Experiencia negativa: Terrible community care department

Kristen Hall 7 months ago

Experiencia negativa: So disappointed, my dad had such trust and how in them. I advocated for months to get him the in home help he and my mom needed. That is my profession and I assist many vets less qualified for care then him and he was denied multiple times. Was finally qualified a week before he passed which was too late. I say in a DR. Appointment six weeks before he passed where the Dr denied him hospice, not as a death sentence, but to turn his situation around, she promised him he would not die in six months and six weeks later he was dead. We received his shower chair that had been promised to us for over there months, three days before he died. Three and a half weeks after he died my mother is still dealing with phone calls for his upcoming appointments. I called is primary care they day he died and notified them and the social worker. This is salt in the wound to the widow. When I told them he had used all they said was, "Sorry , he was one of our favorites." I would hate to see the care they give someone who wasn't. Several times I turned in paper work for them to fill out and return and have yet to see it. This is just a fraction of what I experienced there. There are a few good people there I'm sure, but my overall experience is not good. They caused CDIF on one of his visits that he never recovered from. So sad to me.

Experiencia fantástica: Veteran with PTSD multiple combat tours, this hospital has helped me and saved my life on multiple occasions I'm truly grateful the opposite of what people say is of the VA health care system I don't know about others but this one is phenomenal free for me but I would pay to come here! Dr Bell thanks for everything You're the best!!

Experiencia negativa: Worstttttttttt doctors of all time, will tell you everything is fine after coming for back pain for months. Will look you dead in the eye and will just push physical therapy after multiple tries of coming for pain. Every time I come for pain they will blow it off like my pain isn’t there. You’ll waste 2-3 hrs to be sent home with lidocaine patches and muscle relaxers.

Experiencia fantástica: Excellent health care. I can’t say enough good things based on my experience here over the past 3+ yrs.

Edward Steffan 2 years ago

Experiencia negativa: There is no help on the physical therapy phone line. I’ve tried to cancel appointments and am placed on hold for hours. Terrible customer service. This is a constant ongoing issue. Since they manage their appointments it makes this impossible to deal with

Caren Gillispie 2 years ago

Experiencia negativa: The review is specifically about the Women's Clinic and community care. I have been going there for years and have always been treated great and my problems addressed appropriately up until this year. The service has gone way down hill. The front end staff is not welcoming and seems irritated that they even need to work. The last time I was there they were complaining about schedules and in my opinion just being very unprofessional. I get in for my appointment and I am seen by a resident Doctor. Who states he is going to put in three referrals for community care. It has now been 2 months and have still not been scheduled for 2 of them. I went to one and they needed to conduct further testing, I informed my Dr. and it was denied. The other 2 I reached out about and was told they me there was an error and they would resubmit them. On to the resident Dr. issue. I specifically requested Dr. Hall when I scheduled since I have been seeing her for years. Nothing was said that she is not longer seeing patients and has taken a new position. So when I show up and am seen by a resident not only am I surprised I am also frustrated because he has no clue about my medical history. I asked why I can't be seen by Dr. Hall and that is when I am informed about the change, 2 weeks later I get a letter about the change. I got a message today that they are doing just one for physical therapy at the VA. I have told them numerous times that I cannot make weekly appointments to the VA due to distance. So I guess I am paying out of pocket for physical therapy now. I really wish they didn't make things so difficult for veterans to receive adequate care.

Experiencia negativa: My husband is a veteran and we spend a lot of time at the V.A. We went into the Starbucks located inside today, and I ordered a medium Carmel Frappuccino and my husband ordered a large Carmel machiato.. what we got was 2 small size drinks of some kind. We tried to explain this isn't what we ordered, but she rudely insisted it was. My husband made me take the drink and leave, because he said it wasn't worth the trouble, because she didn't care. In fact she had already moved on to a different customer. I gobto Starbucks at least 2 times per week, I know what these drinks are supposed to taste like. Whatever she blended for me, either had rotten milk or something rotten in it, because it literally made me sick. My husband's was the same. I won't be going back.

Experiencia positiva: This VA is okay. It is usually very crowded and just getting checked into the VA system took a long time. The staff I interacted with were very friendly.

John jeffers sr 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I have been going there for 20 years there just great , they take good care of the VET'S.

Scott Nebeker 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: Second to none for those covered. There's a mega-healthcare company that dominates the region. However, if I'm outside that company's greatest hospital, slip on ice and hit my head, I'll still demand to be brought here (even though the VA would cover the cost of going to that other hospital). This whole campus proves that veterans are not forgotten. We veterans were willing to die for them. Because of that, they are now willing to keep us alive and well at any cost. I can't take a single damned star away for that.

Joseph Rowe 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I've always had good experiences with this VA. While you don't have many options if you live in Salt Lake City (none for a vet...) you're still lucky because it's a good one in comparison to others throughout the Country.

Garrett Cox 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I went to the dental center because it had been a long time since I had my teeth checked. They did a great job. Most of the work was done by hygienist student but she was closely supervised by a very experienced teacher. Everyone was professional, friendly and quick. No wait time.

Josiah Dahlstrom 2 years ago

Experiencia positiva: Friendly and I love being around the veterans and those who care for them. Thanks for a great facility!

Sam Sollars 2 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I'm new to Utah, after I called my records were pulled in 15 minutes! I had an appointment in just over a week. And Home Oxygen said I could just walk-in; when I did there was only 1 person there. Houston TX, was a week for recordstransfer, 1-3 months to be seen and to walk in would cost you a day.

TJ O'Keefe 2 years ago

Experiencia positiva: The Salt Lake VA Medical Center has assisted me with housing, mental health and my physical health as well. I have an assigned team of health care providers that truly care about my well being, and for that I am grateful. Hold times and operator issues are still a problem, so I call the departments directly. Thank you.

christopher johnson 2 years ago

Experiencia negativa: As a veteran that uses the VA for health care. It is absolutely a joke. Joe Biden visited today as the news lied about the care as well as the pact act. Lies stacked on top of lies. These are learning hospitals where veterans are human text books. Human practice. Every major VA is contracted with nearby universities. Contracts for money. I have been injured and ptacticed on several times. My health care experience has been an absolute nightmare. Veterans deserve better.

Alexandro Velez 2 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Honestly I have nothing good to say. Does not surprise me why so many veterans would prefer to just to remain ill/in pain then seek care from the VA.

Rolling Turds 3 years ago

Experiencia negativa: If you don’t mind being treated by a new student every appointment and no one being able to read your chart….it’s not bad.

David Randle 3 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I spent six unexpected days here and I thought all of the medical staff were so helpful and caring. I was seen as a individual patient and not a number or a “case”. I cannot begin to explain how great full I am for these services that are provided. I want to say thank you to all of the staff that were so kind and helpful. From one healthcare worker to another, thank you! Except for Deborah at the volunteer booth. You ma’am are rude. Good day.

Christina Saunders 3 years ago

Experiencia negativa: The group we met with to begin the day were awesome, the scenery was rockable, meaning I lost my group because rocks on the ground next to the water took all my attention and my energy therefore we had to eat when we came back to the mental health building.... That was not so awesome, it's not the ladies serving the food that is the issue, it is that the VA allows these recipes to be sold at overpriced amounts to people that are disabled and probably cannot work, therefore showing their own veterans they have to stick it to them just one more time. Hoorah to all and to all a lesson learned. Don't be like this head case, go somewhere else and eat. And thanks for smiling!

Jennifer Orozco 3 years ago

Experiencia negativa: If I could give this clinic a negative star rating I would. The doctors don't care about their patients, you wait on the phone for a ridiculous amount of time for no reason, and on top of it... They made me drive all the from Ogden to the SLC office just for a 20 min appointment that could've been done over the phone. Super unprofessional and they have no communication from their primary care doctors and the specialty clinics for out patient referrals. Just horrible.

Jesse M. 3 years ago

Experiencia negativa: been retired for close to 3 years now..since then i have been trying to get my care through the VA. before covid they would make me go to the local VA clinic here in Ogden, which all they did was prescribe me meds. Then they started having me go to the Salt Lake City location, which is like a 1.5 hr drive one direction. i would drive 1.5hrs, wait an hr at their facility, be seen by the VA, drive back another 1.5 hrs..thats 5 hrs out of my day each time! i was taking time off work (losing money i need to support my family). They will not support any community care options. When or if you retire, make sure you get that tricare option! the VA is terrible. the government needs to fix this, its horrible how long things like this gets ignored and so many are getting paid so much money and in the end, the veterans get neglected. its complete BS!!!

Experiencia negativa: Amanda was very very rude on the phone. She's immature and unprofessional.

Bill Dalton 4 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: It's hard to believe that people that were in the service would think they would get any better or any different when they went to the VA if you didn't like the service don't go to the VA if you like the service the VA will take care of you one way or another in my opinion.

Experiencia fantástica: Came down to the VA Hospital to pickup a Thanksgiving Dinner package from Ken Garff. The hospital was also giving the flue shots and the Covid tests if you had an up coming appt.

Jeremiah Johnson 4 years ago

Experiencia negativa: I have been trying to get registered with the Salt Lake VA for awhile now. Never can get anyone on the phone but the operator and I wait for 10 minutes just to get a message. I leave messages only to get no call backs what so ever but hey if I need a Covid shot I can walk right in with no appointment needed. Guys this is a joke.

Experiencia negativa: My girlfriend served two years fighting for our country and she was treated poorly by the staff so rude never again will she go there seeking help

Rahul Ghosh 5 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Came here for an emergency and I had to wait 2 hours to see a doctor. I don’t think I will ever come back here. Worst employees as they are rude and don’t really care if you need help or not. If this is emergency care I rather die with a huge medical debt than get free VA care.

Experiencia negativa: I've torn both ACLs and I've been in triage for 10 days! I can barely walk...

Michael Stephens 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: They will probably keep you alive, but they aren't going to try to improve your mental or physical health. There has only been 1 person in the entire SLC VA system that I found helpful out of the hundreds I've seen. Three month wait to get a primary care physician...hope you're not dying... I was sent to another location for primary care since it was 3 months at this location, which would be great if it wasn't going to be moved 40 miles away from my home soon.

Aaron Jean 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: So many reasons.

Trinity Snarr 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Parking is a joke!!! You think as a Vet they would have designated parking for us. But, no it’s all for the students and facility. Service is just okay.

Rebekah Haderlie 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: On hold for 20 minutes the first time before needing to hang up, 30 the second, and we have currently been on hold for just under 50 minutes. I like to say I'm a patient person, but when I need to get my patient's prescriptions in ASAP, being on hold for a whole night won't do.

Kent Satterwhite 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: For the most part, this VA hospital provides the best service I've had when comparing other VA Medical Centers. They have the latest in medical technology and the staff are knowledgable, well trained, and are professional and nice. They are good about getting appointments set and will make sure to provide 2nd party assistance for any appointments outside the 30-day window or for the minimal services they don't provide in house. The staff is augmented by the University of Utah hospital which makes things run smoother and less likely to get overwhelmed by patients needing care.

Experiencia fantástica: I would like to express my gratitude for the VA hospital in Salt Lake City for taking such great care of my father. He was in the hospital for approximately 5 weeks passed away on Tuesday. What an amazing staff they have in the ICU. Every single one of the nurses are amazing. We can't thank them enough for their professionalism and support. They saved his life but unfortunately his body was worn out. Thanks to you all again.

Diane Lowe 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Calling the VA is absolutely horrible, all you do is wait to be told that they experiencing technical difficulty's and ask you to call later I've called 11 time's now and still can't get through. This is how the VA treats it's veterans!!

Rick Jones 6 years ago

Experiencia fantástica: I just moved here from California and I can say without a doubt that the care received here is superior in every way. There is no cost Valet Parking and the pharmacy is great. My prescriptions are filled very fast. All of the physicians that I have been see by are courteous and professional.

Thomas A. Dedman 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: It's "Free", let me help you with the experience at the VA, draw a circle, see how it is infinite? That's you running around the VA getting nothing done by incompetent health care providers.

Salt Lake City GoogleMapUpdates 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Inadequate staffing; Obsolete computers & software programs; NO Wi-Fi; Slow & poor care of Veterans; Resentful staff; and unclean, outdated, stinky medical clinics/offices/food areas/overall hospital & especially the ER. I am astonished that our Veterans receive medical care with poor equipment & facilities equal to the 4th street clinic. And the care is given by new residents rotated in every 3 months (most just out of medical school) therefore Veterans do not see the same doctor at every visit. And most of the front office staff are federal employees waiting for their check each month and don't service the Veterans.

Eric Gill 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: 5 weeks to see a doctor isn't acceptable. It amazes me the VA gets away with this but I guess that's what happens when there is no fear of being fired for poor performance.

Bandit 82 6 years ago

Experiencia negativa: So far waiting two years to start treatment after diagnosis of major health issue. Originally took 3 1/2 years to get benefits started. Communications between departments means care delayed at every stop. I fought for my country, just to fight to get taken care of. I wonder how many vets health gets worse simply due to wait to get anything done. And nowhere else can you be early, get called back late for the doctors first appointment of the day, then still wait in the room for a prolonged time.

ZLos 7 years ago

Experiencia negativa: I was on hold for over an hour at this place! so much for the "20 min" wait... this place is a joke... no wonder vets are...

Angel Eyes 7 years ago

Experiencia negativa: I've been treated better by my local butcher at my local grocery store than I have here. Took them 9 years and one doctor lying to diagnose my original issue. The lying doctor got called out on his lies. Went to the hospital Friday was kicked out 30 minutes after and was never told what was wrong even after they take x-rays, their reason cause they had other people who need the bed more than I did.

Experiencia positiva: I was going to the pocatello va clinic and had nothing but problems. I find the Salt Lake City va so much better. The drive sucks but over all I feel I'm getting better care. I get my meds on time and the people are nice.

CJ Swanstrom 8 years ago

Experiencia positiva: Not horrible. Although some things take a bit longer than they should, and considering the enormous amount of patients which are registered and their abysmal budget, they do a pretty good job. If you want to complain about FREE healthcare, go somewhere else and pay through the nose for what the SLC VAMC does.

Jeffrey Edmondson 8 years ago

Experiencia positiva: I went for my first visit on 21 Aug 2017. Hot there early at 7. No problems parking despite the construction. A kind staff member directed us to the elevators. Went to Blood Draw. They are short staffed. Several waiting but also 3 veterans got there early and didn't take tickets which caused a ruckus. They should look at this policy. Staff handled it well. I didn't wait ten minutes. Bruce verified my info and got my blood on first stick. Next stop was enrollments. They opened at 8 and someone came out and took the sign off the ticket kiosk about 8:05. I waited about another five minutes before I was called. Got my picture taken. ID will be sent via mail. I don't know why they can't do their IDs on the spot like we did them in the Army. I recommend looking at this too. Checked in at kiosk in Primary Care. I was called for screening which was thorough and well done. Doctor was actually early. I'm a retired physician so I had a list of all of my meds made up already and which ones needed refills. That took about ten minutes. I also had a history and problem list which she used to take notes. she did a heart lung exam and skin check. Froze an AK in my ear which I appreciated. She mentioned she only sees 10-12 patients a day. At my last job at a Tricare Clinic I saw 23 a day plus walkins. She put in a consult to derm but didn't tell me how to book it. I recommend an instruction checkout sheet telling patients how to do things and giving phone numbers. Also she didn't have a card (can get 1000 for $10 at Vista Print!) but wrote down her name and nurses name and phone number. Next stop was pharmacy. I never sat down with a pharmacist and had to review my meds before they were ordered. Unsure this is a good use of pharmacist time and money. Only issue was they were out of generic blood pressure med. Manufacturer issue. The only comment I have on my meds is one of my major issues is headaches. The two meds I really need they only gave me a one month supply of each with refills. Neither one is a controlled substance. The one I use sparingly they gave me a 90 day supply and it's a controlled substance. Should be the other way around.Surprised me especially with the new guidance on prescribing controlled substances. Will see them again in six months. Yes they have problems but they seemed to care and were helpful. Kudos

Frank DeVito 8 years ago

Experiencia positiva: Very caring and considerate personnel. I have received emergency, primary and other healthcare services on multiple occasions. The care has always been very good. The stress and difficulty of transitioning to V.A. care after active Military service was difficult for me. The V.A. in Salt Lake helped me a lot. I have participated in several recreational programs and town halls that were above and beyond what I might do for myself. I have had the privilege of utilizing several V.A. facilities across the nation. The Salt Lake City V.A. has been the best in my experience.

Experiencia negativa: This place is a joke. First of all they changed my appointment time without my approval so in conflicts with work. I have been trying to change it for the last 2 hours! every time i call it says the wait time is 10 minutes but it really means 20! I don't have time to sit on hold for over 20 minutes for a 30 second conversation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And every time I have came here with a problem, they're seriously just playing a guessing game with my health. It's like they don't take me seriously and I swear if they say Motrin is the solution to my problems one more time I will lose it. I don't have the money to fork out for medical bills but if it means my problems get figured out sooner rather than later, i'd rather just be in debt and know whats wrong. this place is a joke and I'm over it.

Thomas Wenner 8 years ago

Experiencia negativa: I work in a Hospital Lab and have to call often for help with patient orders and more information that wasn't provided. They have no idea which Dr. I am asking for, I get transferred way too many times and no one seems to know how to help or get me to the right department for help. I stay on hold FOREVER, I can't imagine what an actual Veteran goes through to get help. The process is ridiculous. I try my best to make sure everything is in order before they come in, but it can take days to get anything accomplished. How is this OK?

Richard Nixon 8 years ago

Experiencia negativa: Drove 10 hrs round trip , only to get a completely different story than I was told when I called in. The reason I called was to find out what to expect once I arrived. Had to turn around and drive all the way back home. No one seems to have the same information. I experienced the same type of nightmare that I have heard about from most veterans. The VA hospitals need to be run privately, like everything the GOVT. Gets their hands into, they completely screw it up at our expense. This is one of several bad experiences I encountered with VA HOSPITALS. Reno, Las Vegas, San Francisco, now Salt Lake city.

Makenzie S. Kresge 9 years ago

Experiencia negativa: If I could give zero stars I would, they are rude, unorganized, uncaring and a bad joke. I have so many things to say about this place so I'll give a recent example as to why they suck. My husband went without VITAL medication for almost a week, he called for 3 days before his meds were due to make sure everything was in order because they were sending the meds in the mail. And guesswhat They never sent them.....so 6 days later we get an appointment and his Dr said with a straight face, "you fell through the cracks." She didn't care at all that she endangered his life and health. How?! How did he fall through the cracks when he called 3 days before, and every day after asking what was going on, and each call he got completely different answers. Don't even get me started on the Veteran's Choice program, it's just as unorganized and ridiculous as the rest of the VA facility, except for my husband's PT, he is absolutely wonderful. Other than that, if you want to actually stay alive and get proper care, DO NOT COME HERE!

Dylan D 9 years ago

Experiencia negativa: I have been to numerous doctors tying to figure out what is going on with me. The service and treatment that I have been given by the doctors at this hospital has been very disappointing. I have seen several doctors here and I can honestly say only one showed true concern for me, all of the others just wanted to pass me off to the next doctor. This got so bad that I stopped going for a year and a half. I gave it a try again and the whole process started over again. I will not be going back to the Salt Lake VA hospital any time soon to say the least. I will continue going to my other doctors outside of the VA to help me. At least they seem to be concerned about my health and welfare. The only reason that I am even putting a star on this review is because of the excellent medical assistants that helped me and the ONE doctor, literally only one, that was willing to listen to me.

Big JOHN 9 years ago

Experiencia positiva: Doctors great, pharmacy sucks. They are slow to provide meds and they lied about when my meds were sent. I contacted public affairs at hospital, nothing done. I wrote my senator and congressman nothing. The land of the free!
