Sunterra Springs Independence: Opiniones
Experiencia negativa: My sister was a resident for 11 days and the care was terrible! She ultimately passed away because of the condition she was in when she was finished there.
Experiencia negativa: I would not recommend this place for any living thing. Medication was given that should not have been. Intake paperwork was signed by someone that I never heard of. Waited for over an hour for someone to respond to the nurse call button. Short staffed/agency staffed. Hell, the facility cannot even figure out how to do laundry. My concerns were heard by management, but I believe that is just it. Heard

Experiencia negativa: My father died at Sun Terra in July 2024. His care was suboptimal. They were short on staff; utilized outside agency help that knew nothing about patients and the facility; on rounds the providers said two different times they would start breathing treatments but it never happened; they over-medicated him with narcotics to the point he could not participate in rehab; they agreed to stop the narcotics but this and other critical info repeatedly did not get passed on to other staff so the problem kept reoccurring. The staff shortage and lack of communication between staff made his treatment there a failure. I do not recommend Sun Terra. The U.S. needs to address staff shortages in healthcare facilities for seniors. The staff in these setting work 24/7 shifts; sustain all kinds of injuries secondary to lifting patients or being assaulted by patients with dementia; they do the nastiest work, yet their pay is not enough to put food on their table.

Experiencia negativa: I Wouldn’t send my dying dog here! This place is AWFUL. Dr T came by once every couple weeks(if that)you better sit there all day with your loved one to make sure they get the care they deserve. We were there 5+ weeks only for me to advocate for 2 chest X-rays for my father (which she put him on 2 rounds of a broad spectrum antibiotic, and never even cultured anything she’ (Dr T) just took a shot in the dark. I had to take his vitals all day everyday and tell them his blood pressure is low and he needed a low blood pressure pill. I was doing his breathing treatments. I did his laundry, but yet I had to go hunt down all of his laundry that they took out of his room. I had to do all their legwork. . They had me giving him ALL OF his medications. I don’t work there! But I did most all of their work . A centerpointe radiologist wanted a ct of my father’s lungs done asap and Dr. T dismissed it by saying he knows nothing about your father.(neither did she after week 1 there). Apparently my father was found on the floor here ant 12:30 anm and I never even got a phone call. They called it “ a non-injury fall” mind you they never x-rayed his body only at the hospital for them to tell me that he had swelling on his brain. Matter of fact they told me about it 4 hours after I had got there the following day and said they didn’t want to wake me up (and I never once told them not to call me and wake me up.)EVERYONE you come in contact with is from an “agency”and or it it’s their 1st day. Day help is decent except Nurse CHRISTINA is RUDE! how she’s a Rn I will never know. Sharon in the kitchen is AWESOME. CNA Pam is AMAZING (If only she could work 24 hours a day 7 days a week) people would be in great hands ( she can Run that place) give her a RAISE for god sakes!. Ricky was Always very nice and compassionate as well . Destiny only worked weekends was also AMAZING!! ( The Director of nursing) IS A Joke to say the least. I left her 2 voicemails and never even got a return phone call about all of the issues at this place.(8.5 weeks later and still waiting). My father went to a pulmonary Dr apt by transport only to be sent straight to the ER at St Luke’s from this place with his blood pressure in the 40’s then put straight in the ICU still here 3 weeks later. This place is NOT EQUIPPED TO EVEN ASSESS patients with their needs let alone meet any of their needs. When you hit a call light it’s automatically 45 minutes to get them into your room and then another 45 minutes to get them up off the toilet. Don’t let the nice building fool you. Oh and the nurse practitioner along with Dr T and their entourage that go up and down the halls with all the “Students” walking into everyone’s room they all leave by 1pm every day. So don’t send your family here if you care about them. Night crew is awful. I wouldn’t leave until I got my dad in bed with the help of family members. People were also bringing in straws and unthickened liquids with ice to my dad’s room nonstop Even with signs posted everywhere (make it make sense). A person shouldn’t have to sit there for 8 hrs a day to make sure your family member is SAFE!! Oh and let’s not forget the therapy dept. they would work with him early before 9am even with low blood pressure without giving him ANY medication beforehand to bring it up. They wouldn’t check his blood pressure during his therapy (like every other rehab did) with him having orthostatic blood pressure drops while doing therapy just milking his insurance and wondering why he wasn’t making any progress. I let his insurance company know weekly what they were doing here. The best therapist is the Sat girl can’t remember her name. She’s awesome she actually pushed him and got him up walking the first day we met her. Look elsewhere is the moral of this story. Owners don’t care about the care the residents are getting or lack there of. Oh, and the lady at the front desk she’s a real peach. She doesn’t even speak when people walk in and out of the facility. She’s the face of the company.

Experiencia positiva: This is the best option for skilled nursing in Independence, rooms are nice and big. There were a few issues with some of the staff, the night nurses and CNAs were not the best, and weekends were especially rough, although when I voiced my concerns to administrators they were responsive and I did notice some changes, however most of my communication had to be done in person as some were not returning phone calls, Stacie and the Director of Nursing did a good job with communication. My mom was there in the west wing for about a month, RN Emmanuel is an excellent nurse, caring, kind and considerate!! And CNA Pam Frazier is also excellent!! So professional and efficient, kind and just a good person!! They took such good care mom!! Nurse Christina on the other hand is rude and condescending, and refused to treat wound and follow Drs. orders, would yell at people in the hallways, time management classes would be beneficial for her as well. Other gold star nursing staff includes Jackie, Tatum, Margaret, Zee, and Keya! The physical therapy she received was top notch! Huge shout outs go to Jaimie, Martha, and Alan, they were patient and encouraging and got her home sooner than expected! I would recommend that if you have a loved one in a care facility that you spend as much time as you can with them because there were some issues and if they weren’t brought to administrative attention behavior could have continued. The food was ok most of the time, there were a few meals that left a lot to be desired. Housekeeping was lazy at first, I brought my own Clorox wipes to clean but it did get a little better after a complaint to admin. Overall her care was 100% better than the Villages at Jackson Creek!

Experiencia fantástica: The staff at Sunterra in Independence took exceptional care of me during my stay. The medical staff took excellent care of me. My nurse Clarissa was incredible. She went above and beyond in every aspect of my care. The therapy department was amazing in helping me in my recovery. Food service provided wonderful meals.

Experiencia positiva: I'm not sure if I'd choose this place again for a loved one, its care seems pretty hit or miss. I noticed several communication issues that included diabetes and between Sunterra and the hospital and not all of the staff are good. Its facilities, general cleanliness, and food seem to be pretty good, but you may want to activate your call button 20 minutes before you have to go to the bathroom depending on whose shift it is and I'd suggest finding somewhere else if you're dealing with a condition that's not apparent and needs constant management like severe diabetes.

Experiencia positiva: I am a current resident. I am stuck in a non functioning recliner. I am across the room from the call button. I have tried making a lot of noise t o get attention. No one has come to my room for 1 1/2.hours so far. It is now 2 hours. Now I have had breathing treatment stuck on my face 2 hours. I have my call button on. I really want to potty and go to bed. My ankles are swelled about double size. I would say, don't come to this place.forgive me for this bad review. I was feeling vert alone and isolated in the middle of the night.

Experiencia fantástica: I would highly recommend Sunterra Springs to anyone that asks. The place is clean and welcoming. Great nursing staff, Jennifer was friendly, kind and helpful, made me very comfortable. CNA's Brianna, Riley, and Destiny , were very caring, and attentive to their patients. P/T and O/T were great , Lisa and Crystal worked hard with me, and made it fun. My overall experience was great. Mary Mae Ismir

Experiencia positiva: The nursing staff was very helpful. The aids were in our room most often. Riley P. was especially kind and helpful. She is so mature for her young age. Always willing to do whatever was needed to give excellent patient care. Very understanding and kind. We appreciated her. Destiny is a stellar aide. She is smart and explains what she is doing and why. She answered the call light when she had time, even if she was not assigned to our room. She never made us feel like an interruption to our to her day, but the purpose of her day. The day was a little brighter when she was here. Diana the night aide we have known for previous visits. She works to know your routines and anticipate your needs, and offer to meet them before you ask. A great comfort leaving your loved one in her care.I slept a little better knowing she was there. Melanie was the admitting nurse. She is so professional. You know you will be well taken care of. She communicates clearly and frequently. Addresses your concerns. Doesn't ignore you or put you off. Very important as you navigate unfamiliar waters.

Experiencia positiva: Some of the best care you can get in one of the worst times. I've had too many to list here but one little CNA stood out for me. I was having trouble keeping my pain under control and she happened to be the one to answer my call light. As I was laying here crying she came in and her voice was very soothing and was gently rubbing my arm. She came in several times just to check on me. More people in the medical field could learn alot from her. Her name is Amanda Sanders and I'd just like to thank her for going extra mile.
Dara, thank you for the kind words and for sharing about your experience with Sunterra Springs Independence. Providing a safe community of belonging, connection, and simply the best care is our top priority!
Experiencia negativa: Don’t let the newness and the pretty sitting area fool you. They do not have nearly enough staff and use a ton of temporary contract workers. My mom came home after only 2 weeks because she didn’t feel safe to receive adequate help.
We are very sorry for your experience. We would love to talk to you in greater detail so we can improve our services for our residents. Will you please email us at [email protected] so we can better understand all of your concerns. Thank you.
Experiencia fantástica: My dad is there, he has been there for 2 weeks. The PT and OT are very friendly, they work with my dad to help him improve everyday. They are great working with us, they answer our questions. I am very happy he is here and know he is being taken care of. Thank you
Rose, thank you for the kind words and for sharing about your experience with Sunterra Springs Independence!
Experiencia negativa: I’d be very cautious before letting your loved ones come here. Grandmother came her after breaking her leg for rehabilitation. It would take her an hour or more just to get help to use the restroom. In addition, I visited this place on Saturday, March 30. The woman in the room across my grandmother was crying and screaming for help. As I went into the hallway 2 workers were walking by with their hands on their ears and saying “we can’t hear you.” Very professional staff you guys have here.

Experiencia negativa: Do not take senior citizens to Independence, MO Sunterra - with the exception of a few people (Kayla and Melanie (nurses) and Angel I couldn't have handled trusting this place with my mother. Seriously, this place is horrible. I toured the place before placing my mother there, and they have an amazing MARKETING person. I fell for it hook line and sinker. SMH My mother was there for two weeks. She was so ill, I could not take her home to care for her myself and the social worker Jennifer would not reply to my inquiries for referrals- so we were stuck. She simply will not respond to calls. As for Jennifer the social worker, I finally got someone to call me after I called the Sunterra Springs in Springfield in desperation (they seem to care about patients - even those who aren't theirs). In fact, my mom was calling out at night (dementia). However, now that she's in her AL apartment she doesn't at all. I think that place amplified her dementia and anxiety. Yes, I tried to complain and even contacted outside entities b/c I feel horrible for seniors who don't have active family members. My mother was left in wet Depends, no one would come if the button is pushed and one person even threw her tray on the floor. I literally videoed the button being pushed for my mother to get help and no one came for 20 minutes!!!! Twenty minutes!!!! I sent a letter to the administrator and got no reply. They simply do not care. The nurse supervisor interacted with me on a speaker phone of a caring employee. Here is a letter I left for the management (and got no reply) "To Whom It May Concern: This is written documentation of an extremely negative interaction that occurred at your facility today with one of your employees. My mother, _______, in room 205 reported being mistreated by the certified nurse assistant (CAN) on duty at 4:40 p.m. My mother has Alzheimer’s, and I was concerned about the accuracy of her report that the CNA told her to “shut up” and slammed the door – leaving her in the recliner. When I inquired with the CNA about the reported incident, she flippantly and sarcastically rebuffed the accusation. She replied in a very demeaning, rude, and unprofessional tone. Before turning and walking out – as I was still speaking to her – I asked her name. She ignored my request and continued walking. After numerous requests, she would not reply – ignoring me. She finally barked “Abby!” and walked off with an eye roll. Her behavior confirmed my suspicion that my mother was indeed treated with uncaring behavior. All of which – gives me pause to leave her in your care. The displayed behavior should not be tolerated in this type of setting among the most vulnerable of patients. If she exhibits this type of care when a family member is present, it causes me great distress to leave my mother in Sunterra’s care when I am not with her. The only reason I felt comfortable leaving my her in Sunterra’s care after the incident was due to the action and reactions of both nurses Kyla and Kayla. They both reassured me that Sunterra was indeed a safe place and this one occurrence is not representative of the level of care usually provided. My family has chosen Sunterra because it seemed to care about its patients and to be a place committed to their care. I am saddened to discover this is not the case." Finally: when I finally got my mother out of that place, the person mentioned above apologized for our encounter. I accepted it, yet was still glad to leave that place! I think she is a kind and professional person to do that. But, Sunterra springs is still a TERRIBLE place. Sunterra Springs: Please don't try the marketing ploy of saying how sorry your are here on Google and the "please call us" foolishness. I called you and you don't reply - none of you. Spend that energy trying to improve before you hurt someone. I'm grateful for the few good staff you have and I hope you keep them because you are a dangerous place for senior citizens - especially those with dementia.
Experiencia negativa: EDITED TO ADD: Don’t let the response from ownership fool you. I emailed them as instructed as I very much wanted to talk with them. They never contacted me. It was all for show here. Very disappointed in this facility. I had been impressed with the stated staffing levels and dining room but neither ended up being utilized. Having the dining room told me the pts would get socialization and would be out of bed at least for meals. But we were told on admission that no one ate in the dining room and meals would be brought to his room. I spent the entire day with him and only saw staff at meal time. He called us twice to tell us no one was answering his call light. I asked about the staples in his head and was told a nurse would come in but no one did. Then today I found him unresponsive. I turned on the call light. No one came. After 10 minutes I went to get someone. There were 4 people standing at the nurses station. All the staff on duty in the world doesn’t do any good if they aren’t with the patients. In talking with the staff it was obvious they had no idea how his usual mental status was. This place is not safe.
We are very sorry for your experience. We would love to talk to you in greater detail so we can improve our services for our residents. Will you please email us at [email protected] so we can better understand all of your concerns. Thank you.
Experiencia negativa: DO NOT put your family member here if they are elderly. If you do, I swear to you, they will be in danger. Their treatment is borderline abuse. I am going to reach out to the onbudsman in my state. This place is literally dangerous!!!!
We are very sorry for your experience. We would love to talk to you in greater detail so we can improve our services for our residents. Will you please email us at [email protected] so we can better understand all of your concerns. Thank you.
Experiencia negativa: Sunterra Springs is poorly managed and ran by contract labor. DO NOT send your family members there as they may not receive proper care. My family member was SENT HOME WITHOUT a walker required to get around, as well as, no oxygen or medications. If my family member did not have family to advocate for them it could have resulted in physical harm.
Experiencia negativa: If I could give this place zero stars I would! My grandmother went into this place using a walker, and will be leaving in a wheelchair! No explanation why. The social worker has not been any help. My mother, and aunt have reached out several times for an update, left messages and no response! Staff, from the assisted living she will be going to, also tried reaching out several times needing paperwork and medication list. This information was needed prior to her moving in and after several calls/messages they received information late! My mother and I came to visit, and my aunt who lives close by came to visit several times and not once did anyone come in to work with her. This place is awful, I do not recommend to anyone!
Experiencia positiva: This place is beautiful, and for us it was conveniently located. CAUTION: if you want to visit your family member or friend while they recover, maybe choose another facility. Visitation hours are impossible for someone who works during the day and the visitation policies changed 2-3 times in 3 weeks.
Experiencia fantástica: So far so good. I haven’t started any therapy yet so I can’t really say how my treatments going. Staff very helpful and friendly. The facility also has good food.
Experiencia negativa: This isn't a place you would want to take a loved one with cognitive impairment. Lots of agency staff being used. And the Social worker doesn't really help family members with post rehab arrangements.
Experiencia negativa: The have some of the worst cna's. Some of them take at least 30 minutes just to help. Two times they left me on a bed pan for over an hour. They are rude. Stay at your own risk.
Experiencia fantástica: My mom came home today after a 37 day stay at Sunterra springs. She had the very best care! I cannot name one single staff person that wasn’t helpful, polite and caring. She is 94 1/2 and broke her femur. The physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy was all top notch. When she arrived she could only take three steps and was in extreme pain. Today she walked out with her walker, hugging everyone and crying because she’s going to miss them. She said, “The one positive thing about my break is that I got to meet all of you.“ THANK YOU to everyone on staff!
Experiencia fantástica: This is the nicest facility I have ever seen. It is so clean and the staff is so nice, especially Francine the Director of Nursing. Therapy staff is absolutely top notch! Highly recommend!!
Experiencia fantástica: Very wonderful staff took great care of our uncle. Can not say enough good things about the whole environment/experience. The nursing was incredible! He was very pleased with it as well. I would recommend to anyone needing rehab.
Experiencia fantástica: I just visited my Aunt Ruby everyone was very friendly
Experiencia negativa: My Mom came home yesterday from this place. She had a fractured vertebra and was ordered to have bed rest for several weeks. We struggled to find a place for her to go as we could not take care of her at home. She was sent here which looks like a very nice facility, new and everything. It's really hard at this time because they cannot have any visitors. The only contact we had with her was by telephone. They would constantly leave the telephone out of her reach until we complained. The nurses for the most part were nice and helpful. Some of them were gruff and grouchy and unproffesional. One time Mom needed to have her diaper changed, the people who came in to do that were very rough in moving her around. Then when they asked if she needed anything else, they told her they were trying to watch a television show. An hour or so later she asked for help to shift positions and they again were very rough with her and told her they didn't have time to be running to all these rooms. The treatment of my my mom was very disappointing. She was in extreme pain and would have to wait forever for her pain medicine. When they brought her pills in the morning, they wanted her to take them all in a handful, because they didn't have time to wait while she took them. Weekend staff seemed the worst. Anytime we complained something was done, but we had to call and complain about it. Then when it was time for her to come home, the social worker gave my brother a list and said he had to arrange everything on his own. No help at all. Worthless. Would not send anyone I cared for here. Or for that matter anyone at all. Unless I saw that extreme changes were made.
Experiencia fantástica: Sunterra Springs in Independence, Missouri, definitely gets 5 stars from me! In choosing a place for a dear friend to rehab after a hospital stay, Sunterra Springs, came highly recommended. The staff was excellent, as well as the facility. My friend had rehabbed in other locations, and this was the first time he said, “They’re spoiling me here!” The PT and OT staff were kind, caring and had him getting stronger everyday. I had several occasions to interface with Cindy, the social worker on staff. She always returned my calls in a timely manner, and kept me apprised of what the game plan was. She went above and beyond in keeping me in the loop and really listened to me! She was just the best! If rehab was ever needed in the future, we would look no farther. EXCELLENT CARE! Thank you to everyone!
Experiencia fantástica: This is a wonderful facility. It's beautiful, has spacious private rooms, and the employees are ALL very accommodating. The food is great, the care is timely, and the staff is beyond friendly. I would highly recommend this facility. There's no place like it!
Experiencia fantástica: Very nice facility and very well organized and professionally ran
Experiencia negativa: My mother ended up getting bed sores. Clean, nice and sanitary place; however, their services received from the staff/nurses were not great -there were things I was dissatisfied with. They do not have the patience to work with patients that have communication problems such as those who have had strokes and brain surgeries which was why my mother needed assistance and rehabilitation therapy. She had fallen out of her chair twice and was left halfway hanging out of her mobile chair. My mother has very little self mobility and requires alot of assistance, if you're looking for that kind of help this is not the right place.
Experiencia negativa: Lovely rooms and facility. PT was fabulous to my mom and helped tremendously! Food was inedible described by mom on soups and casseroles. Breakfast was good. Social worker was no help when I would call to inquire about what she needed. She would say I don’t know call PT or call the nurses. This would be right after a meeting they had and she was the topic. She was not pleasant to deal with. We were disappointed for the facility after being so excited to get in this new facility!
Experiencia negativa: So far I am very disappointed in the care here. The nurse's are few and far between. 1 nurse per 18 patient. What the hell. I was told that the nurse's only had about 4 to 5 people to care for at one time. We have only been here since Friday August 2nd. It is now Monday. They have ran out of meds, the have lost the med cart keys. It takes about average 15 to 30 minutes for call button to be answered. Although the staff is nice there are not enough for the proper care of the patient they are caring for. I have spoken to the nurse director 2 times already. It doesn't seem to make a difference. It a beautiful facility, great physical therapy room. But that doesn't matter if the care is subpar.
Experiencia fantástica: My mother recently spent a week here. Although she didn't want to be anywhere but home, her stay here was the next best thing. Unfortunately, she had to be there over her birthday. They had the whole dining room sing happy birthday to her and one of the nurse's ades went outside and picked her a bouquet of flowers for her room. I thought that was so kind and above and beyond! Everyone was kind and informative whenever I had any questions. We have been to a few rehab facilities, and they can be a nightmare but this one was great
Experiencia fantástica: Our father was recently with Sunterra Springs and released. We have been extremely pleased with his care. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. He looked forward to meal times for the food and the company, his nurses were always helpful with great follow thru when he would request anything. We found the facility clean, and stocked well. We arrived very late in the evening and on a Friday and we were welcomed. They even had a snack for him to use. His stay was for 12 days and he was happy every day. As a family who cares very much for our dad we could not have been happier regarding his care. Sunterra Springs will be recommended by us every time anyone who asks for a recommendation.
Experiencia fantástica: Our Mother stayed here for around 9 weeks with complex issues that needed specific care during a long grueling recovery from surgery and other complications and I can attest that the Care and the Staff here are top notch. The Staff were always willing to answer our questions and listen to our concerns so much that you felt like you’ve known them for years, very personable and professional from the top down. Don’t ever hesitate to admit yourself or loved one to this place for excellent quality care and rehabilitation. Thank You Sunterra for helping us to get our Mother prepared to go Home..!!
Experiencia positiva: Staff friendly and very clean facility. We did have communication problems regarding getting my Mom to the Dr. appointment. I was very disappointed in transportation. PT & OT very nice and informative; I spoke with Dr. several times briefing while visiting my Mom. Otherwise you had to find people to ask information, they didn't call and set up care meetings as other facilities have done. But the location and convenience of the facility outweighed the small issues. My Mom did not like most of the food, but I think that had to do with what she normally eats compared to what they offered on their menu. It always smelled good when you were there at meal time.
Experiencia fantástica: I really liked it at Suntterra Springs. The place is beautiful . The staff very friendly. The therapy there was really good for me. I had a knee replacement. Am having another one replaced in two weeks and I'm hoping to get to go back there.
Experiencia fantástica: Our father was recently in Sunterra in Independece,MO. The staff is so caring, so professional! I can’t say enough good things about this facility. The therapy was very tailored to what he needed. My father loved the food and the kitchen staff. They even helped him with extra special dietary wants (not needs!) thank you so much for spoiling him. The facility is so clean. The staff is over the top friendly!! Highly recommend this facility!
Experiencia fantástica: Sunterra Springs is a beautiful short stay rehab to home facility. They have wonderful and knowledgeable staff members who are happy to meet your needs. The food is scrumptious and the building is very clean. I would highly recommend them!
Experiencia fantástica: It is like a good physical therapy center opened a nice hotel . The staff is super friendly and helpful . The food is good with an excellent staff . Love this place . Very clean and quiet .
Experiencia fantástica: Highly recommend this facility. They provide top notch therapy with excellent therapists. Facility is very clean and the nursing staff is very friendly.
Experiencia fantástica: I loved my stay at Sunterra Springs! Everyone's very caring, and they make your stay fun. The therapists are fun to work with and I looked forward to going! The food is delicious and you feel like you are meeting friends at a restaurant for meals. When you first enter the building you feel like you've stepped into a beautiful hotel, and your room looks like a hotel room too. I loved sitting by the fireplace visiting with people and family. I highly recommend Sunterra Springs!! Should I need rehab in the future they will be the ONLY place I will go!!
Experiencia fantástica: I just had the pleasure of working a shift here as an agency nurse. I don’t know where to begin. This is a beautiful 38 bed skilled community. The crew I worked with last night were amazing and very caring. You can tell they truly care about the residents. It was like being part of a family. The teamwork was amazing. Here lately being an agency nurse I’ve been doubting this field due to being exposed to so much negativity; however, working just one shift in this community has restored me. I know every place has good and bad days, but this was not just a lucky day. I believe this is how they are at Sunterra Springs Independence. I truly feel like this place is an ethical, caring, professional, and loving environment. There are so many communities that try to sell you the saying “our residents come first” and they fall very short, this place sets the example of what that saying truly means. You can tell the “residents come first” at Sunterra Springs Independence. I’ve kept calling it a community throughout this rating because I don’t consider it to be a “facility” like other places that offer the same services. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Experiencia fantástica: I was in this facility for about 3 weeks and was impressed by all the departments, especially the physical therapy, dietary and nursing. My room was very comfortable and when l needed something l did not have to wait more than a few minutes. Every effort was made by the staff to make my time there as pleasant as possible.
Experiencia negativa: One star is one too many. Well I give that and a few more to the PT and OT, they were great. I dreaded nights and weekends. I spent many hours in tears wondering why they could be so mean and why they are nurses if they don’t care about people. They have no communication skills. If I ask for meds they simply didn’t return instead of telling me they ran out. At times the aide would simply turn off light and walk out at night. Literally ignoring me. Looking straight ahead and walk out. Which wow, starting the early morning of 7-4 about 1 am I had one dose of pain meds. That was the beginning of a two day nightmare. They didn’t tell me they ran out at that point but I had an idea since they only gave me two instead of 3. Even though they ran out I had another dose somehow in the morning again 2 tho instead of 3. He said he didn’t have access? Then after 3 hours requesting meds and nausea pills he finally walked in and said we don’t have either we have been waiting for them. I don’t know why they wouldn’t give me my other PRN ones too when I asked, my muscle relaxer. Shoot Tylenol was a nightmare to ask for. My dishcharge was delayed a few hours even waiting for them. I wasn’t comfortable leaving without what they said they ordered. Not sure how insurance would handle it if I left and had another dr prescribe again. My daughter reminded me of a night my heat got turned up to 90! This was the beginning of my stay, I couldn’t get up to change it or anything in my own at that point, oh my. Yet I was told I should not fear reporting something, yet once I did my care declined rapidly. Well not pleasemt before at least they treated my pain as prescribed. But not without rude comments and dirty looks. In fact, one time my dinner was not served to me.I requested it again. When the aide brought in a new one with grilled cheese and soup. The soup spilled on the sandwiches . Not edible in my opinion. When I complained she said “what do u want me to do about it!” I said hey, you tell me what you would do? Hungry forgotten then given soggy soaked sandwiches, she pooped off with “I would walk down And ask why! “ Yeah so although I had a lot of pain in my 2 week old knee I did that. When the kitchen staff came out with new plate, for some reason they couldn’t stop laughing, hard. I didn’t eat the food. Ok that’s one example. Going 12-13 hours with none of my PRN dr ordered pain meds, was awful. In fact, they simply didn’t give me any meds I requested that whole last day except Tylenol once. They did not care or show any compassion towards me. Day staff was better at explaining but, but only after several hours and requests. I have 3 more joints that need replacement. I won’t go back. Now I am scared to have them done at all. At night, common to have only 1 nurse for entire facility I felt like Worse than 2nd class citizen. Luckily almost all situations are documented writing them down. I was told I can’t video cuz of hippa but I have seen hospital staff videos so I am not sure that’s true
Experiencia negativa: Sunterra Springs is a beautiful facility, much like a lodge or spa. The accommodations are 5 star. The ground crew - nurses, nurses aides, OT/PT therapists and housekeeping are all highly skilled. The dining is the best. From the Director of Food Services on down this service is not matched in the Metro area. Meals are beyond excellent. However the administration from the Director down are seriously lacking in leadership skills, business acumen and professional conduct. In my humble opinion there is a great lack of transparency, honesty, communication, helpfulness, consideration, follow up and overall caring and compassion. Personally we were blind sided due to purposeful lack of communication, withheld information, double talk, and an abundance of smoke and mirrors. Be very wary of intentional lack of follow through following the initial (and only) meeting. We are pursuing legal counsel in these matters. I would not recommend this facility to my worst enemy.
Experiencia negativa: This nursing is home is very depressing when i walk in . and the staff treats their patients. And trust and believe i will be i will be contacting my lawyer first thing in the morning. No one and i mean no one should ever be treated like a piece of trash. The staff has messed with the wrong family. And im not going to be sticking up for just my mom im sticking up for everyone that has been treated wrong.
Experiencia fantástica: My mom says she felt like she was “treated like a queen!”. She was very impressed. Didn’t know there were places like that, that treat elderly with kindness and respect. The freedom to move around and be yourself and to include others when singing, playing cards and visiting. Such a sweet atmosphere to recuperate. Loved the individual choices of meals, dining companions, chef and staff! The therapists were not only good at what they do, they made tasks fun and had a great sense of humor. Keep that balloon going girls!! Loved the extra silly game we played with butt ball boxes. Hilarious and sneaky way to get us up and moving. All of the staff, nurses, aids and all employees. Keep up the great work. Miss you all! Thank you so much! Dot
Experiencia negativa: Very rude nurses. Obnoxious and loud. Asked to wait to give a medicine and they refused and gave it anyways. Dropped her glove on the floor and picked it up then gave a suppository. Have already complained about this woman once about how snarky she is and clearly they dont care since its continued. She then yelled down the hallway to another nurse "guess what they complained and tried to get me in trouble" and laughed.
Experiencia negativa: They hire thieves and disregard patient security and safety.
Experiencia negativa: Nice facility and the Physical Therapy staff is very good. However, the quality of care and the food is extremely poor. Ava (LPN) and a FEW others are the exceptions. THEY ACTUALLY CARE! However, my overall experience was extremely disappointing to the point of having to file a greivance against a staff nurse and personally requesting a meeting with the Executive Director. I DO NOT recommend this facility if your expectations are for a "QUALITY and CARING" experience.
Experiencia positiva: My dad recently had an extended rehabilitation at Sunterra. He recently was able to return home and it was like leaving family. In the beginning there were a few issues, but those were discussed and addressed. The facility is clean, bright and cheerful. I want to acknowledge just a few that go above and beyond! The therapists are great! The two that my dad had the privilege to work with was Tammy and Nicole! Krista transported us to appointments and always made sure all of our needs were met, she is great! Nurses, Kim, Francine, Exavia, nurses aids, Barb, Nanette, just to name a few. You all hold a special place in our heart.
Experiencia positiva: I would like to thank all the staff Pt and Ot and the Cna's that cared for my mom for their professionalism and consideration and quality care...The only thing negative about this facilty is they have more patients then staff and their frame of time on giving meds and answering the call light needs improvement.I would recommend this facilty to others!!!
Rochelle, we thank you for your kind words and recommendation! We pride ourselves with great customer service and care for our patients and strive to better ourselves in areas we can work on. Thank you for your input!
Experiencia negativa: My father's stay there was a complete nightmare. When he was admitted I immediately asked the social worker to help me get power of attorney. Her notary had expired but she promised to help which, she never did. I had the misfortune of meeting their corporate operations person who screamed at me, who repeatedly gave me incorrect information, who asked me in front of 9 people who were not family how we intended to pay for the days that weren't covered by medicare and who then had me turned into the senior services hotline for several things that were not true including that I had abandoned my father. Just because the administrative staff didn't see me there every day (because I was always there in the evening) doesn't mean I wasn't there. After my father died in their care, they called me the next day to ask for their money. Minus the nurse that was spreading incorrect information about my father's home condition, all other nurses and aids were wonderful and the facility is beautiful although very poorly run. The poor management might explain the high turnover.
