: I just got home after almost 2 weeks in the CCU. The staff - everyone from the nurses to the CNAs to the cleaning folks were A+. I understand what overcrowding does to the staff but when I was in critical but stable condition I was treated professionally and efficiently. I had my needs met in a timely fashion and by professionals. I understand that change of shift is Not the time to call on the staff. And no person can stop and run to answer your call light. They work hard to get people screened and seen especially in the ER. But then every ER in the country has its high and lower level intensity levels. If you are in a life threatening situation you will be seen sooner - it’s the way a hospital works. I know nobody wants to go to the ER but it happens to us all at certain points. They are aware of your presence and you will be seen. How do I know? I’ve worked behind the scenes as an NP. Please try some patience and understand that if you aren’t being seen right away it’s because the staff is dealing with a severe emergency or they are packed behind those doors. I have never seen anyone turned away…maybe unless there is a pandemic happening. I am thankful for the care I received - these folks saved my life!

Then a black Karen came out there Michael Washington with his big face came out there trying to be archie bunker. Karen the next time you try to be a black karen always remember God still love you even though you ugly!!! .i dont know who that nurse was but i know racism a mile away. The receptionist who was so pretty didnt get her name but she even prayed for my son. And it worked!! Another two security guards was so exceptional at their job was Ms. Helen who i will never forget. She was so loving.Thank you so much!!! And i think she said the other security guard was Tee or ty. Experiencia fantástica: I've been here for 3 days now in ICU. The care I have received is superior to any other hospital I've been to. The nurses really care and it shows. My nurse, Roza is topnotch. Sandy (also nurse) is an absolute asset to Sentara. Beautiful person. Antoinette (respiratory)was so patient and went out of her way to help me feel comfortable. Sara, the overnight nurse even helped me get through an anxiety attack. The doctors talk WITH you, not AT you. What a lovely group of people.Only downside is the food is AWFUL. Everything else is great. Seldom do I leave such lengthy reviews, but these nurses deserve appreciation for their commitment and kindness. Keep up the good work

Experiencia fantástica: My 94 year old mother was seen in the ER on Father's day 2024. The admission staff was professional and attentive. Her next encounter was with the ER Dr. Romano, who made sure that he covered every detail and his bedside manner was outstanding. The ER nurses Darby and Craig provided excellent care and went the extra mile to make sure my mom' s questions were answered. She was admitted to the Telemetry Unit and several staff members provided phenomenal care, Nurse Tyler, Nurse Colby, Nurse Laura, NCP Jacque and NCP Rita, to name a few. All of these individuals are truly a blessing to the medical profession and we are so grateful to have encountered them.

Experiencia negativa: If I could give it 0 stars I would. I have been trying to contact the cardiology department and they are not happy and when they do, they say that they have not received any referral from my medical plan. It is impossible that in a month of so many times that my insurance has sent them the referral and nothing has arrived. They even sent it to them by fax last week and supposedly it has not arrived either. I have the physical paper and they do not accept it either. It is very disappointing how they play with one's health.

Experiencia fantástica: Went to the ER while on vacation and had a wonderful experience from check in to while being treated in the ER. Ashton and Imani took very good care of me. Ashton insured I understood what was given to me and why. Imani was gentle while taking my labs and both young ladies were professional and respectful. Thank you!

Experiencia negativa: There is a reason I stopped coming to this hospital and only come as a last resort. I came in, in severe pain, could barely walk, was fortunate enough to go through intake quickly without issues. Once I was taken to the back I wait to be put in a room. Waited maybe 10 minutes, once in a room I waited over an hour for someone to even acknowledge me. The PA comes in does an “assessment” of my back gives me a shot which burned, and a back patch. After I was given the shot and back patch I was moved to what looked like a make shift room with 3 dingy chairs and old equipment. The PA come back and had me walk to another room to do another “assessment”, I explained to him it was painful to walk, yet he had me walk back to this dank and dingy room, while there were other room available. There is no care here, all you are, are nothing more than a number to get in and out. And yes, am writing this as am here in the hospital now.

Experiencia negativa: This is by far the worst hospital to go to. I sat in the waiting area for over 4 hours I did not get seen by a doctor and I came in there because my whole left side of my body was feeling really weird and tingling and I was confused but yet none of the doctors there seen me and I suffered a mild stroke in my sleep and I went to another hospital and I found this out because none of the doctors at here wanted to see me. My son just went in there tonight was there for 2 hours and a half and got taken back to a room where he said another hour and no doctor came in at least you got further than I did benelli's at another hospital because Sentara doesn't want to help their patients

Experiencia fantástica: We were at Sentara Careplex on May 23rd to have surgery for my husband's melanoma. We arrived at 7 am and were immediately greeted by the lady at the front information desk. She was so helpful and pleasant. We were directed to Paula in the outpatient surgery center. She was so energetic, had a big smile and went out of her way to be helpful. We then went to the Imaging Center where we were greeted by Michelle. She directed me to the waiting room and offered me a warm blanket while I sat in a very comfortable recliner. She and her staff were very nice to my husband while explaining the procedure. She then took us to to the surgery center where Kim was his nurse. Oh my gosh, Kim was delightful and so caring. She made sure my husband and I were comfortable while waiting for surgery. Her laugh was contagious and immediately we felt so relaxed. We would like to nominate Kim for a Daisy Award. No one deserves it more!! Dr. Jason Wilson arrived, carefully explained the surgery and asked if we had any questions. He did not rush out instead he took plenty of time to answer questions we had. It was great having the monitor card to watch how my husband was moving from one stage of the surgery to another. After the surgery, Dr. Wilson told me what he had done and how my husband was doing. We feel very lucky to have found Dr. Wilson. He's awesome! Michelle helped us process out of the hospital. She went over all the instructions for the days following the operation. She was very nice, patient and attentive. Thank you. Sentara, for taking great care of us from the beginning to the end.

Experiencia negativa: Still here but so far it is Worst hospital experience I’ve ever had came into the er with excruciating back and neck pain following a car wreck and I was given two pills for pain that didn’t work and left to sit for hours following X-rays , when I made staff aware that I was suffering my only option of assistance was a shot for the pain and absolutely no other option , staff didn’t even have the decency to bring me a hot or cold compress …… don’t come here staff and care is horrible and I’m sure Sentara knows but the hospital is still making them money so nothing will change

Experiencia fantástica: After spending 1 1/2 days from Emergency room to ICU, then 3 1/2 days in regular room, I can say my experience was first rate! I imagine those with good experiences just don’t do reviews, because I was surprised to see Sentara receive such a low rating. I was tended to quickly, skillfully and kindly during my entire stay! The medical staff was knowledgeable, thorough and prompt. Everyone was kind and respectful. My rooms were clean, food was fairly good, provisions were adequate. The most important consideration was my safety and restoration of my health, and for that I rate 5 stars! Thank you Sentara staff!

Experiencia negativa: Doctor Sara Jackson is extremely unprofessional and lied about taking steps during my visit which she did not. I went to the ER with a laceration, there was over a 2 hour wait to be seen. Upon being called back, the nurses were amazing! The "Doctor" Sara Jackson asked no questions, she did NOT clean my laceration, instead she shoved "quick clot" on my finger (spent 2-3 mins with me If that, very rushed) and left. 2 weeks later I get a $1,600 bill.. for a 2 hour wait and a piece of quick clot the size of a piece of trident gum! Definitely contacting the BBB.

Experiencia negativa: Admin staff mainly the receptionists need to understand patients and visitors are in a difficult situation and not in the mood to chitchat with them. I understand plesantaries but if you wish to chitchat and throw attitude while people are already going through emotional upheaval you better find a coffee shop and not a hospital. Experiencia negativa: Absolutely disgusting hospital. People were being thrown in chairs, blood drawn, sweating, on dirty chairs then told to get up and the next patient was thrown in with zero cleaning at all. The chairs were covered in dirt tip to toe. Floors piled with dirt. Sticky residue on everything. Sinks would not work. I was walked all throughout the hospital with zero regard for my well being yelling at the nurses that I couldn’t feel my hands and feet my head was spinning and ringing yelling I’m going to pass out as they forced me to walk to the next room as I ran into stuff. Front of the hospital had medical supplies (bandages, dirty gloves, ect) laid all over the entrance. At no point was I able to lay down until I just laid on the floor because I couldn’t hold myself up anymore. The nurses laughed at that and the fact I couldn’t hold myself back and kept leaning forward. My fiancé was not allowed back at anytime and was given no information about my care. They had a homeless man with no pants on just sitting with everything out in the hallways. I was told I was dehydrated and put onto an IV only for them to take it off within about 3 minutes and wasn’t hooked back up until 3 hours later. After they let the blood dry into my IV. I’ve never in my life felt like I was in a 3rd world hospital until today. It’s absolutely disgusting. Can’t wait to get the standard reply you’ve given to ALL these reviews saying it’s disgusting and all you can reply is oh we can’t discuss this over social media. CLEAN YOUR HOSPITAL AND GIVE PEOPLE A PLACE TO FEEL SAFE AND CARED FOR!!!

Experiencia negativa: Normally I have a good experience here. I was there two days ago and just felt disregard from the physician. I got a migraine medication for back pain then sent to another room and waited an hour for another medication to come from upstairs. Experiencia negativa: My experience with Sentara Careplex was awful. The restrooms in the ER are extremely dirty and nasty. I waited an hour to see a doctor and nurse. They only came in because I asked if someone was assigned to me. The nurse never came back to check on me nor did the doctor. Five hours later they came in and provided my results and discharge papers. The doctors and nurses were all on their cellphones sitting at desks. The doctor also ordered invasive bloodwork for me that was for another patient in another room. If it wasn't for the tech questioning why I was getting the bloodwork, they would have taken it. I come to realize the medical doctors and staff do not care about their patients maybe "some" in a different caliber but NOT ALL. Sentara has gone down but have lots of money to build pretty buildings or expand their buildings. They need to use the funds to educate there staff on how to treat people.

Experiencia negativa: Reason number 3! I took my second child (8months) to this hospital yesterday/this morning (it was late at night) due to diarrhea and him having a fever of 104.2. I got checked in and the nurse tried to get my baby’s rectal temp while I was not only holding him, but holding him straight up……a very very incorrect way to take a baby’s rectal temp. I then proceeded to put him down and do it the correct way. Moving on to the waiting room, I was put in two dirty rooms. (I will include pictures below). After these two dirty rooms and the rectal temp incident, I was ready to leave due to being very uncomfortable with the possible treatment that was coming to my baby. I then proceeded to the nurse triage station to possibly check out my child to take him to CHKD hospital instead and giving her the reasons. I began to tell her the story of my previous baby’s doctor visit, to which the doctor sitting being her (Ashley) proceeded to cut me off and say “I’ll be in there in one minute if you’d like to wait” as if she was offended by the story I was telling that had nothing to do with her. To make this story shorter, she asked questions and did not let me get a word out due to her misconceptions on how I possibly felt about her as a doctor…which was wrong. As I was telling the triage nurse, I just don’t think that this hospital is good with babies because it’s not their specialization. So she ended the appointment by saying that his tests all came back negative and his X ray was good but he had to burp so “burp him” as if I didn’t already tell her that he was pooping a lot of very thin watery diarrhea….duh you probably saw a gas bubble! His stomach most likely doesn’t feel good. Also, for her information, the need for burping a baby ceases after 6 months. She then said that the fever is coming from teething…and anyone with kids and ALL pediatricians know that you can’t get a fever that high from teething!!!! And depending on which pediatrician you go to they may say/believe that you can’t get a fever at all from teething. So to say his fever of 104.2 (which I have pictures of) came from teething is very very wrong. Throughout the whole appointment she was talking as if she had something to prove to me in regards to her being a “good or bad” doctor. All I was explaining to the triage nurse was that this hospital his not geared toward babies and telling her what had just happened to that I wanted to leave. Ashley should have just minded her business and the appointment would have just been cancelled or gone smoother depending on if the triage nurse convinced me to stay like Ashley did. Reason number 4 While getting checked in last night, the front desk associate asked for my baby’s SSN. I then proceeded to tell ask her “he’s a minor, don’t you want MY social?”….I don’t even remember the response. The training here for minors/babies is horrible. GET BETTER BABY TRAINING FOR YOUR STAFF IF YOY ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO ACCEPT KIDS!!

Experiencia negativa: 1 star is being generous, & is lowest rating permitted, but 0 stars is warranted. This place is ridiculous! I had a family member brought in at 9 PM via ambulance, & wasn’t assessed by anyone until nearly 2 AM AFTER passing out. The nurse wasn’t even urgent in helping to get them back into a bed. After finally receiving an IV (after asking for water for 5 hours straight), we were left to listen to it beep for 15 minutes after it finished, as a few nurses sat on their phones. The lack of urgency in this ER is scary and downright dangerous. Avoid coming here, if at all possible…

Experiencia negativa: Do not go to this hospital. They do not care about you as a person nor as a patient. I tried to go back to my wife’s room after coming back inside from smoking a cigarette and some old white dude kept telling me I need a “new” badge after I clearly have a badge already since I had been there for 6 hours at that point. Then the lady at the front desk was taking care of me while this old nurse or whatever he is was in my ear talking about a badge after the lady said I was good to go back. I told the old dude to quit talking to me and then got kicked out by somebody entirely different and they didn’t explain anything to my wife or her mother. I feel I got discriminated against because I’m a white male with a black female. He was rude and nobody at this hospital even cares. Don’t waste your time. Experiencia negativa: I brought my father into the Emergency Room in a wheelchair because he had extreme abdominal pain. He passed out from pain 3 times in their waiting room and after 30 minutes of my father suffering from intense pain and repeatedly passing out all while ER staff seemed completely unbothered and inattentive we decided to leave and go to a different ER. He was seen and treated immediately elsewhere and found to have a perforation in his bowel. Sentara ER managed to make a horrible situation worse and I can only say don't bother going here unless you want to die in the waiting room.

The staff at the front desk, triage nurses and the care providers in the department all have shown me such compassion. Experiencia negativa: The main hospital is definitely better than the ER. They are short staffed on experienced personnel and those that give a damn. The night shift is worse. Night shift ER doesn't let you go back and see the person you brought in for security reasons. Too many incidents of overdoses and junkies. Saw one dude licking the walls in the waiting area. Sheriff department and hospital security are all active during the night shift. They lack any diagnostic functions and only treat acute symptoms. Even diagnostic care takes an act of Congress to get anywhere with Sentara. The ER is not the place for mental disorders, only physical injuries, but you get them all rushing in wasting time. Sentara is definitely better than Riverside. Hence 2 stars, vice one, but not by much. Unless your bleeding or immediately dying, your going to be sent home no matter what condition your in. You won't get the better diagnosis on the weekend, only the weekday you have a better chance of getting the doctor that has experience. The operator is untrained and really just transfers you regardless if anyone is there on the other line. The website still has COVID precautions and hasn't been updated.

Experiencia negativa: My child required reconstructive foot surgery with Dr. Paul Maloof. The Careplex staff, along with Sentara security, kept my son, along with several other severely injured orthopedic patients standing outside, telling us we had to call a designated number to be let in....We kept calling the number and it just kept ringing, keeping injured surgery patients waiting outside. I asked to speak with management, and the Careplex staff ignored my request completely and instead directed me to please go in to check in at front desk with a staff member. I asked again, and was told it was an old COVID policy from the peak if COVID time and they just never returned/modified it back to allowing folks access through the automatic main entry doors to Careplex ever since. I said I understand why it may have been initiated back during peak of COVID, but it is extremely inconsiderate and insensitive to ailing and severely injured patients requiring surgery to make them wait outside and on top of it, have no dedicated person at the door to immediately engage them and let them in. Very unprofessional to fail to circle back around and reevaluate a peak COVID enacted policy, that is likely obsolete in regards to the benefits now currently outweighing the impacts/consequences to patients, and one has to ask how can such a major hospital system fail to overlook such a basic patient need/reasonable accommodation.

Experiencia fantástica: I was at Careplex ED in June for a dog bite. I walked to the door and a lady sitting at a desk just inside told me to sit for a moment and to go to register when that chair was empty. Within minutes I was seen by a nurse and then taken to a room followed by a team of people. The first question was, other than aspirin what blood thinners are you on. It took a while to complete all the treatment but everyone was polite and competent at their work. Thank you to everyone who helped me that day. It's not where I wanted to be but the staff was great. doing but

Experiencia negativa: This hospital feels like a dirty McDonald’s that you have to wait forever for fast food. There are drunk homeless people stumbling around the ER, food spilled all over the floors and the lady who checks people in is incredibly rude and thinks she’s taking orders for value meals.

Experiencia negativa: The ER sent my 87 year old mother home with a fractured patella, a very serious injury. It happened on a Saturday, gave her crutches and told her to contact her orthopedic surgeon to get surgery. My mother couldn't contact him until Monday. She would have been in extreme pain for a few days. In fact, she fainted a few times after she got home because it was difficult for her to use crutches at her age due to not having upper body strength and being in pain. We ended up taking her to the ER at Riverside the following day, they did x-rays and could not believe Sentara sent her home with a serious injury. She was admitted at Riverside immediately, they managed her pain and their orthopedic surgeon took care of her. Shame on Sentara for treating an elderly person this way!

Experiencia negativa: The wait time in the ER is ridiculous! I bought my daughter in at 2pm. We waited eight hours before they called her back. The person she spoke with wasn't authorized to prescribe medication. It is now 10 pm and we are still here, WAITING.

Experiencia negativa: This place is terrible. I thought norfolk general was bad . But this place takes the cake. The patients are nothing more than a folder to clear and there is a treat em and street em mentality especially from Dr Mohammed. Ultrasound tech actually asked me to handle a family member testes without ppe so she could perform an ultrasound. This place is definitely where the LOWEST of the graduating class goes to work

Experiencia fantástica: I have been to Sentara Complex emergency room a total of five times in the past few months. I had to go to emergency first (per my doctor).and was admitted to the hospital for a few days on my first visit. The service was outstanding. No long wait in the emergency room. I had shingles in my head and eye for the first three visits. The second issue was for acute hyponatremia. Each time I was treated with compassion , respect, and I knew my medical issue was important to them. I will not mention any specific names as they were all excellent. I would be afraid I would leave someone out. Thank you Sentara Complex for being there for all of us. Bonnie L. Hulton T

Experiencia negativa: I arrived here after being sent by Urgent care with extreme pain and blood in my urine. When I left urgent care my blood pressure was already 161/101. (hypertension)When I arrived to the ER and was triaged my blood pressure was 189/109 (hypertension) which was ironically left off my paperwork. However, I use to work in the ICU at the Sentara in Norfolk, so I know this was done on purpose because triage knew that had made a BIG mistake by allowing me to sit in the waiting room for over two hours. I passed out 3 times from the pain and could not pee because a kidney stone was causing a blockage in my urethra. I was persistent about seeing a doctor and told them I felt like something was bursting inside of me. They responded with “well we have no beds sorry.” After I saw at least 10 people go back. I am not saying I warranted more attention than any other person sitting in that waiting room but, my vitals would have said otherwise had they been properly documented and I had been properly triaged. At one point I was more concerned about going into cardiac arrest than I was the darn kidney stone! Once I got back, the nurses and and doctors were quick to respond to what was going on and I’m thankful for that. However, if you have a medical emergency that needs immediate attention I would highly recommend not it going here!

Experiencia negativa: My husband came in for serious stomach pains. He was at home vomitting blood so we came to ER. I understand rules are rules but don't have me go to visitors desk and wait in line to get visitors pass to tell me when my husband gets called to the back that visitors aren't allowed. It's very contradicting and a waste of time. What was the point of telling me to get the pass in the first place. They need to get it together

Experiencia fantástica: I would have given this review 2 stars if I hadn’t had the experience I did today. I’ve been to this ER four times this year. The first three times I was there, I felt like they didn’t care and just wanted to hurry up and get rid of me. Well, today was my fourth time, and it was a completely different experience. I had the absolute pleasure to be helped by Jan James, PA. She was hands down the best PA, Doctor, or Nurse I’ve ever had in my life. She showed genuine concern, and went above and beyond to make sure I was treated for exactly what I needed to be treated for. She printed out my x-rays, showed them to me, and went over in detail what she was seeing and what her concerns were. NO ONE has ever done that before. I felt so relieved that I finally had someone who was truly going to help me, and not just shoo me out the door. I was literally in tears from relief. I felt heard, I felt cared about, and I felt like I mattered. She is the epitome of what all healthcare workers should be. Thank you Jan James. I will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed me today

Experiencia fantástica: After a week of horrible abdominal pain I went to the Sentara Careplex ER. Despite being in pain my experience was a positive one. My nurse Carly was extremely kind, attentive, and empathetic. She maintained a calm and kind demeanor despite rude and ungrateful patients. Experiencia negativa: I’m literally watching my REPORTEDLY LOST/STOLEN phone move around from the ER (my husband and I called approximately 6 mins after being discharged to report that the phone was most likely in the 2 blankets/2sheets on the gurney) to the Medical offices right now after speaking with “Monique” who said she has NO BOSS available who we could speak to and they’d tell me the same thing. That I signed away my RIGHTS to my phone or any other personal property being stolen while receiving subpar medical care from the ER staff. Monique claimed SHE looked in ER room 2 and asked my nurse. I highly doubt that due to her condescending attitude when returning to the phone in 3 mins. Watching FIND MY PHONE the past 8 hrs, or at least while awake is bananas. My phone sat idling in the ER DEPT until daylight… now it’s on the move. This after being told MY PHONE WAS NOT THERE and I’m telling Monique, oh yes, it is. My husband returned back to the ER after getting nowhere with “no boss” Monique, and asked to speak with UPPER mgmt or security. He was denied. I, with chest pains, remained in the car. I assured him if they didn’t care about ME as a patient, no one cares about my cell phone being what I considered now STOLEN. I wonder if the PLAYING ALERT sound for most of the morning bothered the thief or perhaps the adorable picture of our youngest granddaughter on my locked screen haunted he/she before my phone was marked LOST! Verizon told me to file a police report…. Jermel, my initial nurse was heaven sent but would be clocking out in 23 mins after getting me hooked up and hydrated after my almost 2 hr wait in the lobby. To think I was about to be FAST TRACKED for ongoing chest pains was alarming when I arrived. Yes, if I wasn’t vomiting with ACTIVE diarrhea in that wheelchair, the admission nurse considered FAST TRACKING my chest pains because I’d been seen for the same reason with SCH this week (Dr. Rossler sp? was phenomenal 5/29, nurse Annie as well). Dr. King should never use the phrase when speaking to any patient, “I was busy with a patient who more sicker than you”. When I tell you, God himself stopped me from using choice words AGAIN after that comment, it was GOD himself. Once again, because I REPORTED, I BELIEVE, Dr. King for using that comment in the past and had to remind him YET AGAIN, no patient wants to hear, feel or believe they aren’t worthy or the same care or treatment as the next patient. He tried to clarify by saying, “Well, not breathing,”. Say what now? His bedside manner is atrocious and is masked with LOUD talking, giggles and “remarkable” cover up words that he believes no one understands. He needs to either choose being a physician or comedian because both are sketchy right now. Dr. King is to never tell me or my husband he is trying “to save me/us money by re-running test, but if you want me to take your money, I will”. My question to my husband after Dr. King's semi melt down that ended with me finally being HEARD or seen was this, what does he say to the patients who don't have money or health insurance and why are we discussing "taking my money" when my health, I feel, is in question? Yes, all of this was said BEFORE I received pain and nausea medication (5hrs later, diarrhea and vomiting on that gurney, numerous calls to be assisted with disconnected monitors to run to the restroom. Being admonished by nurse Tiana because my husband disconnected an entire IV machine from a pole to save my (dignity). It was all downhill from there. Or, so we thought. The thief has now turned off my phone! Sentara CarePlex Hospital ER Dept staff, some, need to consider resigning for a myriad of reasons. These reviews are life threatening, disheartening, horrible, and unremarkable.

Experiencia negativa: The hospital staff was great with the exception of your ER entrance staff..For some reason it's the same timeframe 1am she is rude to all. It's not our fault she has to work the dog shift. Should have invested in your future and u may not would have to be here.

Experiencia negativa: Firstly, I went in at 1 didn't leave till 7. Yes 7. Had to miss my whole work shift. The doctor (dr.barbara mato) was not pleasant and she mumbled alot like she didn't want to be there and was not reassuring with the information she provided. She popped in the room twice for less than 1 minute guess she did not want to deal with me. The 1st nurse was VERY dry, and showed no empathy neither did the doctor. Thankfully the last nurse that helped was very informative and made me feel a little more comfortable. Everyone there BUT the 2 receptionists were just not good. Kudos to Annie at the front desk as she was the best person there and was working very hard !!! I was actually scared to be here because I did not feel like I was being taken care of. Man is screaming in the room across to get help as well because no one was attending to him.I can't believe this was my experience. Please if you need an er visit go to port Warwick or riverside.

Experiencia negativa: My mother got admitted here this past weekend due to breathing problems/chest pains, then all of a sudden she couldn’t catch her breath and started throwing up. Multiple nurses came in, and while two were helping her, there were three others just standing around talking about how they “never get the quiet shifts” and how they always hear about people getting to watch YouTube on shifts while they can’t catch a break. As someone who was watching her mother in pain, that’s not something I want to hear from nurses just standing around in the room not contributing to her care.

Experiencia negativa: The white nurses treat patients like criminals. They act like all black people come to abuse opioids. Last time I checked the opioid crisis doesn't effect the black community as much as it does theirs. I came be treated for pain, nausea and vomitting which I was treated for while I was there (by black doctor) but the anti-inflammatory medication was taken off my prescription list when the nurse specifically said she would send Zofran and the anti-inflammatory to my pharmacy. Then they had the nerve to give me education paper on Opioids! This is the most racist hospital I've ever been to. Don't go

Experiencia negativa: I called on 2/9/23 to find out exactly where to do Labs at 3:43 pm. & the first operator switched me to an automated system which still did not tell me where to get labs done, only giving the address of the hospital. I needed to know WHICH ENTRANCE to enter. I knew the address to the hospital already. She hurried up & forwarded me with no help at all nor concern & I did not get an operator # from her. I had to hang up & call back. Upon my call back at 3:45 pm. I got a male operator & he really sound as if he did not want to be there, & sound tired & I told him so, he switched me to the same # & I played around with the options & finally reached a kind lady who took the time to tell me WHICH ENTRANCE to enter. Do better people & have the tenacity to help patients as we do not know where to go as big as your hospital is! Shame on you medical people who forget about the HIPPOCRATIC OATH once you're hired! Experiencia fantástica: I just had to go to this ER and I was initially very freaked out. The reviews here don’t look great but this was closest to home and I have had mostly good experiences with Sentara. I was extremely pleasantly surprised by my experience. My ER Dr was incredibly caring and helpful. My nurse Jessica was friendly and did everything with care and compassion. This was an awful medical experience that was made the best it could be by knowledgeable and compassionate providers. I think people should understand that our healthcare workers are still burnt out from the pandemic and recovering from that has been very traumatic for all of us. We all need and deserve compassion for that. Thank you for the great care Sentara Careplex.

Experiencia negativa: Rude entrance/greeting staff. I had to bring my mother from out of town at 3 am. Upon arrival, I was informed I needed an ID to get a visitor pass. I had to drive back home to get my wallet. Once I returned to the hospital, the same woman claimed only driver's licenses were considered valid forms of ID. Meaning unless you have a driver's license, you would not be permitted into the hospital at all. Then told me to leave my mom in the hospital alone and wait in the car because she couldn’t just manually take down the information from my military ID. Terrible customer service. And what if someone genuinely only had other valid forms of ID?

Experiencia negativa: this is the worst hospital in america! i’ve been staying in virginia for 40 years and have came to this hospital several of times because it’s closer to my residence and to would track after all these years that it will get better at this hospital, but every year it’s worst! this time they lost my urine ! how to you loose someone urine?…very slow, and once your in the back it’s even slower. nurses walk sons like they don’t care or don’t care to even be at work and it definitely shows. this hospital needs to hire professionally, motivated people who cares about coming to work to deal with sick individuals. it’s 2023 and they’re all the worst hospital ever! i hate coming here and will not recommend any one who needs vital care to come here. my advice, RUN!!! as fast as you can to another hospital!!!!

Experiencia negativa: Another bad experience at this Hampton Sentara Careplex. I had an MRI screening performed at this location. I returned to Sentara to obtain a copy of the MRI results. It was not crowded at all. I parked in the disabled parking location and slowly and painfully walked to the imaging reception desk. I only saw one other patient near the desk. There was a sign at the imaging desk saying be “back in a moment, please sit down.“. I waited and waited and waited and waited, no one came to the desk, then I gave up and painfully walked back to my car and drove home. I will have to avoid getting future medical services done at Sentara because their service is dismal.

Experiencia positiva: The only reason I'm giving three stars is because of the Radiology team tonight, nurse Morgan and Dr. K King. I had been in the ER from about 10:00 to 4:30 in the morning. I hit the buzzer to get some water because I hadn't drank anything in 5 hours, and have been crying all day that's the whole nother (Patient 1st) story. Either case about the water, someone said I'll be right there and never showed up. But you know who showed up, Morgan did with three cups of water for me and I greatly appreciate her doing that. I was feeling like I was forgotten, no one cared about me and she restored my faith in some nurses. I wish I knew who lied to me though. Dr Kelly did everything he could to find out what the issue was. I do appreciate that very much. Even though it was time consuming it was the effort that mattered. But everything else...just look at the other reviews that's all I'm going to say.

Experiencia negativa: No stars. Don't get me wrong there are a few people that care. But after today having a 6 year old needing antibiotics that aren't readily available and the lack of empathy from the charge nurse and the passing of the buck and having to clock out and go back there again....this place is falling to the wayside just like every where else. Too many people aren't willing to go the extra mile bc too many people dgaf. Humanity is truly lost when you can't even go to a hospital and know you will be properly cared for.
